Phillip K. Clarke - August 12, 1936 - April 29, 2024

Obituary Preview: Phillip K. Clarke, son of Charles Robert Clarke and Mabel Pearl Hess Clarke was born August 12, 1936 in St. Charles, Iowa and passed from this life Monday, April 29, 2024 at his home in Osceola at 87 years of age.
Phil received his education in Truro, Iowa where he graduated from Truro High School 1955.
He was united in marriage to Carol J. Myers Clarke on September 20, 1954 at Lamoni, Iowa and three children Cindy, Kevin and Shawn blessed this union.
Phil worked at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company for over thirty years.  After retiring he spent many winters in Texas where he and his wife enjoyed square dancing through the winter months.
Phil was a volunteer fireman for many years and was one of the original members of the Truro First Responders.  He also volunteered as a coach and was a leader in the Truro Community.
Those relatives who preceded Phil in death were his parents, Charles and Mabel and his wife Carol in 2020.
Phil leaves to cherish his memory; sister, Judy (Ross) Bedwell of St. Charles, IA; brother, Charles "Sonny" (MaryAnn) Clarke of Beatrice, NE; brother, Norman Clarke of Waukee, IA; brother, Jerry (Charlotte) Clarke of Truro, IA;  his children, daughter, Cindy Harper of Lorimor, IA, Kevin Clarke of Winterset, IA and Shawn Clarke of Osceola, IA.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tyler (Andrea) Harper, Mandy Harper, Ryan Clarke, Chad Clarke, Cody Clarke, Austin Clarke, Andrew Clarke and  Ashley Berhow; thirteen great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held at Faith Fellowship Church in Osceola, Friday May 3, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. with  Pastor Sheldon Lorensen officiating. Per his wishes, Phil was cremated and burial of his cremains will be in the Hartman Cemetery

Marla Garity - April 10, 1954 - April 26, 2024

Obituary Preview: Marla Jean (Rumley) Garity was born on April 10, 1954 to Mary Anne (Bethards) Rumley and Eugene Rumley in Leon, Iowa.  She died unexpectedly of undiagnosed metastatic cancer at University of Iowa Hospital on April 26, 2024.  She was a daughter, a sister, a sister-in-law, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt, and a friend to many.  She was generous with her time and her love for family, friends, and community.
Marla was raised in southern Iowa and graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1972.   She married David Garity and had two daughters, Michele Langenberg and Danielle Stouder.  They later divorced.
She spent over twenty years in banking, mostly at Corydon State Bank, and another twenty years with P.E.O. International, a non-profit educational organization in Des Moines.  She made many life-long friends along the way.
In Corydon, while the girls were young, she was active in PTA, the United Methodist Church, and P.E.O. She was always ready to serve in whatever capacity was needed.
In Des Moines, she joined St. John’s United Methodist Church and made new friends with the Red Hat society and Bunco. She loved all adventures that encouraged dressing up and costumes.
She was a creative hobbyist her whole life.  In the mid 80’s, she started a Victorian dollhouse that was her pride and joy for many years.  She loved all things miniature: furniture, dioramas, tiny homes, and miniature horses. She enjoyed refinishing furniture, sewing of all kinds, but most of all making costumes.
She loved to travel and plan trips to see new places.  Over the years, she traveled with her mom, her daughters, her extended family and her friends.  She recently celebrated her 70th birthday in Isla Mujeres, Mexico with friends.
She was known for her love for family and friends, remembering birthdays and sending cards, keeping in touch with those near and far.  She moved to Washington, Iowa, in 2021, to be near her grandchildren, Reagan and Sydney Stouder.  She enjoyed attending their events and being nearby.
Those left to mourn her death are her children Michele (Tony) Langenberg of Hickory Creek, TX; Danielle (Ryan) Stouder of Washington, IA; two granddaughters Reagan and Sydney Stouder of Washington, IA; sister Sheila (Roger) Kentner of Osceola, IA; her uncle, Ronald Rumley of Osceola, IA, her aunt, Betty Bethards of Leon, IA; 3 nieces, Jill Poindexter of New Virginia, IA; Cari Bethards of Pleasantville, IA; and Nichole (Katrin) Hollinger of Ames, IA; and two nephews, Scott (Heather) Bethards of Leighton, IA; and Nathan (Becca) Kentner of Osceola, IA; 10 great nieces and nephews; Leyton, Landon, and Kinsley Bethards, Blake Kingsley, Ida and Wilma Hollinger, Justin Adams, Shelby, Caleb, and Jacob Kentner, and many cousins and friends.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents Eugene (2021) and Mary Anne (2024) Rumley, brother, Tony Bethards in (2022) and nephew-in-law, Brent Poindexter (2022).
A celebration of life service, including a P.E.O. Memorial service, will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 11am at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Visitation will begin at 10am. Internment will immediately follow with a gathering of family and friends at the Osceola United Methodist Church afterwards.
Memorials can be made to P.E.O. Chapter OC (checks payable to) and will be donated to the educational loan fund, program for continuing education, and the STAR scholarship.

