Obituary Preview: Ann L. (Crise) Mulkin, 70, of Fredonia, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo.  Ann was born in Dunkirk on September 3, 1953, the daughter of Michael and Antoinette (Biscaro) Crise.  On April 5, 1975 she married her husband, Bruce Mulkin.  The couple had been married 49 years at the time of her passing. Ann earned her Bachelor’s Degree  Master’s Degree at SUNY Fredonia.  After graduation, Ann started her education career journey at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, then to Erie2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES and eventually to Cassadaga Job Corps where she served as Director of Education and Training. In 1992 she joined her husband at the Paper Factory in Fredonia, where she was the driving force in the success of the business until retirement in 2022. Her dedication to her customers and her employees was unparalleled.  Ann had a generous spirit and especially loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.  She had many interests. Ann enjoyed reading, sunsets and pink flamingos.  Ann also enjoyed spending time at the pool in Florida and on the lake at home.   She loved both the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.  Ann is survived by her husband, Bruce Mulkin; her brother, Michael (Kelly) Crise of Fredonia and her sister, Donna (Don) Horton of Williamsville; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.She is predeceased by her parents: Michael P. Crise and Antoinette Biscaro Crise.Visitation will be held at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, today from 3-7 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony Church, corner of Cushing & Orchard Sts., Fredonia, Saturday at 10am. He was surrounded by his loved ones after a hard fought battle with cancer.  He was born in Dunkirk, NY on December 26, 1967, son of Walter Koba and the late Shirley (Drummond) Koba. He is survived by: his spouse, Barbara (Zmuda) Koba; his children: Courtney Koba, Devin Koba, and stepson, Dr. Shaun Zmuda;  He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia (Koba) Zach and her spouse Michael Zach.  Randy graduated from Fredonia High School in 1986 and went on to study Sports Medicine at Canisius College. Randy worked as an officer for the New York State Department of Corrections for 25 years and retired in 2017. He and Barbara were married on December 11th, 2021.  Randy was a very devoted and loving father. He loved spending time with his family and his friends. He also enjoyed golfing, camping, skiing, and had the talent of being able to fill a room with laughter. Randy and his wife, Barbie, attended many concerts, events, and love to go for motorcycle rides. He was always known as "the life of the party". Randy will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.Calling hours will be held at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, Friday from 3 -7 pm.  A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, 1 N. Obituary Preview: David T. Lewandowski, 88, of Dunkirk, NY, founder of Fredonia Heating and Plumbing, Inc., passed away Saturday April 20, 2024 at the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Dunkirk on July 8, 1935, the son of Frank and Hedwig (Lorence) Lewandowski; Raised in Dunkirk, he attended Dunkirk City schools and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1953. In 1964 Dave established Fredonia Heating and Plumbing, Inc., now operated by his son, Daniel. Dave made many service calls at night, weekends and holidays in building his business. If a family did not have heat or hot water, Dave was there to make sure you got it no matter the day or time. Although busy with raising a family and running his business, he served the community as a volunteer with the Fredonia Fire Dept. Dave was a member of the Fredonia Beaver Club and Moose Club. He enjoyed golfing, wine making, hunting and ice fishing.  He also enjoyed roller-skating, going to the casinos, Saturday morning coffee at the Upper Crust for many years and making sauerkraut with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved animals, particularly his cats Phoebe and Felix, along with the pheasants and quail that he raised on his Stone Road property.David is survived by: his wife, Carolyn Lewandowski; 2 daughters: Cindy (Ray) Coniglio, of Fredonia and Linda (Bill) Dowdell, of Atlanta; a son, Daniel (Amy) Lewandowski, of Fredonia; 2 brothers: Ray Lewandowski, of Fredonia and Jim Lewandowski, of Dunkirk; a stepson: Scott A. Mrs. Bull was born in Biddeford, Maine on May 7, 1935, to the late William and Enid (Church) MacCubbin.  Shirley attended Cassadaga Valley School. On November 9, 1957 Shirley married Lynn R. Bull Sr.  The couple was married 55 years at the time of Lynn’s death in 2013.  She worked as a teacher’s aide at LoGuidice Educational Center and in her earlier years at G.C. Obituary Preview: Peter Warren Carlson, 69, of Fredonia, NY, passed away Monday April 15, 2024.  Born July 12, 1954 in Dunkirk, Peter was the son of the Robert W. and Marian J. (Brumm) Carlson. Peter attended the Fredonia Campus School, graduated from Fredonia Central High School and attended Onondaga Community College for Automotive Technology. He was an Article 19-A certified examiner and worked for The Resource Center in Dunkirk until he retired in 2022.  Peter was a member of the Moose club and the proud owner of a wolf-husky hybrid named Tasha. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, an AMA member, and especially enjoyed riding his 1949 Harley Panhead. He also enjoyed traveling and spending times with his many good friends.Peter is survived by: his brother, John and wife Linda Carlson of Lansdale, PA.; two nieces: Lisa and Krista Carlson and two nephews: Brian and Eric Carlson. His nieces and nephews referred to him as “Their fun uncle”.He is predeceased by his parents, Robert W, and Marian J. Carlson.A celebration of Peter’s life will be held and announced at a later date.

