Roger Alan Schmitz - March 26, 1972 - May 01, 2024

Departed: 05/01/2024 (Kearney)
Obituary Preview: Roger Alan Schmitz, of Lawson Missouri, passed away on May 1, 2024, at the age of 52, surrounded by his loving family in a time of prayer, worship, and thanksgiving. We will praise God and celebrate his life with visitation on Sunday, May 5th, from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at Church of the Annunciation in Kearney, MO, and Funeral Mass at 10:00am on Monday, May 6th, again at Church of the Annunciation. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Stanberry, MO, following Mass.
Roger was born to Raymond and Debbi (Berry) Schmitz on March 26, 1972. At the age of seven, his family moved to a farm north of Stanberry, MO, where he loved the rural lifestyle of faith, family, and farming. While a student at Stanberry R-II High School, he excelled in both academics and sports where he still holds records for achievements in basketball. During his sophomore year of high school, he began dating his forever love, Ellen Showen, whom he married on August 13,1994. Together they raised six sons– the best crop the NW Missouri farm boy ever grew.
Roger graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s in Education in 1994. While at Mizzou, he loved working as a student assistant to the men’s basketball program under Coach Norm Stewart. Roger completed his Master’s Degree in Education at Northwest Missouri State University before returning to Stanberry for three years to teach history and coach varsity boys basketball. He then taught physical education and coached varsity boys basketball in Oak Grove, MO for four years while earning his Education Specialist degree. From 2003-2022, Roger served the Lawson R-XIV school district as assistant principal for one year, assistant superintendent for eight years, and superintendent for 11 years. In all, Roger spent 26 years serving the public schools of Missouri and was often called upon by peers to speak on behalf of public education at the state general assembly. The past year, Roger shared his gifts with St. Pius X High School as Assistant to the President. For twenty years, Roger deeply loved officiating men’s college basketball and inspired many with his ability to continue to run the court while bravely fighting cancer.
When retiring from education he stated, “I’ve been so blessed with a beautiful wife, awesome sons, loving parents, brother, in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, colleagues, friends, and my referee brothers. They have truly made my life special.” Those who witnessed his fight for life saw the depth of commitment to his family and were deeply impacted by his faith that sustained him each step of the way. Roger and Ellen made the decision to “speak life” when faced with a difficult diagnosis, which became the mantra they shared with others, declaring that he will “live and not die and declare the glory of the Lord!” In the 25 months of that fight, he gave 100% of his energy to his family, friends, and community of faith, sacrificing daily to maintain his determined efforts to remain present in the roles that Almighty God placed him in, without complaint for the constant suffering he was experiencing. While his outer life was fading, his inner life demonstrated a beautiful example of Christ daily to those around him.
Roger leaves behind his wife Ellen of 30 years and their six sons: Andy (Lindsey) of Columbia, MO; Kevin of Colorado Springs, CO; Jayson of Charlottesville, VA; and three sons remaining in the home: Matthew, John, and Trevor. He was the proud Grandpa to one grandson, Henry, the son of Andy and Lindsey. Other survivors include his parents, Raymond and Debbi Schmitz, brother, Doug (Tammie) Schmitz, and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Departed: 04/09/2024 (Kearney)
Obituary Preview: Quintin Conway 1977 - 2024
Quintin Conway was born in St. Louis and raised in Union, Missouri.
After graduating from Union High School in 1996, Quintin left Union to pursue a degree at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. At Jewell, Quintin was elected Student Senate President and used his natural talent for leadership to guide thriving discipleship groups and worship events, as well as serve as a Resident Assistant. While in college Quintin married Lori in May 1999 who had been the love of his life since the sixth grade. Quintin graduated from William Jewell College with a degree in business in May of 2000.
Quintin began his professional life in finance at Mid-America Mortgage. He eventually joined Platte Valley Bank as president of lending in 2006 where he served for six years until leaving to help his wife Lori pursue a dream of being self-employed. The dream eventually became theirs together. As an entrepreneur, Quintin helped to build the family business in practical ways. After helping Lori stand up her dream, Quintin began building other businesses launching Conway Properties, LLC. in 2020 and in 2021 opened Hit Factory KC in Kansas City.
Quintin had a passion for serving and ministering to others. He served as president of Liberty Sertoma for several years where he led groups in Rebuilding Liberty, served many years on the Liberty Planning & Zoning Board, the Liberty Education Foundation, as well as serving at Harvesters Community Food Network in Kansas City. For over a decade Quintin served as a financial advisor for Hillcrest Transitional Housing. Quintin loved this work dearly, bringing his knowledge of finance and heart for service to others together to serve families in major life transition or financial crisis. Quintin also had a passion for helping men rise to be Christian leaders in their homes. Over his adult life Quintin led several men’s discipleship groups and led Made for More men’s retreats in southern Missouri. Quintin loved Jesus and shared Him in practical ways in everything he did.
Quintin loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting, and working hard with his hands. There was no project Quintin would not attempt to tackle and successfully complete. He enjoyed many nights out and live music with friends. However, there was no bigger joy or point of pride for Quintin than his family. He cherished his wife and children and worked hardest at being a rock of reliability and persistent encouragement to wife Lori and outstanding father to Kale, Ella, Fisher, and Lily. He taught the children hard work, the importance of thinking for themselves and the value of a “learn as you go” attitude. Ever present, he cheered the kids on in all they did and pushed them to always do their best and put Jesus first in their life.
Quintin’s family and friends know how he shared real, raw love. He was a selfless and supportive leader for his home who loved his family fiercely. Quintin always presented a tough exterior but those that truly knew him knew how soft he could be. Always up for a good debate, he had a way of making people feel comfortable while ensuring they felt heard. The lives he touched he changed. We are extremely proud of the man he was and the legacy he has left his children. He will be forever missed.

