Obituary Preview: Linda L. Gerda, 76, of Sharpsville, Pa., passed away in her home Sunday morning, May 5, 2024, with her husband by her side, of complications of a severe fall at home on April 8, 2024.
Mrs. Gerda was born May 22, 1947 in McKeesport, Pa., to Joseph and Sarah Clark.
She grew up in the flats of Sharon and attended Sharon schools.
On August 28, 1971, Linda married Richard Gerda. Together, they enjoyed 52 years of marriage.
Linda retired from UPMC, Farrell, where she worked in housekeeping. Previously, she worked in Sharpsville schools where she was “THE” lunch-lady, and also worked at Hills Department store.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Hermitage.
Linda enjoyed tending to the many flowers she planted around the yard and sitting on the deck soaking up the sun and the fresh air. She enjoyed shopping, especially for Vera Bradley purses. She also liked the monthly night out with the Hills Girls and the UPMC housekeeping girls.
Linda loved her family, especially the grandchildren, Megan and Aidan and her three month old great-grandson, Grayson.
Linda is survived by her husband, Rich; Her son, Rick (Jamie) Williamsburg of VA; Grandchildren, Megan and Aidan and Great-Grandson, Grayson, all of Williamsburg; Sister, Vida Vincent (Fred) of Hartstown; Sister-In-Law, Angie Gerda or Mercer; Brother-In-Laws, David Gerda, of Hermitage, Randy Gerda, of Seattle and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Glenn McCartney, age 90, of Fredonia, passed away of natural causes in Quality Life Services in Mercer on May 1, 2024, at 6:22 a.m.
He was born on July 31, 1933 to Willis and Mae McCartney in Sharon, PA. He attended Fredonia Schools. Glenn was the owner and operator of McCartney Sandblasting in Fredonia, PA. On December 5, 1980 he married Jacalyn Smith.
Glenn is survived by: his daughter, Lisa Miksa of Conneaut Lake, PA; son, David (Lisa) McCartney of FL; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Harthegig Sportmans Club in Fredonia, as well as the Reynolds VFW. He enjoyed Cut Stone artwork, being outdoors, and dogs and cats.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jacalyn; a son, Glenn McCartney Jr.; two sisters, Florence Meade, and Edna Hartman; and two brothers, Bud and Lamar McCartney. “Love You More”

She was born in Sharon, PA on May 17, 1951 to Hugh Mac Intyre and Shirley (Wilson) Mac Intyre.
Linda was a 1969 graduate of Hickory High School. She worked at Joy Cone for 24 years as a packager and a Supervisor.
In her free time Linda enjoyed senior aqua swimming aerobics, going to the concerts at Buhl Park in the summertime, and spending time with her family.
Linda is survived by Son, Dennis Pope and his wife Rachel, of Masury, OH; Sisters, Barbara Klaric of Hermitage, and Thelma Romain (Tony) of West Middlesex; Brother, Skip Mac Intyre and his wife Karen of Hubbard, OH. She is also survived by two step grandchildren; Tyler and Kyle Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation will take place at John Flynn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc..

Cheryl was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was a long time member of girl scouts and was well known for her baking. Everyone knew her as the cake lady. She always had a smile.
She is survived by 2 daughter,  Melanie Bender of Sharpsville and Janine Jackson (John) of Sharpsville and three grandchildren she adored,  Lianna, Jasmine and Anthony. Also a brother Bill White and companion Beth and sister in law Charlene White.  Anyone that knew her loved her.

Richard Rainier - May 28, 1964 - April 27, 2024

Obituary Preview: Richard W. Rainier of Transfer, PA, aged 59, passed away at home on April 27, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.
Rich lived a full, interesting and creative life. He had a knack for making friends both at home and during his travels. He was an avid sportsman and also enjoyed his work in the construction field, but his real passion was motor cycle riding and bike restoration. Rich lived most of his adult life at his property in Transfer, PA and no place suited him more. The many property upgrades, projects he pursued and items he collected over his lifetime allowed Rich and his family and friends to enjoy many holiday gatherings, parties and good times there. It is a blessing that Rich was able to spend his final days at home.
He is survived by his mother Patricia Steiner, step-father Gary Steiner, brother David Johnson, sisters Laurie Johnson and Christine (Robert) Mramor, brothers Robert (Joan) Rainier and Mark (Roberta) Rainier and sister Lynn (Thomas) Mcclafferty as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
He is predeceased by his father John "Jack" Rainier, grand parents Joseph Voytik, Margaret Voytik, Freida Rainier and Merrill Rainier, brother Richard "Rick" Rainier and sister Leslie Rainier.
A memorial is planned for June 1st.

