Jeffrey Scott Krupicka - August 05, 1968 - March 27, 2022

Departed: 03/27/2022 (Hebron)
Obituary Preview: Obit Jeffrey Scott Krupicka-53 of Carleton, NE Kroll Funeral Home-Hebron 402-768-6165
Jeffrey Scott Krupicka of Carleton, NE, the son of Don and Kathy (Shea) Krupicka, was born on August 5, 1968, in Lincoln, NE, and passed on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron, NE, surrounded by his family.
Jeff was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Friend, NE, and was confirmed at the Ohiowa United Methodist Church.
Growing up in the Ohiowa area, Jeff attended Ohiowa Public School until it closed in 1982. He then terrorized a whole new set of teachers with old and new friends and graduated in 1986. While attending Bruning, school administration finally realized the error of their ways and allowed Jeff to spend most of his school day in the shop with Mr. Hogeland, much to the relief of his teachers. There, Jeff learned lifelong mechanical skills and important lessons, such as blowing up school desks.
After graduation, Jeff realized his lifelong love for the military by joining the National Guard in 1986, and was called into active duty serving in Bosnia, Germany and Kuwait. He was honorably discharged in 2008.
Jeff married Jill Domeier in 1988, and he worked for his Uncle Larry and Aunt Laura Krupicka at Carleton Motors as a mechanic. They had three kids: Lynlee Dawn, Kaitlyn Brett, and Talmadge Jeffrey (TJ). Later, he married Becky Barton, and they had Morgan Jo, who tragically passed at six weeks of age. Jeff reconnected with Katie Elting, and they married on March 28, 2008. With this marriage, he gained her three sons: Levi, Briar, and Nathan.
All of his life, Jeff was mischievous, a prankster, and wild……and did we mention wild?! Jeff never drove a car, truck, motorcycle, or 10 speed bike he couldn’t wreck. However, he was pretty skilled at driving a tank. Perhaps the size helped him keep it on the road. Teaming up with his brother Greg, later his brother Eric, and then his buddies, Jeff was always thinking of the next prank, such as throwing snapping turtles in peoples’ vehicles. His brother-in-law Curt was one of his favorite targets. Being a pyro, he and Greg had a hand in burning up Dad’s brand-new Ford pick-up, and he always used way too much gas to burn the garbage, resulting in many singed eyebrows. Jeff had a way of constantly “falling” into trouble. The time he fell into a fresh sewer pit while moving bar equipment in Schuyler for Champs Bar was just one of many. He enjoyed ramming around with his friends and warring with guys from the surrounding rival towns while in high school, with whom they all had beers after graduating, laughing at their high jinks. Jeff, his siblings, and friends also loved going to the Air Base to whip kitties and have parties by bonfires.
Jeff loved racing, Nascar, and especially Jeff Gordon. He also loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Huskers.
Family was very important to Jeff, and he was extremely proud of his kids and grandkids. He busted with pride to see TJ on his state football, basketball, and track teams and Lynlee and Kaitlyn’s state basketball teams. He and Katie enjoyed the kids’ proms and weddings and seeing Nat and Cam in their Halloween costumes. However, he frequently asked the kids, “What the hell did you do that for?” and he would call every boyfriend Lynlee and Kaitlyn had “Bozo”. He’d always ask the kids, “Why don’t you show me how tall you are?” and when they did, he would say, “Now, go get me a beer since you’re up!” Jeff enjoyed teaching kids to hunt and trap, especially his nephew Patrick. He was also very protective of his little sister, Caker, who also dated some Bozos.
Jeff is preceded in death by daughter Morgan Krupicka, dad Don Krupicka, grandparents Lester and Wilma Krupicka, Duane and Virginia Vavra, and Jack Shea and nephew, Remington Elting.
