Johanna W. Robbins - September 22, 1927 - January 27, 2024

Departed: 01/27/2024 (Northfield)
Obituary Preview: Johanna Weiss Robbins of Moretown, Vermont died on January 27, 2024, at age 96.
Johanna Weiss was born on September 22, 1927 in Culver City CA, part of the greater Los Angeles urban area. Her parents Fred and Gizella Weiss were both Hungarian immigrants. Johanna grew up in a boisterous lively household with seven siblings; she was the last surviving member.
After High School, Johanna continued her education at nearby University of California Los Angeles. While at UCLA, she met Gerald (Jerry) Robbins on a blind date. Jerry was a WWII Navy veteran and was attending nearby USC at the time. Johanna and Jerry married in Culver City and took an adventurous cross-country drive for their honeymoon. They attended graduate school together, both earning their Masters of Social Work degrees at Boston University. After several years in Boston, they moved to nearby Framingham MA, bought a home, and raised their family.
Johanna worked as a Social Worker in several capacities, including leading the Substance Abuse Program at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester MA. Through her work, Johanna discovered that stress was an underlying and complicating factor in virtually all of her patients’ problems. On her own, she searched through the available stress-reduction strategies, eventually determining that Transcendental Meditation (TM) was the most proven stress-reduction technique available. Johanna then became a TM teacher and, through her instruction and guidance, went on to assist many people in the Boston region and beyond.
It is worth noting that Johanna became a vegetarian in 1970 and incorporated both diet and meditation as important parts of her way of life. Additionally, during this period in Framingham, Johanna & Jerry created a small semi-wild nature preserve in their suburban yard, populated with local plants and frequented by a wide range of native birds, insects, and small mammals.
After her husband Jerry’s death in 2005, Johanna moved to Moretown VT next door to her son, Steve and his family. Though originally from southern California, Johanna loved New England and especially Vermont. While in Vermont, Johanna further pursued three of her passions – gardening, walking and painting. Johanna’s paintings were generally pastel-colored outdoor scenes – pleasing, restful, and sometimes fanciful. She loved watching wildlife and the ever-changing Vermont seasons from her porch. Well into her 80’s she walked up and down South Hill Road, then only up and down our very steep driveway, then just around the house. Even when using a walker for assistance, mom kept moving. Johanna is survived by her three sons Jeffrey (Trapper), Andrew, and Steven; her daughters-in-law Roxanne Everett, Maria Edwina L Robbins, and Regina Trailweaver, her four grandchildren Tejas, Kayla, Zachary, and Joseph and Tejas’ mother, Nammu Reddy
.
Johanna was a smart driven woman; she possessed an inherently ethical nature and embodied deep spiritual commitment. She was capable of profound insights and always possessed a strong sense of will in the face of challenges. Johanna felt a keen responsibility to improve the world and we are all better for her efforts.

Charles Harry Slocum, husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and dear friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 26, 2023. “Chuck” was born on November 14, 1945, in Windsor, Vermont to Wesley and Shirley Slocum. Obituary Preview: On Saturday, August 5, 2023, Marion Martin Drew of Montpelier, VT passed away peacefully at the age of 85. After speaking to each of her children over the course of the day, she let go of life with comfort and peace.
Marion entered this world on July 21, 1938, in Barre, VT and was the eighth of ten children born to Annie (Glennie) and Harrison Martin of Williamstown. Known as Googie by her siblings and childhood friends, Marion was an energetic and spirited person. 1956 was an especially busy year for her as she graduated from Williamstown High school, married L. Leonard Drew of Bradford, VT and turned 18.
Marion was a proud Vermonter who lived most of her life in the Green Mountain State. Her early married years were spent in Williamstown, Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury. She and her family then moved to Montpelier in 1968 where, except for short stints in Northfield and Isle au Haut, Maine, she lived the rest of her life. Her time on a small island enabled her to demonstrate, and even grow, the fierce independence with which she lived. Her final years were spent in her beloved apartment on Barre Street, where she enjoyed being part of the diverse character of this area of Montpelier.
Marion and Leonard were married for 44 years until Len’s passing in 2001. She was the proud mother of eight children: Brian, Shawn, Kevin, Dennis, Kathleen, Colleen, Thomas and Timothy. She was also a grandmother to 13 and great grandmother to 5. She loved them all with passion and was always their greatest supporter.
Raising her family was Marion’s first and foremost responsibility. She was a visible spectator at her children’s many school and sporting events and was well known for speaking her mind to the referees when a call did not go in their favor. Marion loved crafts and was a quilter, knitter and cross stitcher. She also enjoyed displaying, and sharing with her family and friends, various collectibles. Marion believed in contributing to her community and spent many years volunteering for the Montpelier Community Justice Center as a guardian-ad-litem for children in the family court system. In her later years she was a huge fan of Tom Brady and would fiercely defend him in person or on-line.
In her final days, with her health declining, Marion stayed true to her persona of positivity and strength. She lived a wonderful life, and she handled death with courage and dignity. While Marion is no longer with us physically, her spirit will stay with us forever.

Charles R. Polizzotti - July 05, 1958 - July 22, 2023

Departed: 07/22/2023 (Northfield)
Obituary Preview: Charles ‘Charlie’ R. Polizzotti, 65, passed away after a courageous battle of lung cancer on July 22, 2023 at the Central Vermont Medical Center, Berlin, VT.
Charlie was born on July 5th, 1958 in Methuen, MA to the late Charles J. Polizzotti and Alice (Lawrence). Charlie was a 1976 graduate of North Andover High School. Charlie was smart, he spent his life as a continuous learner, he would surprise you by knowing many facts about whatever topic you were discussing. Charlie spent many years in the Merrimack Valley before deciding to move to Vermont near 20 years ago. There he found great peace and joy in the natural surroundings of the Green Mountains where he made many close friends over the years.
Charlie had a great passion for music, especially Rock and Roll. He played several instruments, but especially loved the guitar. He spent countless hours writing, studying, playing & fixing his instruments. He also had a great love for animals, and most recently adored his cat ‘Bear’ that he took in after his friend, the cat’s owner passed away. Though allotted more than his fair share of struggle, Charlie consistently played his hand with grace. While most who met him commented on his aquamarine eyes, Charlie’s command of any room seemed equally rooted in good looks, magnetic personality, and pure goodness. While Charlie’s sharp intellect, passion for music, and love of animals were notable, it was his compassion, his kindness, and his generosity that was impossible to miss, and set him apart. He put everyone before himself. He could often be found helping those who had less, even though he had little to spare. For years Charlie would help those in need obtain food through volunteer programs whether at the food bank or other food-prep programs. He lived a life grateful for what he had and the happiness he found in giving, and in service of others. Charlie lives on through all that he inspired to do better.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles and brother, Frank. He is survived by his three children who he thought of always and loved deeply. Charlie is also survived by his mother, Alice, siblings: Carla Burns and husband Robert of Andover MA, Michael Polizzotti and wife Antoinette of Ocala FL, and Allyson Condon and husband Christopher of Fountain Hills AZ, as well as several nieces and nephews. If you would like to make a donation in Charlie’s memory, please make check payable to Montpelier Food Pantry and mail to: Montpelier Food Pantry c/o Trinity Church, 137 Main St, Montpelier, VT 05602
Please come and visit to honor Charlie between 1-2 pm with service at 2 pm on August 25, 2023, at The Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Avenue, Northfield Vermont.