Obituary Preview: Hershel Jay Sims, of Osceola and formerly of Des Moines, son of Virgil Melvin Sims and Lorene Bell (Easter) Sims was born May 10, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed from this life Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at his home in Osceola, Iowa at 72 years of age.
Hershel attended school in Saydel.  He worked hard landscaping and maintenance work.   He enjoyed the outdoors, he loved fishing, his dogs and his family.   He was a big Raiders fan.  Hershel was united in marriage to Beverly Knight Crenshaw in 1998 in Osceola.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Sims and Lorene Beasley, and sisters, Ruth Chambers, and Delores Ruberti.
Hershel leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Beverly Sims, step-son, Ryan (Robin) Crenshaw, step-son, Nick Crenshaw, sister, Joan Hector, sister, Charlotte (Mick) Griffin, brother, Virgil "Bud" (Mary) Sims, Jr. as well as seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
As per his wishes he was cremated and no services are planned.

Alvina Virginia Smith - May 12, 1944 - April 23, 2024

Obituary Preview: Alvina Virginia Smith, daughter of Paul Anthony Veasman and Lura Mae (Gliem) Veasman was born May 12, 1944 in Churdan, Iowa and passed from this life Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa at 79 years of age.
Virginia moved at a young age with her family to their farm near Indianola where she grew up.  She attended school in St. Mary and graduated from Indianola High School.  She was united in marriage to Larry Nelson Smith in a double wedding with her brother John and his wife Judy on May 25, 1963 in Indianola, Iowa.
Virginia was a hard working and loving wife and mother.  She worked as a teachers aid for head start and kindergarten.  She worked some for O'Brien as a seamstress.  She received her dietician certificates through Iowa State University and cooked for the Leon Care Center, Decatur County Hospital and the Youth Shelter in Lamoni.  She also found time between jobs to have an in-home daycare for many years.  After her retirement she worked for Casey's in Osceola making donuts and cooking.
Virginia was a very good cook and enjoyed preparing for family dinners.  She enjoyed her gardening, fishing, reading, knitting, crocheting and sewing.  She was well loved and will be greatly missed.
Those relatives who preceded Virginia in death were her parents, Paul and Lura Veasman, and her son, Kevin Smith.
Virginia leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Larry Smith of Osceola, IA, daughter, Lorie (Terry) Bear of Weldon, IA, son, Mike (Kelcie) Smith of Chester, VA, son, Dennis (Vickie) Smith of Decatur, IA, 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Saturday May 4, 2024 at 10:30 am with Chaplain Matthew Novotny officiating.
Her family will greet friends from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Cremation will follow the services and her cremains will be buried at the Smyrna Cemetery at a later date.

Don Logemann - March 08, 1951 - April 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: Donald Gene Logemann was born to Leonard Claus Logemann and Clarabell (Hickman) Logemann on March 8th, 1951 and passed from this life on April 22nd, 2024.
Don was the eldest of six sons and grew up on a farm in McClelland, IA. After about 12 years, his family bought a farm in Cumberland, IA where he had many fond memories of milking Holstein cows, plowing, discing, mowing, baling, and general loving to farm.
Don, in addition to his love of farming, was mechanical by nature so after he graduated Cumberland and Massena High School, he moved to Des Moines where he started a long history of mechanic work. When he got to Des Moines, he worked at Skip’s DX Station for a few years at which point a friend told him about Hicklin GM Power Company where they would not only hire him but train him. He worked there for several years and became an expert diesel mechanic.
Don met the love of his life, Sandra Hall, while he was in Des Moines and they were married on December 16, 1973; celebrating 50 years in 2023. In February 1975, they became parents of their daughter, Jacqueline. The family moved to Osceola, IA after a couple years, so Don could still commute to work but also assist his father-in-law, Con Hall, in farming. Tired of commuting, Don was hired and employed at the Osceola International Dealership until they closed at which point he worked for Des Moines Asphalt for 16 years.
Don took early retirement at 55 and became a full-time farmer. He and Sandy built their dream home that same year on the farm and he enjoyed every minute of life. Jackie blessed him with three grandchildren: Emma, Olivia, and Luke. He thoroughly enjoyed being “Papa”, teaching them many useful life navigating skills, and loved the time spent with them. Don also had 2 four-legged friends who were his companions no matter what: Rusty the golden retriever and Luna the old English sheep dog.
Don was a proud American, determined to fix all kinds of things. He enjoyed constructing farm fence which he was very good at. He drove International tractor,” if it ain’t red it stays in the shed”, to the point he fixed up a sporty one and drove it in the Osceola parade one year. He liked discussing politics, playing cards, eating at steak houses, the occasional red beer, and watching Old Westerns on TV.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary as well as his father-in-law, Kenneth (Con) Hall. He leaves to cherish his memory: His wife Sandy, daughter Jackie, grandchildren Emma, Olivia, and Luke, great niece Arianna, brothers Ray, Jerry, Terry, and Kenny, sister-in-law Sally Dulinsky, several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends and neighbors.
Memorial services will be held June 1, 2024, at the Osceola United Methodist Church, 130 W. Grant, Osceola, IA from 1 to 3 p.m.  Interment at Union Chapel Cemetery, in Clarke County, IA will be held at a later date. Francis Denly - February 08, 1952 - April 19, 2024

