Obituary Preview: Lawrence "Lawdy" Herman, age 87, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at HaysMed.
Lawdy was born on August 9, 1936, on the family farmstead in Trego County, Kansas to Nick and Anna (Lang) Herman.
Lawdy was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Ellis High School in 1956. On June 20, 1959 he married JoAnn Gabel, but later divorced.
Lawdy was a legend all his own, always living life to the fullest. He was always happy and wanted others to be “happy, happy, happy.” He dedicated many years of his life to working in the oilfield, a job that he took great pride in. He was a lover of polka, pinochle, golfing, and hunting. However, his greatest joy came from being with his beloved friends and family. He liked his beer, he never wanted anyone to be thirsty. He never let a kid come into his house without offering a pop or popsicle. He was a devoted Catholic and faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Lawdy was a member of the Ellis Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree. He loved his cars, especially his ‘57 Chevy and his roadrunner. On a nice sunny day, you could find him in “Lawdys Fun Haven” throwing shoes and by dark, playing cards. He was always surrounded by friends and family, and Jack “the bodyguard” never left his side.
He cherished his role as a father to his daughter Peggy Deutscher and his two sons, Randy Herman and Sam Herman. The importance of family was immeasurable.
Surviving him are his children, Peggy (Herman) Deutscher, Randy Herman and wife Debbie, and Sam Herman. Two brothers Ervin (Sunny) Herman of Ellis and LeRoy Herman of Denver. Additionally, he leaves behind grandchildren Jared Deutscher, Bailey (Matt) Dinkel, Kiley Herman, and Jose Herman as well as great-grandchildren Hattee Deutscher, Sutton Dinkel, and Jentry Dinkel.
He is preceded in death by his parents Nick and Anna Herman; brothers Theodore, Clarence, and Louis; sisters Sr. Annice, Laurine, Lydia, Stella, Bernice, and Rita. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 13, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Following the service, Lawrence will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. A memorial visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to

A remarkable aspect of Johanna's life was her choice to not drive a car. She preferred to walk, showing her determination and commitment to an active lifestyle. Her resilience and refusal to complain, even in the face of life's challenges, made her an inspiration to those who knew her.
Johanna is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her love, care, and guidance. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Johanna, and her siblings, John, Ralph, Clarence, Theresa Reitmeyer, Anne Doerfler, and Mary Ann Kepka.

He dedicated his working life to the parts counter at an auto supply store, where he served the Garland community with his expertise and friendly demeanor. Known as a true handyman and tinkerer, he was always eager to tackle any challenge.
Christopher's love for learning and fixing things was truly remarkable. He found joy in watching YouTube how-to videos, using this knowledge to mend and create. His hands were skilled, and his determination unwavering. He wasn't just a spectator; he was a doer.
In his leisure time, Christopher had an array of interests. He enjoyed reality comedy shows, the thrill of sports, and the excitement of fantasy football. His allegiance was unwavering when it came to the Miami Dolphins. He would watch their games with enthusiasm, sharing in the triumphs and the disappointments of his beloved team.
Christopher is survived by his mother, Carol of Garland. He leaves behind two sons, Nathan Christopher Groff of Sunnyvale, Texas, and Ethan Nash Groff of Norman, Oklahoma, who were the pride of his life. Additionally, his brother, Michael Groff of Ellis, and sister, Jennifer "Torrie" Fivash, and husband Glenn of McKinney, Texas, will always hold cherished memories of their time together. He also leaves behind a nephew, nieces, and several close friends who will miss his presence dearly.
Preceding him in death was his father, Victor Groff.

