Diane L. Kirschstein - July 04, 1931 - February 15, 2024

Departed: 02/15/2024 (Mount Kisco)
Obituary Preview: Obituary for Diane L. Kirschstein
Diane Lois Archer Kirschstein was born in New York City on July 4, 1931. She was the daughter of Dr. Benjamin Archer, a cardiologist, and Mabelle Morse Archer, a nurse. She was the younger of two daughters, her sister Barbara Archer Weidenfeld having predeceased her by several years.
Diane attended the University of Wisconsin for two years, then transferred to NYU, where she earned a double major: one in English and the other in Radio and Television. She had various jobs in the entertainment industry, including a stint with Burt Lancaster Productions and another with The Hot Seat, a 30-minute television show featuring interviews with famous public figures. She also worked for the Liberal Party.
In 1956, she married the love of her life, David B. Kirschstein, a patent attorney, who died in 2016. They lived in Chappaqua, New York, for the majority of their 60-year marriage, which produced three daughters: Bette (Jonathan), Laura (Marc), and Bonnie (Edgar), all of whom were by her side through her long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Diane was a homemaker whose happiest hours were spent with her family, as a wife, mother, and grandmother, though she also enjoyed travel and spent several years as a travel agent for Taylor Travel in Chappaqua. She was an avid golfer, played a mean game of tennis, and enjoyed skiing and sailing with her co-captain and mate, David. She loved Nantucket Island in Massachusetts, where the family had a second home for many years.
In addition to her daughters, Diane leaves 6 beloved grandchildren: Alexandra Fink, Elizabeth Gellman, Sarah Gellman, Samantha Fink, Charlotte Fink, and Ethan Aramboles. She will be sorely missed by her family, and by all those whose lives she touched through the years.

Anne Pruzan - August 29, 1928 - January 20, 2024

Departed: 01/20/2024 (Mount Kisco)
Obituary Preview: Anne  Pruzan (née Mandel) (August 29, 1928 – January 20,2024) In loving memory
It is with great sadness that I write to share that our mother passed away, January 20 th , 2024. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur Pruzan (who passed away in May 1990), Anne was the loving and devoted mother to her children, , Mark, Rochelle, and Elliot and their spouses, Joanne Bronschidle and Wayne Darer, and Holly McClean respectively; the loving grandmother and bubby to, Joshua Thal-Pruzan and Gabriel Thal-Pruzan and their spouses Jennifer Aho-Glele and Jesse Horowitz, respectively; and to Mark and Joanne’s children Katherine Pruzan and Jeffrey Pruzan; and to Rochelle and Wayne’s children, Amanda Darer and Jennifer Darer. She was also a loving and devoted great grandmother (Big Bubby!) to her great
grandchildren Neta, Benjamin, Remy, and Jacob. Growing up in the Bronx, Anne’s father was a refugee from Ukraine and a kosher butcher and whose mother was a refugee from Romania. Anne attended Monroe High and then graduated from Christopher Columbus High School just as World War II concluded.  She married Arthur in
January 1948 and quickly started a family, with three children by 1954. Growing up on Allerton Avenue in the Bronx, some may remember Anne as an active participant in the P.S. 96 PTA and the blower of the sternest whistle as she managed the grade
schoolers during auditorium lunch hour in the late 50’s and early 60’s as a teacher’s aide. Others may remember her as a highly professional group social worker in the Eastchester Housing Projects in the Bronx.  As her career progressed and she finally obtained her B.A. in English from Empire State College, she developed a highly successful reading group for senior’s, concentrating on the reading of short stories she would assign weekly.  She meticulously prepared and conducted these reading groups for several decades, eventually extending them as well to the UFT headquarters and the Riverdale YMHA, both also in the Bronx. She was a smart, insightful, sensitive reader, patient and skillful in her group work, and for which she
always received extensive praise.
But what is most important of all is that Anne was a caring and loving person to all she knew.

