Twila Kay Merta Wilt - Unknown - February 01, 2022

Departed: 02/01/2022 (Arcanum)
Obituary Preview: Twila Kay Merta Wilt (nee Julien), age 75, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at hospice of Miami County in Troy, following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Effie Mae Julien.
Twila was a talented interior decorator, beginning her career at Sherwin Williams in Vandalia, then moving to Classic Paint & Decorating in Dayton, where she eventually became a store manager along with being an interior decorator. She helped people make their homes and businesses into places of beauty.
Twila was also an accomplished artist, who began to paint and draw at an early age, then the Dayton Art Institute to study fashion design. After many years of being busy with work and family, creating only occasional works of art, she reignited her love of painting and further developed her artistic talents at the Rusty Harden Studio in Tipp City, painting pictures to capture sight beyond seeing. Her paintings brought joy to others, as gifts, as commissions, as frequent prize-winning exhibits in local art shows. Among other achievements, she won top prizes at shows sponsored by the Tipp City Area Arts Council and the Darke County Fair. She participated regularly in the annual Art of Recovery exhibit sponsored by the Tri County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services. She was a friend of Bill W. for 29 years.
In addition to her art, Twila took joy in more things than words could ever capture. She was a member of the National Parks Conservation Association, and she found transcendence in the majesty of the wild places of her country. She loved gardening, working with loving care alongside her husband Charlie to make their backyard by the woods into a little piece of Eden. She and Charlie spent many years boating together, cruising the waters of the state of Ohio, and sometimes other states, in good weather and bad, making many friends in the process. She loved to cook meals and appetizers and to bake, and bake, and bake. Her enormous spreads of Christmas cookies and treats were legendary. She loved her dogs, protecting them and keeping them safe and warm and smothered with affection for all the days of their lives. The dogs she loved included Chang, Mei-ling, Max, Gypsy, Lindy, Joey, and Gidget. She was a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. She cried when the Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs to win the AFC North on January 2, 2022. She loved horses and closely followed horse racing. One of her greatest joys came when American Pharoah won the Triple Crown in 2015.
Most of all, she enjoyed the company and connection of friends and family, of her husband and her children and her grandchildren. She cherished every moment with all of the people she loved. She will be grateful for them beyond forever. Her family and everyone who knew her will miss her always, until we meet her again.
Twila made love the central, animating force of her life. Through her art, her skill in helping others to heal the heart, and her involvement in the community, she built friendships that nurtured souls. She overcame adversity to grow as a human being, on a spiritual path that inspired countless others. Her strength and bravery brought wisdom and encouragement from the deep places of the spirit. By the grace of a power greater than all of us she loved friends and family with all of her heart, and all of her soul, and all of her might. She made a profound difference in the life of so many who knew her, which will alter the destiny of many, many others who never did.
There will never come an end to the good that she has done.
Twila is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles Wilt; her children Edward Merta, Susan (Ted) Spangler, and Joy (David) Ring; her stepchildren Kay Wilt and Connie Crosson; her grandchildren Graham, Laurel, Eleanor, and Hazel Spangler, Gabriel Sutton, Grayson Ring, and step-grandchildren Jason (Megan) Massingill, Kerri (Keith) Kerentsew, Bradley Crosson, Aaron (Sarah) Crosson, Casie (James) Fizer; her sisters Joyce and Betsy Julien and her brother Russell Julien.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, 204 N. Main St., Arcanum, Ohio, with burial to follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
Those wishing to make a donation in Twila’s memory may contact the Art and Recovery exhibit, who will use the proceeds to purchase art supplies for people in recovery. For information on how to donate, contact the Tri County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services, (937) 335-7727, (Brad Reed).