Obituary Preview: Francis "Frank" L. Denly, son of Glenn “Bob” and Bernice (Wilkins) Denly was born on February 8, 1952, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Sadly, he departed from this life on April 19, 2024, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola, Iowa, at the age of 72.
Frank received his early education at Liberty Township Country Schools and graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1970.  He spent a significant portion of his working career at various factories, retiring in 2015 after 26 years of service at Paul Mueller Company where he was a shear operator. In addition to his factory job, Frank worked many years for D&B Custodial Service where he helped clean several local businesses, including Hy-Vee, Fareway, Hormel, and Clarke County State Bank.  He also enjoyed the outdoors and could be found mowing yards throughout the community for numerous residents.  Following retirement, he drove part-time for Osceola Cab for several years.
Frank was a former member of the Osceola Fire Department and had a passion for Little League Baseball, coaching both his son and nephew. Along with his love of tractors, he had a deep appreciation for farming. In his later years, Frank became an active member of Clarke County Old Iron Club and participated in many tractor rides throughout southern Iowa. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Chiefs, and Washington Redskins. In his early years Frank attended car shows with his black 1977 Oldsmobile, and in recent years he participated in many activities at Southern Hills, including watching birds dine at his bird feeder.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, along with several faithful Dachshund companions named “Buddy”.
Frank is survived by his son, Lance Denly of Osceola, IA, his brother Jim (Lana) Denly of Osceola, IA, niece Nicole (Rob) Dighton of Cedar Rapids, IA, nephew Jeff Denly of Des Moines, IA, great niece and great nephew Kennedy and Carson Dighton, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, as well as other relatives and numerous friends.
The family will receive friends at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a service at 11:00 am officiated by Pastor Danny McNeal. The service will be livestreamed on Frank's tribute wall at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Alan Duane Patterson - September 07, 1933 - April 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dr. Alan D. Patterson of Ames, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 17, 2024. Alan was 90 1/2 years young.
Alan was raised in Southern Iowa. He was the oldest of seven children. Alan excelled in academics, music and theater.  He graduated from Russell High School in 1951. He proudly joined the Iowa National Guard when he was 16 years old.  He graduated from Russell High School in 1951. He attended Creighton College and in the ROTC. He then went onto University of Nebraska Medical School. It was early in his medical career when he met and married Ardith Jensen. Together they had four children, Alayne, Alan, Alicia and Anne.
Family (staying involved with the kids’ lives & activities as they grew), family practice medicine and emergency medicine filled a great deal of Alans time. He was a respected physician in Knoxville, Des Moines and Osceola. Outside the practice of medicine, Alan enjoyed gardening, reading, exercising, and the constant pursuit of knowledge on a variety of subjects.
In recent years, Alan enjoyed spending time supporting his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching hockey games, soccer matches, music concerts, and Scouting events. Hearing about his grandchildren’s daily life and personal passions filled his life with joy. Any visit or phone call from one of these 3 grandkids made his day that much brighter, especially as two of are in college to pursue the study of their own interests for jobs in the future.
Rest in peace father as you are healed in heaven by Jesus and your love will continue to be shared through our families lives as you taught us to do.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents Loren and Elizabeth Patterson, siblings Coleen Oxford, Jane Funk, Sam Patterson, Karen Palmer, Kay Patterson, and Eleanor Quinn, and daughter Alayne Patterson. Alan is survived by his children Alan (Mindy) Patterson, Alicia Patterson (Mark Bushard) and Anne Patterson-Weber (Dale Weber), in addition to his grandchildren Meredith, Timothy and Matthew.

