Obituary Preview: Town of Hartland) Melvin “Sonny” Budde age 84, passed away September 6, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane (nee Rice), and his family. He was born July 31, 1937 in Appleton, NY, a son of the late Melvin Carl and Dorothy (Chase) Budde and had lived in this area all of his life.Sonny served in the U.S. Marines from 1957-1960. He attended the Hartland United Methodist Church and the County Line United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lock City Lodge No. 617 Loyal Order of Moose in Lockport and was also a member of the NRA. He was an avid Buffalo Bills and NY Yankees fan. Sonny enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing his lawnand playing euchre; but his passion was working as a meat cutter for many years.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Curtis (Diane) Kowalski, Deborah (Butch) Schultz, Lisa (Glenn) Neubauer, Amy (Kevin) Curtin, Elizabeth (Ronald) Wheeler; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; siblings Lauren (Anne) Budde, Millie Harris, Sharon (Roy) Pacheco, Raymond (Cheri) Blacklock; brother-in-law William “Bill” Rice; best friend and cousin Walter Crutts as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and special caregivers Gail and Janice. Sonny was predeceased by his siblings Arthur, Marie, Evelyn, Robert, Gerald and by 2 infant brothers and longtime friend Wally Todd. The family will receive friends at the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport NY, Monday September 13th 4:00pm-7:00pm where his Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11:00am. Burial in Hartland Cemetery with Military Honors.

Obituary Preview: (Newfane) G. Gordon Rhodes, Sr. age 96 died August 1, 2021 at Eastern Niagara Hospital following a short illness. He was born September 3, 1924 in Somerset, a son of the late L. Henry and Leona (Wass) Rhodes.
Gordon enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and family reunions. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Barker, Hess Road Wesleyan Church and a long- time contributor to the Quaker Road United Methodist Church. Gordon drove truck for White’s Transportation in Lockport, retiring after 31 years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Myrna (Stover) Rhodes; brothers Louis and Daniel Rhodes; sister Onalee Wilson. He is survived by his children G. Gordon (Betty) Rhodes, Jr., AJ (Henry) Rhodes-Stegeman, H. Alan Rhodes, Sr., K. Joyce (Thomas, Sr.) Marchiole, Richard (Renee) Rhodes, Bonnie (Mike) Difino, LouAnne (Luis) Flores; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Ella (Earl) Dickinson, Eleanor (David) Barclay; brother Keith (Sharon) Rhodes as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Obituary Preview: William L. Dusett Devoted Husband and Father, Christian, Lifelong Businessman
William Lewis Dusett, 81, of Appleton, NY, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 18, 2021 after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Bill was born on July 10, 1939 to William and Elsie Dusett in Rochester, NY. He fell in love with the water as a young boy on fishing trips with his father and learned his love for the kitchen from his mother who worked as a cook. After graduating from Fairport High School in 1957, he went on to graduate from Alfred University in 1962 with a degree in Business. Bill had an unstoppable work ethic, working at restaurants, car dealerships and bowling alleys through high school and college before starting his first business in 1968; a boat dealership. A lifelong entrepreneur, Bill managed or owned restaurants, delis, boat dealerships, marinas and a business consultancy during his 50+ years in business.
In 2020, Bill and Patricia (Hollis) Dusett celebrated 58 years of marriage and adventures with their five children. They createdforever memories living in Pultneyville, NY for 27 year and 23 years in St. Petersburg, FL before moving to Appleton, NY. Bill was famous among family and friends for neighborhood picnics and Sunday morning homemade biscuits and sausage gravy. To Bill’s own ear, he had perfect pitch and a melodic whistle that he enjoyed to his final days in family singalongs. While living in St. Petersburg, Bill served as deacon and treasurer of his beloved Island Chapel church community.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Hollis) Dusett and his sister, Connie (Dusett) Liberto. He is also survived by 5 children and many grandchildren that were his pride and joy; William Jr. and Leah (Hrozenchik) Dusett and grandchildren Julian and Miles; Paul Dusett; John and Patricia (Paparella) Dusett and grandchildren Katlyn (Gregg [and fiancé IricBressler]) and Caroline; Daniel and Theresa Dusett and grandchildren Grace (Hunt [and husband Ethan]), Mary and Jonathan; Rocco and Danielle (Dusett) Spagnolo and grandchildren Rocco and Luca.

