Alan Gagnon - April 25, 2024 - May 10, 2024

Departed: 05/10/2024 (Millinocket)
Obituary Preview: East Millinocket - Alan Gagnon passed away on May 10, 2024. He was born on a potato farm on April 25, 1924, in Aroostook County in the little town of Guerette. Alan went to school in a one-room schoolhouse, and was responsible for getting up very early to start a fire in the wood stove to keep the school warm.
Alan was one of nine children. He was a hardworking farm kid. He had lots of small jobs and had an entrepreneurial spirit early on. He would buy hairbrushes for 50 cents and sell them for 2 dollars each. Alan upsold apples, and he would also drive people to the movies and charge them for the ride.
Alan joined the Army at eighteen years old along with his three brothers to serve during WWll. Alan served in Sicily and in North Africa. Alan was a Combat Engineer in the 2nd Corps Army attached to the 5th Army behind General Patton, whom he met twice. Alan worked as a Minesweeper. He eventually transferred out of the dangerous job as a Minesweeper and became a Staff Sergeant of a Mess Hall. Amazingly enough, one of Alan's brothers was able to get stationed where Alan was stationed and because of his mother's prayers, all the Gagnon brothers made it back home to Maine.
Alan moved to Fort Kent. He married Joan and had three daughters; Jackie Prince of Nashua, NH, Carol Baker (husband Frank) of East Millinocket, and Sandra McCluskey (husband Jed) of Millinocket. Later on, Alan moved his family to East Millinocket, where he built his home in 1956. Alan's wife Joan passed away, and he raised his three daughters by himself. Later on, he married Geraldine and two more children were added to the bunch, Sherry Hinrichs of Moriarty, NM, and Kurt Hinrichs (wife Leslie) of Abbot.
Alan worked at The Great Northern Paper Company for over 30 years. In that time, and up until he was 84 years old, he was the Sheetrock King of the East Millinocket area. Alan built homes, and did many renovations (too many to count) for homes and businesses in the area. He was the type of guy who didn't take lunch breaks. He would finish his day at the mill only to go work at a carpentry job he had in town. Alan took pride in his work. He was a very skilled carpenter. He was great in Math which helped in this area. Alan was an extremely hardworking man and only stopped snow-blowing when he was 95! He cut his firewood for a very long time and even mowed his lawn last summer at 99. His work ethic and honesty shone through into his daily life.
He was a very reliable man with a generous heart. He was a jokester. Every day was April Fool's Day with Alan. He was a very easygoing guy unless you were getting in the way of something he was trying to accomplish. He was a simple man who loved donuts from Dunkin, fried clams, fried scallops, root beer and pretty much anything that holds no nutritional value. Nobody could crack a lobster as fast as he could. Alan was an avid reader. He was most interested in reading; The Reader's Digest and anything to do with WWII, naturally. Alan belonged to Christ the Divine Mercy Parish in East Millinocket for many years. Alan was living independently in the home that he built so many years ago up until a month before his 100th birthday. Alan got to celebrate this centenarian milestone with his family who loves him so much.
Alan has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a very large extended family. He was a dedicated brother, husband, father, uncle and Grampy. He will be missed tremendously. Alan leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love for God, family and hard work.