Linda Marie Baughman - July 21, 1949 - April 08, 2024

Obituary Preview: Linda Marie Baughman, daughter of Ora Dean and Freda Fay Carrico was born July 21, 1949 in New Virginia, Iowa and passed away peacefully at her home in Bondurant, Iowa on April 8, 2024. Linda's journey through life was defined by dedication, perseverance, and love, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
She valued education, graduating from I-35 High School in 1968 and later pursuing her education through computer training classes to enhance her work skills.
She was united in marriage to Michael "Mike" Baughman on March 7, 1971 in New Virginia and two children blessed this union.
Linda's professional career with the State of Iowa was a testament to her strong work ethic and determination. Starting as a mail room attendant, she climbed the ranks over the years to become an IT Analyst for the Iowa Department of Human Services, retiring in 2012 after forty-two years of service.
Beyond her professional achievements, Linda found joy in various hobbies and interests. She was passionate about sewing, crafting, creating and collecting porcelain dolls. Shopping was another favorite pastime, especially when shared with her girls. Linda's unwavering support extended to her family, always cheering on her grandchildren at their dance competitions and various other activities.
As a member of the Bondurant Mothers Club, Linda embraced community involvement and cherished the bonds created during her children's formative years.
Linda was preceded in death by her father, mother, paternal grandfather, Ora Carrico, paternal grandmother, Mabel Estella Carrico and her step-mother, Mildred "Darlene" Carrico.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mike Baughman, children, Staci Baughman and Jamie Baughman both of Bondurant, grandchildren, Darius Thomas, Aaliyah Brown, William Brown, Joseph Baughman, Cheyenne Baughman and Cayden Baughman; great-grandchildren Stella and Brayden Baughman; siblings: Larry (Connie) Carrico of Murray, Shirley Snell (Dwayne Mercer) of Osceola, Donnie (Kris) Carrico of Murray and Jimmie Carrico of Des Moines, along with nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Services to honor Linda's life will be held at Kale Funeral Home on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. with a visitation scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2024 with the family greeting friends form 5:00-7:00 P.M. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream of the service will be available on Linda's tribute wall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in remembrance of Linda.
Linda Marie Baughman's spirit will continue to shine bright in the hearts of those who knew her, as her kindness, strength, and love leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration during this time of loss.

Vic's hobbies included hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, wrenching and working on things. He also liked watching old NASCAR, and IROC series racing in the 90's and especially hanging with his boys.

Lisa Pauline Adams - May 28, 1966 - April 01, 2024

Obituary Preview: Lisa Pauline Adams, age 57, passed away on April 1, 2024, at her home near Weldon, Iowa. Born on May 28, 1966, in Waterloo, Iowa to Frank George and Florence Roberta Hare, Lisa led a life filled with dedication and love.
Lisa's journey began with a solid foundation as she pursued education at Dunkerton Community High School, graduating in 1984, before furthering her studies at the Business Institute of Technology in Cedar Falls, IA. She embarked on a successful career, serving as an IT Engineer for Principal Financial Group for over thirty-eight years, until her passing, during that time also managing the Walmart bakery in Osceola ten years.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Lisa was a sports enthusiast always willing to lend a helping hand. For ten years, she coached at SCI Energizers Trampoline and Tumbling. In her leisure time, Lisa found joy in spending quality moments with her family, nurturing her garden filled with tulips and Irises, and indulging in the art of Cross Stitch.
On June 21, 1986, Lisa exchanged vows with her beloved husband, James David (J.D.) Adams, at the First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. Their union was blessed with two children, Kathleen and Lewis. Lisa's memory will forever be cherished by her family, including her parents, Frank and Florence Hare of Clarksville, IA;  husband, J.D. Adams of Weldon, IA; daughter, Kathleen (Dylan) Gaumer of Osceola, IA and son, Lewis (Lena) Adams of Garden Grove, IA; grandchildren, Landon and Locklyn Gaumer and Lincoln and Hudson Adams; sister, Lynda M. (Daniel) Knudsen of Ft Collins, CO;  brother, Lewis F. Hare of Independence, IA and brother-in-law, Gerald "Gary" Alan Adams of Cedar Falls, IA, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Services to honor Lisa's life will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on April 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Amy Johnson leading the ceremony. Jody was born on December 28, 1963 in Des Moines, Iowa to Sherry and Gene Gray. She graduated from Clarke Community School District in 1982.  She went on to attend the University of Iowa and Simpson College where she graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1988. Jody held advanced degrees from Drake University, including a master’s degree in educational leadership, a specialist degree in educational leadership, and the completion of doctoral coursework.  She started her teaching career in the Clarke Community School District before moving on to Earlham to teach 5th grade where she also served as a coach and drama director.  In 1997, Jody began what would become her legacy in educational leadership. In her first administrative position, she served as the elementary principal and curriculum director at Tri-County Community Schools. Jody served in that district for eight years, the last four as both the superintendent and elementary principal. In 2005, she was hired to serve as superintendent of the Woodward-Granger Community School District and served six years in that role. In 2011, Jody accepted the position of superintendent for St. Ansgar Community Schools where she served until she retired from education in 2019. Jody was known for her success in garnering community support for facilities improvement and was extremely proud of the major facilities improvement efforts she oversaw in the final two districts she served. She had a long and well-respected educational career that impacted countless students and educators. Jody made many great friends in the communities she served and was devout in the sharing of her time, talents, and support.
Jody was a passionate Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals fan. She religiously watched and attended games throughout the years.  Jody also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, particularly with family members. She loved to travel, so much so that she would begin to plan the next trip while still on a trip. She enjoyed organizing travel arrangements and cherished the adventures with friends. Jody loved and cared for many fur babies over the years. She treated them as though they were her children. She will be missed dearly by her cats, Patches, Lido, and Miss Fig.
Jody is survived by her sister, Deb Miller, of West Branch; brother, William Wheeler, of Mason City, and a host of loving cousins.
Jody is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Julie (Bip) Gray; her nephew, Jamie Miller; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and William (Bud) Moore; and paternal grandparents, Robert and Nina Nedderman.
Services for Jody will held on Saturday, May 4th with a visitation from 3:00-5:00pm at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa.  A brief service where memories about her life and legacy will be shared, and will start at 5:00pm.

