Obituary Preview: Darrell T. "Ole Sawdust" Adams, age 89, of Homer, passed away June 21, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Darrell was born on November 2, 1927 in Homer to King and Blanche L. (Gregg) Adams. He married Mary Louise Campbell in Angola, IN on August 22, 1958. They had 3 children and spent 58 loving years together.
Darrell proudly served in the United States Army from Sept. 8, 1950 until his honorable discharge on June 7, 1953, proudly serving in the Korean War. After his military career Darrell worked as a lumberjack in his step-father George Ansterburg's sawmill. He also worked at Essex Wire/United Technologies in Hillsdale for 28 years. After retirement he worked for Barton Farms for many years, retiring in 1994. Outside his day job Darrell and Mary worked their own farm.
Darrell was an all around handyman and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
Darrell is survived by his wife Mary Adams of Homer; children, Darrell Dwayne (Lori) Adams of Homer, Linda K. (Blaine) Mosher of Hanover, and Craig Glen Adams of Homer; grandchildren Bennett (Erin Strait) Adams, Thomas Adams, Ted Adams, and Allison (Jon) Warner; great-granddaughters, Kylah Adams, Brinlee Adams, Whitney Strait, and Tavia Shelton. He was preceded in death by his parents, King and Blanche Adams.
Cremation has taken place and private family service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Homer Chapel, 303 S. Hillsdale St. Homer. Robert "Bob" Thomas - April 18, 1932 - June 15, 2017

Obituary Preview: Robert "Bob" Thomas, age 85, of Homer died peacefully at his home on Thursday June 15, 2017 with his family at his side.
He was born April 18, 1932, a son of Russell and Doris (Holmes) Thomas in Homer, Michigan. He graduated from Homer High School with the Class of 1950.
On March 1, 1952 he married Joyce Ott in Albion. She preceded him in death September 7, 2015. Bob served in the U.S. Navy in 1952. He proudly served 62 years with the Homer Fire Department. Bob worked at Albion Industries retiring in 1999 after 39 years, and also hauled milk for the Michigan Milk Producers Association in his earlier years.
He enjoyed gardening, traveling, spending winters in Gulf Shores, AL and summers at Tri-Lake Trails camp ground, puttering in his garage volunteering at the Homer Recycling Center, and enjoyed roundtable mourning coffee with his friends at the Stage Coach in Homer.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Homer and the Homer Alumni Association and was the Alumni of the year in 2010.
Surviving Bob are his daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Bussing of Homer, and Deb (Daryl) Myer of Battle Creek; grandsons, Brad (Kathy) Gill, and Kyle Bussing; granddaughter, Erin Bussing; special buddy and great granddaughter, Brayana Bussing; several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Thomas; and brother, Phillip Thomas.
Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday June 24, 2017 from 11 AM to 12 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Homer 309 S. Sophia St., Homer, MI 49245. A memorial service celebrating the life of Bob will take place at 12 PM on Saturday at the Church with Pastor Tim Marvil officiating. She was born November 29, 1927 a daughter of Hugh and Leone (Monroe) Van Fleet in Reading Michigan. Ruth graduated from Reading High School with the Class of 1945. She attended Michigan State University Short Course where she met her husband Robert. On May 9, 1948 she married Robert D. Booth at the First Presbyterian Church in Homer. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2008 Over the years Ruth worked at Montgomery Wards in Hillsdale, sold Avon, cafeteria aide at Homer school, Reichow/Mull Insurance Agency, Amsbaugh Furniture, Albion Community Hospital as a Ward Clerk and then in Medical Records before retiring in 1989 . She enjoyed playing bunco, cooking, baking, gardening, growing flowers, crafts, sewing, crocheting, traveling but most of all visiting with family and friends. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Homer, Order of Eastern Star of Homer, and Knights Templer Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving Ruth are her daughters Carra (Conrad) Bushong of LaOtta, IN, Bonnie (Jerry) Drake of Jonesville, Jana (Alvin) Ballinger of Albion, grandchildren Heidi (Brian) Moreno, Christy Fear, Kelly (Sarah) Bushong, Tyson Knuth, 11 great-grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren. Fleming in Coldwater. Together they shared 60 wonderful years. She attended Nursing School at Coldwater Hospital receiving her LPN. Earlene worked at State Farm in Marshall for several years and Coldwater Hospital as an LPN retiring in 1994. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, camping, the outdoors, watching birds and animals, traveling, but most of all spending time with her family.
Surviving Earlene are her husband, Don Fleming of Tekonsha, daughter, Angie Fleming of Coldwater, son, Al (Missy) Fleming of Coldwater, grandchildren, Ashley Fleming of Coldwater, Kevin Fleming of Coldwater, brother, Larry (Julie) Wirebaugh of Jackson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Obituary Preview: Cisco Allen, age 89, of Quincy died Wednesday morning, April 5, 2017 at his home in the loving care of his family.
Mr. Allen was born on February 17, 1928 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Lacy and Gracie (Allen) Allen. Cisco had worked at Hayes - Albion Malleable Company in Albion as a Crane operator. He retired in 1980 after 36 years of service to the company. He also engaged in farming. Cisco was a very hard worker often coming home from Hayes-Albion only to get on his tractor and work in the fields until dark. He loved to work in his yard and enjoyed cutting wood.
On December 28, 1947, he married the love his life the former Madgie G. Mullins in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Madgie of Quincy; daughters, Patricia (Herb) Holbrook of Homer and Diane Allen of Quincy; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Donna Baker of Litchfield, Loretta Wright of Brooklyn, Henrietta Music of Albion and Hanna Roe of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy and Gracie Allen; a daughter, Rita Crum; granddaughter, Melinda Robinson; a great grandson, Mitchell Holbrook; brothers, Hayden Allen and Woodrow Allen; and sisters, Polly Poe and Ruby Fletcher.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Homer's Chapel of the Craig K. Kempf Family Funeral Homes. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 11 AM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Jimmy Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Homer.

