Obituary Preview: Douglas McArthur Creech, 79, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022. He was born May 16, 1943 in Johnston County. He was the youngest of the late James Herman Creech and Lois Eason Creech’s four boys. Doug honorably served his country in the US Air Force which left an impression both figuratively and literally as he commissioned his only tattoo while in service. He met his late wife, Sally, back home in Johnston County and quickly knew she was the love of his life. They were married within 6 months and together for 52 years. Shortly after marriage, they completed the long cross-county move from Johnston County to West Raleigh, but he always maintained he was a “country boy” at heart. He remained devoted to his family as it expanded to his three children, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, great-granddaughter, and his beloved dog Luke. Doug spent 35+ years of service as a car sales manager, with many of those years at Southern States Imports. Post-retirement, never one to sit still, Doug enjoyed traveling. Some of his favorite repeat destinations were New York, Cancún, Washington DC, and Disney World. When at home, he loved to start his days with words of wisdom and inspiration at breakfast with his dear friends and end his days on the farm in Wendell. Doug was a great swimmer. Affectionately nicknamed Duck by his brothers, in the summers he could be found floating in his pool or zipping around on his zero-turn mower. As much as he loved the outdoors, Doug’s favorite hobby was bargain shopping. His loss will not only impact his dear family and friends, but also the bottom line of Habitat for Humanity, Belk, Costco, and Walmart’s Garden Center.

June Gill Perry - January 18, 1935 - June 30, 2022

Departed: 06/30/2022 (Knightdale)
Obituary Preview: June Gill Perry, 87, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2022 surrounded by family. June was born in Franklin County, North Carolina on January 18, 1935 to the late Jarvis Wesley Perry and Frances Chamblee Perry. Growing up as one of five siblings, June’s days were filled with schooling, farming, and tending to whatever his daddy told him to do in the family general store in Pearces, North Carolina. June met the love of his life, Patsy King Perry, his senior year of high school. Their love story is their grandchildren’s favorite.
June’s life transitioned to Wake County when he attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He majored in Agriculture and graduated in 1958. After graduation, he continued to support the North Carolina State Alumni Association and instilled a love of the Wolfpack in all of his family. After college, June served his country in the North Carolina National Guard and was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant.
June and Pat got married on December 15, 1956. On Easter Monday of 1960, the Perrys became residents of Wendell, North Carolina. In June of ‘60, June became the owner and operator of Perry’s Hardware Store, Inc. in downtown Wendell. Later that year, June and Pat welcomed their twin boys, Barry and Larry; four years later, their daughter Lisa made her appearance. To the end of his life, June only ever introduced Lisa as “my baby”.
June believed in leaving his corner of the world better than he found it, and he was as devoted to his community as he was his family. Before moving to Wendell, June worked for the Franklin County School System as Principal of Harris School in Bunn, North Carolina. Upon moving to Wendell, he was a loyal member of Wendell Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and the Chairman of the Building Committee. He was a board member of the First Union National Bank, former President of the Wendell Rotary Club, and the Chairman for the Building Committee for the Wendell Chamber of Commerce and the Wendell Senior Citizen Center. He was a Lifetime 50-year member of the Wendell Masonic Lodge, #565. He was Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Wendell Schools, and he was a member of the Wake County Emergency Medical Services Board. He was also an owner in the Developers of Wendell, Incorporated. June was delighted to see people love Wendell as he did. June was also the mayor of Wendell from 1975-1979.
When June retired in 1997, he kept his focus on his family and his community. He helped where it was needed: with his grandchildren, at church, or around Perry’s Hardware Store. “The store” - as the family affectionately called it - served its community for 119 years before it closed in 1999; June was proud of its legacy as one of Wendell’s longest-run businesses. June was only a phone call away, which he always reminded his grandchildren as they grew up and spread their own wings. He could be found each morning at The Table of Knowledge at Aubrey and Peedie’s Grill on Main Street or mowing his lawn with the most meticulous rows you’ve ever seen. On Sunday afternoons, he would be surrounded by his children and grandchildren, talking and laughing after a family meal. June loved to tell a story or have a visit, whether he’s known you for years or for minutes. What he had was yours, if you needed it.
In addition to his parents, June was preceded in death by his son, Larry Leon Perry on January 11, 1998. All three of his brothers also were waiting for him in glory: J.W. Perry, Jr., Hal Perry, and Ned Perry.
June is survived by his wife, partner, and kindred-soul, Pat Perry, and two of his children: son, Barry Perry and daughter, Lisa Perry Sanderson (Steven), both of Wendell, and his daughter-in-law, Michele Williams Perry Seidel (Tommy) of Raleigh, and his sister, Lou Perry Tippett (Lyndo) of Raleigh. His six beloved grandchildren - who adoringly called him Granddaddy - also survive him: Hannah Perry Hopkins (Lee), Rebekah Sanderson (Christopher Hathcock), Emily Sanderson Mills (Andrew), Caleb Sanderson (Kaitlyn), Morgan Perry Seidel Abreu (Eduardo), and Maggie Seidel. June is also survived by great-grandchildren Eden, Eliza, Drew, Leah, Sophie, and Eloise. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of this giant of a man will be held at Wendell Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 10 a.m. The family will receive visitors in the Wendell Baptist Fellowship Hall immediately after the service. The family will commit the body to burial in a private service at a later time.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Wendell Baptist Church in lieu of flowers, mailing address PO Box 187, Wendell, NC 27591.