Obituary Preview: Willard Dean Allen, known to many as Dean, was born on September 15, 1952, in Osceola, Iowa, to parents Willard Edward Allen and Elnora Jean Riggs Allen. He peacefully departed from this world on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the age of 71 in the comfort of his home in Van Wert, Iowa.
Dean's journey through life was marked by dedication and hard work. He embarked on his educational path in Lucas and proudly graduated from Chariton High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to AIB in Des Moines, where he pursued accounting. Dean's career included working at the Jimmy Dean plant in Osceola until its closure in the early 1990s. Following that, he honed his skills at Southwestern Community College in Creston, specializing in carpentry. For many years, Dean successfully operated his own business, undertaking various remodeling, siding, and window replacement projects. In 2014, he joined the maintenance department at Lakeside Casino in Osceola and continued part-time until shortly before his passing.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Dean found joy in building furniture and engaging in remodeling projects. Alongside his beloved wife Diane, they shared special moments working on their kitchen remodel. He also devoted his time as a caretaker for his brother-in-law, Doug, demonstrating compassion and kindness.
Dean is preceded in death by his father, Willard J. Allen; mother, Elnora Riggs Allen; daughter, Shari Allen; mother-in-law, Marylin Cook, father-in-law, Dick Cook, and grandchildren, Trevor Fetters, Rylon Todd Cook, and Madison Makenna Cook.
Dean leaves behind a loving legacy to be cherished by his wife, Diane Sue Allen of Van Wert, IA; daughter, Karen Allen and her partner, Joel; son, Todd Cook of Van Wert, IA; son, Shad (Leslie) Cook; brother, Jim Allen of Lucas, IA; sister, Mary Lynn (Chris) Conway of Monroe, IA; brothers-in-law, Dick (Shirley) Cook, Dan (Carol) Cook, and Doug Cook; sisters-in-law, Donna Norman Cook, Debbie (Jim) Whistler of Van Wert, IA, and Doris (Gary) Loy of Murray, IA. He is also survived by special friends, Cody (Christina) Kistler, Christina Tripp of Murray, IA, Tara Norman (Logan) Pankey, as well as other relatives and numerous friends.

Dennis "Denny" Paul Henry - June 27, 1951 - March 27, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dennis Paul Henry, 72, of Woodburn was born to Helen Crawford Henry and Kenneth Paul Henry on June 27, 1951 in Osceola, Iowa. Known to family and friends as Denny, he journeyed home to his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2024 at Clarke County Hospital.
Denny began his education from the New Virginia and Osceola School Systems and graduated from Clarke High School in 1969. He started working for the Farmers CO-OP in Osceola at the age of sixteen and continued to be a faithful employee for forty-nine years, until his retirement in 2017. Denny often commented on how he missed the people. He greatly valued the CO-OP customers, which he grew to call friends.
On February 11, 1978, Denny married Cindy White at the Bethel Chapel Church in Clarke County Iowa. Denny enjoyed being a member and elder at the church for years. Denny felt God’s presence with the birth of each of his children: Leah, Samantha, and Grant. Denny had a special love for agriculture, which led to him living his entire life on a farm in Liberty Township, Clarke County Iowa, where he would call section 16 his home.
Denny was always a giver, and his final request was to donate his body and organs for those in need. His body was accepted by the Iowa Donor Network, and it will be used to help others. Denny loved his God, his family, and his farm. He was a kind, caring, and praying man.
Denny was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother Dan, in-laws Kent and Grace White, and Uncle and Aunt Ron and Bev Henry.
He is survived by his farming partner and wife of forty-six years Cindy, daughters: Leah (Mark) Doty, Samantha (Roland) Edgerton, and son Grant (Ashley) Henry. Grandchildren: Gracie Wilborn, Chloe Reynolds, Millie Reynolds, Riley Edgerton, Dean Edgerton, Colt Henry, and Colby Henry. Brother, Doug (Becky) Henry. Sister in-law, Linda Henry, sister-in-law, Connie (Richard) Marker, brother-in-law, Ed (Janice) White, brother-in-law, Dan (Kim) White. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be deeply missed.

