Obituary Preview: Charles Arthur Rutan, Jr. went to be with his loving Savior on May 5, 2021 at the age of 94.
He was born on August 4, 1926, to Charles Rutan, Sr. and Elizabeth Wilson Rutan.  He married Mary Louise Brown in 1948 and they enjoyed a 67-year marriage before she predeceased him in 2015.  He was a 1946 graduate of McGraw High School and was a member of the McGrawville Baptist Church.  Charlie and Mary ran the family farm and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He loved watching his grandchildren’s activities and also enjoyed family gatherings.
He is survived by his son, John, and a daughter, Nancy Hornung.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kyle (Heather) Rutan, Jenette (Hansel Urena) Rutan, Scott Hornung, and Rob (Allie) Hornung and great-grandchildren, Brycen Rutan and Madison Hornung.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Arthur Rutan, Mildred Schellinger, Levi Rutan, Ronald Rutan, Donald Rutan, and Medora Bement.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard MacLaury; and her daughters, Crystal MacLaury of South Otselic, June MacLaury of Ballston Spa, NY, and Winnie MacLaury of South Otselic.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Dominick MacLaury, Jacob Wilbur, and Jessie Preece; a sister, Betty VanDee of Cuyler; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Leeson, Helen Chambers, and Patricia Stanton; and brothers, David and Carl Greene.

Born in Waverly, NY, of September 21, 1942, David was the son of the late Porter and Lucy Armstrong.  He worked at the ladder factory, C&D Vans, Morse Chain, Smith Corona, and NYS Department of Transportation.  He was a life member of the Berkshire Fire Department, Berkshire Sr. Citizens, and the Randsom Park, Tioga Center.  He enjoyed hunting and riding his Harley.  Most of all, he loved his friends (Jack Holcomb Family) clam bakes, watching them play in the mud with motorcycles and four-wheelers and Mark taking him to flea markets.  They let Debbie and Dorothy tag along.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Underwood Armstrong; his children, Delbert (Kirstine) Armstrong and Deborah (Mark) Wood.  He also leaves behind his grandkids, Douglas (Biranna), Henry, Shawnee, Caleb (Kyeanna), Susan (Levi), and Corinne; a great-grandson, Layton; sisters, Diane Ellers, and Roberta Pregnon; a brother, Gary (Virginia); aunts, Hazel (Larry) VanSusan and Ethel Smith; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Philip and Roger.
In keeping with his wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Berkshire, NY.

Born on February 29, 1936 in the same house his father was born; Dean continued the dairy and maple heritage of his parents.  Dean was involved in dozens of organizations, including the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus, state and local Farm Bureau and maple, Rural Mail Carriers, and the local historical societies.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Esther; his children, Sarah (Brad) Calhoun, Dale Delavan, Dan (Betsy) Delavan, Jonathan (Jessie) Delavan, and Sharon (John) Stanton; a dozen grandchildren; and ten plus great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. with his son, Pastor Dan Delavan, and Pastor Larry King officiating.  A private family burial will take place at the Marathon Cemetery.  The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 12:00 p.m.  NY State Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.  Masks must be worn and social distancing will be in place.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dean may be directed to CAR World Relief, c/o Baptist Mid-Missions, P.O. Born in Corinth, NY, on February 20, 1946, Richard was the son of the late Richard VanDusen, Sr. and Eunice Moumblo VanDusen.  He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era Conflict.  Richard had worked as a dairy farmer for 20 years before going to work for Suit-Kote until his retirement.  He was a member of the NYS Farm Bureau, the NYS Forest Owner’s Association, and a board member for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Davis VanDusen; and his sons, Daniel VanDusen of Cortland and Jeffrey VanDusen of Homer.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, William Hatheway, Jocelyn (Justin) Feller, Lindsey (Cody Hubert) VanDusen, and Daniel VanDusen II; his great-grandchildren, Jude Hatheway and Jensen Feller; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Peter VanDusen in 2003, and a granddaughter, Makayla VanDusen in 2014.