Henry Stevens Proctor - July 29, 1934 - June 29, 2022

Departed: 06/29/2022 (Knightdale)
Obituary Preview: Henry Stevens Proctor, age 87 of Raleigh, NC, passed away on Wednesday June 28, 2022. He was born to the late Daniel Carlton Proctor, Sr. and Elizabeth Alline Stevens Proctor on July 29, 1934 in Parkton, NC (Robeson County). He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 15 years, Barbara McEwen Proctor; his first wife, Nancy Cloer Godley; sister, Claudia Proctor Watson (Harvey); brothers: Daniel Carlton Proctor (Ruth) and William Wesley Proctor (Vicki). He is survived by daughters: Tracy Proctor Mustin (Lloyd) and Susan White Pruitt (Ralph); sons: Henry Stevens Proctor II (Misty) and M. Henry White (Yariv); seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Lenna McEwen McLean of Southern Pines, NC, Rosalind McEwen of Laurel, MD, and Beth McEwen Etheridge of Aiken, SC; and brother-in-law, James McEwen of Hamlet, NC along with too many nieces and nephews across all branches of his amazing family to reasonably count. Henry graduated from Parkton High School in 1952. He began his working life with First Union National Bank in Hamlet, NC but spent most of his career at the North Carolina Highway Patrol Training Center from which he retired after 20 years in 2009. Henry Proctor was a man who could find joy in the simplest of things. He was a friend to everyone he met, be they human or canine. Henry found “family” in every aspect of his life, be it with First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, where he was an active member for over 30 years, or at Sterling Glenwood Apartments where he had become an unofficial ambassador and helpmate to any neighbor with a problem to be solved. His special relationship to a small group of residents (informally known as “The Lobby Lizards”) helped enable him to live independently and was a comfort to his family who knew there was always someone looking out for him. He was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, uncle and brother whose kindness, gentleness, and quirky sense of humor inspired us every day. He was a man who not only said what he believed but showed the true nature of his servant’s heart in the way he lived every day. He saw beauty in everything and knew how to savor a moment (and a good home-cooked meal). He was at peace at the end knowing that he was right with God and ready to begin his eternal life in Heaven.
The family would like to thank the medical staff in the Medical Surgery Intensive Care Unit at Rex Hospital in Raleigh where Henry spent his final days under their attentive and loving care.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, 1:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, 112 S. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC. A reception will be held immediately after the service for friends and family at the church.

Obituary Preview: Deborah Denise Camp, 65, passed away peacefully at her home June 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was a fierce, strong, witty friend, wife, mother, grandma, nana, and sister. She was born on September 1, 1956 in Kansas, the daughter of Jim Rountree and Betty Wiles. She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Rountree and step-mother, Phyllis Rountree.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Scott Camp; daughter, Janelle Kaye Pendleton and husband Lee and their children: Colt, Chandler, and Justin; son, Jason Gregg Walton and wife, Melina and their children: Chance, Carly, and Gavin; daughter, Brittney Anne Tonnesen and husband James and their children: Addison and Asher; daughter, Brianna Nicole Camp and her fiancé Aaron; mother and stepfather Betty and Phillip Wiles; brother, Mark Rountree and his husband Don. There are countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that have become family that are just too great to list - but are not any less important.
She leaves behind a family and large group of friends that she was very proud of. Debby or “Sarge”, as she was known to many, was world-renowned for not holding back her opinion and a knack for telling it like it is. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. With that said she was genuine to a fault, a pussy cat at heart (or lioness) and yet she sugar coated nothing.
All whom loved her dearly and will never forget her love for the beach, her tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent) and undying love and caring for them.
A celebration of life memorial visitation will be held Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

