Obituary Preview: MADELYNE JULIANA WILLIAMS REED, Born February 17, 1951, went home to meet Jesus from her home in Gray, LA during the night of March 12, 2024. She was 73 years of age and succumbed due to complications from multiple cancerous lesions that caused her organs to shut down. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Reed of Gray (Married on September 6, 1969), 3 daughters, Gina R. Williams (former husband Derrell) of Thibodaux, Gayla G. Reed of Patterson, and Lauren B Reed of Thibodaux, eight grandchildren, Anjhae LeBlanc (Shawn), Darrion Reed, Joshua Walton (Hannah), Logan Reed, Miah Walton, Caleb Reed, Emily Williams, and Hannah
Goff; five great grandchildren, Dylan Reed, William LeBlanc, Giovante Washington, De’Vontae Walton, and Has’I Goff. There are also surviving cousins and lifelong friends. Her parents preceded her in death, Caswell P. Williams, a native of Houma and Elzina F. Williams, a native of Barataria, LA. Madelyne was the only child born to the union of Caswell P. Williams and Elzina Julia Forgues Williams.in New Orleans Louisiana at Charity Hospital. She was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. William Morris at the age of 9 in April 1960. She was blessed with an unmatched singing ability which allowed her to participate in the junior and senior choir at her church home. She continued to excel in music as part of The Thibodaux High School Choir. In 1967, she was the first and only black girl to participate in the Louisiana All-State Chorus. Fortunately, she was chosen again to participate in the Louisiana All-State Chorus in 1968. At the end of her senior year of high school in 1969, she was offered a full music scholarship at Loyola University, however, she was afraid to attend due to rumors of race riots. Eventually, she would earn an associate degree in Travel and Tourism Management between 1989 and 1990 from Phillips Junior College. She used the skills she learned in her small hometown of Gray Louisiana. She served as the secretary of The Gray Improvement Committee starting in 1990 and graduated from Leadership Terrebonne in its inaugural year of 1993. Madelyne was an avid reader which gave her a wealth of information. Her children often said, “she was Google before Google was invented!”
Madelyne was also gifted as a writer. She authored many books, poems, and songs that have yet to be published. One of her poems is included in this epitaph called, “The Ever-Abiding Heart “and her favorite song, “I Hope You Dance”. She remained instant in prayer and always thanked God for the blessings and provisions He provided for her family over the years. She was incredibly grateful to leave a legacy of having raised three generations of children which surpasses any college degree. She will undoubtably be loved and remembered always by all those lives she touched.
