She was born in Jackson on Sunday, May 7, 1939, to Bascom Fitzland Toland and Tommie Atchison Toland, both of whom preceded her in death. A dedicated teacher, she had 41 years of experience, 30 of those at Gilmore Elementary School in Jackson and the rest at Boykin Elementary in McIntosh and Jackson Academy. She had served as an officer in the Alabama Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Clarke County Educators, Friends of the Library and Jackson Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Pine City Community Concert Association, Three Arts, Hospital Auxiliary and the QA Committee for the Department of Human Resources. She is survived by numerous cousins, all of her "Kids," or former students and many friends.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022, at The First Presbyterian Church in Jackson with the Rev. Taylor Morgan officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. In 1952, she married Roy Frederick Wooten, as U.S. Marine Corp sergeant, and in 1964 the couple moved from Camilla, GA to Jackson where Fred would later retire from Boise Cascade as Woodlands Manager. Anna Belle devoted her lift to being a homemaker and raising their two daughters and helping out with their grandchildren.Anna Belle loved working in the yard, football, sewing, crossword puzzles and making general repairs around her home. She took numerous trips around the United States with her husband. She and Fred were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church in Jackson. She was born in Jackson, Alabama, on April 19, 1930, the daughter of Charlie Coble and Kittie Gray (Guy) May. She attended Jackson High School and graduated from the Alabama College, State College for Women now the University of Montevallo with a Bachelor of Science degree. Deloris was a dedicated teacher for 34 years. She began her teaching career in 1952 in Sylacauga, Alabama, and also taught at Kate Sheppard Middle School in Mobile, Alabama. She later returned to teach at Jackson High School in Jackson, Alabama, and served as senior sponsor. In 1963 she moved to Birmingham, Alabama and taught Speech and English at Mountain Brook High School and later taught Civics at Mountain Brook Junior High until 1986. Deloris also enjoyed producing plays and musicals with her high school students and later volunteered with the Town and Gown Theatre, now Virginia Samford Theatre, in Birmingham, Alabama. Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dr. Charles Eugene May (Pat) and brother-in-law Coleman B. Ransone, Jr. She is survived by her sister Katherine May Ransone, brother Dr. Allen Wayne May, (Eleanor), sister Nancy May Woodson (Wendell) and sister Patricia May Parker (Frank). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 10, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Jackson with Dr. Ben Stubblefield officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., with the service starting at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Rick Finch, Allen Finch, Dwayne Dixon, Todd Dixon, Neil Goldman, Thad Goldman, Jason Renner and Drew Renner.