Ronald Samuel Reitz - March 10, 1941 - June 17, 2022

Departed: 06/17/2022 (Knightdale)
Obituary Preview: Ronald Samuel Reitz, loving husband and father, master golfer, teacher and mentor entered eternal life on Friday June 17, 2022.  His spirit is carried on by his wife, his two children, seven grandchildren and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. Ronnie was born to Richard and Daisy Reitz on March 10, 1941 in Wernersville, Pennsylvania.  As a youth, he developed a strong athletic background by participating in basketball, baseball, soccer and golf.  He was inducted into the Conrad Weiser High School Hall of Fame for three sports.  After winning the state championship in golf with a bag of lost and found clubs, none of which came from the same set, he was offered numerous golf scholarships.  Ronnie chose to attend PGA school in Florida and upon graduation joined the staff at Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, NC. Here was where he crossed paths with a young lifeguard and his future wife, Carolyn Murray. Ronnie’s accomplishments and the gifts he shared with others throughout his life centered around three primary areas: his love for family, his love for the game of golf, and his love for Christ. Though Ronnie considered many family, his greatest affection was for those closest to him.  Ronnie and Carolyn were married for 59 years and were devoted to one another.  What one was involved in, the other was also involved in; they were inseparable.  Ronnie loved his children, Edie and Beau, unconditionally. He was the father little girls looked up to for Edie and showed his support for her from her medal winning swimming and cheerleading years to recent simple chats while traveling around together.  With Beau, he shared his love and knowledge of golf along with his fanatical love for Duke Basketball. Papa Ronnie tried to brainwash the grandchildren to love Duke as much as he did, and he kept them entertained with his jokes and letting them steal his ice cream. Ronnie had over 55 years of golf experience.  As a player, he was successful in several Carolinas PGA Sectional Tournaments and was a qualifier other PGA Tournaments. ln 1967 he qualified for the National Professional Golf Championship (Columbine, Colorado) and played well enough to be at the top of the leader board. Ronnie was honored by the National PGA as a teacher and for his work in the promotion of junior golf. He was recognized as the Carolinas PGA Teacher of the Year, and twice as the Carolinas PGA Junior Promoter of the Year. He served on the Carolinas PGA Board and other various committees within the Carolinas PGA Section. Ronnie was Head Professional at North Ridge Country Club for fourteen years, Wake Forest Country Club for several years, and River Ridge Golf Club for four years. His work was instrumental in developing the Triangle Junior Golf Program, and in developing the Executive Women’s Golf League in Wake County. Ronnie’s assistance with EWGA nationally helped this organization grow into a successful golf program for women throughout the country. He served as a lead golf instructor at Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Camps and helped develop the YMCA Seagull and Seafarer Golf Camps. Within Wake County, he coached several high school men’s and women’s golf teams that produced several successful junior players. From this group came NCHSAA State Champions, Conference Players of the Year, and an ACC Player of the Year. He was an energetic, patient, fun-loving golf instructor who coached all experience levels. Above all, Ronnie believed the only way to walk with God was to keep God in the center of his life.  He devoted fifteen years as a leader and mentor with Bible Study Fellowship which reinforced to him that his life was truly about God first, not golf.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Carolyn Murray Reitz; daughter, Edith Elizabeth Rhyne (Bob); son, Ronald “Beau” S. Reitz, II; grandchildren: Robert Rhyne, Bailey Rhyne, Noah Reitz, Preston Reitz, Savannah Reitz, Tristan Aiken and  Bella Aiken.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his sister, Dawn Pettaline.
A service to celebrate Ronnie’s life will be held at 11:00am on June 27, 2022 at Richland Creek Community Church, 3229 Burlington Mills Road Wake Forest, NC 27587.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Avenue Raleigh, NC 27601.
His family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 am to 10:45 am on June 27, 2022 at Richland Creek Community Church.
Memorial contributions honoring Ronnie may be made to Richland Creek Community Church. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
