Robert F Burdett - May 31, 1937 - October 25, 2023

Departed: 10/25/2023 (Marysville)
Obituary Preview: Robert (Bob) Burdett was born in Port Kells, near Langley, British Columbia, on May 31, 1937, to parents George and Frances Burdett. With his older sister, Shirley, and his younger sister, Arleen, he told stories of growing up on the family farm, surrounded by the beauty of the area, as well as fun with cousins and friends. As a teen he worked with an uncle at a logging camp in the summers, and then after high school, joined the Canadian Air Force. He was selected for an intensive training and certification in the new field of electronics. He graduated at the top of his class, and was therefore allowed to select his way of travel to his new posting in Germany, he chose to travel by ship in first class! Serving in Germany, stationed in Baden Baden, he made many friends, both co-workers as well as locals in the area, that he stayed in contact with over the years. He had an MG sports car and would tell stories of driving through the Swiss Alps, where he met his lifelong friends the Arnolds, who took him skiing there in the Alps. He then met his future wife, Helga, who he married in a ceremony in Baden Baden, after winning over her Mother, Edith, who adored him. Bob and Helga returned to Germany often over the years, taking his Auntie Mary as well as his mother Frances along on some of the trips. After his tour was up, the couple returned to Canada for a brief time, and then relocated to Silicon Valley in California, where he put his electronics degree to good use, working for Ampex. Along the way, he had two children, a daughter, Christina, and a son, Clifford. He began to move into his own businesses after a while, starting an electronics repair shop with a friend, and then moving into buying properties, the first of which was a nursing home in Mt. View, and he enlisted his parents to come down from BC to help him run it. After that he purchased a motel in Mt. View, called the Moffit Motel, across from NASA’s Moffit field, and his parents moved to that, managing it for many years. His sister Arleen also came and ran the store on the property. About this time he obtained his pilot's license, and purchased his plane, a cessna. He loved to fly, and even worked for an aircraft company for a time, ARC, traveling the country giving trainings. He would fly up to Canada, visiting his sister Shirley and her husband Roy and taking niece Linda and nephew David for rides in the plane. He always loved his first home in Canada, where he was surrounded by a large family of aunties and uncles and cousins, and stayed in touch with them over the years. He eventually purchased two motels in Oroville, Ca, the Travelers Motel and the Wonderland Motel. His parents moved to Oroville to manage the motels there. Bob also continued to work in Real estate, developing properties and rentals. Bob finally settled in Oroville himself, on a property he called his “Farm” and loved to spend his time tending his fruit trees, his beautiful roses, enjoying his cat, dog and sheep, as well as tinkering with cars and engines on the large property. After struggling with illness for several months, he was taken too quickly from us on Oct 25, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Helga, as well as children Christina and Clifford, and three grandchildren, Alexander, Jiselle and Brandon. Thank you for visiting. The family invites you to please share a memory, post a message, photos or comments on the Tribute wall, as well as to view the posts with pictures of his life. Departed: 08/10/2023 (Marysville)
Obituary Preview: It is with a heavy heart and great sadness to say, our mom Debra Jeanne Hostetler lost her battle with COPD on Thursday August 10th, 2023 at the age of 69. She has crossed over to the other side and greeted by her son Gabriel. Our mother was such a beautiful soul, raising six boys could not have been easy. She did so with such love, grace, passion and faith, we will never be able to repay her. She was born in Patterson, CA. To John R. and Doris L. Martin
As she slipped away from this life, she was surrounded and survived by her husband Pat, children: Mikey (Teresa), Matthew (Leimomi), Lee, Josh (Karessa), and Zack. Her grandchildren: Hailey, Isaiah, Abbygale, Jazzy, Jayleen, Jr., Elizabeth, Emily, Tatiana and Brynlee. And her ex husband Harry. Preceded in death by her mom Doris, Father John, sister Vickie L. Blake and her son Gabriel. Living siblings- John A Martin, Christine L. Both , Robert A. Martin and Dianne M. Martin
Our mother lived a simple life, never really had much, but also never really needed much. She was rich in family and in love, and that was good enough for her.
She had six boys but raised so many more. Our friends were her kids also. She loved each of them as her own as they loved her. Most called her mama.
She touched many hearts. She greeted you with hi love, hi my angel, hi sweetheart, hi honey and always ended a conversation with I love you, uta uta, sweet dreams, and sleep with the angels.
She was a God fearing woman, always reading and writing in her bible. She prayed for those she loved every morning and night. She enjoyed her beer and wine and her puff puff. She could be a stubborn little old Portuguese lady and feisty at times as well. But she loved full heartedly. Her beautiful smile could light up a room and you knew just how happy she was.
We lost a beautiful, loving, sweet soul, but heaven gained an angel. Rest in peace mama. No more pain, no more suffering. Until we meet again. Obituary Preview: When Tomorrow Starts without Me
When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand that an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand. The angel said my place was ready in Heaven far above and that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates, I felt so much at home, for God looked down, smiled at me, and told me, “welcome home.” So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for ever time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.