Departed: 12/09/2023 (Mount Kisco)
Obituary Preview: Natalie Ruth Zucker Hertz. .9/23/34–12/9/23. Natalie passed away peacefully on December 9th - marking the end of a long and full life well-lived. Natalie was born in Cleveland, OH to Milton Zucker and Sylvia Wohlvert Zucker. She was raised in New Rochelle, NY, the second oldest of four girls, along with her sisters Judith, Susan, and Deborah. Natalie was a natural and gifted student, excelling academically and happily busy with friends
and activities at New Rochelle High School. Natalie attended Cornell University where she enjoyed the stimulation of academic life and her work on the Cornell Daily Sun. Soon, she met another
Cornellian who became her bridge playing and life-sharing partner, Daniel Hertz. Dan was accepted to Albany Medical School and Natalie soon followed, finishing
her degree at NY State Teachers College/SUNY Albany. They married in 1955. Natalie taught English until the happy birth of their first son, David, then son Doug, and later son Steve. Natalie and Dan raised their boys in Harrison, NY, where they lived for 60 years. When her children grew more self-sufficient, an ever-curious Natalie returned to graduate school in 1972, receiving her law degree from NYU cum laude, awarded the Order of the Coif, the John Norton Pomeroy and American Jurisprudence Prizes. Natalie was a fierce advocate for
women’s rights and equality. Playing tournament bridge became a passion and Natalie’s efforts were met with great success, winning over 100 Regional tournaments and achieving an ACBL ranking of Platinum Life Master. Natalie and Dan represented the US in the mixed pairs and mixed teams 7 times in world championships. Natalie simply loved to solve the challenges presented by a difficult hand and, more than that,
bridge lead them as a couple to important and lasting friendships. Family life was full of action and joy. Summers were spent in Connecticut on Candlewood Lake and Squantz Pond. Days and nights filled with water skiing, sailing, canoeing, swimming, board games, discussions and laughter. Soon
grandsons and great-grandsons were added to the joy. Jigsaw puzzles.
Crossword and word puzzles. Nature walks. Bird watching. Gardening. Natalie may have been her happiest adventuring around the world with those she loved. Multiple trips to Africa - first with Dan and their sons to Togo, later with their grandsons for safaris. She took great joy in trips all around the world: down the Amazon, China, Thailand, Mexico, Italy, Scandinavia, France, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, white-water rafting on the Biobio River in Chile, the Galapagos, Costa Rica, the Caribbean, the Canary Islands and more. A visit in 1974 to the USSR behind the Iron Curtain. She was fearless, deeply curious and
embracing of all peoples and all cultures. The family jokes that there are no girls born to the progeny of Natalie - but some really great ones have married in! In addition to her husband Daniel, she leaves behind her three sons, David ( Mary Ellen Warden) Douglas ( Nancy Abramson ) and Steven ( Marcie Hertz); seven grandsons, Tim, Sam,Gregory,
Alex, Eric, Jesse and Jamie; and three great-grandsons, Jack, Robin and Quinn.