Dylan was born in Dunkirk on January 23, 1995.  He previously worked at Universal Stainless and Alloy in Dunkirk.  On March 6, 2024 Dylan graduated from MIAT College of Technology in Canton, MI., where he earned 6 different certifications and trained in 7 different specialties. Dylan had a kind and loving heart.  He will be missed by all that knew him. Dylan is survived by: his mother, Faith Sheehan, of Fredonia; two brothers:Alex Sheehan and Connor Roberts, also of Fredonia; aunts: Cheryl (Jim) Stanford, of Jamestown, Edna Messinger, of Jamestown, Sherry and Michelle; uncles: Harold Roberts, Jr. of Columbus, PA., Kevin and Danny, Jr.  Also survived by numerous cousins. John graduated from Mindszenty High School in 1957.  On August 25, 1962 John married Frances A. Domst at St. Hyacinth Church, in Dunkirk. John was a member of the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department and M.M. Fenner Hose Company #2 for over 55 years. He served as Secretary and Treasurer for over 30 years for the Fredonia Exempt Firemen’s Association. He was also a bugler in Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. Working for the United States Postal Service, John work in Fredonia Post Office as clerk and then supervisor. He retired from Silver Creek Post Office as Postmaster in October 1992. After retiring, he served as a driver for BOCES, for an additional several years. Paul was also a devoted patron of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dunkirk, NY. Paul had a passion for collecting clocks. His collection was a testament to his appreciation for craftsmanship. Paul also enjoyed getting out on the open water. Having owned several boats over the years, found tranquility in being on the water. He also found joy in the simple task of mowing the lawn. Obituary Preview: John W.  Murgatroyd, 78 of Fredonia, New York, died March 20, 2024, at the UF Health The Villages Fl. He was born April 26, 1945, in Harrisburg PA, the son of the late John and Helen Murgatroyd.  On July 8, 1978, he married his wife, Linda Burnside, who survives him.  John was a graduate of Cardinal Mindzenty High School and SUNY Fredonia in 1968, where he earned a chemistry and biology degree.  John taught both biology and chemistry at Brocton Central School for 32 years. Besides teaching, John was involved in various activities at Brocton.  He coached football, tennis and girls basketball.  John’s 1989 girls basketball team finally won a Section VI Championship.  The 1993 team defeated the defending NYS champion, Pine Valley Central, at SUNY Fredonia, advancing Brocton to the NYS Final Four.  John was also a volleyball official.  He was the advisor to Brocton’s Its Academic team, hosted by Van Miller on Ch. 4.  While teaching at Brocton, during the summer months he coached girls basketball at the Salvation Army and ran girls basketball ball camps at Brocton Central Schools.  In his early coaching years, John went to Niagara University summer basketball camps.   He was the Master of Ceremonies for many retirement parties and alumni banquets.  Upon retirement from Brocton Central Schools, he helped coach girls basketball at Fredonia High School and worked at Carriage House for a period of time.   He was big supporter of the Salvation Army Bell Ringer program during the Christmas Holliday season, recruiting many of his friends to ring.   He liked to travel, cook, and garden.  John was well known for his garlic.   He was a supporter of the local food pantry and food kitchen and volunteered at the former Chautauqua County Nursing Home.   For a number of years John gave a Chemistry Award to a deserving student at Brocton Central School.  John was a people person and loved to meet and talk to people wherever he went.   Proud of his Irish heritage, John celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by visiting Savanah, GA. and attending the St. Paddy’s Day Parade.   John is survived by:  his wife, Linda (Burnside) Murgatroyd; sisters-in-law: Brenda Merrill, Debra  (Thomas) Moore; brother-in-law, Douglas (Lisa) Burnside. Ryel, 76, of Fredonia, NY, passed away on Tuesday March 5, 2024 at Brooks Memorial Hospital.  He was born March 15, 1947 in Rochester, NY, the son of David D. and Dorothy K Ryel. He considered his greatest achievement marrying Nancy Patti, his wife, friend and consigliere in 1969. She was his soul. Dan was a graduate of Fredonia Central School, where he was President of the Class of 1965, a former member of the Board of Directors of Aspire of WNY Committee for Special Education, Fredonia Central School and former President of the Chautauqua Life Underwriters. He served in the United States Army from 1968-1970 and attained the rank of Staff Sargent. He then returned to SUNY Fredonia and achieved his BS in English in 1973 and taught English at Westfield Academy from 1973-1977. Daniel then joined his mentor, James H. Blodgett, CLU and began his career as a Financial Advisor. He earned