Msgr Conahan was born in Chester, PA son of the late Joseph H and Mary (Kelly) Conahan. His mother died the day of his birth, and thus he was raised by his aunt and uncle, the late Edna (Hoffmayer) and John L Kelly. Monsignor always referred to his Aunt Eddie as his mother, and his three cousins, the late Jack (Sherry), Edward (Debra), and Tom (Judy) Kelly as his brothers. The sons and daughters of his cousins were his nieces and nephews who he loved very much, including the late Matthew Kelly.
Monsignor graduated from Saint James High School in Chester in 1953 and entered Saint Charles Seminary immediately after graduation. He was ordained by Archbishop John Krol on May 19, 1962. His first assignment was as an assistant pastor at St. Timothy Parish in Northeast Philadelphia. He joined the faculty of Cardinal O’Hara High School in 1964 and remained there until 1976. At O’Hara, he filled many roles – French Teacher, Language Department Head, Athletic Director, Music Director, and Activities Director. He often referred to his years at O’Hara as “Camelot,” where many lifelong friendships were forged. After O’Hara, Cardinal Krol appointed him as the 2nd Principal of Archbishop Ryan High School for Girls. He remained at Ryan for 12 years and had many fond memories of his time there.
In 1988, Monsignor was appointed by Cardinal Krol as pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jenkintown. He served 23 years as pastor, leaving a legacy of accomplishments, too many to mention. What needs to be mentioned is that he will always be remembered by his devotion to the Blessed Mother, his gentle demeanor, his sense of humor, and most of all his kindness.
After retirement and until 3 years ago, he moved to the Jersey Shore and served as a weekend assistant at Resurrection Parish in Marmora, again forming some very special friendships.

Frank Joseph Szalwinski - September 07, 1940 - April 05, 2024

Departed: 04/05/2024 (Jenkintown)
Obituary Preview: Frank Joseph Szalwinski passed away on April 5, 2024, not far from his home in Wyncote. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; his siblings Stephen (Joan-Ann), Freda Adiletto, Alice Szalwinska, and Joseph; his children Francis (“Jeff”) (Juliana), Alicia Davis (Brett), Matthew (Michelle), Mary Kate Nolen (Jim), Christopher, and Ann O’Brien (Shawn); his grandchildren William, Jonathan, Molly, Thomas, Joseph, Gwendolyn, Christina, Jimmy, Christian, Matthew, and Evelyn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Helen, and his siblings, infant Alfred, Helen Tidd, and Tina Webb. A proud Philadelphian, Frank was born in Fishtown, and was baptized at Saint Laurentius Parish and later attended Saint Laurentius Elementary School. His loving, boisterous, faithful family was Frank’s foundation, and he relished his role as one of the eldest children. When he graduated elementary school, he was slated to go to North Catholic High School, but North Catholic was at capacity, so he instead attended West Catholic High School and he represented the West Catholic “Burrs” with élan. He was a semi regular on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, where he went by his nom-de dance, “Frankie Randazzo.”
Frank began working shortly after graduating from West Catholic, and it was at his office that he met the love of his life, Beverly. As they married and started a family, he pursued his college degree attending night school after work at LaSalle University. He was only 3 credits away from graduating when his ever-expanding family made it too challenging to continue. Frank was an avid reader of fiction, non-fiction, newspapers, and magazines. Though not a historian by profession, his knowledge of U.S. and World History was without peer.
A dear and kind father, Frank’s children always had his unfailing love and support. From help with school projects, to coaching their baseball, softball and football teams, to teaching them how to drive, his children knew that they could always count on their dad. A man of great faith, Frank served his Church Community as a Coordinator of the Catholic Charities Appeal at Immaculate Conception Parish in Jenkintown, working with his and Beverly’s beloved friend Monsignor William Flatley, and later as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint James Parish in Elkins Park.
As a passionate fan of Philadelphia Sports, Frank loved cheering on his teams, and would welcome company while watching, though for big games he preferred to be in his own chair in front of his own tv to best provide the moral support the players needed from him. He greatly enjoyed the post-season runs by the Phillies these past two years, and delighted in the Eagles winning Super Bowl LVII. Most recently, he was enjoying watching his grandson’s college team, NC State, make a Cinderella run in March Madness.
When the weather cooperated, and even when it didn’t, Frank could be found in his garden, which he nurtured and tended to with pleasure. His veggies would be delivered to his children and grandchildren in brown paper sacks, or make their way into one of his delicious stews or soups. His garden was graced by a statue of Saint Francis of Assisi, welcoming the small animals, and Frank did indeed love seeing the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and butterflies enjoy his garden. His largesse did not, however, extend to groundhogs, with whom his annual battles were the stuff of legend.
It is impossible to overstate Frank’s love for his family. His wife of 61 years was his constant, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was equally comfortable cheering them on at a baseball game, or clapping respectfully at a ballet recital (often offering to wear his “four-four”, since he was too large for a tutu). He would share news of his children and grandchildren eagerly, and was just so proud of all of them. He would read jokes in Reader’s Digest, and then call them all in turn to share, usually adding in unnecessary details to prolong the joy (or pain) of the joke. One could always tell when Dad was calling with a joke as you could hear the laughter in his voice as soon as you answered the phone.
Words can’t express how bereft we, his family, are at his loss. He was a most wonderful man, and we will miss him endlessly and love him ceaselessly, because we know that love never dies.