20, 1939, in Hays, Kansas, to Paul P. and Irene (Leiker) Boos. He married Joyce L. White on November 27, 1965, in St. Rose of Lima Church in Great Bend. She
preceded him in death on May 10, 2015. Thomas graduated from Ellis High School in 1957. Following graduation, he enrolled in
the U.S. Trade School in Kansas City, Missouri, in the Diesel Technician program. After completion he was employed as a certified diesel mechanic at Diesel Equipment in Great Bend for over 40 years, many hours of which were spent working in the oil fields of western Kansas. In 1961 he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean
War where he served his entire tour of duty and was honorably discharged in 1963. Thomas, the eldest of nine siblings, along with his brothers, all worked to keep the family farm operating. He enjoyed trips to the farm outside Ellis where he grew up, playing golf, making homemade sauerkraut, watching drag and stock car racing, deer
hunting, and playing pinochle with his parents and siblings. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and a member of VFW Post
#3111, both of Great Bend. He is survived by a son, Philip Lee, of the home, and a daughter, Paula Rae Boos, Seattle, Washington, as well as two brothers, Dennis, Salina, Kansas, and Mark (Diane) of Ellis, and; four sisters, Amelia (Millie) Winterscheidt, Rita Younger, both of Ellis; Lila (Richard) Margreiter, Benton, Kansas, and Barbara Barkley, Lindenhurst, Illinois; and many nieces
and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, and infant son, Joseph Lee Boos; a brother Gerald Boos, an infant sister Lucy; two brothers-in-law Don R. Younger and
Larry Winterscheidt and by his parents. Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Ellis, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
September 30, 2023.
Visitation will be Saturday 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM with a family led rosary at 10:30 all at the church.

