Obituary Preview: Mr. Carl Judson Crews, 80, of Sylvania passed early Monday Morning, May 6, 2024 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 9, 1943 in Sylvania, GA to George and Eva Scott Crews. He spent his career in food service retail sales and retired as manager of Piggly Wiggly in Charleston, SC. He was a member of the Middleground Baptist Church, and had served in various capacities and committees when his health permitted, and served faithfully for over fifty years as a Mason and Shriner. He loved horses and bulldogs and had raised both on Crews Farm in Screven County. He and his wife were also avid travelers, he always enjoyed the scenery out west. Most important of all, he was a loving husband and Papa.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eugene Crews.

He is survived by his wife, Judie Lee Crews, children, Tara (Jason) DeJesus, Caleb Crews, Megan (Brandon) Roach, stepchildren, David Creighton, Lee (Laurie) McKinney, and Julie (Jeff) Moeller, eight grandchildren, brothers, Harold Crews and Tommy Crews, and his sisters, Shirley Hill and Debbie Rooker.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2024 at the Middleground Baptist Church in Sylvania at 2:00pm with Rev. Dr. Charlie Cooper and Rev. Pete Wall officiating. Visitation will be held for an hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at the North Newington Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Troy Bohannon, Gary Crews, Chuck Kite, David McKinney, Mark Bazemore, and Joe Cicerella.

Honorary pallbearers will be fellow Sunday School Class members, Redo Brinson, T.W. Evans, and Brian Bohannon.

Obituary Preview: Guy Robeson Bullock, formerly of Raeford, NC, 80, passed away on May 3, 2024 at his residence with his family by his side.

Guy was born in Hoke County, North Carolina on November 21, 1943. He was a graduate of the Hoke County High Class of 1963. He began his career with Canal Wood, where he would become an area manager. He worked for Canal Wood for over 30 years. In 1972 Guy moved to Sylvania, GA to purchase timber for Canal Wood. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Guy enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything. He extended that love to everyone he met and insisted on feeding friends from the many cookouts he and his family hosted. Guy enjoyed farming, taking fishing trips to Alaska with his sons and friends. He also liked to attend yard sales and looking at antiques. He also enjoyed going to the FFA annual pheasant hunts with his son and granddaughter, as well as socializing with many friends. In addition to working for Canal Wood he worked many years with Sylvania Auction Company. Guy was also co-owner with his son of Bullock’s Lawn Care and a volunteer for the Cooperville Fire Department.

Guy is preceded in death by his parents, Guy R. Bullock, Sr. and Allene Millikin Bullock of Raeford, NC.

Those who will cherish his memory include his loving wife of 48 years, Jean Bullock; sons, Steven (Megan) Bullock and Andy (Chrissie) Bullock; daughter, Kim Bullock; granddaughters Emilie Bullock, Brooklyn Bullock, Chasity Bullock, and Mellie Kitchens; a sister, Magina Bullock; and a furry rescue pet, Jake.

Obituary Preview: James William “Jim” Adams, 82, of Sylvania, GA passed Thursday afternoon, April 11, 2024 at the Optim Medical Center Screven, surrounded by his family.Jim was born on the family farm in Wayne County, Tennessee on January 9, 1942 to Ernest Floyd and Sula Mae Carden Adams, Jim reflected they were the most honest and hard working people he had ever known. Upon graduation from high school, he volunteered for the draft and entered the US Army. Appointments while on active duty included Fort Hood, Texas and Gelenhausen, Germany. Upon discharge from active duty he served two years as an active reservist and lastly 2 years as inactive reservist in Savannah, GA. While in Savannah, he was hired by the Savannah Bank and Trust and filled many roles, before being promoted branch manager and then transferred to Sylvania, GA as President of Bank of Screven. While in Sylvania, he accepted job of President of a locally owned and independent bank Farmers and Merchants Bank, where he would serve the citizens of the community until his retirement at the age of 75, and served on the Board of Directors until his death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania, member and past president of the Sylvania Rotary Club, and former member of the Jaycees Club of Savannah, Screven County Hospital Board, Ogeechee Technical College Board of Directors, and Georgia Bankers Association. He was a graduate of the Georgia Banking School of UGA and Banking School of LSU. And was the recipient of the 2004 Rotary Citizen of the Year, Ogeechee Technical Colleges Leadership Award, and in 2017 the Community Bankers Association of Georgia Lifetime Service Award . He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lou Nelle Adams Dean and brother, Amos Floyd Adams.Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eva Evelyn Woods Adams of Sylvania; two sons, James Michael Adams and Christopher Brent Adams, both of Savannah, GA; and sisters-in-law, Jane Carolyn Dessellier of Coon Rapids, MN and Judy Adams of Waynesboro, TN; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 2:00pm in the First Baptist Church of Sylvania with Rev. He worked for Delta Airlines until 1976 when he began work with Georgia Power in Eatonton, and in 1987 he relocated to work for a Southern Company at Plant Vogtle. He enjoyed hunting with his family on his son’s land and golfing with his good friend, Ken Wagers. Much like his father, Dave had a garden that he was always tending to. In his 20s, he enjoyed piloting his own plane. He loved watching NASCAR and UGA football, and especially the time spent taking his wife, children, and grandchildren on family vacations. He was a member of the Believers Church of Sylvania. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Terri Doss, his children, Davey (Dana) Doss, Ali (Jeremy) Taylor, and Katherine “Kit” (Donny) Thompson, all of Sylvania, a brother, Ken Marshall (Donna) Doss of Brunswick, grandchildren, Bo Doss, Lilly Doss, Kennedi Taylor, Brody Taylor, Tyler Thompson, Cody Thompson, and Riley Thompson, with one great-grandchild on the way. He was an avid horseman, a member of the Screven County Riding Club, and used to barrel race and had even rodeoed for a short stint. Apache was his favorite horse who was with Don for thirty years. In his free time he enjoyed watching westerns and Sci-Fi. He started his career with Mr. W.E. Pace at the Sylvania Stockyard, and had worked at Torrington Co., Fort Howard, and for Georgia Lawn Care.
