Obituary Preview: Thyra May Stout, age 95 of White Cloud, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, April 28, 2024.  She was born on September 30, 1928 in Muskegon, Michigan to Jerry & Effie May (Clark) Beebe.  Thyra was a member of Aetna Calvary Church.  She loved her dog Lucy, and she enjoyed the game show channel and watching birds.  On November 27, 1946 she married Herbert “Herb” Stout and he preceded her in death on October 17, 2017.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, and by 3 brothers & 2 sisters.  Thyra is survived by 3 daughters:  Sally (Jeff) Wabindato of Muskegon, Lori (Rick) Lifer of Muskegon, Rachel (Rich) Castle of White Cloud; 9 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, & several great-great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.  According to her wishes cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life Luncheon will take place from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Friday, May 3, 2024 in the Aetna Calvary Church Fellowship Hall.  Interment will be in West Hesperia Cemetery.  Suggested Memorial:  Hospice of Michigan – Newaygo County.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.

Obituary Preview: Geraldine “Gerrie” Beverly Ruzinsky, age 90 of Grant, went Home to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday afternoon, April 28, 2024.  In addition to being a devoted mother, Gerrie was also an accomplished artist and oil painter, prayer warrior and teacher of The Word. She loved the beauty of spring flowers and the fragrance from the lilac bushes.
She was born on August 25, 1933 in Sparta, Michigan to George and Julia (Hile) Gilbert.  On November 7, 1953 she married William James Ruzinsky and he survives her along with 3 children:  William James & Christine Ruzinsky, Jr. of Loveland, Colorado, Julia Ann Gawron of Newaygo, Pastors Paul & Colleen Ruzinsky of Grant; 6 grandchildren:  Luke Ruzinsky, Ben (Jessica) Ruzinsky, Erin (Alex) Gawron-Hyla, Gregory (Tangela) Gawron, Ernestina “Annie” (Ben) Davis, Duane Ruzinsky; 5 great-grandchildren:  Aila, Owen, Nolana, Noah, & Evolette; and 1 sister, Linda Helton.  Gerrie was preceded in death by her brother Max, and by her sisters Elsie & Goldie.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Resonate Church in Newaygo with her son, Pastor Paul Ruzinsky, officiating. Resonate Church is located at 302 E 68th St, Newaygo, MI 49337.  Visitation will also be at the church from 9-10 AM on Saturday.  Interment will be in Bridgeton Township Cemetery. Eileen (Christensen) Ferguson.  He graduated from Holton High School in 1975, and worked various jobs throughout his life.  Wes brightened the day, was a positive soul, and he loved nature and tracking those wildlife sightings.  He enjoyed hunting in Montana, fishing in Canada, as well as dirt & ice bike racing.  Wes will be missed, and he is survived by his dad Glen Ferguson of Twin Lake, Michigan; daughter, Sara (Mike Colvin) Ferguson of Twin Lake, Michigan; 3 grandchildren:  Wesley, Kinsleigh, & Lesleigh; sisters:  Deb (David Pearson) Ferguson of Twin Lake, Michigan, Lynn (Harry) Braafhart of Fremont, Michigan; niece Britney (Daniel) Durham and their children Railee, Sutton, & Daniel; and by his nephew, Harry (fiancee Ashtyn Hooker) Braafhart.  He was preceded in death by his mother, E. Obituary Preview: Gayle Delores Froehle age 87 of Fremont, Michigan passed away Saturday morning on April 13th, 2024. She was born at home on September 23rd, 1936 in Dayton Township of Newaygo County. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents Milan and Leona (Platt) Cornell; her beloved husband Robert Froehle; her brother William Cornell; and her three sisters Yvonne, Fern (Ed) Nelson, and Naoma (Roger) Canull. She is survived by her two sons Gary Timmer and Gregg Timmer; step children Dave Froehle, Mike (Carmen) Froehle, and Mary (Steve) Christoffersen; grandchildren Zenn Timmer, Riley (Chase) Wever, Sabrina (Payton) Schrader, Shaina Timmer, Keagan Timmer, and Taya Timmer; step grandchildren Matt (Kasey) Froehle, Ashley (Joe) Turcsak, Melisa (Stephan) Miller, Jason (Sandi) Christoffersen, and Amanda (Rob) Smith; many great grandchildren and extended loved ones.
Gayle Froehle graduated from Newaygo High School, Class of 1955. She made a career out of working for the town bank, being a switchboard operator, as well as cleaning houses. Gayle was a gentle soul with a tender heart who went on to raise two boys with her first husband. She later remarried in 1992 to Robert Froehle and settled down in Fremont, Michigan. They were fortunate to have found one another and were happily married for 16 years before Robert’s passing.
Gayle’s hobbies included being an avid reader, playing cards, and solving crossword puzzles. During the summer months as the grandchildren were growing up, she hosted them at the family cottage every Monday. She enjoyed paddle boating, swimming, and watching the grandchildren play. In the winter months, she flew south to the small town of Ruskin, Florida to enjoy the sunshine and good company of her friends.
Gayle Delores Froehle will be remembered as having the most genuine heart who loved nothing more than being together with her family. She was an exceptional loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend, and neighbor. The care and love she gave to them is something they will cherish forever. Gayle’s grace and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The funeral service will be held at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home in Fremont, Michigan on Saturday, April 20th with a visitation from 3pm - 4pm and funeral to start at 4pm.