Judith S. Warner - December 29, 1931 - December 26, 2021

Departed: 12/26/2021 (Mount Kisco)
Obituary Preview: Judith, "Judy" Silberberg Warner, 89 years old, Stormville, NY, departed this life on December 26th, 2021. She died of natural causes. She was born on December 29th, 1931, to Eva (Weintraub) and Jacob Silberberg, she was the youngest of three siblings. Pre-deceased by Joe (d. Dec. 28, 2017) and his wife Ann (2005), Judy is survived by her brother Irving, pre-deceased by his wife Dolores (2012). She had a large and loving family and is survived by her son, Matthew L. Warner, daughter-in-law Marie, her grandson Jake and spouse Lyndsey, grandson Holden and fianc Julia, grandson Simon, granddaughters Alivia and Kalliope. Her extended family include nephews Marc and spouse Barbara, Richard and spouse Faye, niece Amy and spouse Mitch, and nephew Brian and spouse Jani, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Predeceased by her pet Frisky and survived by Bella, her furry companions. Judy grew up in Brighton Beach, and always shared fond memories of her childhood there, including eating knishes at Mrs. Stahls. As a single mom she raised her only son, Matthew, working as both a teacher and ending her career in the NYC Board of Education as a guidance counselor. Most of all she valued family, spending countless weekends shuttling back and forth to visit her brothers, Joe and Irv, and their families, for summer swims, holiday gatherings, and just plain fun. Though there were many life challenges, Judy always forged ahead, often with the emotional support of family and friends. Judy was fiercely loyal, and her friendships lasted over many years, though mostly over the phone in recent times to surviving friends Barbara and Mary. Though Brooklyn was always her home, her son and daughter-in-law Marie eventually cajoled her into moving in with them in the Hudson Valley. There she spent her last years at the foot of the Appalachian Trail, entertaining all of her grandchildren with her silliness. She was a Brooklynite through and through, her first year in the 'cottage' surrounded by trees and wildlife prompted a resident alert throughout out the house, warnings of potential 911 calls about squirrels, raccoons, deer and the occasional gardener as potential threats. Having dinner with Kalliope and Alivia most nights was always an entertaining experience, and Gramma joked about someone buying a bib for her next birthday. She enjoyed her home cooked meals often commenting, "it happens to be good," to which she got endless ribbing. The day before she passed she played a game of charades and bopped a light-up balloon back and forth despite feeling unwell, laughing along with the family as we all acted out, rather ridiculously, everything from "Spiderman" to "Toll Booth". Visits from Jake, Holden and Simon (grandsons) were always highly anticipated events, and Judy was able to cherish a recent visit. Her unique sense of humor, generosity and quirkiness that made her "Judy" will be sorely missed and forever etched in our memories.
We are eternally grateful that she can be laid to rest next to her parents, her brother, and beloved sister-in-law Ann. Obituary Preview: On Sunday May 15, 2022 we will be celebrating the life of Audrey Brooks with a memorial service and reception at Temple Beth El in Chappaqua, NY.
Audreys smile, laugh, courage, and love made each of us a better person. The black hole that was created when she passed last year, can never be filled. She is missed every single day.

Melvin Berger - June 28, 1938 - October 06, 2021

Departed: 10/06/2021 (Mount Kisco)
Obituary Preview: Obituary: Melvin Jay Berger
Known around his hometown of Mt. Kisco, New York as a tireless community servant who helped countless citizens battling alcoholism, drug addiction, and homelessness, Melvin "Mel" Berger will be truly missed.
Born on June 28th, 1938, Mel grew up in the middle-class Bronx enclave of Pelham Parkway, as the eldest of four sons to George and Elaine Berger. He and his brother Stuart studied Pharmacy at Columbia University and soon opened a series of small pharmacies around Westchester County.
Mel settled in Hartsdale where he helped raise his three sons, Michael, Craig, and Jonathan. He first came to Mt. Kisco as a co-owner of Mt. Kisco Pharmacy, a business he would ultimately run and own by himself for over two decades. After a divorce, he moved to Mt. Kisco where he met and partnered with Cheri Nowell, and helped raise her two young children, Megan and Bob, as his own.
He would remain a proud Mt. Kisco resident for the rest of his life. As a local pharmacist, he saw first-hand the negative effects of drug and alcohol abuse in his community and founded the Mt. Kisco Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Council. Consequently, he helped pioneer the successful "Drug Court" to divert young drug and alcohol offenders away from prison and into recovery programs. Later, he would collaborate with local places of worship to create the "Emergency Shelter Partnership" to provide winter shelter to the areas growing homeless population, many of whom were laborers from Central America who couldnt find work in the colder months.
Mel was so loved and respected in the community that his children often joked that he was the unofficial "Mayor" of Mt. Kisco. In addition to his passion for community service, He was an avid fan of classic country music and his beloved NY Mets. Mel peacefully passed away on October 6th.
Mel Berger is survived by his five children and eight grandchildren. . Private Funeral