CLU and ChFC degrees and loved to keep current to help his clients, many of whom he considered his friends.He partnered with Warren Beyer in 1985 and turned his business over to Joseph Gugino, CFP in 2015. Nancy and Dan raised their daughters, Rene and Brennan, who gave their lives meaning and who in turn gave them their grandsons, Keegan and Quinn, to spoil and that they loved. Obituary Preview: Kathleen Patricia McMahon-Jones, 60, of Fredonia, NY, passed away on Friday February 23, 2024 at the Erie County Medical Center after a brief illness. Kathleen was born in Buffalo on March 15, 1963, daughter of Joann (Brennan) McMahon and the late Francis McMahon. Growing up in Buffalo, Kathleen later moved to North Boston, NY with her family and graduated Hamburg High School 1981. She graduated Buffalo State College in 1987 earning Master’s Degree in Special Education and Science. A dedicated and respected special education teacher, Kathleen taught at the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaragaus BOCES, LoGuidice Center in Fredonia for 35 years. On February 29, 1996, Kathleen married Timothy P. Jones, also a special education teacher at the LoGuidice Center. A woman of many interests and talents, she enjoyed gardening, BREAD MAKING, archery and watching cooking shows. Kathleen Patricia McMahon-Jones, 60, of Fredonia, NY, passed away on Friday February 23, 2024 at the Erie County Medical Center after a brief illness. Kathleen was born in Buffalo on March 15, 1963, daughter of Joann (Brennan) McMahon and the late Francis McMahon. Growing up in Buffalo, Kathleen later moved to North Boston, NY with her family and graduated Hamburg High School 1981. She graduated Buffalo State College in 1987 earning Master’s Degree in Special Education and Science. A dedicated and respected special education teacher, Kathleen taught at the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaragaus BOCES, LoGuidice Center in Fredonia for 35 years. On February 29, 1996, Kathleen married Timothy P. Jones, also a special education teacher at the LoGuidice Center. A woman of many interests and talents, she enjoyed gardening, BREAD MAKING, archery and watching cooking shows. Obituary Preview: Mira Tetkowski Berkley, of Fredonia, NY, died unexpectedly on February 14, 2024 at Brooks Memorial Hospital.  Mira was born on June 19, 1952 in Buffalo, NY.  She spent most of her childhood on Grand Island, with a couple of years spent living in Siena, Italy.  Through this experience, she developed a lifelong passion for travel and Italian culture.  Mira received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Cornell University and her Master’s Degree from Buffalo State.  She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to work as a preschool teacher.  There she met her husband of 46 years, Jack Berkley.  After getting married, they moved to Arizona where they had their first child, Jory, and then to Fredonia, NY, where they had their second son, Alexander, and where they lived for the next 40 years. Mira worked as a kindergarten teacher in Silver Creek before becoming a college professor at Jamestown Community College for several years.  During this time, she worked on and earned her PhD from the University of Buffalo, eventually leading to a position at SUNY Fredonia where she served as chair of the early childhood department.  Mira led several overseas trips for students to learn from other cultures, including to Wales, England, Belize, and Italy.  She was a lifelong advocate for learning through play.  Upon retiring from SUNY Fredonia, Mira worked for Quality Stars training Pre-K teachers in New York City.  Mira’s influence on her students and the impact that she had on children in New York State is incalculable.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking, Big Dipper ice cream, walking dogs to the creek, and monarch butterflies. Mira leaves behind her loving husband, Jack; her son, Alex (Kayleigh); four grandchildren: Clemmie, Polly, Evan, and Caroline.  She also leaves behind her mother, Lenore Tetkowski; her brother, Neil (Olga) Tetkowski; her sister, Diane (Ron) Pokorski, and many close nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great niece.  She was predeceased by her son, Jory and her father, Clement Tetkowski.  Mira made everyone she met feel like the most important person in the world.  Her memory is our blessing.  A memorial service will be held and announced this summer.  On-line condolences may be made at larsontimkofuneralhome.com.  Arrangements by David J. Obituary Preview: Joseph J. Stenger, 95, formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed away Wednesday February 14, 2024 at his home in Fredonia. Joe was born January 5, 1929 in Buffalo, N.Y. to John J. and Margaret (Flynn) Stenger. Raised in Buffalo, he graduated from Kensington High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17.  