Richard worked at Great Lakes Steel and was a police officer for the Detroit Police Department for 25 years, in his last years with the Department he served as a Motorcycle Officer retiring in 1979. After retiring he drove school buses in Marshall and worked at the Marshall Post Office. He enjoyed watching TV, woodworking, his 1984 Chevy Pickup truck, going out to eat, but most of all spending time with his friends and family. Richard was a member of VFW Post 9411 in Homer, Detroit Police Association, Michigan Sheriff Association and Sergeant and Lieutenant Association.
Surviving Richard are his wife, Marion Lozon of Marshall, daughters, Julie Lozon of Albion, Susan Lozon of Marshall, son, Michael (Tammy) Lozon of Marshall, grandchildren, Jessica Brown, Garrett Brown, Jacob Lozon, Hannah Lozon, Luke Lozon and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 sisters.

He graduated from Ypsilanti High School with the Class of 1944. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a machinist mate. He worked for 46 years at Calhoun Foundry in Homer, retiring in 1989. Roy enjoyed airplanes, word search, building and flying RC airplanes, classic wooden boats, woodworking, bowling, flying and going to boat and air shows, particularly World War II airplanes, his favorite being the P 51 Mustang. He was a member of the Homer VFW, Battle Creek RC Club and EAA.
Surviving Roy are his sons Bruce Schanz and John Schanz, both of Jackson, grandchildren, Kurtis (Abbey) Schanz of Jackson, Nicole Schanz of Jackson, great-grandchildren, Chesney and Ryder Schanz . He was preceded in death by his father, George, mother, Kathaleen, step mother, Grace Schanz, and his wife Donna Schanz. According to his wishes cremation has taken place and a private graveside service was held at Fairview Cemetery in Homer. She loved penquins, and loved to draw, watching twilight movies, But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Obituary Preview: Lawrence B. "Larry" Crandall age 88 of Homer passed away on Sunday December 18, 2016 at Oaklawn Hospital. He was born on September 4, 1928 a son of Mason M. and Marjorie L. (Ludlow) Crandall in Albion. Larry graduated from Albion High School with the class of 1946, and received his associate's degree from Kellogg Community College .He proudly served his country in the U.S Army as a Medic during WW II. On November 26, 1949 he married Mary E. Dibble in Homer; she preceded him in death in December of 2002. Larry was the Office Manager of the Calhoun County Telephone Company until 1971 and then transferred to Delton retiring in 1991. He married Ruth Denbrock on February 14, 2004 in Punta Gorda, FL, she preceded him in death on December 21, 2015. Larry enjoyed his grandchildren, wood carving, landscaping, restoring his John Deere tractor, farming, built and learned to play a Dulcimer, tinkering and fixing things for people. He was a past President of the Homer Rotary and a member of the Homer Fire Dept.

Mr. Richardson was born on September 11, 1929 in Coldwater to Leon and Irene (Behnke) Richardson. He was a graduate of Homer High School, class of 1948. During the Korean War, Rolin served in the United States Army, where he enjoyed playing baseball. He retired from Kellogg Company in 1991. He also worked for area Plumbers such as Bill Behnke, Bob Hindenach, Shorty Hoaglin and Leydens
On November 7, 1959, he married the former Rose Rita Woods in St. Mary Catholic Church, Marshall, Michigan. She preceded him in death on December 23, 2013. Rolin along with his good friend Mike Trylick built the family home in 1960.
Rolin was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Albion, a member of the Homer Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marshall Moose Lodge #676 and the Local 333 Union. He enjoyed fishing, playing ball, hunting, gardening and bowling. He was an avid walker.
He is survived by children, Marcie (Clyde) Glass of Queen City, TX, Diane (Tom) Marsh of LaGrange, KY, Paul (Carol) Richardson of Verdigris, OK, Joan Isham of Battle Creek, Jane (Richard) Sleight of LeRoy, IL and Angie (Kyle) Uramkin of Otsego; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife-Rose, sister-Dorothy Johnson, brother-Ralph Richardson, son in law Scott Isham and 2 grandchildren.