Obituary Preview: David O. Harrington, 74, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the Bishop Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Syracuse, NY.
He was a lifelong resident of Cincinnatus, NY, and was a 1964 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School.  He was a member of the first graduating class of TC3 in 1970 with an AAS degree in Business Administration.  David was the owner of Kurtz-Harrington Farm Equipment and David’s Dairy Treat in Cincinnatus.  He also raised registered Holsteins and showed them in local and regional shows and at the NYS Fair in Syracuse.  He was a life member of the Cincinnatus Fire Department and Cincinnatus Emergency Squad.  He enjoyed summers at the cottage on DeRuyter Lake with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister, Nancy (Richard) Hicks, who was the 1964 NY State Dairy Princess; his nephew, Michael (Eileen) Hicks and their children, Michael and Katy; his niece, Amy (Richie) Moore and their children, Makenna and Grayson; his nephew-in-law, Jason Ervin and his children, Matthew and James; and two surviving cousins.
David was predeceased by his parents, Warner and Aleine Harrington, and his niece, Heather Ervin.

Born in Tippecanoe, IN, on May 31, 1927, Bev was the daughter of the late Earl and Clara Goodrich Parker.  A devoted Christian, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus and made many mission trips, but was most proud of her missionary work to the Campache, Mexico Orphanage.  She was also a member of the Historical Society of Smithville Flats and a member of the Triangle Quilting Club.  She served on the election board and as an inspector for the Chenango County Republican Party.
She is survived by her 15 children, Jean Conley of Cazenovia, Kenneth (Betty) Eaton of Owego, Robert (Nancy) Eaton of Willet, Charles Eaton of Iowa, Gary (Marilyn) Eaton of Charlotte, NC, Mary Lou (Tom) Neubauer of Whitney Point, Ruth Eaton of Homer, David (Linda) Eaton of Whitney Point, James (Karen) Eaton of Cincinnatus, Dennis (Elizabeth) Eaton of Cincinnatus, Debra Eaton of Willet, Edwin (Lori) Eaton of Willet, William (Patricia) Eaton of Cincinnatus, Julie Hatfield of Greene, and Jacquelyn (Stanley) Sherwood of Panama; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Eaton of Cortland.  She also leaves behind 29 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arby I. Eaton, Sr., in 1982; a son, Arby I. Eaton, Jr. in 1990; a granddaughter, Maxine Eaton in 1976, and her brother, Richard N. Parker.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Born in Saratoga Springs, NY, on August 25, 1942, Irena was the daughter of the late Lewis and Bertha Benson Betts.  After her mother’s death, she was adopted and raised by her grandparents.  On September 7, 1963, Irena married Paul Halstead, Jr., and together they shared 58 years of marriage.  Irena was an active member of the McGraw United Methodist Church and was a life-long Christian and is now with her Lord.  A loving homemaker for her family, she always had a loving ear and a cup of coffee.  Irena was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for over 25 years.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Halstead, Jr., of Solon; and her children, Allen (Ann) Halstead of Clifton Park, Wendy (Alan) Cappella of Chestertown,  Kathy (Chip) Ryan of Cincinnatus, and Lisa Halstead of Solon.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Christina, Kelly, Tommy, Grace, Christiana, Emily, Joshua, Jedediah, Christopher, Shannon, John, and Brooke.

She is survived by her children, Richard H. (Susan) Nelson, Jr. of Gillet, PA, Mary Ann Hodge of McDonough, Linda Brewer of Norwich, and Cindy Lou Wilcox of Hamilton.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tracy Lynn Thompson of SC, Carrie Deuel of FL, Nicole Moore of N. Norwich, David Brewer, Jr. of N. Norwich, Erin Bennett of Hamilton, Brandy Wilcox of Syracuse, Joshua Wilcox of Hamilton, Tyler Nelson of Binghamton,  and Kaitlyn Nelson of PA; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Lawrence of Montrose, PA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Nelson, Sr., on December 18, 2011, and nine siblings.

He is survived by his wife, together for 25 years, Kelly Brayton Knapp; and his daughters, Carrie (Michael Hoffman) Carpenter of Germantown, MD and Cassie (Michael Bidwell) of Hannibal.  He also leaves behind his siblings, Wayne (Kathy) Knapp, Patricia (Craig) Livingston, Ellison Knapp, Harold (Kelly) Knapp, Tina (David) Peacock, and a special brother, Michael (Bridgett) Knapp; nieces, Jessica Peacock and Elizabeth Knapp; a nephew, Jakob Knapp; and close friends, Jeffrey Pierson, David Pierson and Don Cole.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Darla Knapp.

