Obituary Preview: Donald Eugene Henry Jr. affectionately known as “Bookie” was born April 12, 1963. He was 60- years old when he went home to be with the Lord on Thursday January 4, 2024. He was the son of the late Donald & Melissa Henry who preceded him in death. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio and resident of Asheville,
North Carolina for several years, before relocating to Jacksonville, Florida. Donald grew up in Asheville and was educated in the Asheville City Schools. He was a 1981 graduate of Asheville High School. He played football at Shiloh Recreation Center and trained in the amateur Golden Glove Boxing tournaments. After graduation Donald entered the military service, where served in the army for six years before discharging. After his service he then entered the workforce where he worked
for the United States Post Office as a Mail Carrier for 20+ years before retiring. Donald accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church with his grandparents as a child. He would later become a devoted member of It’s All About Jesus
Ministries before his health declined, he could no longer continue to attend in person services. Donald was an avid car guy, he always appreciated the classical cars. He shared his passion and expertise on anything with wheels, explodes, and makes noise. He was the proud owner of a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe RWD. Donald enjoyed traveling the world, but he was always lucky when he was in Las Vegas, Nevada. Donald was introduced to guns at an early age, his grandfather would take him and his siblings hunting with him. He often shared the Gun Range and Jacksonville Jaguar Football Games with
his son Dominque where they shared Father and Son quality time together. Donald loved animals since he was a child, he was the proud owner of Rosa (Dog) and Lucy (Cat) who were his world. They were his traveling buddies and great companions to him, especially have a long
day at work. He looked forwarded to going home to them and being greeted with a smile and hug. He leaves to cherish his memory are his son, Dominque Henry of Jacksonville, FL; his niece-daughter, LaTasha Henry of Greensboro, NC brother, David & Lisa Henry of Fayetteville, NC, Douglas Henry of Cincinnati, Oh, sister, Donna Henry of Rocky Mount, NC, Michelle Jones and Tanya Jones of Cincinnati, Oh; Family friend Valerie and Veronica Josey; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He
was preceded in death by his sisters Deborah Henry and Robin Cameron.
