Janelle Francine Jernigan - October 30, 1953 - April 29, 2024

Departed: 04/29/2024 (Moore)
Obituary Preview: On Monday, April 29, 2024, Janelle Jernigan of Norman, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord at the age of 70. Born on October 30, 1953, Janelle Francine Jernigan was the daughter of Jack and Vivian (Bowie) Jernigan, both of whom have preceded her in death. Janelle leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her son, Josh Jernigan of Moore, Oklahoma; brothers Charles “Chuck” Jernigan and his wife Barbara of Edmond, Oklahoma, and John Jernigan and wife Marsha of San Antonio, Texas; as well as her longtime best friend, Teresa Cleveland of Moore, Oklahoma, her dear friend Amanda Ratliff, and many other loving family members and friends.
As a 1971 graduate of Memorial High School in Tulsa, Janelle took her education quite seriously. Not only was she a terrific student in her youth, but she also excelled athletically at both field hockey and badminton, both of which she lettered in during her time at Oklahoma State University. After graduating from OSU with a degree in education, she joined the workforce, fully dedicating herself to her career at Reliant Living Centers of Oklahoma.
Going from the “shop floor to the top floor” Janelle spent 47 years at Reliant Living, with the last twenty years as their beloved Director – and without once considering retirement. Sincere, straightforward, kind, and loving, Janelle had the heart and soul of a true caretaker. Never shy to speak her mind, her forthright, direct nature endeared her to the people she met and worked with. For several decades, Janelle was an active, devoted member of the Westmoore Community Church. She adored Jesus, loved Bible study, and with her love of little ones, especially enjoyed taking care of the babies in the nursery.
Janelle worked incredibly hard, but that never stopped her from playing hard, too. In her free time, she enjoyed watching OSU sports and going to Thunder basketball games with her son. Vacationing was another favorite pastime, and along with her brother John, traveled all over the globe. She especially loved visiting beachy destinations where she enjoyed swimming and soaking in the sun. On their travels, Janelle and John always made it a point to stop in to see their brother, Chuck. Family was certainly what meant the most to Janelle. It was the people she loved, and of course her many canine companions over the years, that ultimately brought her the most joy. She especially looked forward to the holidays when everyone could be together to enjoy her fabulous homemade Christmas candy.
As we reflect upon the life of Janelle Francine Jernigan, let us remember her for her strength of character, her passionate, honest nature, and most importantly, the unwavering and unconditional love she shared with the people who meant the most to her. Janelle was a loving daughter, mother, and sister, and a loyal friend to many. She will be deeply missed.