On June 7, 1976, she married George Warren Norris, and together they were blessed with three children, Michael, Keri and Kelsi. Professionally, Jan thrived as a line coordinator at Furnas/Siemans for twenty-five years and then a hospitality worker at Lakeside Casino. However, her true passion was caring for God’s injured and neglected creatures. Additionally, she found immense joy in supporting and attending the activities of her children and grandchildren and many of their friends over the years.
In her passing, Jan reunites with her parents, Waldo and Ruby; her brother, Monte Rayburn; her sisters, Gail LePera, lona Rayburn, and Marjorie Rayburn; sister-in-law Tiffany Sparks Norris, brother-in-law, Gregg Norris, nephew, Randy McClellan, and niece, Patty Audlehelm.

Mark's journey began at Clarke Community High School, where he graduated in 1994. Following his education, he proudly served his country in the Iowa and Arizona National Guard as an equipment calibration specialist. Mark was a dedicated employee, having worked at Regal Plastics in Clive and most recently at PSSI Cleaning in Osceola.  Moreover, he served as a parent partner for dads in crisis, demonstrating his compassionate nature.
Mark's interests were as diverse as his personality. A true homebody with a big heart, he had a special connection with animals and children. He found joy in the simple things, particularly in spending time with his wife for the past eighteen years, Michelle Lee Elsen, and married on his birthday in 2016.
Mark was a man of simple pleasures, spending time at home was one of his favorite pastimes. He was known for his boundless love for animals and children, his hearty sense of humor, his quick wit when it came to trivia, and his team loyalty to Iowa State University, especially football. He was an amazing father, step-father, a fun uncle, and was always ready to share a laugh or engage in friendly competition. When asked about his hobbies, Mark would simply smile and mention his beloved wife, Shelly.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, John Michael Elsen, and grandfather, Herman Elsen, grandmother, Gertrude Elsen, grandfather, Emmett Schulze and grandmother, Madonna Schulze.

Roy Wesley Johnson - May 28, 1932 - March 14, 2024

Obituary Preview: Roy Wesley Johnson, born May 28, 1932, in Osceola, Iowa to Wilbert & Lillie (Lovell) Johnson passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024, at the age of 91.
Roy grew up around Osceola and graduated from a small one room schoolhouse in Woodburn Iowa.  He then attended Grace Bible College in Omaha where in the Spring of 1953 he met his beautiful soulmate, Rose Marie DiStefano during Choir. They were wed that fall on August 8, 1953.  Roy then went on to join the US Army in 1955 and completed his service in 1957.
The two then began their family in Omaha raising Robert, Rebecca (Becky), Rochelle and Richard.  In 1980, Roy got a job opportunity and moved their family to Lamoni, Iowa.
Roy was a talented man in the electrical and plumbing industry. He even started his own business, Johnson Plumbing & Heating, that he ran until he finally retired in 2015 at the age of 83.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, lovely Wife, Rose Marie and great-granddaughter Kynlee Marie Wallace.
Those surviving are: Children: Rob Johnson and wife TC of Lamoni, Iowa; Becky Shields and husband Willard of Creston, Iowa; Rochelle Newberry and husband Mike of Pleasanton, Iowa; Richard Johnson and wife Gretel of Hideaway, Texas.  Grandchildren: Laporcha, Jeremiah, Kristina, Nicholas, Alec, Heylee, Isaac, Rayven, Mykela, Courtney (husband, Eric), Brandi (husband, Travis), Isabella and Chloe. Great-grandchildren: Waylin, Griffin, Wesley, Amelia, Bennett, Gracelyn and Brooks. And many other relatives and friends.
The Family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and care givers at Creston Specialty Care, Creston Iowa, where Roy lived the past few years.

Obituary Preview: Beulah June (Comer) Brammer, daughter of Allen Edwin Comer and Alice Ella (Ludwig) Comer was born on June 27, 1931, in Osceola, Iowa and passed away at the Clarke County Hospital on March 3, 2024, at the age of 92.
Beulah spent most of her life in Clarke County attending school in Weldon, Iowa, where she played basketball, winning the district free throw competition. On May 27, 1949, Beulah was united in marriage to Kenneth Wade Brammer in Weldon, Iowa and eight children blessed this union.
Beulah and her husband farmed for a number of years in southern Iowa before moving to Murray, Iowa in 1970. She then worked at Dekko for 28 years as a molding operator, retiring in 1997. She has worked part time for Hy-Vee from 2008 to 2017.
She has been a member of the Southern Iowa Garden Club, TOPS club, and is an active member of LifePoint Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and doing crafts. She was also an avid sewer and loved making things for her family.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Alice Comer, husband Kenneth Wade Brammer, daughter Vicki Mae Brammer, son Kenneth Allen Brammer, son Keith Wayne Brammer, son Kendall Dwayne Brammer, son-in-law- Ed Adcock and Bill Stowers, sister Irene Hammons and brother Eugene Comer.
Beulah is survived by her children, Kathy Adcock of Osceola, Karen Stowers of Osceola, Karla (Mike) Yearington of Osceola, and Kim and (Jodie) Brammer of Murray, daughters-in-law Ronda Brammer of Osceola, Diana Brammer of Murray, Rose Brammer of Osceola, 12 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 26 step great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, 12 step great-great-grandchildren and family and a host of friends.

