Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd, Orion, 1301 4th St, Orion, IL, 61273.  Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm Friday, April 15, 2022, at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Sherrard Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family.
Bruce was born on April 30, 1950, in Milan, the son of Clyde and Mavis (Nichol) Erickson. Bruce married Linda R DeGreve on May 19, 1979. Bruce attended Sherrard High School. Bruce started working at the Sherrard Lumber Yard in 1964. As a laborer-operator he went to work for Murphy Brothers with Larry McMeekan, SMI, and then retired from Bob White Masonry in 2010. After retirement he helped harvest at Drake Farms. He was a volunteer fireman with the Sherrard Fire Department. He enjoyed playing Yahtzee, Tripoli, and putting puzzles together with his grandchildren. He enjoyed bottle rockets and fireworks. Bruce loved being outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He was a big NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching Dale Earnhardt and Cale Yarborough race. He loved candy, black licorice and smarties being his favorites. He often ate white cake for breakfast.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Brandon (Kena) Breiby, Blake (Crystal) Breiby, Bryce (Cary) Breiby; grandchildren, Hunter, Brylee, Cooper, Madalyn, and Raygen, Keera, Kellen Breiby; sisters, Linda Breiby, Beth (Dan) Parker, Denise (Clay) Sewell; brothers, Brian (Sue) Breiby, Eric (Lisa) Erickson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Julian and Leota DeGreve; and infant daughter Sara Elizabeth Breiby.

A funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion, 1301 4th Street, Orion.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.  Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family.
Denise was born on September 30, 1963, in Moline, the daughter of Lyle E. and Carol F. Litton Grundstrom.  She married David Muse on December 2, 2000 at the Orion United Methodist Church.
Denise worked in the medical field for over 30 years and was currently a Medical Office Assistant with Genesis Pediatrics in Silvis.  She was an Orion High School graduate, class of 1981 where she played softball and threw shotput.  She and Dave enjoyed camping and motorcycle riding.  Denise was an excellent dart player ranking in the top 10 in Illinois and 9th in the world tourney.  She also loved giving “gunny bear hugs”, but was the most proud of saving Dave’s life during a cardiac event in 2019.
Survivors include her husband, Dave; son, Todd; nephews, Kyle and Jake; niece, Gayle; many aunts, cousins and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and her brother, Carlyle.
In honor of Denise the family encourages those attending services to wear their favorite tie dye clothing.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial mass will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 313 S West St, Cambridge, IL 61238.  Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.  Inurnment will be at Western Township Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 N Main St, Chamberlain, SD 57325 (https://www.stjo.org/ ) or a charity of your choice in Marjorie’s name.
Marjorie was born on November 19, 1935, at home in rural Muscatine County, IA, the daughter of Edward J. and Mamie M.C. (Plett) Westerhof. She married Lloyd P. Schillinger on October 16, 1954, in Davenport, IA. She worked part time at the Osco and Colona post offices. Marjorie was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge, IL. She was very devout in her faith. Marjorie loved spending time with family, traveling, square dancing, going to and hosting garage sales, and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd; children, Ernie (Sara) Schillinger, Johnston, IA, Barry (Lydia) Schillinger, Chatham, IL, Carla (special friend, John Bogart) Schillinger, Osco, IL; grandchildren, Matthew Schillinger, Ryan Papke, Andrew Papke, Hayden Schillinger, and Halley Schillinger; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry Lee Spengler - December 31, 1942 - February 11, 2022

A funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Swedona Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be from 10 until service time at the church.  Burial will be at the German Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
Larry was born on December 31, 1942, in Moline the son of Virgil and Lorraine Jinks Spengler.  He married Cheryl Allison on August 29, 1969, at the Ophiem Grace Lutheran Church.
Larry was a United States Army Veteran serving in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart.  He started his career with the Farmers State Bank of Sherrard, he then went on to work with the United States Army Corps of Engineers retiring in 2007.  Currently Larry was actively farming.  He was a member of the Swedona Lutheran Church and the Mercer County Farm Bureau.
Larry is survived by his wife and children, Dana and Denny Johnston of Viola; Darren and Debra Spengler of Sherrard and Brannon and Hilary Spengler of Sherrard.  Grandchildren, Max, Alex, Augie, Jordy and Archie.  Siblings, John “Jack” Spengler, Tom and Janet Spengler and Jan and Gary Dochterman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kenny was born on May 24, 1957, in Moline, the son of Ralph and Bertha LaVerne Clifton. He married Cheryl A. DeBaillie on June 18, 1988, in Bettendorf. He worked as a machinist, helping develop new combines, at the John Deere Product Development Center, Department 808, in Silvis, where he was awarded several patents. This work took him all over the world and he retired in October of 2021, after 44 years. He also worked on the family farm. Kenny was a member of the NRA and enjoyed NASCAR and restoring old cars and machinery.
Survivors include his wife; children, Sara (Nic) Romaine of Davenport, Tami (Nate Hatfield) Clifton of Davenport; Tom (Kelly O’Connor) Clifton of Coal Valley; twin sister, Kathy Ferguson of Queen Creek, AZ; and sister, Randi (K.C.) Johnson of Moline.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Evelyn was born on November 24, 1927, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Marie (Willhouse) Frank. After graduation, Evelyn worked as a telephone operator and for the Rock Island Arsenal. She married Donald F. Washburn on November 17, 1946, in Orion. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1994. Evelyn later worked for the former Orion Café. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Orion. She enjoyed playing cards, golfing and camping.  She also bowled for many years. Evelyn enjoyed spending the winters in Florida.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Campbell, Coal Valley; son, James (Linda) Washburn, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Kelly Campbell, Orion, Bryan (Kimberly) Campbell, Coal Valley, Timothy (Kari) Washburn, Coal Valley, Toby Washburn, Long Grove, Iowa, Jaime (Ryan) Dyer, Bettendorf, and A.J. Washburn, Orion; and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Doris Larson.

Richard Rath - July 25, 1953 - January 29, 2022

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday February 5, 2022, a Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be at the Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire, IA.  Memorials can be made to the Sherrard Fire Department.
Rich was born July 25, 1953, in Rock Island, IL son of   William Thomas and Georgia Ann Kelty Rath.  He graduated from Winola High School class of 1971.  Rich married Cynthia K. Harader and they had a daughter Stacey, and a son Lee that passed at birth.  He later married Paula Scheiss on July 22, 1991, in the City Park of Deadwood, South Dakota.
Rich Joined the Sherrard Volunteer Fire Department in July of 1982 and became an EMT.  Rich retired as assistant Chief from the Sherrard Fire Department in May of 2017 after 35 years of service.  In 1998 he became a Paramedic.  He then worked for Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service.  Richard graduated from Carl Sandburg College of Nursing in May of 1998 and went on to work for Community Medical Center in Monmouth then Unity Point Health Trinity and retired from there as a Patient Care Supervisor in December of 2020.
Rich also loved to travel; he and Paula would take long vacations traveling to all parts of the United States to visit the National Parks.  His favorite trip was two weeks in Alaska and the second was to Hawaii.
Rich leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Paula, daughter, Stacey Rath and Gary Bates Jr. of Galva, Illinois.  Stepsons, Aaron Frels of West Burlington, Iowa and Jason and Calynn Schiess of Matherville, Illinois.  Brothers, Bill and Sherill Rath of Viola, Illinois and Mike and Sandy Rath of Galesburg, Illinois.  Six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Lee, a brother, Tim Rath, a sister Kim Dilts and a stepson Edwin Frels.

Norma was born on December 27, 1933, in Green River, Illinois, the daughter of Gerald and Mary (Brinker) Thurmon. She married George Green on July 21, 1951, in Aledo. She later married Quentin Stromquist on August 11, 1974, in Orion. He preceded her in death on December 1, 2007. Norma worked as a janitor for Ophiem Lutheran Church. She then worked with her husband Quentin at Quent’s Country Inn. Later her and Quentin worked at Bank Orion as janitors.  She was a member of the Orion United Methodist Church and former member of the Ophiem Auxiliary Legion for over 30 years. Norma had an artistic passion for painting, sewing, building miniature dollhouses, and making doll clothes.
Survivors include her children, Anna (Barry) Willett, Orion, Barb Norton, Moline, Judy Sawyers, Rock Island, Ken (Nicki) Green, Woodhull; 9 grandchildren, Merideth (Brad Huels) Willett, Derek Willett, Donald Willett, Kelli (Jeff) Parsons, Andy Norton, Cari (Rik) Conant, Nathan Green, Morgan (Mike Raya) Green, Chris Thackrey; 1 stepdaughter, Debbie (Larry) Carlson, Fort Meyers, FL; step grandchildren, Shawn (Darla) Stromquist, Tony (Emily) Stromquist, Lea (Matt) Vos, Sara (Darin) Taft, Chelsey (Justin) Nagl; 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, and 10 step great grandchildren.