Faye graduated from Horton High School in 1945, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey filled with love, passion, and dedication.
On December 21, 1947, Faye married the love of her life, Henry "Hank" Seibel, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond until his passing on December 13, 2002. Together, they embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship and owned Seibel Liquor in Ellis, creating cherished memories and a strong sense of community.
Faye was a passionate golfer, a love that endured until the impressive age of 79. She dedicated 47 years to the sport and achieved the remarkable feat of carding 2 hole-in-ones during her golfing career. Faye was a multi-time Ladies Champion at the Ellis Golf Club, a testament to her dedication and skill on the greens. Even after she retired from playing, she found solace in watching the golf course and the golfers from her picture window, a place where she spent countless hours reflecting on her love for the game.
Faye and Hank were inseparable companions, spending much of their cherished time together on the golf course for Faye and fishing adventures for Hank. Their shared experiences created lasting memories that will be treasured by their loved ones forever.
Faye is survived by her loving son, Gary Seibel of Clayton, North Carolina, and her devoted daughter, Kathryn Bertelmann of Ellis. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her seven grandchildren: Marty, Amy, Aubree, Joshua, Daniel, James, and Ben, as well as 12 great-grandchildren who brought joy and happiness to her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry, and two brothers, Jim and Roy Jr. Faye's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Deryl dedicated her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. She served as the director of nursing at Trego Manor and made a lasting impact as an RN at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital and Long Term Care. Deryl's commitment to her profession touched the lives of countless individuals.
She was a cherished member of the Ogallah Christian Church and actively participated in the Ladies Aide Group and EHU of Ogallah. Deryl's community spirit shone through her involvement in the Ogallah 4-H club. In her leisure time, she found joy in baking and sewing, sharing her talents with family and friends.
Deryl is survived by her loving family, including two sons, Bill (Patty) Wynn of WaKeeney and Tom (Tabitha) Wynn of WaKeeney; three daughters, Peggy Braun of Ogallah, JuLee Wynn of WaKeeney, and Vicki (Dale) Henderson of Ellis; son-in-law, Dave Hafliger of Ogallah; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren with two more on the way, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carroll Wynn; a daughter, Linda Hafliger; two grandchildren, Diane Renee Henderson and Wayne Michael Braun; a son-in-law, Joe Braun; a sister, Rachelle Murphy; and a brother, Gaylon Murphy.
Private family services will be held, and Deryl will be laid to rest in the Ogallah Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: John Clifford Loflin, age 95, of Ogallah, Kansas, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side at the family farm on Monday, September 11, 2023. He was born on June 15, 1928, in Ogallah to loving parents, Clifford John and Katherine Barbara (Breit) Loflin. On February 4, 1950, he married the love of his life, Irene Mae Zerfas, in Hays, Kansas, and they shared an incredible journey together spanning 73 beautiful years. John proudly served his country as a United States Navy Veteran. Following his military service, John established himself as a dedicated entrepreneur in 1965 with Loflin Earth Moving and soil conservation business. It was very important for John to be a part of the (KLICA) Kansas Land Improvement Contractors Association for 55 years in conjunction with his business. He was also a part-time farmer, always with a passion for nurturing the land. In his younger years, John embarked on a career in construction, traveling from one job to another, often accompanied by his beloved Irene. Their adventures forged enduring friendships with coworkers and their spouses, bonds that remain strong to this day. Work was not just a necessity for John; it was his passion, and he relished the challenges of maintaining and operating heavy equipment. He was a true craftsman and a "Shade Tree Engineer."
After retiring, John and Irene seized the opportunity to explore the United States during the winter months, including remarkable journeys to Alaska in their "souped-up" Fortravel. These travels brought them immense joy and allowed them to cultivate lifelong friendships along the way. In the rare moments he allowed himself a hobby, John dedicated his time to restoring classic vehicles, including Clifford's Jeep Pickup, IH Truck, assorted Jeeps, and a Model T.
In his daily routine, John could be found at the shop, tending to equipment, and caring for the animals around the farm and shop. His dedication to his craft and his love for the land were evident to all who knew him.
John is survived by his loving wife Irene, with whom he shared 73 years of cherished memories. He is also survived by his children: John Michael "Mike" Loflin (Brenda) of Hays, Richard Loflin of Pryor, Oklahoma, Susan Anderson (Bill) of Topeka, Kansas, and Sandy Loflin Reetz of WaKeeney, Kansas: and a sister, Marjorie Miller. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren: Tammy Gros, Corey Anderson, Isaac Anderson, Dylan Loflin, Dion Reetz, Ceri Coffield, and Reine Meyer. Additionally, he leaves behind great-grandchildren: Sage Murphy, Henry Anderson, Elise Anderson, Owen Anderson, Marin Coffield, Emilia Coffield, Braden Gros, John Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson, Rinzlee Loflin, and soon to join, Oaklee Reetz.
John was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Judy Ann, and a sister, Barbara Rathbun.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial to follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis, where he will receive Military Honors. Lois was born on June 22, 1937, in Hays, to Lou J. and Edna Caroline (Zachman) Armbruster. She was a cherished member of her community and leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication.
Lois's life was marked by her commitment to care and service. She married Albert Nash and shared a fulfilling life with him until his passing in 2009. Her professional journey as a registered nurse took her to various places, including a medical clinic in Seattle and Wesley Hospital in Wichita. She dedicated her skills to helping those in need and making a positive impact on their lives.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lois was an active and enthusiastic participant in her community. She found joy in contributing her time and efforts to the Hays Medical Center Volunteer Services, where her compassionate nature shone brightly. Her involvement in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays was a testament to her strong faith and her desire to connect with others through shared beliefs.
Lois had a zest for life that was evident in her hobbies and interests. An avid walker, she embraced the outdoors and found solace in the simple act of walking. She took great pride in her yard, cultivating a beautiful space that brought joy to both herself and those around her. Her dedication to her yard work was a reflection of her meticulous and caring personality.
Survived by her siblings, Mary Lou Walters of Hays, Virginia Loflin of Ellis, Ron Armbruster and wife Janet of Ellis, and Paul Armbruster and wife Mary Lou of Thornton, Colorado, Lois was a cherished sister and aunt. Her love extended to her nieces and nephews, as she held a special place in her heart for each of them. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, and two infant sisters, Geraldine and Marlaine.