Obituary Preview: Ronald W. Stevenson Sr. of Newfane, NY entered into rest on Sunday, March 7, 2021 after a short stay at Elderwood of Lockport. He was born on October 18, 1930, the son of Roy and Ina Stevenson. Ronald graduated from Lockport High School in 1949, worked for a short time at Dussault Foundry Corporation, and enlisted in the United States Air force from 1950-1953. Upon returning home he started a family, and was hired by Harrison’s Radiator, where he worked for 41 years until retiring as a Model Maker in Skilled Trades. Ronald married his beloved wife, Sharon Stevenson on October 25, 1985. He enjoyed the outdoors, airplanes, woodworking, being on the road, and anything with wheels. He was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion Post 410, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2535, and the Lockport Navy Marine Club.
He is predeceased by his wife, Sharon Stevenson and survived by his children; Pam Smith of Rocky Mount, NC, David Soulvie of Newfane, NY, Alan (Lynette) Soulvie of Wilson, NY, and his sister Elynor (Don) McIntosh of Erie, PA.
He is also survived by grandchildren; Janet (Stratis) Katsiris, Scott (Lauren) Smith, Stacy, Regina, David Jr., and Lina Soulvie, Karen Long and Christi (Gregory) Horanburg, niece, Heather McIntosh, and nephew, Shawn McIntosh, several great-grandchildren, and friends.
A private memorial service will be held for the family.

Obituary Preview: Norman L. Kopeck of Wilson NY passed away on February 21, 2021, at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital at the age of 81.
Norm is celebrated for dedicating his life to the education of not only his own children but for thousands of others in the community, culminating in 37 years of public service as principal at Newfane High School. His selfless efforts included 53 years as a member and twice President of the Wilson Lions Club, President of the School Administrative Association of New York, and New York state delegate to the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
He started his teaching and administrative career following his education from Erie County Community College, Buffalo State University, and Niagara University. Known always for his witty sense of humor and cheerful smile, Norm was a dedicated husband and father who loved sailing, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family. He coached youth baseball, taught religious education, was a Peer Leadership Trainer, and served as Executive to the local United Way and as a member of his church board of directors.
He is survived by his loving wife Donnalea of 59 years, son Douglas (Vaune), and grandchildren Logan and Josh; and son Gregg (Anne) and grandchildren Madison, Samantha, Elizabeth, Natasha, Abigail and Alexander, sister-in-law, Alma Kopeck, brothers-in-law, Dr. Douglas Dedrick, Duane Dedrick, and Norm Zalemski. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.
The family asks that donations be made lieu of flowers in Norman’s name to the Wilson Lion’s Club. A private family service is planned.

Randolph James “Randy” Rider, age54, died peacefully February 18, 2021 in Buffalo General Hospital with his family by his side, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born June 26, 1966 to Franklin Rider Sr., and Bonita (Robert) Fahs. Randy attended Barker Central School and was very active in the Hartland and Barker Fire Departments, holding many Line Officer positions. After becoming disabled in 2011, he became an Exempt Fireman. Randy had many friends whom he loved more than anything. They were more like his brothers and sisters and in cases, was thought of as the ‘Dad’ of the group. He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Nothing brought him more joy than his grandkids, his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Rider was predeceased by his Father and Mother and his Father-in-Law, Charles G. Williams.
He is survived by his true love and soulmate of nearly 40 years, his wife Cindy, his loving children: Shannon (Brad) Ficarella, and Brandi ( RJ ) Kropp, his awesome grandchildren: Rudolph III, Jayce, Kayson Kropp, Jameson and soon to be 5th grandson: Mason Ficarella who is due to arrive on his birthday this year. Also surviving are his sister: Tina (Ronald) Newman of Lockport, Frank (Janice) Rider of Barker, Robert Rider of Lyndonville, mother-in-law: Cheryl Smith of Bangor, PA, brother-in-law: Daryl Erskine of Bangor, PA, Chet Williams of Howard, Aren (Beth) Williams of Plattsburg along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends at the Kenneth Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue-Newfane, THURSDYAY from 4-8 p.m. ONLY. Service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Sharon was a member of St. Brendan on the Lake in Newfane. She enjoyed camping, puzzles and sitting on her front porch listing to thunder storms. Sharon’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sharon was predeceased by her husband Larry Eugene Duhow; sister, Dawn Burkett; sister-in-law Donna Nytes and brother-in-law Gary Duhow. Barbara liked to spend her time playing games of all types, from cards to board games and BINGO. Her love of games and competitive nature led her to become a championship shuffleboard player, singles and doubles, in Florida. Barbara, most importantly, was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband Duane, daughter: Gail Bird, and siblings: Theodore Robacker, Phyllis Wickham, and Marlene Carr.