Karen began her career at the Sherrard High School as an attendance secretary; she moved to Sherrard Junior High and then moved onto Sherrard Grade School where she retired in May 2002. Karen was a very active and supportive former member of the Sherrard Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the UPW organization. She was a current member of Preemption Methodist Church. Karen was a member of the Sherrard Lion’s Club, Red Hat Ladies of Sherrard, and the Sherrard Women’s Fireman Auxiliary. Karen was one of the original organizers of the Pumpkin Fest in Sherrard. She always loved being on the go shopping, and planning family get-togethers.

Dick was born February 5, 1928, in Orion, the son of Charles and Frances (Peterson) Dahl. He served in the United States Army. Dick married Marilyn Abrahamson October 1, 1954, at St Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Dick was a lifetime farmer, with a passion for photography and spent time as a professional wedding photographer. He was a lifetime member of St Paul Lutheran where he was a board member, usher, and Sunday school teacher. Dick was a member of the VFW and the Orion American Legion. He served on the Henry County Selective Service Draft Board. He was a member of several camera clubs. Dick was the first elected president of Henry County Pork Producers. He was a member of Johnson Round Barn Association and Henry County Farmer Bureau. Dick was a member of a couples Card Club for over 60 years. He loved volunteering at Henry County Historical Society, Bishop Hill, IL. Dick enjoyed swimming, camping, and motorcycled until he was 85.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Jeffrey (Debbie) Dahl, Orion, Jay (Donna) Dahl, Orion; grandchildren, Andy (Jill) Dahl, Kayla (Bryce) Halferty, Morgan (Fiancé, Austin Hutcherson) Dahl; great-grandchildren, Bennett, Bryce & Brianna Dahl, and Brysen Halferty; brother, James Dahl; many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was born on October 20, 1936, in Rock Island, the daughter of George and Irene (Auld) Strayer. Nancy graduated Rock Island High School in 1954. She married Willard Owens on November 19, 1955, at St Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1999.  She was previously employed at Jewel Foods.  Nancy was a devoted member of Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and was active with the Altar and Rosary Society.  She received The Pére Marquette Award for her outstanding contributions to the church from the Diocese of Peoria.
Survivors include her children, Theresa (Chris) Lemon, Coal Valley, Tracy (Steve) Weinberger, Bettendorf, Todd (Pam) Owens, Plainfield, IL, Jack (Diane) Owens, Orion; grandchildren, Anna Weinberger, Molly Weinberger, Tessa Weinberger, Andrew Owens, Luke (Shannon) Owens, Emily (Caleb) Williams, Lola Owens, Ashley (Tyler) Horberg, Alyssa Owens, and Will Owens; great grandchildren, Carter Williams and Clara Owens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Gregory Owens, grandchildren, Grace and Adam; siblings, Joanne Mielkey, George Strayer, Jr., and Jack Strayer.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Nancy’s family was everything to her and she will be missed by all.