Joe attained the rank of Sergeant while serving during the WW II era from 1946-1948 with duty in Guam and China.  Joe began his distinguished 35 year career in the Buffalo Police Department in 1952 serving as a patrolman, a detective, and retired as a Lieutenant in 1987. Continuing his education, he earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Buffalo State College, now known as Buffalo State University.  He also did course work towards a PhD at the University at Buffalo. Upon retirement from the Buffalo Police Department, Joe worked as a licensed court reporter and realtor.   Although busy with his large family and career, Joe was active in numerous civic, fraternal and club including: U.S. China Marine and 1st Division Association;  American Legion Post Troop I-665, where he served as the Post Commander.; VFW Posts 2472 & 7545; Knights of Columbus Council 184; Buffalo Police Athletics Association; W.A.R.P., Depew, N.Y. and 40 & 8 Voiture 51, Cheektowaga, N.Y.Joe was an avid reader, enjoyed researching family genealogy, a longtime fan of the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and those Buffalo Bills. Grace was born April 26, 1929 to Felix and Regina (Czysz) Gestwicki. She graduated from Dunkirk High School and earned a degree in elementary education from Fredonia State Teachers’ College. Following college, Grace moved to Long Island and Cleveland for her first teaching jobs. She recounted fond memories of living in a boarding house with other young women in Cleveland as she began her career. She moved back to Dunkirk and worked as a probation officer for a short time. It was then that she met her future husband, James Hassett. They married in 1958 and moved to Milwaukee and later to Minneapolis. Grace taught second grade until she and Jim welcomed their children, Karen and Mike. They moved back to Dunkirk a few years later and Grace resumed teaching. Her gentle and patient ways made her loved by many second, fourth and fifth graders at Schools Three and Four.Following her retirement, Grace and Jim loved to travel and spend time with their grandchildren, Alex and Anna. Grace was a devoted caregiver to Jim for the last ten years of his life after he suffered two strokes. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Jim, parents Felix and Regina, stepfather Michael Kittell, sisters Helen Hardenstine Baird and Barbara Szwejbka, brother Richard Gestwicki and their spouses, brother and sister-in law Charles and Gail Hassett, nephew Andrew Szwejbka, Jr., and many friends. (Graham) Wakelee, 75, of Dunkirk, N.Y., died Thursday January 18, 2024 at home with her loving family at her side.  Beverly was born January 23, 1948 in Buffalo, N.Y. to Steve and Marilyn (Miller) Graham. She grew up on Buffalo’s west side, graduating from Lafayette High School.  In 1971 Beverly, along with her husband, Denny Wakelee, moved from Buffalo to Forestville, where they raised their five children.  Together, Beverly and Denny owned and operated Dailey & Elias Bros. in Smith Mills until she took a position with New York State Department of Corrections. Beverly A. (Graham) Wakelee, 75, of Dunkirk, N.Y., died Thursday January 18, 2024 at home with her loving family at her side.  Beverly was born January 23, 1948 in Buffalo, N.Y. to Steve and Marilyn (Miller) Graham. She grew up on Buffalo’s west side, graduating from Lafayette High School.  In 1971 Beverly, along with her husband, Denny Wakelee, moved from Buffalo to Forestville, where they raised their five children.  Together, Beverly and Denny owned and operated Dailey & Elias Bros. in Smith Mills until she took a position with New York State Department of Corrections. Upon her retirement from NYSDOC, Beverly provided childcare for many families in the area.  Proud of her Buffalo heritage she loved “Everything Buffalo”, she especially loved the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.
Beverly is survived by: her former husband, Denny Wakelee, the father of her children; four children: Marilyn (Phillip) Orlando of Jamestown, N.Y., Kim (Henry) Delgado of Dunkirk N.Y., Steven (Jody) Wakelee of Florida, Denny (Julie) Wakelee of Cassadaga and Renee Marcoux, her niece that she helped raise; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; also survived by her twin sister, Bonnie (Bob) Rothschild of Virginia Beach VA; a sister, Linda Bognar, a brother, Richard (Cindy) Graham, both of Georgia and 8 nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Beverly is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Shannon Wakelee and her two brothers: Max and Frank Graham.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday February 24, 2024 at the Forestville American Legion Post 372, 6 Cedar Street, Forestville, N.Y., from 1-4pm.
The family extends their thanks and appreciation to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care for the kindness and care provide to Beverly and family and to her grandson, Jacob Burrows, with whom she lived with for many years.