Jeff is survived by his wife Katie of Carleton; daughters Lynlee (Jamey) Sealey of Davenport; Kaitlyn (Will) Mick of Ayr; sons TJ (Ashley) Krupicka of Davenport; Levi (Kelsey) Templin of Kearney; Briar (Alicia) Templin of Bruning; and Nathan Wessels of Beech, ND; mom Kathy Krupicka of Hebron; sisters Kelly (Curt) Mumm and Michaela Krupicka of Hebron; brothers Greg Krupicka of Ohiowa; Eric (Jen) Krupicka of Hebron; brother-in-law Kurtis Elting and wife Susie of Davenport, NE, grandchildren Natalie and Cambrie Linscomb and Kile Sealey of Davenport and Kamerin and Kesley Sealey of Edgar; Parker Templin, Bruning; future Baby Girl Krupicka, Davenport, Laikyn Templin and Alivia Petersen of Kearney, and numerous nieces and nephews, family, and friends.

Departed: 01/26/2022 (Hebron)
Obituary Preview: Obit LaDonna Louise Avers of York formerly Hebron, NE Kroll Funeral Home Hebron, NE 402-768-6165
LaDonna Louise (Priefert) Avers was born in Hebron, Nebraska on June 22, 1933 to Dail H. and Varena L. (Casper) Priefert and died on January 26, 2022 from health complications at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 34 days.
LaDonna spent her first 1 ½ years in Belvidere, NE with her parents. She and her family then moved to the Priefert family farm east and south of Belvidere, NE and lived there until she was the age of 12. While living there, she attended a one room school house.
When she was 12, she and her family moved to the east edge of Belvidere, NE where she then attended school in Belvidere and graduated from Belvidere High School in 1951. After graduation, she attended Fairbury Jr. College for two summers which qualified her to teach. She taught two years at District 25 school house outside of Belvidere, NE.
Loving music and dancing, LaDonna spent some social time attending dances with her friends. It was at one of these dances that she met the love of her life. She then married Allen Lee Avers on December 27, 1952. At that time Allen was a member of the armed services so they lived outside Fort Leonard Wood, MO. They lived there until after her first daughter, Ardys Lynne was born (1954). Leaving Missouri, the family moved to farms near Belvidere where daughters, Audrey Louise and Laurie Ann were born (1955-1959). In 1962, the family left farming and moved to Papillion, NE for a year (1962-63). During that time, a son, Larry Alan was born in Omaha, NE. The family then moved to Hebron, NE in 1963. LaDonna lived in Hebron until March 2016 when health issues forced her to leave her home. She finally settled in York General Hearthstone, York, NE where she lived until her passing.
During her childhood, LaDonna loved nothing more than to curl up with a good book and read which resulted in a life long activity. She liked nothing less than collecting eggs in the chicken coop causing her lifelong fear of birds. As a student she worked hard at school and established her love of education and sports. She played volleyball in high school where she remembers serving every point in one set to win the match.
Along with teaching school, LaDonna also taught Sunday School at the Congregational Church in Belvidere and Methodist Church in Hebron. She was also a 4-H leader for many years teaching girls how to sew and cook. LaDonna was a founder and lifelong member of the Better Homemakers Extension Club of Belvidere. She was also a two time president and life long member of the Belvidere Woman’s Club. As a member, she would occasionally submit a poem she wrote to the state Woman’s Club competition and received honorable mention. She had a love for writing poetry which began in high school. Her first poem was a result of an English assignment. It was called “A Whistle In the Night.” From then on, she wrote many, many poems about her beloved family members, dear friends, special occasions, and personal interests. For fun, she enjoyed bowling with her teammates and playing Pinochle with her husband and friends.
