On October 28, 1953, Harold T. Brown was born to Ernest Brown and Shirley Robinson in the Bronx, NY.  Harold demonstrated his athletic prowess by playing football at Evander Childs High School throughout his teenage years. Upon graduating, he joined the New York Police Auxiliary. This opportunity sparked an interest in civil service and prompted Harold to enter the United States Air Force Security Forces. This action began his career as a public servant.
Harold spent over 40 years in South Carolina’s law enforcement community. His career began with the Orangeburg Police Department. Then, he left the agency to obtain the role of field training officer with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. In his return to Orangeburg, he became a shining example of community-oriented policing by educating the community about the dangers of substance abuse and mentoring the county’s youth with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department. While serving, Harold earned his degree in Organization Management from Vorhees College and a Master's in Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan University. He retired from uniformed law enforcement in the summer of 2003. Soon after, he spent the next 15 years with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. As one of the State’s first law enforcement liaisons, he addressed the needs of the State’s highway safety office and the municipal, county, and State law enforcement to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes. With several roles in between, his final assignment was the SC State House Special Operations Coordinator with the Bureau of Protective Services. In this role, he ensured the safety of South Carolina’s elected officials.
Harold made family a pillar of his existence throughout his life. In September of 1974, Harold met his first wife, Bessie Blacks. This marriage gave him his first son, Robert. In March of 1981, Harold married his wife of 41 years, Arlene Branch. From this marriage, he fathered four sons; Nicholas, Richard, Christopher, and Sean. Harold constantly expressed the joy of being a husband and father throughout his life. He made it known that his family was the pillar of his existence. He loved watching movies and frequent road trips with the family regardless of the distance.
On April 14, 2022, Harold passed away from multiple health complications. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Harold is survived by his wife, Arlene Brown; sons, Robert Brown (Khadija), Richard Brown (Arlene), Christopher Brown (Nakita), and Sean Brown; his grandchildren Jhane Bryant (Cedrick), Xavier Brown, Zuri Brown; his great-grandchild Jaleigh Bryant; his sister Cheryl Rankin; his nephew Sean Rankin; and great-nephew Shakur Rankin. He was preceded in death by his son Nicholas and his parents, Ernest Brown and Shirley Johnson. His legacy will live on through all of the lives he touched.