Thomas was a remarkable individual whose life was dedicated to education and ecological preservation. He served as a long-time civic leader, served on the Planning Commission for 22 years and ecological leader, leaving a lasting impact on the communities he served. Thomas spent 37 years as the Director of College Auxiliary Services at Long Beach State University before retiring from his esteemed position.
One of his proudest achievements was being a founding member of the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Orange County, California. This reserve stands as a testament to his passion for preserving and protecting the natural world. Additionally, Thomas served as a dedicated board member of the Shipley Nature Center in Huntington Beach, California, for over 30 years, further demonstrating his commitment to environmental causes.
Thomas Livengood's legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. He is survived by his two daughters, Debra Weeks and her husband Maurice of Ellis, Kansas, and Jody Ford and her husband Mark Geyer of Ellis. In addition, Thomas is also survived by two step-daughters, Crystal Whitaker and her husband James of Arizona, and Dawn Thomas and her husband Rick of Garden Grove, California. His nephew, Gary Livengood, and his wife Roberta of Marysville, California, also mourn his loss.
Thomas was a doting grandfather to Corinne, Cody, Kala, Michael, Richard, Sarah, James, Christopher, Shane, Amber, Aaron, and Steven, who will fondly remember him. Furthermore, he leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, whose lives were enriched by his love and guidance.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Elizabeth Livengood, and his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Carmen Livengood. He also experienced the loss of two beloved wives, Wanda Hall and Dianne Brewer, who held special places in his heart.
As we mourn the loss of Thomas N. Livengood, we celebrate the life of an extraordinary individual who made a significant difference in the fields of education and ecological conservation. His dedication, kindness, and love for nature will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

Survivors include his mother, Patrica, Ellis, Kansas; wife, Amber and their two daughters, Kaelyn Zahn and Madison Zahn, Ellis, Kansas; one brother Eric Zahn, Garden City, Kansas; sister, Katie (Dylan) Hawkins, McCracken, Kansas; grandfather, Raymond Zahn, Wakeeney; father in law, Dwain Ellis, Pennsylvania; mother in law, Lori Stimson, Ellis; four brother in laws, Jason Ellis, California; Corey (Andrea) Ellis, California; Geddy (Trish) Summey, Great Bend; Rusty (Ashley) Ellis, Ellis; nephews, Joey Miller, Connor Ellis, Edmond Summey, Easton Summey and Gage Robins; nieces, Nancy Hawkins, Autumn, Aspen and Ashland Ellis, and Elizabeth Summey.

Obituary Preview: Freda Marie Leiker Wiesner was born on May 13, 1929 in Ellis County, Kansas; and grew up in Munjor, Kansas. She peacefully went to heaven on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at age 94.
Freda joined her husband of 61 years, Roman Wiesner, in marriage on April 23, 1952 in Munjor. Together they raised eight children and farmed wheat and cattle northwest of Ellis, Kansas. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.
Freda holds two world records. The first is the world’s best cook. She set international standards for chicken fried steak, galushkies, apple pies, noodles, and many Volga German dishes. The second record she holds is for the world’s biggest heart. She gave so much of herself and asked so little in return.
Freda is remembered by her children Ted (Colleen), Lubbock TX; Mona Pratt (Gary), Stillwater OK; Pat, Overland Park KS; Mike, Ellis Kansas; Larry (Lynn), St. Louis, MO; Don (Lori), Wichita KS; and Elise Carter (Randy), Norman, OK.
Joining us in remembering her are six of her brothers and sisters; Sr. Mary Elise Leiker, Firma Dechant (Ralph), Clifford Leiker (Vera), Tony Leiker (Janet), Carol Wadley (Duane), and Linda Braun (Donny). Also Mom’s fault are nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In heaven, Freda has joined her husband Roman, who passed on July 24, 2013, her daughter, Jane, who passed on January 28, 1977; and her son-in-law Gary (Mona), who passed on June 26, 2015. Also meeting Mom in heaven are her sisters Alma Sanders (Ralph) and Juliana Urbanek (Keith), as well as her brother Maurice Leiker (Lillian).
Visitation will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 5-7 PM at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400E 17th, in Ellis. The parish vigil service, starting with the rosary, will begin at 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will begin 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 13 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