Born in the Town of Taylor, NY, on January 18, 1920, Ruth was the daughter of the late Walter and Minnie Monroe Smith.  A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Cincinnatus.  She retired from Victory Markets, Cincinnatus, in 1982 after 23 years of dedicated service.  Ruth was an avid golfer and fantastic bowler who enjoyed playing cards with her friends.  She was a member the Knickerbocker Country Club and the Seven Valley Golf League.
She is survived by her children, Joe Diaz of Cincinnatus, Sally Diaz of Savona, Ruth (Mike) Credno of Baldwinsville, and Jimmie Diaz of San Francisco, CA.  She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Tracey and Metta Diaz, both of Cincinnatus; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joe Diaz, in 1982; and brothers, Robert, Louis, and Lloyd Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Angell Bartholomew; and his children, Oscar (Kim) Bartholomew, Jr. of Phoenix, NY, Ray (Heidi) Bartholomew of Pitcher, Melissa (Boyd) Rose of DeRuyter, and Asa Bartholomew of New Hope.  He also leaves behind several grandchildren; one great-grandchild, a brother, Scott Bartholomew of Pitcher; sisters, Elva White of Pitcher and Sandra Calhoun of Taylor; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Cortland, NY, on June 6, 1945, Mike was the son of the late Lindsay and Bessie Cook Pryor.  A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1963 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School.  After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.  He retired from Buckbee Meers in Cortland where he had been employed as a metallurgist for 25 plus years.  Upon retirement, he worked at ARC in Cortland where he assisted the residents.  He attended the Berean Bible Church and was also a member of the Cortland Pistol Club.  In his spare time, and whenever possible, he enjoyed fishing.  Mike’s family was his life and he enjoyed the time he spent with them and his pets.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sharon Loomis Pryor; and his children, Scott (Valerie) Yeaw of Pitcher, Michael (Traci Dutton) Pryor, Jr. of Calistoga, CA, Cheryl (Michael) Phippen of Kinderhook, David Yeaw of Marathon, and Candi (Terry) Bordell of Delmar.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Mary, Sean, Joan, Calista, Cameron, Kayla, McKena, and Sophie; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Barbara) Pryor of Coco, FL; sisters, Kathy (David) Pridemore of St. Cloud, FL, and Joanne Pryor of Winter Park, FL; an uncle George (Sharon) Pryor of Cincinnatus; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Allis Excavating and the Sky View Acres Beef Farm for many years.  He was a past member of the McGraw American Legion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Janice “Johnnie” Allis; and his children, Robert (Pilar) Allis of New Mexico, Patricia (Cory) Smith of McGraw, Susan (Rick) Urban of Homer, and Kathleen (Michael) Timmerman of Cortland.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jessica, Casey, Donovan, Thornton, Alex, Drew, Erik, Maria, Brody, Marissa, Michael, Morgan, Seth, and Zoe; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Kay (Rod) Birdsall of Naples, FL; a brother-in-law, Burt Abdallah of McGraw; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in E. Freetown, NY, on July 2, 1922, Mrs. Doran was the daughter of the late Paul and Mildred Kimball Caldwell.  A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the McGraw United Methodist Church.  Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a pad maker for silverware with the Central Paper Box Company in McGraw.  She enjoyed helping her husband on the family farm and at one time, had an egg and meat delivery route in McGraw.  In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and camping with her family.  Mrs. Doran was a loving and amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law, and will be dearly missed by her family.
She is survived by her children, David (Carol) of McGraw, Wayne (Judy) of Nightengale, NC, and Charles (Lynda) of McGraw.  She also leaves behind her grandsons, Chad (Denise) of McGraw, John of McGraw, Wayne, Jr., of California, Michael (Joanne) of Pennsylvania, and James of Virginia; her great-grandchildren, Kassandra of McGraw, Alex, Lindsey, and McKenzie, all of Pennsylvania.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Doran, in 2011; a daughter, Doris Doran, in 1954; a brother, Lawrence Caldwell, in 2010; and a sister, Pauline Hall, in 2018.

She is survived by her children, Susan Fox, of Tucson, AZ, and Terry (Cathy Bridge) Fox of Waterville.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jeffrey Fox, Sandy Fox, Tracey Pierson, and Sherry Daniels; and a sister, Shirley Dickens of both Newfield and Venice, FL.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Robert G. Fox, on January 4, 2015.