Ian G. Shearer - January 24, 1969 - May 08, 2024

Departed: 05/08/2024 (Millinocket)
Obituary Preview: Ian Gary Shearer, 55, beloved husband, father, pastor, brother, and friend to many passed away at home in the early hours of May 8 with his wife and oldest daughter at his bedside. He spent his final days surrounded by loving family. Ian was born on January 24, 1969, to Gary and Mary Shearer of Danvers, Massachusetts and grew up in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. He and his four brothers spent childhood playing sports, pulling pranks on each other, and inventing “Crazyball,” a sport the family and friends still play every Thanksgiving. In winter, Ian’s family would go sledding at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Once when he was still young, Ian looked up at the seminary and told his mother, “one day, I’m going to go here.”
In high school, Ian discovered his passion and talent for running. He led the Hamilton-Wenham Generals as captain of the cross country and track teams. Ian also played baritone in the high school band for four years and started a family tradition of taking up the sousaphone to fill out the marching band bass section.
Ian graduated from Hamilton Wenham Regional High School in 1987 having been inducted into the National Honor Society and elected Homecoming King and Student Body President. He then attended Bates College in Maine, continued track and cross country, and earned a Political Science degree with honors. After graduating in 1991, Ian moved to Santa Cruz, California where he renewed his commitment to Christ and joined High Street Community Church. While there, he met his beloved wife, Marci (Stickler) Shearer. They married July 19, 1998, and exemplified a Godly marriage for the next 25 years. Ian soon felt called to be a pastor, and the two returned to Massachusetts for graduate school. They attended First Baptist Church in Manchester and volunteered with the youth group during this time. True to his childhood prediction, Ian graduated from Gordon-Conwell with his Master of Divinity in 2003. Ian and Marci began searching for a church to serve. This brought them further and further north until they found Faith Baptist Church in Millinocket, Maine. They moved in August of 2004. For the next 20 years, Ian would raise his family here and serve the Millinocket community as a pastor and sports coach.
Ian loved exploring the outdoors with his family. He used a jogging stroller to bring his kids on runs even as babies, and he shouldered a baby backpack to take them hiking. When they were older, he taught them to ski. He planned canoe trips for him and Marci to celebrate their anniversary, took the family camping every summer, and began building a cabin on Ambajejus Lake. He also coached his kids and their friends in baseball, softball, and basketball.
Ian’s congregants testify to the countless ways he cared for them and touched their lives. He is remembered for faithfully loving Marci and his kids. He made people laugh with his quick-witted comments and gap-toothed grin. His service to the church and to the town of Millinocket glorified God. Even after being diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in December 2022, Ian continued to preach the gospel and coach sports until he became too weak to do so.
Ian is survived by his wife Marci of Millinocket, Maine and his parents Gary and Mary of South Hamilton, Massachusetts. His children are Anne, Elliot and his fiancée Emma McGraw, Caleb, Noelle, and Asher. He is also survived by his younger brothers Marlin and wife Allison of Ipswich, Massachusetts; Warren and wife Rianneke of Hampden, Maine; Darin and wife Anna Carolina of Gainesville, Florida; and Alan of South Hamilton, Massachusetts; as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and their children.
A funeral will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Millinocket, on Wednesday May 15 at 10 a.m.
Donations to an educational fund for Ian’s children can be made online at https://www.gofundme.com/f/ian-shearer-education-fund or sent to Marci Shearer c/o Faith Baptist Church P.O. Box 516 Millinocket, Maine 04462.

Judith Ann Pelletier - May 04, 1939 - March 23, 2024

Departed: 03/23/2024 (Millinocket)
Obituary Preview: JUDITH ANN "JUDY" PELLETIER - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Judy on March 23, 2024. She was born on May 4, 1939 to Flora (Savage) Pinnette and Edmund Pinnette in Millinocket, Maine, where she grew up and met the love of her life, Wilmen "Willie" Pelletier. She knew the first time she saw him that he was the one for her. They were married on June 28th, 1956, and together they raised five children - Kim, David, Richard "Dickie", Mary, and Laurie.
Judy was always busy with activities that were geared towards children. She was actively involved with her boys in Cub Scouts, and with the girls, Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was also a long time leader in 4-H with her specialty being anything and everything to do with horses. She was one of several people in Millinocket that had horses, and when the town decided that they no longer wanted horses to be allowed to be kept at families homes, a group went to Great Northern Paper Company, who owned all the land around Millinocket, to ask if they would be willing to donate some land so these families could have a place to keep their horses. Judy took the lead in this effort, and GNP did indeed donate some land which was initially known as the hovel, but soon became known as Birch Hill Stables.Through her love for horses, she created lasting memories not only for her own children, but for countless others. We did so many trail rides that included picnics, horseback games like frozen tag and hide and seek, and hours of pure enjoyment for the love of horses for all who were lucky enough to be a part of it. She was a school bus driver for many years and loved being able to touch the lives of all the kids that rode on her bus. Whether she was doing her daily routes to get the kids to school, or a field trip or a game, she always prayed for each child's well-being while they were in her care. She became a mail carrier after that, and finally retired to the farm and lodging business that she and Willie ran together.
She always had a love for the Lord, but midway through her adult life, she found Him in a new way, and she dedicated her life to serving Him. She was an active member of the church, became a lector and a eucharistic minister, a youth catechism teacher, and did her best to lead many people to the Lord. She was also an active member of Children of the Cross, Acts, and other ministries that lead people to Christ. Her faith in God was unwavering right to the end.
She had a giving and generous soul, and was ready to help anyone, family or not, that had a need. She used to cook meals and deliver them to folks that lived alone or those she knew were struggling to make ends meet, that she thought might enjoy a home cooked meal. Sometimes she would simply go grocery shopping for families to help them through a rough patch, and she never asked for anything in return. She believed wholeheartedly she was here as a servant of the Lord, and she did her best to follow His example to truly "love your neighbor as you love yourself." She supported too many charities to count, and Willie always supported her with all of it.
She leaves behind her husband of nearly 68 years, Willie, Kim Robinson, David and Valerie Pelletier, Barbara Hunt Pelletier, Mary and Jimmy Pocock, and Laurie and Randy Hoisington, 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren with one on the way, and two great-great grandchildren with one on the way, her sister Carolyn Folsom, in-laws Don and Paula Pelletier and Darrell and Dotti Pelletier, very close family friends Greg and Lucy Smith, and several nieces, nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her parents and stepmother Lilla Pinnette, her in-laws Alfreda (Saucier) and Wilmer Pelletier, her brother Robert Pinnette, brother-in-law Clyde Folsom, her son Richard Pelletier, and son-in-law Steven Robinson.
A mass of Christian burial will be held for Judy on May 4, 2024, at St. Benedicts Parish in Benedicta, Maine at 11:00 with Father Dominic Savio to officiate. Luke L. Libbey - April 27, 1978 - February 26, 2024