George Allan Dash, III - May 26, 1939 - November 30, 2023

Departed: 11/30/2023 (Jenkintown)
Obituary Preview: George Allan Dash, III resident of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA passed away on November 30, 2023 at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Dash, the son of the late George Allan Dash, Jr., and Ruth Marks Dash, was born, raised and spent most of his life in Philadelphia and its suburbs. He graduated from the William Penn Charter School and the University of Pennsylvania; following the latter, he attended an advertising and journalism school in preparation for a career in marketing communications.
Over the years, Mr. Dash created advertisements, radio and television commercials, press releases and newsletters for a number of Philadelphia area advertising and public relations firms. His favorite job was at N. W. Ayer & Son, the oldest agency in America, where he created ads for national accounts such as TV Guide, The U.S. Army Recruiting Command and Bell Telephone.
While marketing communication was his livelihood, music – especially choral music -was Mr. Dash’s love. He sang in the University of Pennsylvania glee club, then went on to sing in various choirs and choruses, and was the co-founder of the Fenimore Chorale, a semi-professional group. When he wasn’t singing, he was writing and arranging vocal music, or listening to his huge collection of recorded choral music. A member of the University Glee Club of Philadelphia, he was its 1999-2000 president.
In 1977, Mr. Dash married Georgia (Gigi) R. Phelps, a nurse who specialized in hospital infection control and prevention. Through the years, her expertise became more and more recognized, until, in 2002, she was elected the president of APIC, her professional association. When she retired in 2016 as Director of Infection Prevention for the Cape Cod Healthcare System, APIC presented her with its highest award.
The Dashes traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Far East, but were anglophiles at heart. In 1983 they bought a thatched cottage built in 1675 in a small Dorset village. Every year they vacationed at the cottage; in 1990 they moved to England to live and work for a year. They always felt that the friendships they made and the experiences they had in England enriched their lives immeasurably.
Mr. Dash leaves behind his beloved Gigi and his offspring from a prior marriage: Geoffrey Clayton Dash and Nancy Dash, as well as three grandsons: Geoffrey, Griffon and Corson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception BVM Church, 604 West Ave., in Jenkintown PA 19046 on Wednesday December 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM. Madeleine S. Bowen - December 28, 1927 - November 29, 2023

Departed: 11/29/2023 (Jenkintown)
Obituary Preview: Madeleine S. Bowen (December 28, 1927 - November 29, 2023)
Madeleine S. Bowen, of Warminster, PA (formerly Willow Grove) passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95.
Madeleine (Aunt Mad, Auntie Mame, Precious) was a bright, curious, and engaged woman until the end, a loving mother and grandmom, early foodie, and zealous traveler.
Madeleine had a zest for life and a sharp intellect that never left her, even in her last years. She read the newspaper religiously and enjoyed films, theater, food and wine, and the fine arts — both at local landmarks like the Barnes and the Philadelphia Museum of Art and at museums around the world, such as the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.
Madeleine was an enthusiastic Francophile who enjoyed the art, food, culture, and language of her mother’s homeland. She traveled there to connect with family, cooked dishes she learned from Jacques Pepin and Julia Child, and founded the French Club at Ann’s Choice as well as the much-loved Wine and Cheese party.
A gracious hostess, Madeleine was a true foodie before the term existed, turning out feasts from her small galley kitchen in Willow Grove. She crafted clambakes and pig roasts at the Jersey Shore and was always game for happy hour clams and oysters.
An adventurer, Madeleine went on Safari in Africa, thrilled at the whirling dervishes in Turkey, explored the Greek isles, and ate her way through Europe, as well as the U.S. and Canada. She loved nothing more than soaking up the sun on a Caribbean island or Mexican beach. A fun-loving risk taker, trouble seemed to follow her wherever she went, including a run in with a dog on the beach during her first hour in St. Croix. Madeleine went to the Germantown School of Nursing where she became a RN. She met her lifelong friend, Gloria, on her first assignment in the early 1950s as a visiting nurse for new mothers. She later worked at Holy Redeemer hospital. After her husband died, she raised four children and went to Temple to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She went on to spend the rest of her career working for the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an inspector of nursing homes and hospitals, where she gained the well-earned nickname “Columbo.”
An avid gardener, Madeleine created an oasis of greenery on her patio in Ann’s Choice where she often entertained friends and family. Family, and her roles as a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt, were most important to her. She was loved by friends and family and will be greatly missed.
Madeleine was the third of three daughters to Juliette and Frank Serpentino. She grew up in Jenkintown and Elkins Park, PA. Madeleine married Bill Bowen (deceased 1966) and had two boys, the late Frank (Janet) and the late John (Susan Corley), and two girls, Roberta (Szyper) and Nina. She is survived by seven grandchildren; Amber, Corley, John, Madon, Harley, Rachel, Marguerite and also six great grandchildren, John, Logan, Emily, Allison, James, and Eli. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Tuesday, December 5th from 10-11 am followed by her funeral mass at 11 am, both at Nativity of Our Lord church, 605 West Street Rd. Warminster, PA 18974. Interment is at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Taormina’s restaurant, 880 Jacksonville Road, Ivyland at 1:30 pm. Services entrusted to the Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home, Jenkintown, PA. Condolences: www.McGoldrickFH.com
