Born on March 5, 1963, in Akron, Ohio, Dwayne was the eldest child of Dewey Benjamin and Lynn Abigail (Dressier) Casebier who preceded him in death. Also preceded in death by in laws Mary Ann & Lloyd Seymour and Mark & Ann Soik. He is survived by his wife Anna (Seymour), six children, Charlie, Barbara Rose Horkey of Summerville, SC, Steven Casebier, Jennifer Kane, Jordin Seymour-Casebier and Justin Seymour-Casebier, all of Alpena, Michigan, eight grandchildren, Alyssa, Ava, Austin Horkey, Tyler and Lucas Casebier, Breanna Casebier, Hailey Kane, and Anthony Brisbois, and his sister Erin (Ted) DiCresce, niece Kylie DiCresce, and nephews Jacob and Luke DiCresce all of Charleston, SC, step mother Mary Casebier, step brothers Stephen (Tracy) and Kevin (Dona) Holmstrom, and their children, all of Ohio, Aunt Debra (Bill) Roper, and many cousins.
Dwayne went to Highland High School, class of 1982 in Medina, Ohio, and attended Alpena Community College in Alpena, Michigan. Dwayne Grew up in Stow, Ohio and later moved to Sharon Center, Ohio, when he was 7 and remained in the Medina area until he moved briefly to Florida at age 21. Dwayne finally made his home Alpena, Michigan in 1986 and lived there the remainder of his life. Dwayne was a smart, kind, and nostalgic man who had many interests in life including, all things car related especially fast muscle cars, collecting matchbox cars, and building models. He was very creative and built amazing bikes, loved whacky packs, and was an avid cook. The original “head banger”, Dwayne loved rock music, especially heavy metal. A life long learner, Dwayne spoke passionately about his many interests, including sci-fi, history, politics. He loved spending time with his family watching football, UFC fights, the show Ancient Aliens, and the Weather Channel. When he had an interest, he voraciously taught himself about it and loved to discuss it. But his favorite subject was that of his children and grandchildren, for whom he was most passionate about. Dwayne had the “gift of gab” and never met a stranger. He had the most infections laugh, and wickedly funny sense of humor, he loved a good party and was always fun to be around. Most importantly though, he was a loving and loyal son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather who gave of his love, generously and freely, always ending his conversations with and “I Love You”. He was loved and will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rock on Dwayne!

Obituary Preview: David Joseph Couillard, 91, of Alpena, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. He was a kind, caring, and loving, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend that will be dearly missed. He was born on February 25, 1932 to the late Charles and Anna (Lipski) Couillard in Alpena. David was very proud to have served his country in the United States Army.
On November 13, 1953 he joined hands in marriage to the love of his life, Marylyn Snyder in San Francisco, California.
There were many things that David enjoyed throughout his life such as, woodworking and carpentry, but nothing that brought him greater joy than spending time with his family.
He is survived by six children, Diana Stepanski, Barbara Pelleran, Mary (Gary) Setcoski, Patti Morey, June Snyder, and David Couillard II, a sister Joann Montie, a brother, Daniel Couillard, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Seguin, a grandson Bryan Snyder Jr., and sons in law Randy Stepanski, and Bryan Snyder Sr.