Departed: 02/26/2024 (Millinocket)
Obituary Preview: Lincoln - It is with extreme sorrow that the family of Luke Landon Libbey of Lincoln, Maine, announce his untimely passing on February 26, 2024, from pancreatic cancer with his wife by his side. Luke was the cherished son of Dean and Gina Libbey of Mattawamkeag, born on April 27, 1978. He is the beloved father of Dominic Libbey, Jillian Libbey, Marissa Libbey and Bennett Libbey; devoted husband to Danielle, and stepfather to Abigail and Evan Theriault.
Luke grew up in a large loving family with his sister, Aimee Libbey, and brother, Tyler Libbey, as his closest and best lifelong friends. Luke had a personality as big as all outdoors with many friends and colleagues across the state and the country. He had a very successful career as a salesman and then sales manager at Unifirst Company in Bangor. Luke won many top salesman awards which afforded him many wonderful trips to warmer climates. He had a big presence not only from his size, being 6'3" with shoulders once compared to that of a Buick, but he had a genuine love of people that came across in his humor and wit. But for all that success, his biggest love was for family, especially for his children, and making sure that we all knew it. He has coached all of his children at the rec. level in baseball, softball, football and basketball. He had spent many hours working with rec. teams and traveling across the state often competing in state games. It was important to him to show his children and the kids in his charge good sportsmanship, leadership and skills.
Luke was a consummate story and joke teller to young and old. His favorite places involved being on the water be it Nana and Papa's pool, where he learned to swim and where he taught his kids, or at the family camp at Madacasgal Pond swimming and boating with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, or at the ocean. Many years ago, he instituted an annual men's weekend at Madacasgal from which many great memories have been made. Luke was an alum of Mattanawcook Academy where he excelled in sports and where he was a great Lynx fan, as well as being one of the biggest Green Bay Packers fans ever. He was a proud cheese head wearer from way back even going so far as walking into Foxborough Stadium to watch his team and the Patriots play while dressed in full Packers gear and being jeered and ridiculed by mothers with babies and grandmas. He was more than a little wary at the time but loved it.
Luke was predeceased by his grandparents, Barbara and Lyman Albert, and Marlene and Herbert Libbey Jr; great-grandparents, Theresa and Herbert Libbey Sr., and Memory and Ralph Gagnon; and Aunt Dale Hanscom and Kip Pelkey. He is survived by his wife, Danielle; mother and father, Dean and Gina Libbey; children, Dominic (Ardyn Weatherbee), Jillian, Marissa, and Bennett Libbey; stepchildren, Abigail and Evan Theriault; sister, Aimee Libbey (Chad Stratton) and family; brother, Tyler Libbey (Libby Caldwell) and family; uncles and aunts, Kip and Shari Albert and family, Rick and Sherryl Albert and family, Brian and Lisa Albert, Dina and Bill Fenn and family, Becky and Delmont Hanscom and family, Dale Hanscom's family, Dixie and Brent Watson and family, Darrell and Lori Libbey and family, and great-aunt and uncle, Theresa and Gerald Clifford and family; father and mother-in-law, Teresa and Steve Hanington; brother and sister-in law, Eric and Krista Hanington and family; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Because he came from such a large family with many treasured friends, he will be remembered forever.
A celebration of Luke's life will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at the Mattanawcook Academy Gymnasium in Lincoln. A reception will follow, and the family invites friends and loved ones to join us at the Knights of Columbus Hall on the South Lincoln Road in Lincoln.
