Dale Nelson - July 14, 1939 - April 30, 2024

Departed: 04/30/2024 (Wadena)
Obituary Preview: Dale Nelson passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, surrounded by family, at CentraCare Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
Dale Lance Nelson, known to many as “Buzz”, was born on July 14, 1939, to Emil and Laura (Brown) Nelson, at his boyhood home in Stowe Prairie Township, Todd County. Dale walked to country school one-half mile from his home through eighth grade and finished his education at Verndale School.
Dale met the love of his life at the young age of 17. He married Muriel Faye Klucas on March 7, 1959, at the Hewitt Church of the Nazarene. They bought an 80-acre farm one mile from Dale’s childhood home and farmed in tandem with Dale’s parents. The Lord blessed them with four children; Kimberly, Jeffrey, David, and Camilla. As much as Dale cherished his family, his walk with his Lord and Savior was most important to him.
In addition to farming, Dale also worked at Woodland Container in Staples, MN; Homecrest Industries in Wadena, MN; Alaskan Pipeline in Prudhoe Bay, AK (6 weeks); Lindeman Body Shop in Bertha, MN; and then began his own business, Nelson’s Auto Body Shop. Dale was well-known in the Hewitt area for his skillful and creative work in the auto body business. His integrity, hard work, honesty, and kindness were apparent in the way he conducted business. Dale also became interested in building log homes after cutting his own trees and constructing his own home on the farm with his sons.
In 1990, Dale and Muriel sold their farm and embarked on a new adventure moving to Warroad, MN and worked at Marvin Window’s for 13 years. They retired near Akeley where Dale worked part-time at Walmart in Park Rapids and mowed lawns. They transitioned to Motley in 2010 and became the resident handyman for his daughters’ gift shop, still mowing lawns for area residents.
Over the years, Dale enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and grandsons. He loved taking his kids and grandkids fishing with him (ice or boat) and formed many memories with family around the campfire, giving four-wheeler rides, and coffee outings with friends. Dale could strike up a conversation with anyone and find that they had some type of connection. He enjoyed meeting new people and developing friendships. His humbleness and warm personality drew people in. He also loved the quiet time in his wood shop making unique creations and giving them to people he cared about. He was loved by all who knew him, even if only a short time.
Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Muriel. Also, children: Kim (Marcus) Edin, Jeff Nelson (Pamela), Dave (Christi) Nelson and Cam (Deron) Erickson. Grandchildren: Lance Edin, Amanda Edin, Andrew (Haley) Nelson, Anthony (Allison) Nelson, Sarina (Sheldon) Baron, Ryan Nelson, Carrie (Dallas) Ehrmantraut, Katie (Kevin) Will and Kellie (Caleb) Farber. 14+ Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends. Paul Nolte - October 29, 1934 - March 20, 2024

Departed: 03/20/2024 (Wadena)
Obituary Preview: Paul Werner Nolte went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 20, 2024.
Paul was born on October 29, 1934 to Werner and Rosa (Gebhard) Nolte. He was the fourth of seven children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. As a young boy, he enjoyed being outdoors and in the barn helping his family on the farm. Paul and his siblings grew up with their cousins who lived right down the road. When they were not riding bikes all day in the summer, they could be found swimming at the swimming hole behind the barn, which was strictly boys only! Paul attended school in District 49. He went to a one room country school for 8 years until 8th grade when he moved to the town school. Paul graduated in 1953 from Sebeka School. After high school, Paul joined the army for two years. He went to Germany for 14 months and worked for the Occupation Forces. When the time came to be done serving in Germany, Paul was happy to get back to working at what he always knew his lifelong occupation would be, farming. On May 31st, 1957 Paul met JoAnne Burley at Herb Johnson's Barn Dance in Arthur, North Dakota. Paul liked her red hair and attitude. Every Wednesday he would drive 40 miles one way to take her to a movie. They were married December 21, 1957 in a Christmas candlelight service at Herby Lutheran Church. They made their home in Steele, North Dakota for two years before purchasing their family farm in Sebeka in 1959. It was there that they would raise their six children, always busy with animals and working the land. And later, the 17 grandkids would make memories of following their grandpa around the barn to do the milking or being sent out to the tractor in the field to bring him his coffee and cookies from JoAnne. After 35 years of farming, Paul sold his farm to his youngest son, Tim Nolte. In 1992, Paul took office as county commissioner and served the county for 10 years. Paul was a long-standing member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was always up for a visit with others after every service. Paul and JoAnne were also always very active in attending and helping out with a variety of threshing shows, including Rollag and England Prairie.
Paul is survived by his children Teresa Churchman, Park Rapids, MN; Rodney (Lynda) Nolte, Aguilar, CO; Rebecca (Jamie) Hoefs, Sebeka, MN; Mark (Diane) Nolte, Valley City, ND; Timothy (Rita) Nolte, Sebeka, MN, Jim Dusek, Grafton, ND; 17 Grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren; Siblings Ben Nolte, Kerrville, TX; Norman (Marilyn) Nolte, Milaca, MN; Laura Bounds, Wadena, MN.
Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years JoAnne, Daughter Kristine Kay (Jim) Dusek, Great-grandchild Sophie Ann Hoefs, son in-law Robert Churchman, siblings, Ruth Johnson & William Nolte.

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary website, or funeral home's website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify others of the person's passing, share details about their life and accomplishments, and provide information about funeral services or memorial events.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend of the deceased writes the obituary. However, it can also be written by a funeral home or a professional obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorial donations, or other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website it will be published in. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary websites and some newspapers allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and help others remember the person.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
