Walter Lee Davis - January 18, 1959 - June 08, 2020

Departed: 06/08/2020 (Evergreen Park)
Obituary Preview: Walter Lee Davis was born January 18, 1959, in Chicago, IL to the parents of Fred Davis Jr. and Okla Davis. (Both parents preceded him in death)  Walter was the youngest of 7 children.  Many would say that he was spoiled because he was the baby of the family as well as a “mommy and daddy’s boy.”  They would do any and everything for their Walt.  Walt grew up on the south side of Chicago right on 61st and Laflin.  Walt attended St. Rayfield for preschool. He later attended Earl Elementary from Kindergarten to 4th grade.  He went to St. Theodore from 5th – 7th grade. Walt graduated eighth grade from Copernicus elementary school. Walter devoted himself to all four years of his learning at Harper High School, where he received his diploma. Walter loved basketball.  He played his last year at Copernicus, however, his love for the game didn’t just stop there, it was just beginning!  Walter played on the basketball team at his childhood church, Bread of Life Missionary Baptist Church, where his mother was a founding member. Walter not only decided to play on various basketball teams but he was on God’s winning team.  He gave his life to Christ at an early age where he said YES to God’s will and let God have his way. He was baptized in the faith.
In 1980, Walter left the nest and relocated to Tennessee to be with his sister Deborah. While there he began working at Enco Materials for eight years.  In 1988, Walter moved back to Chicago to help, assist, and be closer to his mother. Walter was a “jack of all trades.” He obtained various jobs throughtout his life.  He worked in the security field, for Chicago Public Schools, and he also was a city driver for many transportation companies.  In 2018, Walt decided to roll his sleeves down to retire and relax.  If you ask people, I’m sure they would agree that Walter was the most genuine, nice, friendly person you would ever meet.  You could see Walt smiling a mile away and he could light up a midnight room with his personality. THIS CAUSED HIM TO BE A LADIES MAN! Due to Walter ‘s character, he gained nicknames over the years that stuck with him, such as Wally World and SLUG! Although Walter did not have any children, many nieces, and nephews who he considered his own cherished him.
A Memorial Service Celebrating the Life of Walter Lee Davis will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m at Bread of Life M.B. Church, 1924 W 63rd Street, Chicago, IL. A recording of Walter Lee Davis' Memorial Service will be available on this webpage in a few hours.