In LaDonna’s years after her children left home, she filled her time with work and additional memberships. She joined the Thayer County Historical Society and the Thayer County Hospital Guild Gift Shop. After retiring she enjoyed volunteering at Things And Stuff, and she was part of the committee that planned, built, and maintains the Belvidere Community Center. She helped with the conception of the Whistle Stop Train Watching Station in Belvidere. LaDonna also wrote the Belvidere News column for the Hebron Journal until health issues forced her to stop. One of her greatest joys was attending her grandchildren’s activities. Another of her lifelong joys was cheering on the Husker sports teams. She had fond memories of listening to the radio and hearing the play-by-play of the Husker games. She was a proud Democrat, and one of her favorite songs was “The Wind Beneath My Wings”(by Jeff Silbar and Larry Henley). In a hand written note, she had written that her husband, Allen had always been the wind beneath her wings.
Those mourning LaDonna’s death include: son-in-law, Jeff Dunsmoor of York, NE, daughter, Audrey (Larry) Mathiesen of Lincoln, NE, and son, Larry (Suzanne) Avers of Spirit Lake, ID; grandchildren, Nic Dunsmoor, Chelsea (Sharmelle) Rice, and Annastacia (Nick) Korth, Vagas (Lauren) Mathiesen, Katie Mathiesen (Jeremy Brown), Nathan Avers, and Sierra Avers; great-grandchildren, CJ, Tori, Logan, and Clifford Rice, McKaylee, Brynlee and Kyler Korth, Nash and Nora Mathiesen, Calee and Myles Brown, Nathaniel Avers and Haileigh Moutray, Arabella and Aurora Avers, and great-great grandson, Ashton Baker; sister; Linda Hudson, brother, Russ (Bonnie) Priefert, plus many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and a host of medical, nursing, and care staff who were a mainstay in the last few years of her life.

Everett Jean Thompson - March 24, 1933 - December 22, 2021

Departed: 12/22/2021 (Hebron)
Obituary Preview: Obit Everett “Jean” Thompson-88 Kroll Funeral Home-Hebron, NE 402-768-6165
Everett ‘Jean’ Thompson died December 22, 2021 at Wisner Care Center in Wisner, Nebraska with family by his side. He was 88 years of age.
Jean was a good man. He loved his family, and he loved his friends, and he would do anything for them within his power if he saw a need. He started his story in Chester, Nebraska and ended his life telling stories at the Wisner Care Center.
Out of Chester high school, he entered the Navy during the Korean War and served four years on the USS Kidd, in which he took high pride being part of that. He loved to tell his stories about his extensive and interesting history on that ship to everyone.
Ending his Navy experience in San Diego CA, he met and married Helen Kimball to which two children were born into the world—a daughter Yvonne and a son Timothy. He started his civilian work experience with Boston Gearworks, then became a milkman with a dairy in Northern California, driving a milk truck and becoming a salesman. Shortly thereafter he took a job at Berkeley Farms dairy doing the same. He loved selling milk and telling his stories to the people who bought his products in the Berkeley area. After his time at Berkeley Farms, he became a bus driver for AC transit where he met so many new friends and had so many new stories to tell.
Despite his success in California, he still loved the Midwest. In the early 70s, Jean and his family moved to Belleville, Kansas before settling in Chester, Nebraska to help his parents and to start a new life.
He worked for the Village of Chester, Thayer County, and eventually he started his own business, Thompson Construction.
He and Helen moved to Hastings, Nebraska where he worked for Thermo-King and other short term jobs, but the call of Chester was too strong and they moved back. He finished out his working life content with Thompson Construction. He loved building, and he was good at it. He had an excellent work ethic which he passed down to his kids. He loved to brag that he never had a job that lasted over five years before he became his own contractor. Those other jobs served as steppingstones until he could get back to what he truly loved to do.
He also loved coffee and good food. He liked baking and cooking with Helen, making cheese, and other things that his children took for granted. After the death of Helen he met many other new friends, and he became very close with Carol Jackson who continued to be a dear friend until his death.
His story ended when he could no longer tell the stories, but it will always be retold and remembered by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Flora Thompson of Chester, two brothers, Blaine of Sydney, Nebraska, and Bill of Belleville, Kansas, one sister Lois of Laramie, Wyoming, and his wife Helen.