John was born February 12, 1931, on the family farm to Frank and Zelma (Brown) Landauer. He married Wilma Kleweno and they later divorced. They had two sons, Barry and John “Bo”.
John Graduated from Ellis High School in 1949 and joined the United States Navy after graduation. After he was discharged, he returned home to help with the family farm and raise cattle. John then made his way to Independence, Missouri working for Sears where he was a store manager for 25 years. After his retirement from Sears, he returned to Ellis and continued his work on the family farm.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a life member of the Hays VFW. He enjoyed hunting, socializing, and playing cards at the Ellis Golf Club.
John is survived by one brother, Roger Landauer and wife Pat of Salina, KS; two sisters, Adeline Henderson of Ellis and Carol Evans of Garland TX; two grandchildren Rachel Landauer of Merriam, KS and Ryan Landauer of Omaha NE; as well as four great grandchildren.
He is preceded by his parents, Frank and Zelma; two sons Barry Landauer and John “Bo” Landauer; two brothers, Gilbert and Milfred; and an infant sister, Linda Landauer.
Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday 5 PM - 7 PM with a combined vigil and rosary service at 7 PM all at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Friday visitation will be from 9 AM until service time at the church as well.

Curtis attended school in Ellis, graduating in 1973. While in high school he worked one summer for his brother, Gary, at his Texaco station. Following graduation, he worked in construction.
Curtis worked at Travenol for 15 years for Wal-Mart. He retired August 31, 2022, working 30 years for EnerSys.
Curtis loved fishing, singing Elvis’s songs and his dog, Rascal. He was an avid reader and enjoyed putting puzzles together. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Carl on Nov. 5, 1984, his mother, Amy on December 18, 1985, and brother-in-law George E. Stewart December 12, 1986
Surviving are his brother, Gary E. Sally was born on April 17,1935 in Odin, KS to Michael and Margaret (Feltis) Hoffman. She attended Great Bend High School and graduated in 1953. Sally met the love of her life, Paul Flax, at her cousin’s wedding. They were married on August 24, 1954, in Great Bend. The following August they welcomed a son, Jerome, and the following fall, a daughter, Julia. Having to move many times with the railroad, Sally and Paul always returned to Ellis, calling it home. They were married for 53 years before Paul's passing in 2007.
Sally was always ready to take a vacation or bus trip with an occasional stop at the casinos. Her travels allowed her to see much of the United States and some European Countries. She enjoyed morning coffee with the ladies, playing bingo, bridge or pinochle with family and friends. But one of her greatest joys was being with her grandchildren. She was a member of St Mary's Church and the D of I in Ellis
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; Son, Jerome; sisters Mercedes Huslig (Arthur), Anna Koester (Joseph,) Dolores Schneweis (Bernard) and Sister Mary Lawrence.
She is survived by a daughter Julia Hillman, Wakeeney; six grandchildren, Angela Flax (Geoff Martin) Olathe; Dustin Mattheyer (Mara) Ellis; Audrey Bates (Noel) Ellis; Mathew Flax (Amanda Armstrong) Salina; Jessica Cooper (Bryan) Topeka; and Preston Mattheyer (Jamie) WaKeeney; fifteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church, with a rosary at 10:30.

Clayton was a 3rd generation family farmer and rancher. He was also a mechanic working with his son, Greg at their shop, Huck Repair in Ellis for several years. He was also an avid animal lover, particularly his pet dogs that were important to him throughout his life. He was also a member of the Ellis United Methodist Church.
Clayton is survived by two sons, Dennis Huck and wife Lernie of Hays and Tim Huck and wife Carol of hays; two grandsons, John Huck and Daniel Huck; three step grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce; two sons, David and Gregory huck and a sister, Madeline Schoenthaler.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the Ellis United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ellis.
Visitation will be Wednesday 10 AM until service time at the church.

