Obituary Preview: Mrs. Barbara Jo Lackey, age 80, of Russellville, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, at Baptist Health in Little Rock. The daughter of Josephine Enoch and the late William Jo Enoch, she was born on May 27, 1942, in Russellville.
A graduate of Horace Mann High in Little Rock, Barbara went on to attend and complete her education at Arkansas Tech University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She was the second African-American woman (and the first from Russellville) to graduate from ATU. In 1962, she wed her beloved, Billy Ray Lackey from Fayetteville. They were married 44 years until his passing in 2007.
Throughout her career as a social worker, she was well-known and loved for her willingness to help anyone in need. Having been the social worker with the Russellville School District for more than 13 years, she cherished the position and especially loved working with children.
Survivors include her mother, Josephine Enoch of Russellville; daughters; Rhonda Lackey of North Little Rock, and Erica Washington of Fort Worth, Tx; three grandchildren; Aaron Bogard of North Little Rock and Hannah and Zoey Washington of Fort Worth; and sister Doris Enoch of Los Angeles, CA.
The funeral service will be held at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, 321 S. Houston Pl, in Russellville at 10 a.m. on February 25, officiated by Rev. Lee Tyus. Visitation 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, February 24, 2023 at the church. The burial will be in Russellville at Reed Cemetery. Services entrusted to Larry G. Dwight was born June 19, 1961 to George and Charlene Templeton in Portland, Oregon. At the age of eleven he professed his faith and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Seattle, Washington.
Dwight spent his early years in the Pacific Northwest. After moving with his parents to the mid-west, he graduated from Raytown South High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1979. He continued his education and went on to study Sociology and obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Historical Black College of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida.
After graduation he landed his first job working for the State of Washington as a social services worker and then went on to work for Sky Chef where he worked for several years before becoming disabled.
Dwight was known for his love of political discourse, sports, music, photography and Teriyaki. He was fun loving, loved his family and never left a stranger unmet. He was keenly interested in people and took delight in other’s successes and joys. He was ever the optimist and always looked on the bright side.
Dwight leaves to celebrate his life, his beloved family, daughter, Turquoise Templeton of Kansas City, MO; son Trynnel Templeton of Kansas City, MO; grand-daughter Nia Templeton-Lindsay of Kansas City, MO; parents George and Charlene Templeton (St. Louis, MO), sister Linda (Sammie) Barnett (Seattle, WA); sister Kim (Rocky) Buchanan (St. Louis, MO), nephews Wesley and JaKobi Buchanan (St. Louis, MO), uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
