Albert Earl Ellis - July 06, 1924 - April 16, 2024

Departed: 04/16/2024 (Capac)
Obituary Preview: Albert Earl Ellis, Our firecracker father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Albert Earl Ellis, 99 3/4 of Allenton passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 peacefully in his sleep.
He was born to Herman and Jessie Ellis on July 6, 1924. He married the love of his life, Delores Karash, on May 29, 1948, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Richmond.
Earl was employed by Fisher Body for 30 years before retiring in 1977. The fact that Earl was retired longer than he worked was a running joke in the family. He kept himself busy in retirement with farming, even helping just last week with some spring tasks. Earl was always ready to lend a hand with Ellis Construction and spent many years as the sexton to the Berlin Cemeteries. He was an active member of the Berlin Senior Center and never missed a potluck or a chance to play cards. Earl was a fantastic polka dancer and that definitely kept him young. He loved the casinos, whether it was on a bus trip, a quick stop in Mt. Pleasant when picking up his favorite Chippewa, or getting shuttled by his gambling buddy all over northern Michigan. Earl loved being with his family and was always a sharp card player, beating everyone the last time he played. Our pal Al was always good for a visit under the tree and he never met a stranger. He was a staple salesman every Memorial Day at the Lewiston Garage Sales. He loved sitting and visiting with all the shoppers while trying to get the best deals. Earl loved dogs and after the passing of his beloved Delores, Earl found his new buddy in Spike, his chocolate lab. It was a perfect match. Spike added to the fun by running away multiple times, once for 17 days. After scouring the countryside and being all over social media, Spike just showed back up one day. He never left Earl’s side after that.
Earl leaves behind a legacy of family, hard work, and determination. He had a story for everything and never forgot a person. He is survived by son, Richard (Ginny) Ellis; daughter, Linda (Clay) Stroup; daughter-in-law, Christine Ellis; five grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Delores; son, Thomas Ellis; brothers, Clyde, Robert and Harold; and sister Viola.
The family honors the memory of Earl and invites you to visit and share memories on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Friday, April 19, visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Rite of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, Memphis. Fr. Mark Livingston, will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow the mass at the church hall.
Please consider in lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Holy Family Parish Food Pantry, Memphis or “Wishes of the Family”. For more information and Tribute Wall visit: KaatzFunerals.com

Douglas Dean Nemecek - September 19, 1926 - September 07, 2023

Departed: 09/07/2023 (Capac)
Obituary Preview: Douglas Dean Nemecek
September 7, 2023, at nearly 97 years of age, Doug Nemecek went to join his wife of 73 years. After her passing a month ago, his job here was complete. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Doug is a man who lived large and he will be missed and remembered by not only his family, but also by the many other lives that he touched.
He is survived by his three children Carman Nemecek (Whitney Stewart), Lois (Mark) Remer, and Joe (Carol) Nemecek; his three grandchildren, Jacob (Jennifer) Nemecek, Joshua Nemecek, and Joseph Nemecek; and one great-granddaughter, Bexley Nemecek. He also is survived by his sister, Nancy (Nemecek) Elliott and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Isabelle (Issy) Nemecek and several brothers and sisters.
No matter what else he did or accomplished, he was always a farmer at heart, taking pride in the family farm that has been in the family for over 100 years. He loved the farm and has been a steward of the land for his entire life. It’s been said that you get out of the land what you put into it, and Doug did just that. He planted by the cycles of the moon, could make predictions from mud puddles in the yard, and was an encyclopedia of knowledge about all things farming. Some of what he did probably shouldn’t have worked, but he had a knack (and a belief) that he could fix anything and make anything work – and most of the time, he did. Doug was intelligent, inventive, and one of the most hard-working people around.
Today, Doug would be called a life-long learner. His curiosity never waned. He got a cell phone when he was in his 90’s, was amazed that the Google Map woman could get him exactly where he needed to go, and loved that he could tell his truck to play Willie’s Roadhouse and his wish was the truck’s command.
Doug was a storyteller extraordinaire and lived a full and fascinating life. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and was someone who never met a stranger. He was active in the community, serving on the Capac Village Council and also on the Capac Fire Department. He was one of a kind and lived an extraordinary life. There aren’t many like him and his legacy lives on. Doug taught his family and friends a whole lot about the history of how things used to be and was never shy about sharing how he thought they should be now. Because of that, the world of knowledge that he had has been preserved for future generations. He knows that the farm is in good hands.
The family honors the memory of Doug and invites you to visit and share memories Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, September 11, with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Burial will be in Lynn Township Cemetery, Lynn Township. A luncheon will be held at Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac after the burial.

Isabelle "Issy" Jane Nemecek - June 08, 1928 - July 31, 2023

Departed: 07/31/2023 (Capac)
Obituary Preview: Isabelle “Issy” Jane Nemecek
Monday, July 31, 2023, Isabelle (Issy) Nemecek passed away peacefully at the age of 95. She was a wonderful wife, the proud mother of three children, grandmother to three grandsons, and great-grandmother to one great granddaughter. Her greatest love was her family. She was born Isabelle Carman in Brown City, Michigan on June 8, 1928.
She is survived by husband of 73 years, Douglas; her three children Carman Nemecek (Whitney Stewart), Lois (Mark) Remer, and Joe (Carol) Nemecek; her three grandchildren Jacob (Jennifer) Nemecek, Joshua Nemecek, and Joseph Nemecek; and one great-granddaughter Bexley Nemecek, as well as several nieces and nephews. Isabelle was preceded in death by her two brothers, Gene and Daune Carman.
A beautiful brown-eyed redhead met a handsome blue-eyed man at the roller rink in Imlay City in 1948. That was the start of a relationship and a marriage that lasted for over 73 years. Not too many people can make that claim. She devoted her life to her family and was a fiercely dedicated mom to all of her children and grandchildren. She raised them to have successful lives, always putting others before herself.
She was a beautiful singer, a painter, a reader, an animal lover, and a maker of beauty in whatever she did – whether it was wrapping packages, keeping an immaculate house, writing beautifully, or ensuring that she was put together just so – she was always making beauty.
May her soul soar and her great spirit live on, knowing that her life’s actions have made life on earth a better place for us.
