Ricky M. Leonhardt - August 03, 1957 - February 23, 2024

Departed: 02/23/2024 (Bedford)
Obituary Preview: Surrounded by his family, Ricky went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 23, 2024. Ricky leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 29 years, Stacy (Zahler) and son Chase.
Ricky grew up in Walton Hills, the youngest child of Donald and Johann Leonhardt. Ricky had a natural knack for all things automotive. From tinkering in the garage to diagnosing and fixing mechanical issues he was always hands on with his cars. He restored many vehicles from the frame up and enjoyed time spent in the garage usually accompanied by his many friends. Thanks to his father, Chase developed a love for all things motorized including dirt bikes, ATV's, golf carts and sports cars. Their love for cars created countless memories they shared feeling the power and freedom that being on the open road together can bring.
Ricky also loved to entertain and it wasn't just about cooking food; it was about bringing people together. He could turn any gathering into a feast. He would spend hours tending to the grill, making sure everyone had their fill of food and that no one left hungry. He was often planning Sunday dinner early in the week bringing many of his family recipes into rotation for his family and friends.

Averil E McClelland - February 16, 1936 - February 17, 2024

Departed: 02/17/2024 (Bedford)
Obituary Preview: It is with a broken heart that I share the news that our mother, Dr. Averil Young Evans McClelland passed away Saturday February 17, 2024, the day after her 88th birthday.  Although all moms may be special, for us none can compare. She was unconditional love and support at its very best, a role model for all her family as well as friends and colleagues. In this family, she was the ever-present voice of calm and reason with no judgement. She was like the lighthouse that kept us off the rocks when life tossed us around and the first person to proudly acknowledge our accomplishments and share in our joys. She gave the warmest hugs, the best practical advice and managed to raise three children who all thought they were her favorite! (which in fact we all were!) She always thought of us before herself. You never outgrow the need for your mom. Today we put out into the universe how very much we will continue to love her..... and how she will continue to guide us and comfort us because we will hear her voice and feel her love as we continue on our own journey. She was someone who was always first to champion others, but quite humble about the many impressive things she accomplished throughout her life. She graduated from Hiram College with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, married Bob and had the three of us. Even then she was involved in our schools, helping to start many innovative programs and eventually sat on the Bedford School Board. Inspired to do more she went back to school earning her Masters in Cultural Foundations of Education, was a graduate assistant and coordinator of the Educational Studies Program. She went on to earn her PhD in Cultural Foundations of Education, was hired as an Assoc. Professor and continued on at Kent State until her retirement when she became an Assoc. Professor Emerita. She was also a published author in her field and as recently as Fall 2023 was editing the 11th edition of her co-authored book -"Human Diversity in Education: An Intercultural Approach."
She also worked with The First Ladies Library in Canton to develop and make available to educators, curricula on all of America's First Ladies.
She was an active member of her church, serving on many committees, as moderator and was a member of the church choir and bells and chimes choirs as well.  She was a life-long learner and was reading and writing and sharing ideas all the way to the end. She was an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to come into her orbit. She will be missed greatly, not just by her family, but by every life she touched along her journey.
Dr. Averil Young Evans McClelland born February 16, 1936 passed away Saturday February 17, 2024 at Laurel Lake Hospice in Hudson, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Florence (Linek)and Charles E. Evans Jr. She is pre-deceased by her husband Robert. She is survived by her brother Charles E. Evans III and her three children - Megan Kaplar and her husband David, Robert McClelland and David McClelland and his wife Melissa. She was also the grandmother to Melissa, Matthew, Robbie, Olivia, Morgan and Andrew and great grandmother to Jack and Henry.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Good Shepard Christian Church, 9571 Shepard Road, Macedonia OH 44056. We ask that in lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions be given to Good Shepard Church as she was a long-standing and active member whose church meant the world to her.