James Ellis Dawson - June 02, 1954 - April 28, 2024

Departed: 04/28/2024 (Moore)
Obituary Preview: James Ellis Dawson (Jim), loving father, grandpa and friend, went to Heaven April 28, 2024 in Harrah, OK.
Jim was the youngest of the four children of Rockleigh and Ellen Dawson, born June 2, 1954.  He was a member of the Chickasaw Nation and very proud of his family heritage.   He graduated from Midwest City High School and was a proud Bomber.  In 1978, he married his former wife, Teresa Dawson, who he shared his three daughters with: Lindsay Dawson, Jamie Judd and Abby Malchi.  He took pride in all his jobs over the years, from working at his parent’s family owned “Dawson’s Furniture Store” in Midwest City, to his sales jobs at US Foods and Ben E. Keith, that eventually opened another door in the food industry of owning his own restaurant in Choctaw, a dream he had for years, “Dawson’s Restaurant”.  Jim also enjoyed working with his dear friend Jim Parks at Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
Jim loved his girls.  When they were little, he enjoyed taking them to the lake and skiing, he also loved their trips to Little Sahara.  He was extremely adventurous, driving dune buggies up the highest mountains he could find.  You could always find him on the sidelines of any of his girls' games, whether coaching or spectating, he was there, hollering (sometimes at umpires or refs!)  and taking pride in knowing his girls’ teams were always the best.
Believe it or not, every year, the day after Thanksgiving, Jim would turn into Clark Griswold.  He and Teresa always made sure Christmas was the most magical time at their house for their girls.  He also had a love for music he instilled in his girls as well.  Some of his absolute favorites were George Strait, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, we could go on and on.  Many of these artists songs are anthems from the girls’ childhoods and could likely be heard blaring at one of the Dawson’s 4th of July parties, or on his porch at the lake.  He had a love for Nascar and years ago started collecting Hot Wheel Nascar mini’s.  They fill his garage on the wall and if you had asked him, he could probably tell you when he purchased or was gifted each car.  He was an avid Sooners fan, through all the highs and lows.  If it was a Saturday in the Fall and the Sooners were playing, we knew to be expecting our weekly “BOOMER!” text from dad.
Jim had a passion for cooking and smoking meat.  His most requested recipe was probably his famous chili or BBQ sauce.  He loved to participate in Harrah’s Pigs in the Park.  He enjoyed cooking for friends, family, and people in his community.  He often smoked BBQ for the Harrah City staff and Harrah Fire Department to show his appreciation for them and his support for all they do.
Jim felt at home tinkering around in the garage and making sure his yard was pristine. When his girls were close to getting their drivers licenses, his famous words were “you’ve gotta’ conquer the lawnmower first.”   If you couldn’t find Jim, he was likely to be found out working in his shop on his next new project.  There wasn’t a mechanical issue or problem he couldn’t fix – “This ain’t my first rodeo,” as he would say!  With hard work and that mindset, he’d get anything done.   Jim showed his love for others through his actions.  If you called, he was there to help.  He never met a stranger.  If he called you a friend, you could count on him for anything.  His love of animals led him to rescue his two dogs he loved dearly, Coco and Lucky.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Rockleigh S. Dawson and his mother, Ellen S. Dawson; and his brother Robert R. Dawson.
Jim is survived by his three daughters he shared with his former wife of 26 years, Teresa Dawson:  Lindsay Dawson of Moore, Jamie Judd of Tulsa, and Abby Malchi and husband Grant, of Tulsa; His five amazing grandchildren, Dawson, Collins  and Fitz Judd;  and Blake and Paige Malchi; Longtime Companion, Bernadette Klimkowski, Harrah, OK; Brother, Rockleigh Dawson Jr. and wife Polly, Houston, TX; Sister Mary Cook, Mesquite, TX; Cousin Diane Moentish, OKC, OK;  along with many loved nephews, nieces and amazing friends.
He was always the coolest guy in the room.  People were drawn to him.  He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
No services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.

Eldon "Pete" R. Perieda - November 09, 1947 - April 27, 2024

Departed: 04/27/2024 (Moore)
Obituary Preview: On April 27, 2024, treasured patriarch of the Perieda family, Eldon “Pete” Ramon Perieda, was called to his new Home in Heaven at the age of 76. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 9, 1947, he was the son of Frank and Beatrice Perieda. While a loss of this magnitude is staggeringly painful, the Perieda family finds great comfort in the knowledge that Pete is now reunited with his cherished wife, Chong Cha Perieda, who preceded him in death on October 3, 2020.
After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1966, he joined the U.S. Army where he was an auto mechanic who specialized in motor maintenance during the Vietnam conflict. He earned many awards and ribbons including the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), Army Good Conduct Medal (AGCM), and the Expert Marksmanship Badge with Rifle Bar. After his time in the military, Pete began focusing on what mattered most – his family.
Affectionately called “Poppy Pete” by most, Pete was the epitome of a strong family leader and by all accounts, one of the hardest working guys you’d ever meet. For most of his career he worked at and managed the Coit’s Root Beer Drive-In in Oklahoma City. Alongside his over 40-year career at Coit’s, he operated a Christmas tree lot for many years, and lovingly coached each generation of his family in various sports. With 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, he most certainly had his hands full with this undertaking, but Poppy Pete adored the little ones in his life, loved staying busy, and wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Faith and family were truly his everything. He was a longtime member of Cross Church in Norman. As a huge fan of their worship team, Pete enjoyed attending services, and more so, loved getting the opportunity to see his nephew thrive doing what he loves – preaching the Word of God. Known for his loving soul and his enormously kind and compassionate heart, when Pete loved, he loved BIG. He was the person to call when you needed an extra hand, and the guy you’d call up on the phone when you simply wanted to talk about life for hours. He was always happiest when he was surrounded by the people he cared about and especially looked forward to holiday gatherings and birthday parties. One of the things his family looked forward to the most were his trademark 6:00am birthday calls. As soon as a loved one picked up the phone, Pete would immediately and enthusiastically start singing “Happy Birthday To You!” He took immense pride in always being the first to wish someone a happy birthday.
The lake was truly his second home, his oasis. A perfect day for Pete would be spent at the lake with a cold Bud Light in his hand, and his family by his side. He loved John Wayne movies, Rock and Roll, anything and everything Elvis, and of course, had a lifelong affinity for sports. Pete was a Sooners football superfan, and in the last couple of years, really grew to love watching Thunder basketball. He also enjoyed going to garage sales and collecting. Though many things brought him great happiness, Pete found the most joy in sharing moments and creating memories with the people he loved.
As we honor the legacy of Pete Perieda, let us remember him for his wonderful humor, his strength, loyalty, and most of all, the unwavering devotion he had for his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, an incredible grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend to so many. His memory will live forever in our hearts.
Pete leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his sons, Woo Perieda and wife Kendra Neuendorff of Oklahoma City, OK, Steve Perieda and wife Destani LeMasters of Eufaula, OK, and Anthony Perieda of Tulsa, OK; his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Linda Moberly, Karen Raper, and Teresa Perieda, along with many more loving family and friends.