Dale Snell on July 11, 1959, in Morris, Illinois.  She graduated form Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1959.  She worked for over 40 years as a Registered Nurse with Moline Public Hospital.  Norma used her nursing skills volunteering on medical missions to Haiti for over 10 years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, crocheting, reading, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Tracey was born on May 2, 1963, in Moline, the daughter of Arthur and Patricia (Lingafelter) Wright.  She graduated from United Township High School in 1981. She met her husband, Dave Rutledge, at the age of 15. They later got married on July 31, 1982, in East Moline.
Growing up Tracey was well known for her role as being an Assistant Gymnastics Teacher. Tracey also enjoyed working as a hostess at the local restaurant, WooDog’s, where she adored her customers, and they loved her sassiness.  Tracey loved spending time with her family, baking and being outside in the sun. Donald was born December 2, 1939, in Moline, IL, the son of Julius C. and Estella M. DeVrieze Gelaude.  He married Diane Larson, the love of his life, on January 28, 1961, in Milan, IL.   Don was a member of Mary Our Lady of Peace Church, Orion. Don was a strong, quiet, and caring man. He loved his church and his family. Don was so proud of all his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them. Don loved the land. He was a Moews seed corn dealer for over 40 years. Don enjoyed attending farm shows, toy shows and county fairs. He was an avid John Deere collector both of big toys and small toys. Don loved his John Deere tractors! He spent many hours restoring, buying, and selling. When you drove into the driveway of the Gelaude Farm, you knew you were in John Deere Country. He was a member of the Two Cylinder Club. Back in the 60’s and 70’s, Don spent many years with other farmers fighting for Collective Bargaining with the National Farmers Organization before all the big corporations took over. Don loved country music. He was not a traveler but did like traveling to Nashville and listening to the Grand Ole Opry. Donald always had a Blue Heeler dog at his side. Jack was his faithful companion in recent years.

Riggs on January 29, 1951, in Hernando, MS.  She worked as a bank teller for Bank Orion for 34 years.  She was a member of Orion United Methodist Church.  Frances belonged to the Viking Club of Moline.  She enjoyed bowling, golf, cooking and traveling.  She was a part of a bowling league on Wednesday nights and Sunday’s mixed couples league.  On Saturdays she had the 500 Card Club.  She and John wintered in Palm Rasaca Mobile Home Park in Brownsville, TX.
Survivors include her husband, John; children, Terry L. Riggs, Palm Coast, FL, and Keith (Theresa) Riggs, Magnolia, TX; grandson, Matthew Riggs, Overland Park City, KS; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Howard Swanson; and sisters, Elaine Walline and Geraldine Clausen; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Cole.

(Himmelburger) Stoudt.  He married Leona Mae Swanson on January 8, 1952, in Orion.  Toby was a U.S. Army and Merchant Marines veteran serving in WWII and the Korean War.  He was a member of the Orion American Legion Post 255, a founding and life member of the Orion V.F.W. Post 143 where he previously served as the Post Advocate from 1973-1975 and former Post Junior Vice Commander.  Toby also served on the honor guard with both the American Legion and V.F.W.  He was a former volunteer with the Orion Fire Department.  Toby was the owner and operator of Swanson Hardware Store in Orion and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and swapping lies with friends.

Paul was born on February 6, 1932, in Moline, the son of Luther and Esther (Ekstrom) Anderson.  Paul was raised on the family farm near Orion, IL.  He farmed with his father until his marriage where Paul initiated custom baling in the Orion, IL vicinity.  Paul attended Orion High School graduating in 1950.  He enjoyed Industrial Arts excelling in woodworking.
He married Lillie M. Vinstrand on March 23, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  Following their marriage, Paul farmed briefly in Cresco, IA.  They returned to Orion residing in his parent’s apartment building until they purchased their permanent home in Osco, IL.
Paul joined the Vinstrand garage in Osco as a mechanic.  Paul was a volunteer firefighter in Osco for many years.  Paul and Lillie operated a Shell gas station in Orion in the late 1960s.  From 1970 forward, they owned and operated Anderson Repair in Orion, for 51 years.  Paul was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.   He enjoyed playing 42, attending flea markets, square dancing, and tractor painting.
Paul and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling all 50 states.  He loved visiting family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Bruce Anderson, Vicki (Sam) Howard, Deb (Steve) Hyleck; and sister, Lorena (Melvin) Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife, Lillie.

Carol worked in bookkeeping and item processing at local banks in her earlier years.  She was employed in various places in San Diego, California, and the St. Louis area.  Lastly being employed for Dierbergs in the St. Louis area. Where she worked as an accounts payable specialist retiring in November 2020. Carol received numerous awards for outstanding performance from various employers.  It was shown through her nominations by her peers and management that she was a dedicated employee who always went above and beyond.  She was known for her very kind and caring personality.
Survivors include her husband; sisters, Jeanine (Gerald) Lees, Beth (Don) Easterla; brother, Daniel (Sue) Hultgren; nieces, Nicole Bruckman, Samantha Heath; nephews, Jeremy Lees, Mason Hultgren, Jon Easterla, Rob Thomas, Matt Thomas; aunt, Alice (Chester) Esters; several great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