Ruth grew up in the Hamilton area with eight brothers and sisters, she graduated from Twin Cedars High School with the class of 1962.  She met Ivyl Eugene Bish, and they were married on July 10, 1970, in Attica, Iowa and they made their home in Woodburn, Iowa.  Ruth worked at Family Table Restaurant for many years before going to work for Lakeside Casino Restaurant in Osceola. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing family dinners.  She enjoyed crocheting and attended the Woodburn Christian Church.  She was a member of the Woodburn American Legion Auxiliary,
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Ivyl, Wayne and Bertha Wallace and son-in-law, Mel Greif, and brothers and sisters, Lowell, Loren, Verne, Lola, Boyd, Leatha, and Paul.
Ruth leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Rose Ann Greif of Woodburn, IA, grandson, Ivan Greif of Woodburn, IA, twin brother, Ronald (Jean) Davis of Geneva, IA as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Obituary Preview: Jane Kay Bendickson Mullen, daughter of Alfred and Laura Bendickson, was born January 13, 1943 in Lake City, IA and passed away from this life February 26, 2024.
Jane graduated from Cedar Valley High School, in Somers, IA in 1961. She attended CE School of Commerce in Omaha, NE on a basketball scholarship. Jane married Melvin Mullen on October 2, 1971. Jane and Melvin celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary last fall.
Started her career working for an insurance company, then a trucking company, before working for a telephone company for 24½ years. Jane retired March 1, 1990.
After retiring she worked for a church and then an architect for several years.
In 2003 she moved back to Iowa and lived on the farm where her husband, Melvin Mullen, grew up.
Jane enjoyed bowling, yoga, basketball, softball, camping with the kids, square dancing, country/western dancing, playing cards and board games, especially with grandkids. For many years she enjoyed going south to Texas for the winter where she had a host of friends to enjoy. She received a lot of satisfaction in helping others when needed.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Laura Bendickson, brother Gary Lee Bendickson, step-son Craig Edward Mullen, step-grandson, Allen Joseph (AJ) Miler, and brother-in-law Neal Schoepke.

Reba Kay Reed - June 21, 1943 - February 26, 2024

Obituary Preview: Reba Kay (Hendrickson) Reed was the fifth child born June 21, 1943 to Doyle Edward Hendrickson and Louise Evelyn (Fuller) Hendrickson. Reba grew up on a farm in Clarke County.
Reba attended a one room school in Clarke County through 8th grade. While growing up she was an active member of the 4-H club learning many sewing, cooking and woodworking activities. At the age of eleven she began doing the housework during the summer months while her mother helped with the farming.
Upon 8th grade graduation she attended Clarke Community High School. While in High School she worked as a waitress at Ethel's Cafe. She met the love of her life, Gail Wendell Reed on a blind date on Friday the 13th and upon graduation married him on May 5, 1961 which lasted for 55 years. To this union they raised three children. Reba and Gail made their home with their family in New Virginia where they lived the rest of their lives together.
Reba was a people person and never knew a stranger, just a friend she had yet to meet. She loved the Lord and was involved in community activities belonging to the New Virginia United Methodist Church, Church choir, New Virginia Lions Club, Order of Eastern Star, later consolidating with the Indianola Chapter. Reba was also a dual member of Ophir Chapter, Order of Eastern Star at Osceola. Music was a very important part of her life and she knew a lot of the hymns by heart. She enjoyed singing in the Madison/Warren Ecumenical Association choir as well as many types of music for other social events.
During the early years of her life in New Virginia she worked as a volunteer several years for the Warren County Democratic Party, Comito Apple Orchard, a Census worker for the County, Church Secretary, and a Sunday School Superintendent/ Teacher for several years. All in all she was Church Secretary for 26 years. She was chosen as Mother of the Year at the Mother/Daughter Banquet in 2009. She served on the New Virginia City Council for 15 years and worked for several State of Iowa Agencies for a total of 25 years commuting back and forth to Des Moines. She joined the Order of Eastern Star in Neophyte Chapter in March 1967 and held an office every year except 1979 when she traveled with Gail to visit the Lions Clubs in his district as he served as a District Governor. She was also a member of the New Virginia Lions Club and became a District Governor in 2005-2006. She was a member of the Red Hats in New Virginia. Reba loved to do for others and give service. She took over as Secretary of the New Virginia Lions Club after Gail passed away.
During their life together Gail and Reba traveled to Tokyo, Japan; Dunoon, Scotland; Montreal, Canada; Glasgow, Scotland; Hong Kong, China; Mexico, and Saskatoon, Scwatchean. They also traveled to forty­ eight of these United States as their family was very important to them taking a vacation almost every year with them as they grew up as well as attending the school activities as time would permit.
Left to cherish her memory are her three Sister-in-laws, Annette Hendrickson, Mary Hendrickson, and Helen Reed, her children, daughters Anna Marie (Craig) Young; Melissa Lea Reed (Friend Gary Klein); and son John Nicholas Reed. Six Grandchildren, Jason (Jacqueline) Young; Bradley Joseph (Elizabeth Anderson) Young; Vanessa Kay Reed (Adam) Palmersheim; Holly Michelle Reed; Derek Jennings Reed; Caelan Robert Reed; four great-grandchildren; Jayden Young, Dakota Young, Zander Young, and Carter Frame, two double cousins, many other cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of many friends.

