Obituary Preview: Mrs. LaDonna Michelle Moton, age 58 of Sanford, NC, transitioned into eternal rest, Saturday, April 10, 2021, UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.
LaDonna Michelle Savoy Moton age 58 of Sanford (born and raised in Church Point, LA) gained her heavenly wings on April 10, 2021. After a courageous battle with cancer, LaDonna will reunite with mother Ella Mae Savoy, father Hayward Savoy Sr., brothers Hayward Savoy, Jr. and Sidney Savoy.
LaDonna was born in Church Point, LA on November 4, 1962, to Ella Mae “Jane” Savoy and Hayward Savoy Sr. LaDonna was a one-of-a-kind lady of deep faith and filled with lots of laughter along with her loving heart. Truly no one could compare to her. Throughout her years on earth, some may have called her an angel from heaven with her big smile and personality; she was a true friend, mom, wife, and a person of deep faith. Her faith and belief in Jesus Christ always remained the constant rock and forefront in her life, even through her sudden illness. LaDonna was a very giving lady, whether it be with volunteering at the church or kids’ events, and most importantly, her wisdom. LaDonna was a military wife to her husband Leslie Moton, giving him support while courageously defending our nation as LaDonna courageously held down our home front. LaDonna was well-loved and respected as she was a mentor for our church family and friends, the team mom for Cordell’s football team, and the cheerleaders' coach. Her favorite motto of “suck it up” was what she would tell Shaunie while having their many mom and daughter “talks”. When having debates with her oldest son BJ, LaDonna would always have the last say while they would talk about politics or the latest social media trends. LaDonna was an awesome mother to her bonus daughter Jordan and bonus son Quinten. She treated her husband's children as if they were her biological kids. She provided them with love, care, direction, and mentorship.
LaDonna attended Blandonia Presbyterian Church, Sanford, NC where she was involved with her church community while serving on the women’s committee and “Friends and Family” team. She thrived on connecting with individuals in the community creating environments for fellowship and fun, and most of all, finding a reason to praise and serve her Lord.
Left to cherish LaDonna’s memories is her husband of 15 years, Leslie A. Moton; three sons Joseph “BJ” Soileau of Sanford, NC, Cordell (Stacy) Soileau of Sanford, NC, Quinten Moton of Denver Colorado; two daughters Shaundra “ Shaunie” Soileau of New Orleans, LA and Jordan Moton of Charleston, SC; twin grandsons Samson and Soloman of Sanford, NC; sister Lisa (Edward) Charles of Bunkie, LA; nephews Isaiah and Daniel of Bunkie, LA; adopted brothers Ricky (Sabrina) Baldwin of Sanford, NC and Don Moye of Sanford, NC; LaDonna also leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of aunts, uncles, godchildren, family, and friends. Oarn Kye Dorsett - December 28, 1940 - April 09, 2021

Departed: 04/09/2021 (Sanford)
Obituary Preview: Mr. Oarn K. Dorsett, age 80 of Queens Village, New York, formerly of Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest, Friday, April 9, 2021, at Northshore Franklin Hospital, Valley Stream, New York.
Oarn, affectionately known as Big Dad, Brother, Uncle Brother, and Buck, was born to Aaron Amice and Pauline Lambert Dorsett, December 29, 1940. He left Sanford in his teens and relocated to New York. In 1959, Oarn met and married in the same year, the apple of his eye, beat of his heart, and love of his life, Hester Wells Dorsett, formerly of Rocky Mount, NC. August 2021, they would have celebrated 62 years of wedded bliss. Oarn worked faithfully and tirelessly as a short-order line cook at Cys Restaurant in New York, NY, for 20 years.
He proudly owned and operated A Service Automotive Repair Shop in Hempstead, New York, where he received high praise from loyal return customers.  His enthusiasm and passion for bowling spanned 30 years where he was a loyal, dedicated member of the Crown Jewels Bowling League. His strong love for his family compelled his desire to unite and bind the family closer. The urging in his heart pushed him as he founded and organized the Dorsett, Evans, Williams Family Reunion, in which he held the position of President. This July would be 32 years of the Family & Friends Reunion. In all 32 years, the reunion has only missed the 2020 year due to Covid-19. Oarn’s stately, silent smile brightened up any room with little shine of gold. He had an unquestionable belief in his God, his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and would always say “You gotta trust God” and “By the grace of God, I’m here”. He truly believed in the power of prayer and made sure prayer was a part of every family reunion and function. He loved to hear one of his mother’s favorite songs, “Don’t Forget the Family Prayer!”. The President of the Crown Jewels, Ron Prioleau, stated that Oarn would always say, “Without God, I don’t know where I would be. I thank the Man upstairs every day!”
Oarn immensely loved his parents and missed them dearly who predeceased his death as well as his beloved grandson, LaMarc Wells; sister, Barbara Jean Swann; brothers-in-law, Ermond Swann, James Cox, and Johnnie McLean; Niece, Jackie Wyche; and nephew, Aaron Mclean. Oarn leaves to cherish his love and memories, his devoted wife, Hester Wells Dorsett, his son, Milton Wayne Wells (Denise) and daughter, Sacheen Dorsett, all of New York; grandchildren; Marcus Wells of New York, NY, Tara Scott (Jarim)Scott, of Chicago, Illinois, Lenice Smith, and Sherod Harris; eight great grandchildren, sisters, Roenia Cox and Bettie Mclean; brother, William C. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including biographical information, details about their life, and information about funeral or memorial services. It serves as a way to share news of a loved one's passing with family, friends, and community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries are important because they provide a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also serving as a notification to those who may not have been aware of their passing. They can also help to facilitate communication and connection among mourners, and provide a sense of closure.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, an obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, although it may also be written by a funeral home or other organization. The writer should be someone who knew the person well and can provide accurate and meaningful information about their life.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services, charitable donations, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the individual's life. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to several paragraphs.

Can I include photos or other media in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include photos or other media in an obituary. This can help to make the tribute more personal and engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online publication?

The process for submitting an obituary varies depending on the publication. You can usually find guidelines on the publication's website or by contacting them directly. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment (if required).

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

How do I ensure that an online obituary remains accessible over time?

Many online publications archive obituaries indefinitely. However, it's essential to check their policies and consider creating a permanent online memorial or tribute page.