Irene Rose Grochowski - May 12, 1924 - March 30, 2023

Obituary Preview: Irene Rose Grochowski died peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Davison Care Home in Alpena. She was 98 years old. Born on May 12, 1924 to Andrew and Nellie Kolson, Irene attended St. Mary’s School followed by Alpena High School, graduating in 1942. While in high school, Irene was employed by McCrory’s. She then worked for Consumers Power until 1944.
On July 10, 1944, just prior to his military assignment during World War II, Irene married Chester Grochowski. She traveled by train to join him in Salinas, CA, where she worked graphing research results for the Guayule Rubber Experiment Station. She then worked at the PX Office until the base closed in 1946. Once back in Alpena, Irene began her role as a homemaker. She volunteered in the St. Anne’s reading program and with girl scout events. She was an avid reader and skilled seamstress. She enjoyed days at their Grand Lake Cottage, playing cards with family and friends, bowling, and, most of all, spending time with family.
Irene is survived by her children: Tom, of Casper, WY, John (Janet), Bob (Carol), Deb (Mike) Wojda all of Alpena, and Nancy (Scott) Oostindie of Kentwood, MI; Nine grandchildren: Stephanie (Tim) Couture, Eric (Jennifer) Grochowski, Karen Grochowski, Sarah (Chip) Lukes, Matthew Wojda, Mark (Melissa)Wojda, Luke (Cassie) Oostindie, Amy (Mark) Koehler, and Aaron Oostindie: and by 13 great-grandchildren: Sadie, Caden, and Mia Couture; Riley, Kenyson, and Kestyn Grochowski; Carter and Olive Lukes; Ziggy Wojda; Carter and Harper Oostindie; and Macy, Arie, and Navy Koehler; a brother-in-law: David (Lillian Grochowski); and 27 nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband of 71 years, Chet, infant son David, daughter-in-law Kathy (Tom) Grochowski, her siblings Andrew Kolson, Julia Keller, Helen Nettleton, and Florence Snyder. Mrs. Grochowski is at the Karpus Hunter & Ross Funeral Home where visitation will take place Sunday, April 2 from 3-6 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Anne’s Church of All Saints Parish on Monday, April 3 at 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Fr. She is survived by her daughter Sarah (William) Newhouse, sister Linda Klemens, and grandchildren Elly and Lily Newhouse.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard and her brothers Charlie (Joy), Robert and Gordon Dekett.
Judy started her career at The Alpena Savings bank and Retired from MyMichigan Medical Center. Judy was also a devoted member of Community of Christ Church as well as being an active leader and volunteer with Girl Scouts. Judy loved making doll clothes and seeing the happy faces of children coming to her booth at craft shows.

He was a loving, caring, and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed dearly. Arthur was born on February 4, 1937 to the late Frank and Florence (Murray) Burns in Lachine, Michigan. He was in the United States Army where he was proud to have served his country. On September 10, 1960 he married the love of his life Doris (O’Neil) at Long Rapids Congregational Church in Long Rapids. They were married for nearly 50 years until she preceded him in death in 2010. He worked for the City of Alpena for many years until his retirement.
There were many things that Arthur enjoyed such as being involved with the D.A.V., playing cards, and being a musician where he performed many weekends at Maplewood Tavern, but what brought him the greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his four children, Delynn Burns, Debra (Steve) Partyka, Connie (Mike Szarenski) Burns, and Brian (Dana) Burns, Eight grandchildren, Danielle (Michael) Dubie, Bradley (Autumn) Burton, Breanna (Terry) Partyka-Lemcool, Jared (Mariah) Finch, Cole Barsen, McKenna Barsen, Braden Burns, and Aubrey Burns, Eight great grandchildren, a sister, Laura (Joseph) Bleau, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, and nine siblings, William, Shirley Soltysziak, Francis, Floyd, Gerald, Lucille Edgar, Jim, Genevieve Blemke, and Norman Burns, and son in law Patrick Malaney.

She was a kind, caring, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed. Mary was born on Nov. 7, 1949 to the late Harry and Florence (Gougeon) Janeske in Alpena. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. Shortly after high school, Mary worked for GTE in Alpena for several years and later for Alpena Public Schools assisting in the office.
She enjoyed many things in life such as cooking, gardening, sewing, and caring for others. However, nothing brought her greater joy than caring for and loving her family, especially her grandkids. She could often be found cooking or baking for her family or anyone else who happened to be around. She was a member of St Anne Catholic Church as well as The Daughters of Isabella. On September 9, 1972 she married the love of her life, Donald Frey at St. Anne Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by her husband of 50 years Donald, two daughters, Kali Smith of Alpena, and Kerri Richter of Petoskey, three grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Samantha, and Claire Richter, brother-in-law James Frey, sister-in-law Cheryl McNeil, and a nephew Michael McNeil. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Mindi Ane Frey.

