Ann M. Cafaro - July 03, 1945 - March 18, 2024

Departed: 03/18/2024 (Forked River)
Obituary Preview: Ann Marie Cafaro, 78, of Waretown, NJ passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024.  Ann, the daughter of the late Peter and Bridget Duggan, was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived happily in Montville, NJ for thirty-seven years raising her two sons.
Ann’s purpose in life was an interweave of two things - bringing joy to others through her compassion and sense of humor, and being there for her family no matter what the ask. The two most important things in Ann’s life were her God and her family. Ann, whose devotion to the Virgin Mary was equally matched by her devotion to her husband and children, often prayed the rosary and never missed a Sunday mass. Ann also never missed an opportunity to tell her sons that they should go to mass too. In fact, Ann continued to remind her sons of all the right things they should be doing up until her last days. While her sons would often respond with annoyance and tone akin to ‘yeah I know, I know’, they always knew deep down that Mom was right as Mothers always know best.
Ann attended Catherine McCauley High School in Brooklyn and shortly after graduation began her career in Manhattan on 5th Avenue as a legal assistant. Ann’s work brought her on many adventures throughout the years including working as an assistant to Jack Dreyfus during the pinnacle of the Dreyfus brokerage business. Ann was later offered an opportunity to work on the floor of the NYSE as a runner, to which she declined for something closer to her heart - raising a family of her own, something that she always wanted.
Ann is survived by her two sons, Nicholas (Christie) and Gerard (Caroline), and her much-loved grandchildren Carly and Everett who were the joys of her life.

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their family, accomplishments, and funeral or memorial services.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries are typically written by family members or close friends of the deceased, although some funeral homes and newspapers may offer assistance with writing and publishing obituaries.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the individual's life story. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the tribute and help readers remember the person.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

Contact the newspaper or online platform directly for their submission guidelines and deadlines. Some may accept submissions online or via email, while others may require a phone call or in-person visit.

Is there a cost associated with publishing an obituary?

Yes, most newspapers and online platforms charge a fee to publish an obituary. The cost varies depending on the publication, word count, and any additional features such as photos or special layouts.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told accurately and authentically.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish obituaries within hours or days, while others may have longer lead times.

Can I make changes to an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, changes cannot be made once an obituary has been published. It's essential to proofread carefully before submitting to avoid errors or inaccuracies.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to share the obituary publicly, you can choose to publish it privately through a funeral home or online memorial website. This way, only those with permission can access the tribute.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes, many people find it meaningful to include favorite quotes, lyrics, or poems in an obituary to reflect the person's personality or values.

How do I handle errors or inaccuracies in an obituary?

An online obituary allows friends and family to pay their respects and share memories from anywhere in the world. It also provides a permanent digital record of the person's life story.

How long do online obituaries remain available?

The duration varies depending on the online platform. Some websites maintain archives indefinitely, while others may remove older content after a certain period.