Everett “Jean” Thompson is survived by one daughter, Yvonne Wilhelms and her husband Bruce of Sibley, Iowa, and one son, Timothy Thompson and his wife Amy of Quartz Hill, California, six grandchildren—three children to Yvonne and Bruce (Kelly Wilhelms of Chandler AZ, Holly Olsen(Keith) of Canton South Dakota and Joey Wilhelms of Sheldon Iowa), and three children to Timothy and Amy Thompson (Grace Plant of Missoula, Montana, and Henry Thompson and Aiden Thompson who still live with their parents). Jean also has six great grandsons.
He will be missed by all.
Following Jean’s wishes he was cremated and a memorial service will be held Friday, December 31, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, NE at 10:30AM. Officiant will be Pastor Robert Hopkins, organist Carol Wassom, congregational hymns “I Love To Tell The Story”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. Memorials in care of the family in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Yvonne Wilhelms- 828 9th Avenue Sibley, IA 51249. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Maxine Alice Currey - February 13, 1920 - December 08, 2021

Departed: 12/08/2021 (Hebron)
Obituary Preview: Obit Maxine Alice Currey-101 of Hebron, NE Kroll Funeral Home Hebron, NE 402-768-6165
Maxine Alice Currey, 101, of Hebron, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home. She was born on February 13, 1920, in Burchard, Nebraska, to Clara and J. C. Pepperl. The family moved to Belvidere when Maxine was in the 7th grade, and she graduated from Belvidere High School in 1936.
As a child, her closest playmate was her sister, Betty, who was a year younger. They had a playhouse with child-size furniture that their father, who ran the Burchard lumberyard, had built for them. People often mistook them for twins, dressed in matching outfits that their mother made. In her teen years she helped out in her father's hardware store and lumberyard in Belvidere. When she was a high school junior she was named one of Nebraska's leading young citizens for 1935 by the World Herald and the American Legion. She remembered the dinner given in honor of herself and the other nine winners, the rousing ovation they received, and the dress that she wore, borrowed from her sister. New clothes were hard to come by in those Depression years.
Maxine taught in several rural, one-room schools after her high school graduation, barely older than some of her students. In 1938 she married Myron Currey, her high school sweetheart, and they had two children, Peggy Ann and Ted William. After her marriage she lived the life of a farm wife, cooking for hired men, hauling grain and fertilizer, and helping with irrigation. But she missed the retail business and interacting with the public, so she briefly worked part-time at the Hested's store in Hebron.
In the winter months, she enjoyed traveling with Myron to visit family in Arizona, California, Washington, and New York. After Myron's death in 1981 she moved from the farm to Hebron and took a part-time job at Western Auto. In town, she took part in Bible study groups and card clubs, and Sunday dinners with friends at nearby cafes. She was active in volunteer work and was one of the first Gray Ladies at the nursing home. One year she received the good neighbor award from an Omaha radio station, nominated by a neighbor. Her grandchildren remember her as a fun Grandma Max who baked cookies and played games with them, and cheered them on at sporting events. She continued to enjoy traveling, often with her daughter, to England, the Grand Canyon, Alaska, and other parts of the U.S. Maxine was a faithful, long-time member of the Belvidere United Church of Christ, where she served as Sunday school superintendent for many years. After the onset of the pandemic, she missed attending services there.
Maxine lived in her own home until last May, when she entered the nursing home. There she received attentive care from kind nurses and staff and, recently, from members of hospice. Everyone there said she was a sweetheart.
Maxine is survived by her daughter Peggy Meerse, her daughter-in-law Diane Currey, her sister-in-law Gladys Johnson, her grandchildren Elizabeth Frazier and husband Mike, Carmen Zalman and husband Mike, Richard Currey and wife Socorro, Katherine Meerse and husband David Woodard, and John Meerse and wife Stephanie, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Myron, her son Ted, her sisters Betty Schafer and Patty Timmerman and their husbands, Myron's sisters Margaret Paul and Bess Harmon and their husbands, and Myron's brother Clinton Currey and his wife.
