Departed: 04/04/2024 (Allison Park)
Obituary Preview: Kathy Lee “Katie” Reeder, age 76, of Indiana Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
A good friend; a devoted daughter; a lover and caretaker of many dogs and horses; an avid reader; a gifted teacher; a caring and valued neighbor and volunteer. These are just a few of the many attributes Katie Reeder brought to our lives. Born in Trafford on May 1, 1947 to John and Robirda Reeder, Katie was an only child who grew up in the outdoors and at various churches where her Uncle preached. She was a Brownie, a Girl Scout who earned a sash filled with badges, and a camper.
Always reading and always fond of animals, she began western riding lessons at a barn in Murrysville as a teenager paying $3.50 an hour from her allowance. Thus began her career as a “barn rat”.
After graduation from college, she worked for Westinghouse R&D until receiving her teaching degree from Point Park College. Then she began her nearly 20 year career as a teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools at Manchester then Frick Elementary until her retirement.
Katie’s volunteer career included Riding for the Handicapped at SF Ford Stables and then at North Park Stables. She spent 20 summers with the Blackfoot Tribe in Montana. There she drove the Bookmobile. Throughout the year she collected and mailed donations of books and winter clothing to the Reservation.
For about twenty years until her death, Katie ran a pet sitting business (dogs, cats and horses and farms.) She will be missed by many of those animals and will have reconnected with those who have gone over the Rainbow Bridge - first and foremost her Golden Retriever, Toby.
We will miss her friendship, the twinkle in her eyes, her ready smile and her willingness to help. We will carry her in our hearts forever.
A service in her memory will be held on Saturday April 20 at 2:00 PM at King Funeral Home, 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park, PA 15101.

Lillian Fay Welsh - January 07, 1926 - March 13, 2024

Departed: 03/13/2024 (Allison Park)
Obituary Preview: Lillian Fay (Miller) Welsh was born January 7, 1926 in Homewood, PA to Raymond and Blossom Audelle (Knipple) Miller. Her three brothers predeceased her: Raymond, Harry, and Jim. Her stepfather, Charles Kratz, was a loving farmer who opened his home to Faye (as she preferred to be called) and her brothers when he married their mom. Faye attended Hampton High School. She tap-danced, skated, and could tie a cherry stem into a knot-just using her tongue. Faye became a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. A smooth operator, she met her soulmate, Regis C Welsh Sr, when she intercepted his calls. Soon enough, they were married. A working woman, she prided herself on saying that she bought his shoes for the wedding. Rege went on to make a truly wonderful life for them; Faye never worked a day after marriage.
Together Rege and Faye raised 7 children: Connie, David (Bonnie), Janet (Art), Regis Jr (Janice) and Jill. Their children Faye and Kevin (Dana) have already headed off to paradise. Mom’s wish was to have each of her kids have three children of their own. Through a cooperative effort, those orders were filled and exceeded. Her 7 children blessed Faye and Rege with 25 grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Raye Lynn, Jim, Todd, Michael, Lynda, Marci, Heather, Megan, Brian, Jennifer, Barry, Trinity, Ben, Chucky, Nicklas, Anthony, Wendy, Regis III, Stephanie, Joze, Rebecca, Colleen, Rachael, Evan V, and Justis! There are now 36 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren! All of this from one feisty woman who married one very patient man.
The homes they built were always full of people and food, especially the aroma of Faye’s homemade bread and pies. Her Good Friday Hot Cross buns are legendary, as was her closely guarded recipe for potato salad. Faye fed everyone who came in the door, including dad’s surprise lunch guests who were brought upstairs from his Justice of the Peace office. Faye cut everyone’s hair, whether it was wanted or not. She was known to say “wash your face and comb your hair” as she kept a tidy home. Unlike most people, she loved to iron and spent ironing day in front of an open window with music playing as she pressed everything, including undergarments. A devout Catholic, Faye attended St. Catherine Church for decades.
With a houseful, someone was always getting stitches or breaking something, mom was very anxious about that, so it was the house rule to tell dad first. Finally at age 58, Faye and Rege took off on a seven-year retirement/vacation. They traveled in their motor home, following Bluegrass music festivals, spending winter months at Spirit of the Suwannee in Florida. Faye was happiest when taking a nice long ride with Rege.
Faye leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Alice Hale and Carrie Welsh, brother-in-law Al Hale, over a hundred nieces and nephews and many folks who knew her from her lifelong habit of sending greeting cards to everyone. She called it her “correspondence”.
Faye is off on an adventure for eternity now with Rege in Paradise. This world will feel her absence but also be filled with the legacy of the family that continues to grow.
Friends will be received Friday, March 15, 2024 from 4 – 8 p.m. at King Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2841 Woodland Circle in Allison Park.
