Margaret Stefanowycz - December 24, 1944 - March 10, 2022

Departed: 03/10/2022 (Fairview Heights)
Obituary Preview: Margaret (nee Meyer) Stefanowycz passed away March 10, 2022.  She was born in St. Louis, MO,  on December 24, 1944 to August and Elizabeth (nee Fresenburg) Meyer who preceded her in death. She was a proud graduate of St. Alphonsus “Rock” High School.      She married the love of her life, Bohdan “Ted” Stefanowycz in 1964 after meeting him while working at Miss Hulling’s Cafeteria. They enjoyed 57 1/2 years together before her passing. His extraordinary care and infinite patience, tending to her many health concerns since 2012, ensured she remained at home as long as possible.      In the past couple of years, she experienced profound medical issues and despite COVID limitations on healthcare resources and in-person visits, she rallied to recover in rehabilitation facilities to return home. All she wanted was to return home to be with her husband again, which was planned at the end of March.       She was a beauty operator (her words) for 42 years prior to retiring in 2004. She worked in shops for others but retired as the owner of The Magic Comb, so named by one of her long-time customers who insisted that mom had “a magic comb.”      She is survived by her husband; daughters, Patricia (Paul) Earnhart and Kathryn Stefanowycz (Rhonda Weimer) and grand dog, Cooper. Also surviving are siblings Lucille Hahn, Raymond (Beth) Meyer, and Donald (Diana) Meyer, and  nieces, nephews and her cousins galore!      Mom never met a stranger, had a lot of opinions, and was fiercely proud of her marriage and kids. She welcomed everyone into her life - old friends and new.      The family offers thanks to the staff of Coulterville Rehab Center for their care and commitment to help mom recover and regain her strength. Her passing was unexpected, and she is very loved and will be deeply missed. At her request, her body was donated to science so that others can be helped.  Also at her request, there will be no services.      In her honor, share a story (or 20) with a loved one, plant an iris, and over decorate for Christmas! If you’d like, please donate in her honor to St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 3854 Flad Avenue, St. Louis, MO. 63110.

Austin J. Bequette - April 08, 1982 - March 09, 2022

Departed: 03/09/2022 (Fairview Heights)
Obituary Preview: Austin Joseph Bequette, 39, of Belleville, Illinois, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
Austin was born on April 8, 1982 in Belleville, Illinois, to Edward and Pamela and was the oldest of his four siblings. Austin was a proud father of three beautiful children, Layla, Connor and Caleb, a loving son and beloved big brother.
After graduating from Belleville West High School in 2001, Austin joined the workforce to hone the skill of a Drywall & Plasterer Finisher. Austin was an incredibly hard worker, spending most of his life working 10-12 hour days to help support his family. Never late, never absent and an early riser, Austin was “the early bird” that got the worm, as he would say. Years after high school, Austin started his own business, AB Finishing, and was well respected in the industry. Many fellow clients and contractors praised his work and heart. In recent years, Austin joined the Union and was a proud member of the Local 58 for drywall and painters; often sharing Snapchats of himself working with music booming, he showed his zest for life.
The most important role for Austin was father. He loved his children beyond measure and was so proud of them. Austin would frequently plan pool days, trips to the park, zoo, mall or movies, relentlessly doting on his children every chance he could.
Always at full speed, Austin was without a doubt the life of the party and up for anything. In his free time he enjoyed camping, float trips, barbequing, playing cards, fishing with friends and spending time with his children & family. After the recent loss of his brother, Austin chose to confirm his commitment to Christ with the blessing of water from the Holy Land at Christ Church.
Austin’s infectious “What’s Up”, caring demeanor and sweet smile, leaves a gaping void in all who loved him and he will be sorely missed. He had such a gentle warmth about him that was palpable; a genuinely caring soul that always sent the most thoughtful messages to let you know he was thinking about you.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ian E. Bequette; his maternal grandparents, Ella May and Bob Johnson; his paternal grandparents, Albert and JoAnn Bequette; his uncle, Rodney Bequette; his cousin, Abbie Haudrich and dear friend Cliff Bell.
Austin is survived by his children, Layla Elizabeth Brooke, Connor Joseph, and Stephen Caleb Bequette; parents, Pamela M. (Michael) Neary, nee Ponder and Edward J. Bequette; his sisters Lindsey B.N. (Bill) Adams and Kandace (Eric) Ortiz; stepmother Barb (John) Hermann; his nephews, Clayton and Lawson Adams and Luka Ortiz; and many precious cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Family of Austin Bequette in care of Mike Neary or Bill Adams.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.  Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