His proficiencies as a uniform patrol officer, Field Training Officer, SWAT and Special Investigations, to include Vice and Narcotics, were recognized numerous times by the District Attorney’s Office, United States Probation Office, United States Department of Labor / Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigations for his report writing, case preparation,
interview techniques, quality of work and investigations skills. In February 1995, the Vice Investigations Squad was created. The members of this squad were considered to be among the best detectives, which included James MacDonald. James MacDonald was essential in drafting and proposing new laws and county ordinances against prostitution and proposed those laws to the County Commission and the Supreme Court. James MacDonald was requested by and assisted, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office to draft new ordinances, making entertainment services a privileged license. James MacDonald fought for officer rights by proposing free HIV / AIDS testing of police officers who were bitten by prostitutes or exposed by on-the-job related injuries. James MacDonald trained VICE related topics to new recruits in the academy, at in-service training classes, at squad level training in sub-stations and in vice conferences. James MacDonald was essential in closing federal cases,
conducting investigations against escort services and changing escort and entertainment laws. Prior to his retirement in December of 1998, James MacDonald and the Vice squad were
successful in eliminating nearly all escort services in Clark County. After retirement, James MacDonald and his wife moved to Northern California, where he volunteered with the Yuba City Police Department as a background investigator and retired again after 10 years as the Lead Security Officer for the Sutter County Courthouse. James MacDonald will be missed by all who knew him. He was able to connect with so many people during his lifetime and had a positive impact on everyone he met. He had a sense of humor,
enjoyed painting in watercolors and loved animals.

David Thomas Clark - October 23, 1960 - January 16, 2022

Departed: 01/16/2022 (Marysville)
Obituary Preview: David Thomas Corlett of Oregon House (CA) was born in Portland, Oregon, on October 23, 1960 to Sigrid Antonia Fehrenbacher Corlett and Thomas Corbett, both Grant high school graduates and professional musicians. David passed away due to sepsis on January 16, 2022.
David’s father. Tommy Corlett, passed away when David was a young boy; Sigrid married Bud Clark, and Bud adopted David. Sigrid and Bud had three more children together, Jason, Rachel, and Nicolas. The Clark family lived a short while in the Multnomah Village neighborhood of Portland and then moved to Northwest Portland where the family would live until after all of the kids (and even some grandkids) had moved out.
David attended Maplewood and Chapman Elementary Schools and then Lincoln High School. David enjoyed science, music, literature and outdoor activities. David had three sets of grandparents from the combined families, enjoying time with: the Corletts in NE Portland; Nana and Grandpa Henry Fehrenbacher in Tigard, at their U-Pick Blueberry patch mini-farm, barn, berries, and fruits and plants galore; and at Grandma Mildred’s (Bud’s mother) out on the Sandy River, where countless hours were spent inner tubing, swimming, and observing and interacting with nature. David was one of the first skateboarders in Portland, doing stunts like handstands on a penny board, years before skateparks and longboards had become an accepted sport. He even wrote an article for his school newspaper titled Skate boarding… A Real Sport, in which he noted, “The pedestrian and other doubtful onlookers must realize that as they watch a youth careening noisily down a slope at breakneck speed, obviously almost losing control, he is not observing an accomplished skateboarder or even a novice striving to become one.” The article finished with “… it definitely looks like skateboarding is here to stay.” David was not only a wordsmith, but he was wiry, strong, and athletic. He had a small frame with a muscular physique and joined the Lincoln High School wrestling team. Over time, he gained an appreciation for maintaining
good health, showing an early interest in health foods, practicing macrobiotic cooking - and later selling vitamins and nutritional supplements.
Complementing his strong vocabulary and writing skills, David was artistic and cerebral in many ways. As a youth, he learned to play the violin and piano, skills which he kept up, especially the violin, later in life. He was left handed and developed beautiful script handwriting. He collected antiques and especially was interested in primitive kitchen utensils, such as rolling pins, egg beaters, and wooden spoons. This was a passion that he shared with his mother Sigrid, with whom he shared a special bond. He additionally collected many tomes of literature; and some of these books ended up in local bookstores.
Despite his strengths, going to school became increasingly challenging, and just a couple of months before graduating from high school, David dropped out. However, later he went on to get his GED and to learn a trade at Columbia Basin Job Corps Center in Moses Lake, Washington. It was there that he learned masonry, or bricklaying, a skill which he used throughout his life in his profession as a freelance mason, tileworker, and carpenter. His academic scores and time training there reflect a strong understanding of science and literature- and craftsmanship. At Columbia Basin, he logged 1,166 hours of training, including 483 of just bricklaying.
In the early 80s, David learned of a philosophy group, the Fellowship of Friends, which followed the philosophical teachings of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky. He would go to meetings at a house next to Washington Park in Portland, where other followers met to discuss their readings. About 1985, he moved to Oregon House, California, to be close to the Fellowship of Friends. He helped to build the Renaissance Winery, lending his skills as a master of bricklaying to the beautiful architecture/design of the winery. He also played violin in their symphony. He later left the Fellowship.
With his home and a couple of acres in Oregon House as his base, David earned his living building structures, laying tile and brick, and serving as a handyman in the area. He built not only structures, but his reputation as one that people could rely on to get the job done. He also built his reputation as a lover of animals. A rescued litter of kitties turned into a full-time hobby. While years ago, he had dogs and even a horse, in the end, it was cats who captured his heart.
He was surrounded by his feline friends when he passed away. On Sunday, March 20, at noon, David’s family and friends will gather at the Dobbins Church (10034 Marysville Rd, Dobbins, CA) for a for a memorial service in his honor. Donations can be made to … your choice: Perfect Paws Animal Advocates, and mention David’s Colony. Leslie and her volunteers have been working to trap and spay and neuter all of the cats that were left behind when David passed. Now…they just need homes! Visit Perfect Paws Facebook page and scroll to see videos of David’s Colony as well as the many other projects of this rescue organization Their site - https://www.facebook.com/perfectpawsaa David’s Colony - https://www.facebook.com/page/750544468383945/search/?q=david%27s%20colony Thank you, The Clark Family