A well-known and highly respected person in his community, he faithfully and enthusiastically taught Bible classes at First Moore Baptist Church for over 30 years. His love of Bible study and teaching were evident to all who enjoyed his classes. Over many years of church membership, he served in many leadership capacities including leadership committees and Deacon. In addition to being quite active at church, he also regularly volunteered for Gideons International. After his retirement, Bill began to focus solely on his family, his church family at First Moore Baptist, and his personal interests and passions. If he wasn’t watching an OU football game, you’d likely find William in the middle of one of his many woodworking projects, fine-tuning one of his handmade ink pens, or researching his many interests. There was no subject Bill could not learn more about!
Though his hobbies brought him immense joy, it was ultimately his family that meant the most to him. His role as a husband and father was paramount, and he took infinite pride in his children and grandchildren’s development and achievements. As we honor the memory of Bill, we are reminded of the lasting impact he leaves on the hearts of his family and friends — a legacy of faith, strength, and genuine devotion. His memory will live forever in our hearts.

William Roscoe Poe Jr. - July 02, 1960 - April 22, 2024

Departed: 04/22/2024 (Moore)
Obituary Preview: It is with tremendous grief and a lifetime of fond memories that we announce the death of William “Bill” Roscoe Poe Jr., who passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 22, 2024, at the age of 63. Born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, on July 2, 1960, he was the son of William Roscoe Poe Sr. and Gloria (Cartwright) Poe.
Bill was the longtime co-owner and operator of the Oklahoma City based family-owned business, A&A Auto Parts, Sales, and Salvage. He loved attending car auctions, and especially looked forward to the Mecum auctions. He enjoyed traveling, and his constant search for cars and auto parts eventually took him to every state in the United States, with the exception of Hawaii.
Affectionately called a “clean freak” by those closest to him, Bill was a tidy person from the time he was a very young man. He always kept A&A thoroughly organized and clean, despite being challenged from time to time by his well-known color blindness. He loved spending time at the shop, and even after he retired, drove by to check on it every day.
You could often find Bill at the casino, where he loved to play the Liberty 7’s slots, or working on his “ride”, his ’87 Monte Carlo. He also loved to watch boxing in his free time, and especially enjoyed any fight featuring Oscar de la Hoya. He often spoke about the “Battle of the Ages”, considering the 1991 fight between George Foreman and Evander Holyfield one of the greatest he ever witnessed. He simply loved a good story, no matter the context, and as such, Bill never missed an episode of General Hospital and was not at all shy about his love for romantic comedies.
Ultimately, it was his helpful nature that endeared him most to his family and friends. His kindness and generosity positively impacted everyone fortunate enough to know him, and any time someone in his life needed some help, he was there right away to lend a hand. As we honor the memory of Bill Poe, we are reminded of the immeasurable affect he leaves on the hearts of his family and friends, a legacy of love that will forever endure. He will be greatly missed.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Gloria and Roscoe Poe, and his daughter, Tabatha Roberts.
Bill leaves his wife, Barbara Poe to cherish his memory; along with his daughters, Penny Stephens, and Amanda Poe; grandchildren Aaron Mosher, Billy Roberts, Brianna Roberts, and Millie Poe; great-granddaughter Skyler Linnell; his brother, Gary Cartwright and wife Rita, and sisters Linda Cartwright, Kim Ream, Wanda Howell, and Diane Popolvich. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of loving nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog and loyal companion, Roxy.
Those attending his service are encouraged to show up in their own classic and vintage rides and wear “A&A blue” to honor Bill’s memory.