Donna was a 1957 graduate of Wilson High School, was a member of St. Bridgette’s Church, and enjoyed many pleasures in life to include; knitting, ceramics, cooking and romance novels. She was the sweetest, most loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother anyone could ever hope for. Mrs. Parmley was predeceased by her husband Ashley in 2003 as well as her brother Raymond Townsend and sister Nancy French.
She is survived by her son: Robert (Deanna) Parmley of Barker, her daughters: Sharon Duhow of Lockport, Dawn (Jason) Burkett of PA , her sister: Anne George of Pendleton, her grandchildren: Ashley, Anthony, Paul, Christa, Ian, Autumn and great-grandchildren: Sean, Anthony, Robert, Hailie, Emily, Vincent as well as several nieces and nephews. Jeannine Desmarais entered glorious rest with her Lord Jesus on Friday August 8th. She was a committed and most loving wife to Marcel, loving and always present mother to David and Dennis. She was the beloved daughter of Roger and Marguerite Drouin of Manchester NH. She lived a long life filled with many memorable moments.
She worked for Raytheon Company for over 20 years as an electronics technician. In retirement she pursued her dream of owning her own gift shop starting not one but two stores. One in New Hampshire and also Gifts from the Village in Appleton which she opened when they moved to New York. Here she discovered a new passion for creating and hand beading custom jewelry.
She adored her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. When she could, she enjoyed traveling, seeing new sights and trying new things. She loved family gatherings and seeing everyone grow. She will be deeply missed.
There will be a service for family at a later date.

Robin Leigh Cummons, age 56, died unexpectedly July 7, 2020 while visiting with her mother in Columbia, MO. She was born June 4, 1964 in Lockport to John and Janet(Shuman) Ward and had lived in this area for most of her life.
Robin was a member of the Newfane United Methodist Church, and was an avid journalist who aspired someday to write a book. Robin loved motorcycles, planting flowers, horseback riding, and had a great love for all animals, especially her dogs. Her greatest joy however, was her friends and her family, especially her sons and her grandson.
She is survived by her sons: Colt Ballew of LA, Logan (Rachel) Ballew of Newfane, her mother: Janet Ward of MO, her brother: John Ward of LA, her beloved grandson: Logan “L.J.” Ballew Jr., as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Kenneth H. Obituary Preview: Appleton: Christopher Van “Chris” Wolfe, age 72, fell asleep in death on May 2, 2020 at his home. He was born March 2, 1948 in Medina to the late William and Marjorie (Jesson) Wolfe.
He was a devoted member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He spoke often of seeing his son Justin in the resurrection on a paradise Earth. He was a hard worker, loyal, selfless and humble man. He built his family business from the ground up and “never worked a day in his life”. Chris loved to work on tractors and anything mechanical and it was often said, if he can’t fix it, you don’t need it.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Justin and brother Roger.
Chris is survived by his “precious pearl” of 17 years, Larissa, whom he married October 11, 2003. Also surviving are his children, Christina (Chris) Gillinger, Lindsay (Simon Tew) Sabo, Penny (Clifford) Wolfe-Gammon, Jared Wolfe, Hallie (Stefan) Walters, Christopher (Isis) Wolfe, step-son, Andy (Carlie) Michalak, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, William (late Patricia) Wolfe and Marilyn (Terry) Luscher.
Private interment will be held at Hartland Central Cemetery.

Mike worked for 40 years as a printer for the Colad Group and also spent over 15 years as a School Bus Driver for Ridge Road Express. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a member and Elder of the Lockport First Presbyterian Church as well as a committee member of BSA Troop #40 in Wrights Corners. Mike was also a 38 year member of the Wrights Corners Volunteer Fire Department and the Wrights Corners Exempts Benevolent Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed antique cars and camping.
Mr. Lee was predeceased by his first wife, Ladonna.
He is survived by his wife, Faith, son, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Lee of Lockport, daughter, Sandra (David Cox) Mahnke of Lockport, step-daughters, Dr. Martha (Ken Ham) Ludwig of Grand Island, Patricia (Jamey) Mann of East Aurora, sisters, Lois Seekins, Nancy Perry, both of Lockport, 7 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born January 30, 1941 in Buffalo to John and Bernice (Beilfuss) Rider and had lived in this area since 1953. Franklin was a life-long fruit farmer and enjoyed going to the casino and loved his animals. He had a special affinity for International Harvester tractors and shared that passion with his family and friends. Franklin was a family man and particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as a “Prankster and a Gangster.”
Mr. Rider was predeceased by a brother John and a sister Catherine Ribbeck.

Myron enjoyed riding his motorcycle, dancing, and camping. He was a member of St. Brendan on the Lake. He owned and operated Five B’s Restaurant and ice cream trucks in Newfane in the early 1970’s. Myron also drove truck for Goods Transportation in Lockport, retiring in March of 1993.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Jessie (Annalora) Blood whom he married in 1954, his daughter, Maureen, sons, Kim, Wade and several siblings.
Myron is survived by his daughter, Carla (Randy) Nellist, daughters-in-law, Pamela Blood, Judy Gray, grandchildren, Joshua (Dr. Anat Kohn) Nellist, Andy Kim Blood, Sarah (Brian) Quackenbush, Kimberly (Derek) Ortiz, Michael J. Blood, Adam R. Nellist, 7 great-grandchildren, special loving friend, Lois Baker, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Ave. Newfane, NY 14108 on Tuesday, December 17th from 4:00-6:00pm where his Funeral Service will be held immediately following at 6:00pm. Interment will be held privately at Cold Springs Cemetery.

Karen predeceased Robert November 9, 2018.