Obituary Preview: Joyce Janine Carlson, age 72 of Fremont, was called home by God April 9, 2024. She was born February 1, 1952 to Jack and Barbara (Paulson) Hosler in Muskegon. She was in the Civil Air Patrol and resigned as Cadet Lieutenant after graduating from Fruitport High School. She also graduated from Muskegon Community College. She had a love for Girl Scouts, which she became a Leader and Director for 10 years. On October 19, 1984, she married Richard A. Carlson, and he survives her along with her 2 daughters:  Nicole (Wyatt) Miel of Whitehall, Victoria Norman of Spring Lake; 5 grandchildren:  James Miel, Zach Norman, Nick Miel, Jayde Norman, and Connor Miel; 1 great-grandson, Silas Miel; 2 sisters:  her twin Jackie Gilmore of Spring Lake, and Kristi (Bill Holmes) Brown of Muskegon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law:  Bob Carlson of Muskegon, Jane (Bud) Dinquel of Florida; and by several nieces and nephews.  Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rita and Fred Michelsen along with their son Carl Michelsen.  Joyce was a member of DeColores #143.  Joyce had also been involved with the Emmaus Walk for 2 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Joyce was employed by Holton Public Schools for 9 years as a school bus driver. God called her to work for Him in 1985. She told God that He had the wrong person for the job.  There was no way she could do what He was asking her to do.  She finally told God she will give it a try and loved being a Disciple of God.  She was employed at Samuel Lutheran Church for 2 years and Fremont United Methodist Church for 6 years. She was commissioned on December 19, 1999, as a Parish Christian Educator. She was Director for many Vacation Bible Schools, Christmas Programs, Church Day Camps and taught Senior High Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW #4249 in Newaygo. She loved music (she played the harmonica, guitar, and accordion.) camping, tubing down the river, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She has traveled many places from Germany to Hawaii.  She loved traveling and experiencing new places and cultures.  Joyce loved to meet new people and spread her love everywhere she went.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Braxton attended Newaygo Five Cap. Braxton enjoyed riding his Quad with his dad, and showing off his jumping skills on his peddle bike. Braxton loved spending time with ALL his family.
Braxton is survived by his Mom & Dad, Domynic & Paige (Robart) Dykstra; his two sisters: Jesika & Cora; and his baby brother, Emmett Dykstra; grandparents: Darren & Shawn (St. John) Dykstra, Karl & Theresa (Smith) Robart; Lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Braxton’s Best Friend was his Dad, and he wanted to be just like him.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 2-5 P.M. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Newaygo High School.

Anyone wanting to join is welcome. The escort will head to Big Air Motorcross, where Braxton’s Quad will do a memorial lap, spreading some of his ashes. The Bitely Boys will then escort to the Celebration of Life at Newaygo High School.

Obituary Preview: Rodney James Fassett, age 95 of Hesperia, passed away peacefully at home late Sunday evening, March 31, 2024.  Rod was born December 23, 1928 in Rolette, North Dakota, to George James and Winnifred Alice (Anderson) Fassett.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.  Family came first in Rod’s life and his beloved hilltop homestead just south of Hesperia added to his pride and joy.  An Ironworker by trade, he retired in 1990 from Northshore Construction Company in Muskegon.  To date, he was a proud member of Iron Workers Local 340 for 70 years.  Rod loved scroll sawing in his basement workshop and he was an avid gardener.  On April 14, 1951, Rod married the love of his life, Grace E. Mansfield, and together they enjoyed nearly 73 years of marriage.  Grace survives him along with 4 daughters:  Kathy (Jim) Muckey, Debbie (Phil Van Lente) Fassett, Laurie (Ron) Gauche, Julie Roe; daughter-in-law, Sharon Fassett; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Pat) Fassett; and several nieces and nephews.  Rod was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Fassett; son-in-law, John Roe; and by his brother and sister-in-law, Shirley “George” and Irene Fassett.  According to Rod’s wishes there will be no visitation or service and a private memorial will take place at a later date.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Lucy M. (Kleyn) Folkema, age 94 of Allendale, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Green Acres Assisted Living in Allendale.  She was born Lucy M. Kleyn on April 29, 1929 in Muskegon, Michigan, the daughter of Teunes Peter and Klazina (Ekkel) Kleyn, Jr.  She married Henry Folkema in 1947.  She had worked for the Selective Service System as an Executive Secretary in Fremont, Lansing, and Grand Rapids.  She also had worked for the Soil Conservation Service and the Veterans Administration.  She later worked for the Department of Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as an Investigative Assistant, retiring on November 30, 1990 after being a federal employee for 29 years.  Mrs. Folkema was affiliated with the Coopersville Reformed Church.  She is survived by her sister, Fannie (William) Coonrod, Sr.  Mrs. Folkema was preceded in death by her brothers:  Anthony Kleyn, Elwin Kleyn, & John Kleyn; and by her sister Judy Tipton.   Also surviving are several nieces and nephews all of whom she loved so very much:  Susan and Phil, Pam and Kevin, John, Mary and John, Jack, and their families.  The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home with Pastor John Hines officiating.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Visitation will also be at the funeral home from 10-11 AM on Wednesday.  Suggested Memorial:  Multiple Sclerosis Society.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.