She was born on December 23, 1960, to the late Albin and Lorraine (Januchowski) Filarski. She was born and raised in Alpena, Michigan and attended Alpena High School. She moved to Florida in 1984, residing in Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs area for more than 35 years before moving to Coralville, Iowa in 2020 for health reasons.
Jean loved nature, fishing, feeding the iguanas, birds and ducks, and listening to country music. She was a loving mother and grandmother, her family and friends were very important to her but, her greatest joy was spending time with her three granddaughters, singing karaoke with them, playing dress-up and making every moment with them special.
She is survived by her sons, Randy (Cynthia) Pearson of Iowa and Ryan Filarski of Arizona, her brother Michael (Cheryl) Filarski of Oregon and sister Janet (Phillip) Tomlinson of Arizona and stepbrother David (Tracey) Wallace of South Carolina, granddaughters Angel and Destiny Pearson and Samantha Filarski, five nephews, one niece and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her mother Lorraine (Januchowski) Filarski, December 31, 1969 and by her father Albin Filarski, October 30, 2021.

He is survived by one son, Charles G. Tubbs of Saginaw, MI., four daughters, Teresa A. Toivonen of Hillman, Melody K. Sharp of Alpena, Angela L. (Gary) Weiland of Hillman, and Kimberley L. (Terry) Arts of Lachine. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Frances L. (Bowersock) Tubbs of Hillman, one nephew, Scott Wigglesworth of Warren, five grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Garland grew up in Onaway, MI., he served in the United States Navy as a boiler operator and was a Korean War Veteran, he also sailed the Great Lakes for a a short while. He worked various jobs as a machine repair man and lived throughout Michigan. He settled in Hillman in 1972 after his son’s graduation from High School. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hillman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walks in the woods, people watching, and he had a deep love for animals.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Marion L. Brown and mother, Denelda A. (Wilcox) Brown, one sister and brother-in-law, Evert and Mona (Tubbs) Wigglesworth of Warren, MI., on son in-law Harry Toivonen of Westland, MI. and three nephews.

She grew up in Alpena and lived in the area all of her life. She attended St. Anne’s Catholic School and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1964. She married Dennis P. Hall on October 9, 1965. They were married for 20 years.
Mary attended Northwestern Michigan College in 1965. She obtained her Practical Nursing Certificate and then her Michigan Board of nursing LPN license the following year. She was employed at Alpena General Hospital for 30 years retiring in 1998.
Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, loved cooking for friends and family get-togethers at her home, and could cross stitch, needlepoint, or crochet anything you could imagine. She also loved with all her heart her daughter, grandchildren, nieces and nephew. Mary was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish as well as the All Saints Rosary Society.
Mary leaves behind her daughter, Sarah McLaren and Andrew McLaren, grandchildren, Adam Brilinski and Violet McLaren, a sister, Joann (Charlie) Lake, a brother, Thomas Wojtowicz (Paula), two nieces, Laura (Brian) Newman and Monica (Jeremy) Morissette, a nephew, Brandon Wojtowicz (Amanda), and many other family members.

He is survived by his beloved faithful companion of over 40 years, Shirley M Carr, a son, Kevin Wisniewski of Bay City MI, a daughter, Ellen (Wisniewski) Teckman of Alpena, stepson, Jason Carr of Alpena, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was a kind, caring, and loving husband, father, brother, and friend that will be dearly missed. Bruce was born on March 21, 1936 to the late Arthur and Lillian (Hatcher) Bailey in Alpena. After high school and some time spent in college, Bruce found himself involved in skilled trades and he was a pattern designer for many different companies in the automotive industry. His job requirements led him to live in various places throughout the United States. On June 9, 1956 Bruce married the love of his life, Barbara Sutherland in Detroit, Michigan.
He was a long-time member of the Jaycee’s, loved to go target shooting with his guns, and was an avid reader. He was a devoted and loving husband and father who cherished every minute of time spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara, a daughter, Susan Malone and her husband Dave, and a brother Gary Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two children, Bruce Bailey Jr., and Lisa Bailey.