Alice Elizabeth "Betty" Ogbourne - April 20, 1924 - February 26, 2024

Obituary Preview: Alice Elizabeth "Betty" Ogbourne, aged 99, of Clarke County, Iowa, passed away on February 26, 2024, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. Born on April 20, 1924, at the family home in Clarke County, Betty led a remarkable life filled with laughter, love, and never-ending adventures.
Betty's professional journey was marked by dedication and passion. She began her education at Clarke County Country School Doyle #6 and later graduated from Van Wert High School in 1941. Continuing her quest for knowledge, she attended SW College in Winfield, KS in 1947 and pursued further studies at Drake University in Des Moines during the early 1960s. Betty married Alfred Joseph Ogbourne on December 27, 1947 at the Catholic Church in Stuart, IA. Throughout her career, she taught school in Kansas, substituted in Iowa, worked for Dr. Stroy, and concluded her working years at Furnas Electric. A lifelong resident of Clarke County, Iowa, Betty made lasting contributions to her community.
A true Iowa native, Betty embraced life to the fullest. Whether engaging in card club gatherings, square dancing, or participating in the 100 yard dash at the Iowa Senior Olympics 93 years of age, she radiated energy and enthusiasm. Her love for yoga even landed her on the cover of the Iowa Yoga Magazine! Additionally, she enjoyed writing poetry, storytelling, reading to neighborhood kids, and even mowing a happy face in her yard, a testament to her vibrant spirit.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William Jones and Goldie Gladys Carrel Jones, husband, Alfred Joseph Ogbourne, great-grandson, Eli Ogbourne, brother, Eugene Jones, brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Dot Jones, sister and brother-in-law, Iris and Jim Jimmerson, and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Marie Jones.

Alice dedicated over forty-one years of her life working as an underwriter for State Automobile & Casualty Underwriters, eventually retiring in 1986. Beyond her professional achievements, Alice found joy in being outdoors, engaging in yard work, exploring the countryside, traveling, and caring for her beloved flowers. She was a faithful member of Trinity Christian Church in Decatur.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Gladys Marie (Allen) Vanderflught, her husband, Raymond LeRoy Rush, her sister, Juanita Louise Mills, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and  Lena Mae Vanderflught and LeRoy and Phyllis Vanderflught and brother, Donald Vanderflught.  Also preceding her were her father-in-law, Clyde Rush, her mother-in-law, Ava Rush, her brother-in-law, Lewis Rush, and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Rush.
Alice will be lovingly remembered by her surviving sister-in-law, Hazel Vanderflught of Grand River, IA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear family friends.
Funeral services in memory of Alice will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. The family will be available to greet friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Everystep Hospice, Kavanagh House on 56th in Des Moines.

Obituary Preview: Sharon Marcene Garrington, daughter of John and Genelle (Morrow) Asmus, Step-mother, Goldie  Asmus, was born December 15, 1946 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life February 23, 2024, at Karen Acres Health Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa at 77 years of age.
Sharon grew up in Osceola and graduated from Clarke Community High School.  She met her future husband William Dean Garrington of Chariton and they were married March 16, 1968 in Osceola, IA. They moved to Des Moines, IA where they continued to live on the South Side of Des Moines and raised their two sons, Todd and Thomas.  She attended Grandview Nursing School in Des Moines.
Sharon was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Her family was her everything, she enjoyed attending all the activities of her boys and her grandsons. Bill and Sharon enjoyed camping and their pets and enjoyed any time the family was together. Sharon enjoyed reading and worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield Insurance in Des Moines before her retirement.
Those relatives who preceded Sharon in death were her father, John Asmus, brother, Jim Asmus, husband Bill Garrington, and son, Thomas Eugene Garrington.
Sharon leaves to cherish her memory; step-mother, Goldie A. Asmus of Osceola, IA, son, Todd (Shelley) Garrington of Waukee, IA, grandsons, Tanner Garrington, Trey Garrington, Tate Garrington, Adam Garrington and Matthew Garrington, brother, Robert (Peggy) Asmus of Osceola, IA, brother-in-law, John (Linda), brother-in-laws: Beryl Kyner, David Mann, George (Debbie) Garrington, sister-in-law, Vicki Asmus as well as other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Wednesday, February 28 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Matthew Sanford officiating. The Family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Chariton Cemetery following the funeral.
Memorial contributions may be directed to her family.