Obituary Preview: Carol Lynne Frens, age 80 of Fremont, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 20, 2024 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont.  She was born on October 17, 1943 in Fremont, Michigan to Bernard & Violet (Merriman) VanZanten.  Carol was a retired farmer, she had worked at the Co-Op for 8 years, she was a school bus driver for 13 years, and she worked at Walmart for 6 years.  She was a through and through farm girl and worked up to 80 years old.  She was a member of First Reformed Church in Fremont where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir, and she was a Girl Scout leader.  The highlights of her life were the cousin parties & many reunions, and having so many special high school friends from her graduating class.  On August 31, 1962 she married Donald K. Frens, and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1996.  She was also preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her children & grandchildren:  Paul (Katie) Frens & their children Kaiye, Jazlyn, Braelynn, Gannon, & Harlie; Keith (Samantha) Frens and their children Karter, Kayley, & Kash; Christopher Frens & his children Makayla & Patrisha; Marcella (Tom) Dever and their children Maisie (Justin) Dowty & their children Hazel & Liam, and Jackie.  She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Twigg; brother, Bernie VanZanten; sister-in-law, Corrine (Howard) Westcott; brother-in-law, Gary (Jan) Frens; nephews & nieces:  Jimmy (Ninajo), Jerry, Jeff (Sandi), Jody (Tim), Mark (Pam), Tracy, Micki (Shawn), Jodi (Doug).  According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at First Reformed Church in Fremont with Pastor Joel Zuidema officiating.  A luncheon will immediately follow the service at church.  The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the Newaygo County Compassion Home, and in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the Newaygo County Compassion Home.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.

Obituary Preview: Mrs. Helen Marie Echtinaw (Rey), age 84 of Grant, Michigan passed away into the arms of the Lord on March 20, 2024 at Fremont Fountain View Retirement Home.
She was born to Richard and Gladys (Long) Rey on March 26, 1939 in Beulah, Michigan.  She later married the “Love of her life”, Donald Echtinaw, on November 2nd, and they lived a long, happy life together.
Upon completion of High School at Muskegon Heights, and after getting married, Helen decided to be a homemaker and lovingly raised her family.
Helen loved to camp with family, and in her younger years enjoyed bingo, dancing, listening to bluegrass music, and reading books.  Helen’s smile lit up a room, and many family and friends were blessed by her smile, as she leaves behind friends at Fremont Fountain View Retirement Home and Community PACE, that are too numerous to mention.
Helen is survived by her son Rick (Carol) Echtinaw of Grant, MI., her daughter Wendy Echtinaw of Fremont, MI., and her daughter Donna Sanders of Grant, MI., and one sister, Ruthie Somero of Copemish, MI.  Her surviving grandchildren are Jay (Missy) Echtinaw of Fremont, MI., Kristi (Joe) Cook of Bitely, MI., Zach Ingersoll of Fremont, MI., Amanda (Bryan) Davis of Fruitport, MI., Brandon Sanders of Grant, MI., Shandel Farmer of Sibley, Illinois, Brandi (Tyler) Cross of Grant, MI, and Hailey Higgins of Grand Rapids, MI.  She is survived by great grandchildren Keairra, Addalyn, Kayleigh Jo, Brandon, Elijah, Elliott, Brooklyn, Austin, Averie, and Haven.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents Richard and Gladys Rey, two brothers Franklin Rey and Edward Rey, and one grandson Chad Echtinaw.
Per Helen’s wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will not be held.  A celebration of life will take place at a later date.  Helen will be sadly missed, but NEVER forgotten, and those wishing to remember her can consider donating to the Grant Area District Library, Grant, MI.