You were a kind, caring, and courageous man and we will miss you dearly. Throughout your life you worked very hard and never gave up even when it seemed difficult. You were extremely proud when you become an Electrical Apprentice and later becoming a journeyman in 1956. When your employment took you to many different places throughout the United States, and even out of the country, you cherished every minute you were home. We loved and adored you with all of our hearts and thank you for all of your hard work. Though you leave us behind, we know you're in a better place with the Lord and suffering no more. Fred Louis Skiba - December 25, 1945 - January 03, 2023

Obituary Preview: Fred Louis Skiba 77 of Presque Isle (The Ultimate Outdoorsman and #1 Dad) went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 with his two sons by his side at home with the help of Hospice of Michigan after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born December 25, 1945 in Alpena to the late Louis and Louise (Fradette) Skiba. He was a miracle, the first baby in Alpena to survive a blood transfusion at birth. He graduated from Alpena Catholic Central High School in 1964. On July 2, 1966 he married the late Sharon Whitney (died in 1993 in a car accident) at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish in Alpena. He was drafted into the Vietnam War where he served parts of 1967-1968 as a field communications specialist in the United States Army. He retired from Buick City in Flint, Michigan where he worked for 34 years. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, basketball and loved teaching his two sons everything he knew about hunting, fishing and life. He was a wonderful gardener and also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino.
He is survived by his two sons, Scott of Presque Isle, and Keith (Lorena) of St. Johns Michigan, sisters Carol Skiba, and Sylvia Owens of Alpena, Ex-Wife Janene Skiba, and step daughter, Mercedes (Jay) Lovett, and 4 children of Saginaw.
He wanted to share his favorite prayer with everyone. The wings of faith: May the wings of faith uphold you when your cross is hard to bear as temptations surround you and no one seems to care. May the wings of faith surround you and shield you from pain when sorrows overcome you and teardrops fall like rain. May you know that he is with you confirm that he is there! May the valley of the shadow provide angels unaware. May the wings of faith uphold you when your cross is too hard to bear.

Obituary Preview: Philip Allan “Moe” Donakowski, 83, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at Precious Days AFC on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022 with his loving daughter at his side. Philip was a kind, courageous, and loving man that will be dearly missed by many. He was born on Oct. 12, 1939 to the late Philip and Myrtle (Minton) Donakowski in Alpena. He was a graduate of Catholic Central as well as Alpena Community College. In 1961 Philip served his country in the United States Navy and sailed aboard the USS Rock submarine. After two years in the Navy, Philip was home on leave and proposed to Barbara Hanna. They were married on June 6, 1964 and started their family with a son Philip James in San Diego, CA. in 1965. A few years later they made their way to Alpena where Philip began working at Stoneport and they welcomed a second child, Constance. After 28 years he retired from Stoneport due to being diagnosed with Mesothelioma. Being one who would never give up, Philip learned to communicate in different ways with his family and live as quality of life as he could.
There were many things in life that Philip enjoyed such as playing sports and swimming in his younger years, gardening, hunting, and just being outdoors in general. He also loved to spend time with family at his camps in Hawks, and Metz. What brought him the greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughter, Annie Lynn Hoppe, they loved to play hide and seek for hours.
Philip is survived by his daughter, Constance “Connie” (Jeremiah) Hoppe, granddaughter, Annie Lynn Hoppe, a sister, Patricia Hanna, three brothers, Dan (Mary Ann), Richard (Sherry), and Robert (Sue), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Philip James Donakowski, a brother, Gerald Donakowski, and brother-in-law, Clarence Hanna.