He is survived by his life partner, Scott Banks of Cincinnatus; and three daughters, Heather (Jeff) Fairchild of Cortland, Kim Hasenjager of Locke, and Heidi Hasenjager of McGraw.  He also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcia (Jack) Ruffing of Alabama; a sister-in-law, Marylou Hasenjager of Moravia; three nephews; one great-nephew; two great-nieces; and his former wife, Vera Hasenjager of E.  Homer.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Bill Hasenjager.

He is survived by his father, Francis (Ann) Knickerbocker, of South Otselic; and his siblings, David (Sherry) Knickerbocker of Cincinnatus, Steven Knickerbocker of South Otselic, William (Shelley) Knickerbocker of Solon, and Margaret (Robert) Kage of Endicott.  He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his canine companions, Samson and Delilah.
He was predeceased by his mother, Arlene Knickerbocker, in 1999.

Bonham.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobile riding.
In addition to his mother, Patricia Bush Johnston, of Pitcher, he is survived by his children, Kenny (Ginny Burdick) Bush of DeRuyter, Erin (Michael) Kenyon of Willet, Nathan (Kate Bassett) Bush of Cincinnatus, Ethan (Dominique Burkhammer) Bush of Parish, Brennan (Rebecca) Bush of Charlottesville, NC, Brandon (Abigail Putnam) Bush of Cincinnatus, and Mitchell Bush of Hooks, TX.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Arianna, Gavin, Dilan, Damian, Dayne, Jameson, Blake, Oakley, Blake, Connor, Mila, Jaxson, and Laikyn; a brother, James (Jennifer Pickert) of E. Carol was born in Cortland, NY, on June 20, 1942, the daughter of the late Gibson and Gertrude Cook Davis.  A lifelong resident of this area, she was a 1960 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School and a 1963 graduate of Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing.  She was a former member of the Pharsalia United Methodist church, until its closing.  She retired from Chenango Memorial Hospital in 2002 after 29 years of dedicated service.  Carol grew up on the Davis Family farm where she developed her love for animals, especially horses.  She found complete enjoyment in helping her dad on the farm and enjoyed spending more time in the barn than in the house.  Most important to Carol was her family.  Although she never had children, she loved her nieces and nephews as her own.
She is survived by a sister, Brenda Halstrom of Deleon, FL; a nephew, Nate Davis of Pharsalia; nieces, Carrie Davis of Marathon, Melody Doing of Pharsalia, and Carmella Bullick of Pennsylvania.  She also leaves behind her great nephews, Eli Davis of Pharsalia and Jake Doing of Binghamon; great nieces, Gabrielle McIntosh of Marathon, Jessica Doing of North Norwich, and Shailynn Davis of Pharsalia; a sister-in-law, Kathy Davis of Pharsalia; and her lifelong friends, Lisa Stilwell of Norwich and Jackie Jaquay of Sherburne.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Garry Davis, in 2003, and a sister, Grace Senia, in 2016.

Ray was born August 5, 1953, son of the late Gordon L. Preston of South Otselic and is survived by his mother, Doris Kenyon Seames, of Tucson, AZ, as well as brother Bob Preston of PA (wife Lorrie) and sister Janice Haines of CO (husband Bob), niece Nicole (Preston) Sofranko and her four children, and nephews Matthew and Mark Preston, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was a graduate of Otselic Valley Central School and worked as a talented craftsman, painter, and jack of all trades.   Ray was quite a storyteller.  With his rare ability to find humor in every situation, he entertained family and his many friends with his tales.  He made an adventure out of everyday life.  Locals may remember Ray’s deep bass voice belting out “The Auctioneer” song.  He will be truly missed.
The family hopes to host a celebration of life later this year when the pandemic abates.  Donations in Raymond’s memory can be made to the Valley View Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 57, South Otselic, NY 13155.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gloria Crosby Rogers, and their children, Michael (Penny) Rogers of Hickory, MD, Tonia (Jay Bowers) Butler of Homer, and Julie (Doug Moore) Rogers of Cortland.  He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Sue) Rogers of Missouri and Roy (Alyce) Rogers of Oklahoma; sisters, Elaine (James) Aiken of Pitcher and Diane Slade of Groton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
