John Wesley Watson - July 29, 1952 - April 04, 2024

Departed: 04/04/2024 (Maysville)
Obituary Preview: Husband, Dad, Papa, Hero
When he said "I do", he became a husband.
He worked, sometimes more than one job to provide for his wife.
She loved him dearly.
Not much later, he was holding his child. He became a dad.
He carried her around, proudly showing her off.
Soon, one became two then two became four.
They all loved him.
Later, when his own daughters started having children, he became a Papa.
He held them, bounced them on his knee, laughed and played with them.
The sun rose and set with their Papa.
In the end, he was a hero.
He loved all of his girls deeply and he fiercely protected all of us.
He was proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
Our time together on earth will never feel like it was enough but we will take comfort in knowing Jesus came for him.
He is walking with his mother, who has been waiting a long time to see him again.
John Wesley Watson, 71, of Jacksonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2024.
John was born on July 29, 1952, to the late Joseph Glenn Watson, Sr. and Lollie Quattlebaum Watson. Growing up he was one of six children and often found himself making fond memories and learning some of life’s greatest lessons: appreciate what you have been given, never forget to take time for your family, remember to live life and never take any time for granted.
John had two passions in life: the United States Marine Corps and football. John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and retired after 22 years of service as a MSgt. His dedication to nation and country was evident in his years of service. His other passion was football. Being a true dedicated fan, when he wasn’t watching the Miami Dolphins or Alabama football, he was talking about it to anyone who would listen.
Above all, John will be remembered as a man who loved his family deeply. They were his pride and joy, and he dedicated himself to their happiness and well-being.
John leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lois (Ross) Watson of the home; children, Billie Jean Walks (Lenwood), Lenita Kelley (Troy), Candace Bell (Michael) and Cassandra Davis (Matthew); grandchildren, España Mack, Kaytlynn Day, Kharley Lane, Destiny Mack, Alexis Huffman, Kayleigh Huffman, Anthony Watson, Preston Jackson and great-grandson, Cameron Mack; brothers, Joseph Glenn Watson, Jr. (Debbie) of Middleburg, FL and Jewonia White (Terry) and Pamela Allen of Dothan, AL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Glenn Watson, Sr. and Lollie Cendia Quattlebaum Watson and siblings, David Calvin Gaskin, Franklin Jerome Gaskin, Dannie Lee Gaskin, Joseph Tullie Watson and Sheila Ann Whitehead.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Friday April 12, 2024, at Kahlert Funeral Chapel in Maysville. Private graveside service will be held at White Oak Memorial Gardens.

Bardwell Lile True - September 12, 1947 - March 10, 2024

Departed: 03/10/2024 (Maysville)
Obituary Preview: Born September 12th, 1947, to John and Juanita True in Los Angeles California, passed away peacefully due to cancer at home Sunday, March 10th New Bern North Carolina aged 76. His father John True met his mother Juanita while serving in the US Navy in China
prior to World War Two. Bard used to say he was conceived in Hawaii and born in Los Angeles. As a young boy he went to Guam where his father was the second in command on the island. This gave him an understanding of the tropics and lifelong memories like an open air cinema watching Errol Flynn as Robin Hood against the backdrop of a Pacific sunset in real technicolour.
The family returned to the States and settled in Mclean, Virginia in a house with a large plot where Bard helped with the chickens and growing tomatoes and other vegetables. He had an egg route rather than a paper route and said he made good money but the hens gave him a good pecking when he collected the eggs. He went to Mclean High school where he was a stand out athlete with varsity letters for football and baseball. As a Pitcher he signed pro forms with the St Louis Cardinals, but a serious shoulder injury cut short his pro baseball career. He was then drafted by the Army and decided to join up as a regular soldier to get a specialty training. He played baseball for the Army until he injured his shoulder again and that meant his deployment could not be delayed. His specialty was Avionics for helicopters, he hoped for Germany but got Vietnam. This was obviously life changing.
Bard received a disability from the Department of Veterans Affairs due to exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. He served from 12 December 1968 to 10 November 1971. His rank was SP5 at the grade of E5 i.e Sargeant. he was a radio mechanic in Command and Control helicopters in Vietnam from August 1969 to August 1970. An “Expert” rifleman,he received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He met Lucille Kincaid in 1974 and they became an item. He always told me it was the smartest thing he ever did.
Many of us here have known Bard as a friend and colleague and all know that as a friend, he was steadfast loyal and caring. His generosity has touched our lives in many ways which we will never forget, particularly his quirky and lethal wit and sense of humour!! There were many many laughs.
After the Army he worked as a salesman selling encyclopedias, photocopiers, electronic security systems. He lived for a couple of years in California studying at Berkeley and then moved back to the D.C metropolitan area where he sold computer systems to businesses and government agencies. He worked as a project manager in construction and historical restoration. According to his wife his crowning achievement was the restoration of the mammoth property on 19th St Washington D.C with the help of his many talented friends. This was a 3-year project.
He was an outstanding baseball pitcher mentioned already. As a football player he was a very good kicker and played both offence and defense. He discovered rugby at George Mason University where his size and ability made him a natural Full back. He played in California for the Old Gaels and the D.C area where he made the PRU Select Side. He played for George Mason Rugby Club, NOVA and Washington, and then he took up Coaching. Many players owe their success in Rugby to Bard’s coaching and infectious love of the game. He always used to say, we may not win the game, but we’ll always win the party. He coached at George Mason, Washington, Washington Irish and American University with great success and popularity.
After Rugby, he took up golf and played on courses in many States and overseas really enjoying the challenges the different courses presented.
Bard and Lucille moved from Washington D.C to New Bern in 2002 and lived in the Historic Rains House on Front St. Bard joined New Bern Country Club in 2002 and was a very active member of the men’s Golf and got his handicap down to 12. He also had two “holes in one”, which is very rare. One from D.C and one from New Bern.
He is survived by Lucille Kincaid his wife, sister-in-law Ronnie Greene, nephews and nieces.

She accepted the final news from her doctors with grace and dignity. Gayle wanted to be at home surrounded by her loving family until the time Jesus called her home.