Donna was born on April 11, 1934 to the late Eugene and Bernadette (Brousseau) LeTourneau in Alpena.
On December 11, 1954 Donna married the love of her life Raymond Compeau at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish. They raised a family together and remained in love until Ray preceded her in death in Jan. 2020. There were many things that Donna enjoyed throughout her life but nothing that brought her greater joy than spending time with her family and snowmobiling. She was not only a lifetime member of the Alpena Snowdrifter’s Club she was one of the founders. Donna worked for the U.S. Government in the Department of Agriculture for many years until her retirement.
She is survived by her four children, Kathy (Chuck) Sobczak of Ossineke, MI., Karen (Matt) McGrath of Ventura, CA., Kenneth (Desiree) Compeau of Ossineke, and Ronald (Laycie Bushey) of Alpena, seven grandchildren, Courtney (Scott) Gagnon, Collin McGrath, Cailin McGrath, Gary (Mollie James-Allen) Compeau, Greg (Kailey O’Brien) Compeau, and Rachelle (Thomas) Sherer, a grandson in law William Hann, thirteen great grandchildren, Max and Marleigh Hann, Landen and Dillan Gagnon, Emma, Wyatt, and Nolan Compeau, Conner, Hannah, and Hunter Allen, Lincoln Sherer, William and Katie Bushey, two sisters, June (Jerry) Mills, Lois Skiba, a brother, sister in law Sally LeTourneau, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ray, brothers, Jerry LeTourneau, and Jim LeTourneau, brother-in-law, Albert Skiba, and a granddaughter, Ashley Hann.

He was a kind, caring, and compassionate father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. Willard was born on May 18, 1928 to the late Albert and Alvena (Schiesser) in Nichols, Iowa. When Willard was 20 he entered the United States Air Force where he served his country for many years, including 2 years in Vietnam, until his retirement in 1968.
There were many things in life that Willard enjoyed such as hunting, fishing, and reading but what brought him the most joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his five children, Valerie Fuhrman of Alpena, Kim (Greg) Timmerick, Betty Ann (Charlie) Streeter of Mikado, Willard K Rathjen Jr. of South Carolina, and Keith Glen Rathjen, of Iowa., nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews including Chuck and Dottie. She was a kind, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend whom will be dearly missed by many. Joy Anne was born on December 21, 1938 to the late John Pershing and Dorothy Margaret (Wagner) Richards in Wyandotte, Michigan. After graduating High School from St. Patricks School, Joy Anne continued her education at Central Michigan University where she obtained her bachelor degree in education and later pursued a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College. She was a life-long learner and had a strong passion for teaching others which led to her many years as an educator. She taught art privately, in Alpena Public Schools and at Alpena Community College, where in addition to traditional art classes, she taught pre-service teachers. Her career ended upon her retirement after 35 years, in 2000. On June 13, 1959 Joy Anne married the love of her life Thomas Lee Skiba at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wyandotte, MI. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage and raising a family until he preceded her in death in 2016.
Joy Anne enjoyed life, but nothing in life brought her more joy than spending time with her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and all of the memories made walking in the woods, swimming, skiing, skating and doing art projects. Joy Anne was a very talented and accomplished artist in oils, acrylic and water color. Her teaching and artwork are a legacy that will continue bringing joy to many.
She is survived by her six children, Noel Marie (Thomas Lee Kingman) Skiba, Hollee (Bruce) Hart, Thomas J. Skiba, Timothy Skiba, Kevin (Linda) Skiba, and Heidi Joy Ludlow, 11 grandchildren, Paul William Skiba VanEss (Jessica Martelli), Allen T. Hart, Ashley A. Hart, Michael J. Bill was a man of strong faith and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and taking care of his lawn (always striving for the best-looking lawn on block). Though, Bill’s greatest passion was carpentry. Through the years, he always had a hammer in hand, remodeling, repairing, and finally reaching his greatest accomplishment, building his home at the age of 55.