Obituary Preview: Wayne Joseph Armbrister, 71, of Burlington, Colorado, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Wayne was born July 16,1951, in Hays, Kansas to Joseph and Martha (Keller) Armbrister.
Wayne spent his childhood and adolescence in Ellis and Rooks counties, attending school in Zurich and Palco. He learned to farm from his dad, Joe, while tending the family’s land. He enjoyed spending time with his cousins and his sister, Donna (Armbrister) Benoit. Wayne graduated from Palco High School in 1969 and attended Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, where he learned carpentry.
Wayne married Terry Billenwillms in 1972. She and their unborn child preceded him in death in 1974. In 1978, he married Terrill Bartels of Burlington, Colorado. While living in Zurich, they had three children, Jonathan Armbrister in 1979, Haley Armbrister in 1982 and Molly Armbrister in 1988. Wayne and his family moved to Colorado in 1989 and settled in Burlington. They later divorced.
While living in Burlington, Wayne became well-known in the community as a talented carpenter and hard-working farmer. He built homes and completed renovations for countless families in the area and made friends wherever he went. An active member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wayne served several terms as president of the church council and led the effort to finance and build a new church for the congregation in the late 1990s.
In 2004, Wayne married Kimberly Whipple, and together the couple built a successful carpentry business. They also volunteered to operate the First St. Paul’s food booth, raising money for the church, and operated Red Cross shelters in Burlington, offering food and shelter to travelers stranded in town during inclement weather.
In addition to farming and carpentry, Wayne enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially baseball, watching Western movies, gardening and spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids.
Wayne is survived by his children, Jon Armbrister of O’Fallon, MO, Haley Armbrister of Alamosa, CO, and Molly Armbrister of Windsor, CO; step-children, Brad (Amanda) Whipple of Virginia, and Stephanie (Bob) Miller of Casper, WY; grandchildren Tyler and Sophia Armbrister and Hannah Leiker; and sister Donna (Tom) Benoit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Martha; siblings, Jeanette, Jean, Darrell and Wilma; and wives Terry and Kim.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 20, from 6 PM to 8 PM CT. with a prayer service at 8 PM all at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM CT Tuesday, March 21, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellis.
Additional visitation will be 3 PM – 4 PM MT at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, CO, followed by a short graveside service and burial at Fairview Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: JoAnne Keller left this world on March 12, 2023, after living a long life of 90 years. She was born November 20, 1932, in Hays, KS, to Ralph Furbeck and Mary (Durgeloh) Furbeck. She was the only child. She was a lifetime resident of Ellis, KS, and graduated in 1950 from Ellis High School. On June 7, 1951, she married LeRoy “Bud” Keller. They divorced, and he preceded her in 2004.
JoAnne was a homemaker, a local Avon Representative, and a clerk at the Ellis Midwest Energy office. She enjoyed spending time volunteering her service in the Ellis community. She was a member of Alpha Rho, ESA sorority. Many hours were spent on the Christmas Star Committee, Arbor Tree Committee, organizing the painting of the Main Street sunflowers, and beautifying Memorial Park. She was a dedicated Ellis City Council Member and Walter P. Chrysler board member. One of her favorite pastimes was attending the May Day Mystery Tours around the United States. She was an avid sports fan with K-State being her favorite.
Survivors include two daughters, Joleen (Ray) Fisher, Hays and Pauleen (Tim) Edmonds, Ellis; a son, Gordon Keller, Ellis; five grandchildren, Jason Edmonds and partner Kodi Garrison, Ellis; Casey (Leigh Ann) Edmonds, R.J. (Aubrey) Fisher, Raleen (Chris) Grandy, all of Hays and Emily Edmonds, San Antonio, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Georgia, Jett and Claire Edmonds, Braelyn and Braxton Grandy and Kasen Fisher all of Hays; and Taylor (Brandon) Schoenthaler, WaKeeney. Great-great grandson is Brock Schoenthaler, WaKeeney.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 14, 6:00-8:00 pm at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637.