Maxine grieved the loss of many family members and friends, and although she missed them dearly, she maintained her positive and independent spirit into the last years of her life.
Public visitation will be Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE 2-5 PM. Public burial will be in the Belvidere Cemetery at 2PM on Monday, December 13, 2021. Private family service will be December 23, 2021. Memorial in care of the family. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jo Streber - January 25, 1952 - October 17, 2021

Departed: 10/17/2021 (Hebron)
Obituary Preview: Obit Betty Jo Hergott-69 of Omaha formerly Hebron, NE Kroll Funeral Home Hebron, NE 402-768-6165
Betty Jo (Hergott) Streber was born on January 25, 1952 in Fairbury, Nebraska. She was baptized, and later confirmed, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilead. She made her first communion at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Betty received the sacrament of matrimony to Merlin “Pumpkin” Streber on February 14, 1987 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron. Betty went to meet her heavenly father Sunday, October 17th in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 69 and surrounded by loved ones.
Betty grew up on the family farm near Gilead as the second oldest of 16 children. She enjoyed helping her mom with cooking and taking care of her younger siblings, often reading to them way past bedtime. She also adored farm animals, especially the kittens. Betty helped her mother run the daycare in Gilead, Pat’s Kiddy Kampus, for a number of years and was particularly fond of holding the infants. Although she never had any children of her own, she had plenty of nieces and nephews she spoiled and always had a smile and lap for them to sit on, as well as attending their events.
Betty lived in Lincoln for several years, where she worked as a cook and traveled with her husband, Merlin, to see family members in neighboring states. The couple eventually relocated to Hebron where they enjoyed playing bingo and cards, in addition to spending time with family. Betty never forgot a sibling's name, birthday, or anniversary, even sending them a card every year to commemorate their special day.
Betty was sometimes called “Betty Spaghetti,” which always made her smile, even in her final moments, because she didn’t actually like spaghetti. Over the past 20 years, Betty lived in various nursing homes, where she always enjoyed participating in activities and seeing her many visitors. However, one of her main requests for visiting was to bring some of her favorites: frog eye salad, fish sandwiches, strawberry shakes, and anything lemon flavored.
Betty cherished her fancy dangling earrings and flashy painted nails. She also preferred the color red, which made her a huge fan of both the Huskers and Valentine’s Day. One of her favorite shows was “Wheel of Fortune,” which probably came from her being an avid word searcher and strong speller. In fact, she often won the spelling contests in whatever nursing home she lived in. She also delighted in praying, singing, putting together puzzles, and playing games. Of course, one of Betty’s favorite games was cards, which she would play anytime with anyone, but her opponent/s better be prepared to lose. She even played on one of her last good days, beating a number of siblings. Some of her favorite card games were pitch, golf, and kings corner.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; parents, Paul and Patricia (DeWald) Hergott; sister-in-law, Suzanne (McCains) Hergott; and nephew, Karl Hundtofte. Survivors include her siblings: Barb Arner (Dan) of Fairbury; Bob of Hebron; Rick (Ila) of Lincoln; Herb (Vicki) of Berthoud, CO; Margaret Kobel of Winston-Salem, NC; Cheryl Dougherty (Mike) of Gilead; Mike (Tina) of Colorado Springs, CO; Cyndi Shinn (Gary) of Fairbury; Becky Hoover (Tom) of Fairbury; Rita Luongo (John) of Hebron; Steve (Kay) of Papillion; Brian (Jody) of Windsor, CO; Jeff (Heidi) of Eagle; Jan Behn (Dan) of Hickman; and Janelle Coady (Eric) of Roca; aunts, uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, Nebraska on Saturday, October 23rd at 10 am. Rosary will be held at the same location on Friday evening at 6 pm. Officiant will be Father Steve Major, honorary casket bearers will be her brothers, cremation no visitation. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.krollfh.com. Memorial in care of the family. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