Dennis Lyons - November 30, 1940 - April 21, 2024

Departed: 04/21/2024 (Moore)
Obituary Preview: Dennis Eugene Lyons, 83, of Oklahoma City, OK passed away April 21, 2024.  He was born November 30, 1940, to Arvel and Lorene Lyons in Oklahoma City.
Dennis was a sweet, fun, ornery man, and a great friend to everyone he met.  He was a beloved husband and father.  He was more than a father; he was a DADDY!  It takes a special person to be a Daddy, and he was so very special.  His joy was taking care of his wife and two girls.
Dennis graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1958 and was a very proud Redskin. He went through the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Eagle Scouts.  He spent a year playing football and attending classes at Kansas University.  He came back to Oklahoma and married Linda Leah Seabolt-Lyons on September 10, 1960.  They were both 19.  Dennis joined the Army National Guard and served 6 years.  He attained the rank of Sergeant as a Military Policeman.  He served as a squad leader within the 745th MP Co based out of Oklahoma City.  His training was in Fort Gordon, Georgia.  He received an Honorable Discharge at the end of his contract.  He then started working at Oklahoma Natural Gas and he worked there until he was 55.  He also did land surveying drafting. After he retired from ONG, he continued doing the surveying and drafting for Hale’s Surveying Company.  He and mom wanted us girls to have our mom at home with us and that helped them do that and we are forever grateful for that.
Dennis was very athletic growing up.  He played baseball through junior high and then in high school he started football.  He was good at both sports.  His senior year in high school the football team won the state championship.  He was nicknamed Lil’ Hog in his younger years due to his shorter stature and his strength, the team changed it to Hog in High School because he could plow any player down.  He enjoyed many sports throughout his life including a bowling team, golfing, football, softball, baseball and even racket ball.
Dennis has been a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church of Oklahoma City since junior high and that is when he accepted Christ as his Savior.  He attended there until his health wouldn’t allow it.  It was in Junior High where he met a beautiful blonde girl named Linda Seabolt, whom he liked from the start.  They became quick friends since each of their best friends also liked each other and this began the lifetime foursome of Bobby, Margie, Lin and Denny, aka Bob and Marge Todd and Dennis and Linda Lyons.  They raised their families together.  They had a bond that will never be broken.
Dennis fought his battle with cancer with strength and courage.  He was determined to beat it.  He did twice.  Then the 3rd time it appeared it still didn’t win because it died.  Dennis won because he is alive and healed in the presence of our beautiful Savior, Jesus Christ at HOME IN HEAVEN.  We are very thankful for the PROMISE AND HOPE OF HEAVEN given to us through Christ.
Dennis was preceded in death by his bride of almost 58 years, Linda Seabolt Lyons, by his parents, Arvel and Lorene Lyons, his brother Arvel Lynn Lyons, his nephew Ronnie Lee Lyons, numerous aunts and uncles and his best friend Robert P. Todd and Marge Todd.    He is survived by his 2 daughters, Julie Snyder and husband Pat Snyder, Lori Davis, and her husband Dwight.  Five grandchildren Ryan and Chasity Snyder, Loren Snyder, Candon Davis and Jaxon Davis and 4 great grandchildren. His niece Teri Lynn Lyons, nephew Richard Lyons and wife Kathy Lyons, niece Rhenda Lyons and many great nieces and nephews.
