Eugene M. Pepe - December 09, 1941 - February 16, 2024

Departed: 02/16/2024 (Mahopac)
Obituary Preview: Eugene M. Pepe, a beacon of friendliness whose smile was as contagious as his optimism, passed away on February 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and service. Born on December 9, 1941, in the Bronx, Eugene's journey was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and the empowerment of those around him.
Eugene's life was a testament to the power of dedication. After earning his Master's degree, he devoted 30 years to the US Army, retiring with the distinguished rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career was characterized not only by his leadership but also by the countless lives he touched with his mentorship and kindness. Mirroring his service, Eugene continued to protect and serve in a civilian capacity as a Risk Control Specialist with Aon Security, where his expertise and foresight safeguarded many. Eugene also served as a volunteer fire firefighter and then a Fire Commissioner for the Hartsdale Fire District.
Beyond his professional achievements, Eugene's family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a loving father to his son Eugene and his daughter in-law Teresa. His grandchildren Eugenio, Vincent, and Genesis knew him as a source of boundless love and encouragement, and his “Brother in Arms” Alfredo that was a source of encouragement, flan and scones. Eugene was the cherished son of the late Vincent and Hannah (Clark) Pepe, and he carried their legacy of love and resilience throughout his life. He also reconnected with his sister Linda after many years. He is also survived by long time friend Clare, where they become regulars at the diner.
Eugene's interests reflected his outgoing personality; he was always the first to compliment friends, family, and even a stranger with “You have a great smile”. He believed in the power of a simple act of kindness to change someone's day.
As Alzheimer's gradually took its toll, Eugene faced the challenges with grace and dignity. Despite the hardships, he continued to display many moments of warmth, humor, and affection, touching the lives of all who knew him. His unwavering spirit and resilience in the face of adversity inspired many, as he continued to live life to the fullest. He liked going to church, walking, shopping, watching TV, playing games and especially eating out. His daily routine involved the Koehler Center Adult Day Program where he was more a “mayor” than a participant, and never met a cookie he didn’t like.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Waterview Hills staff who provided the most compassionate care to Eugene during those last months of battling Alzheimer’s.  Though Alzheimer's may have dimmed his memories, Eugene’s legacy of love and resilience will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. May Eugene rest in peace, finally free from the grasp of this cruel disease, and in the arms of Jesus, who he gave his life to.
Due to the different time of interment, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Eugene’s name to https://mybrothervinny.org, an organization that assists Veterans.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Saturday, February 24th from 11AM-1:30PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. Robert E. Koch - January 16, 1941 - February 13, 2024

Departed: 02/13/2024 (Mahopac)
Obituary Preview: Robert E. Koch (Bob, Rob) of Somers, NY passed away on Tuesday, February 13th at the age of 83. He was born in the Bronx to Howard and Christina (Kelley) Koch in 1941 and was later joined by younger brother Howie.
Robert met his true love Margaret (Lorigan) through their mutual friends, the Klatts at the Jersey Shore. Robert went down for the weekend, stayed the whole summer and found his soulmate. They were married in 1965, lived in the Bronx until 1972 when they moved to the Village (Continental that is) in Garrison to raise their three children. They lived there for 41 years while Rob became the consummate neighbor, always willing to lend (or borrow) a hand, power tool or advice about the latest home project. Everyone could always count on Bob Koch.
Bob Koch worked for Royal Insurance for over 30 years making many lifelong friends with his humorous anecdotes. His passion, persistence and integrity was always evident in his work. He retired from Royal in 1998 before continuing his insurance career for 5 more years in Lower Manhattan. He was working on Water St. during 9/11. While his family worried for his safety, Robert was walking up to St. Vincent’s Hospital to donate blood. That’s the type of man Bob Koch was.
Robert’s greatest role was being a family man. He was a devoted, sometimes maddening, but always loving husband. He was a proud and caring father, helping with school projects and teaching important life skills like how to repair a car or maintain a home without ever reading the manual. He later enjoyed spending time with his grandkids capturing precious moments with one of his many cameras. He also took care of his grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles. He was well-loved by his in-laws, family friends, nephews and his many, many favorite nieces.
Bob Koch’s kindness and ability to connect with people remained with him all the way to end. His infectious laugh and expressive eyes were still with him thanks to his angels at Putnam Ridge, especially Damiana, Daniel, Harry and Lori.
Robert is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughter Kelly Ann Aframian (Isaac) and sons Robert (Rebecca), Kevin (Elexis), brother Howie (Claudia) and his grandchildren Jacob, Sarah, Quinn, Gracie and Emma.
Everyone that knew Robert, has a story. We want to hear your Bob Koch stories as we celebrate his life. Visiting will be held on Monday, February 19 from 1-3 pm and 5:30-8 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, Mahopac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 20 at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, Somers with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. For those unable to make it, please share your favorite stories with a family member or anyone for that matter. Because that’s what Bob Koch would do. Family and friends are making donations in memory of Robert to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan Residence, 2999 Schurz Ave., Bronx, NY 10465-3826 www.littlesistersofthepoorbronx.org