Kenneth Ray Dunn - July 20, 1933 - January 28, 2024

Departed: 01/28/2024 (Kearney)
Obituary Preview: Kenneth Ray Dunn, son of Ralph and Kathryn Bunnell Dunn, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Marilyn Doughty Dunn, and five daughters, Paula, Pam, Jackie, Joni and Jennifer on January 28, 2024 at 1:15 am.
Ray was born on a farm near Jamesport, MO, on July 20, 1933; and spent his entire childhood in that area. He was selected by Uncle Sam to serve during the Korean Conflict but was fortunate to be sent to Korea after the peace treaty was signed. He served there from June, 1953 to May, 1955 transferring prisoners of war from both sides. He was Honorably discharged as a PFC.
After his discharge, he decided college was to be the path to pursue. He became a Bearcat at Northwest Missouri University. Since he fell in love with basketball at the age of 14, he decided to major in Physical Education with a minor in business and graduated with that degree in 1959. His first position was as basketball coach and business teacher in Quitman, MO and then as four schools consolidated, coached and taught business in the West Nodaway school district in Burlington Junction, MO for 8 years, where his success with girls’ and boys’ basketball was legendary. During the 8 years he taught there, he decided if he was going to be able to feed his growing family, he needed to pursue administration; so after summers, nights and weekends, he received his Master’s Degree from the University of MO.
Before the 5th daughter was born, he left his excellent teams behind and took a job in Clearfield, Iowa as High School Principal and girls’ basketball coach. He was there 4 years before moving to Kearney to become the Jr. and Sr. High School Principal. He held that position until 1977 when he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent in charge of Transportation and Non-Certified Personnel. He retired from that position in 1989. Deciding he could not play enough golf to keep him occupied, he took a job at Brink’s Inc. as a driver, retiring from that job 10 years later.
He and his wife began their legacy of winters in either Texas or Arizona, where his life was enriched by the many friends he made in those places. Ray was a Lions’ Club member and supporter for 30 years and an avid sportsman. He played basketball and baseball most of his life, as well as coached and refereed both basketball and football. He loved hunting pheasant and quail with his hunting buddies and son-in-law and grandson. Up or down, he was always a fan of whatever baseball team was in Kansas City, and has always been a Chiefs fan. Win or lose, they were always his team. And of course, Once a Bearcat, Always a Bearcat!
Ray was most proud of the family he created. Left to survive and mourn him is his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; daughters Paula (Rick) Bure, Pamela (Gerry) Gabel, Jackie (Chris) Belcher, Joni (Doug) Triplett and Jennifer (Chris) Pearson. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 10 of who are married, so that makes 10 more; 20 great grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Lowell Dean, his sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Max Eads, and great-granddaughter, Palmer Field.

Mack was born, November 23, 1927, in Paradise, Missouri to the late Claud Porter and the late Grace Porter. He was raised on the Porter family farm in Paradise, where he learned the value of hard work.