Widow of Harry L. Vinroe, Jr whom she had married on June 22, 1955 and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Vinroe retired as Administrative Assistant at Mercer County Board of Assistance, Hermitage, PA
She attended Bethany Presbyterian Church and was a member of Bethany Women's Group and served as a Deaconess.  Janice had also attended First Baptist Church, Mercer, PA and was the Treasurer in the past.  Janice had also attended Springs of the Living Water Pentecostal Holiness Church of Mercer, PA.
Surviving Janice are her son Donald L. Vinroe and Cheryl (Smith) Vinroe, Andover, OH; a daughter Mrs. David (Linda S.) Parquette of Transfer. Four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A brother and sister preceded her in death.
Memorials are suggested to the AARP, American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans, Our Daily Bread Ministries.

He graduated from Sharon High School. Chuck joined the U.S. Army on June 22, 1960 until June 12, 1962. On October 12, 1963, he married Patricia Cogley. Chuck retired August 1, 1992 from Sharon Steel Corps as a foreman in the blast furnace department after 37 years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church until closing in 2010, then he joined St. Anthony Church in Sharon Chuck was a social member of the Croatian American Civic Club in Farrell, PA, and a bowler in Sharpsville, PA. Chuck loved golfing, Euchre, solitaire, hunting, and spending time with family.
Charles is survived by his daughter, MaryAlice (Jeffrey) Merchant of Sharon, PA; his son, Charles (Paula) Ference Jr. of Hermitage, PA, five grandchildren; Michael Porterfield and his Fiancee Dallas Kovach, Ethan, Connor, Trevor, and Spencer, Step grandchildren, Shane (Casie) Merchant, Steven (Ashley) Merchant and Katelynn (Brian) Anderson. Three great grandchildren; Kamilynn and Karson Porterfield and Eloise Merchant. A sister, Mary Rose Taylor of Hermitage and 3 brothers, John M. Ference Jr. of Hubbard, OH, Francis (Sharon) Ference of Hermitage, Joseph Ference of Hermitage and Phillip (Kathy) Ference of AZ.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 40 years Bruce Ottenwalder of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania; her daughter Robyn Lynnette Brown and four grandchildren: Raymond Glover, Christopher Glover, Anthony Brown and Keith Brown all of Ellensburg, Washington.
She is also survived by a sister Barbara Gullickson, and husband Gary, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a brother Daniel Jenkins, and wife Judy, of Salem, Missouri; and a brother-in-law Roy Hiipakka of Tiverton, Rhode Island. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Brenda was preceded in death by her biological parents Nile and Frances "Franky" Berisford and adoptive parents Merlin and June Jenkins. A brother Floyd "Butch" Jenkins, and wife Cheryl; a sister Diana Hiipakka; and a granddaughter Francis Marie Williams Glover.
In 1987, while her husband was stationed aboard the submarine USS Alabama, Brenda served as the wives club ombudsman helping other wives cope with the challenges of military deployments. A Methodist by faith, she was a member of Sharpsville United Methodist Church.
Brenda enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts and playing with her Pug puppy - Daisy Duke.

He graduated from Hadley High school. Bob proudly served our country as a member of the US Air Force. He was a welder at Damacus Tube Corps for 40 years.
Bob enjoyed dirt track racing, golfing and NASCAR.
Robert is survived by: Two Sons, Gary (Stephanie) Robinson, Rick (Rose) Robinson of Stoneboro, PA; Two Step-Sons, Randy Fell of Greenville, PA, Michael (Reyne) Fell of Greenville; Step-Daughter, Rhonda Hodge of Greenville, PA and 12 Grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by: His parents; His wife, Norma J. "Terri" Robinson, whom he married December 9, 1988 and she passed away September 24, 2012; Step-Son, James Fell; Brother, James Robinson; Step Brother, Donald Williamson and his cat, Kitty Girl. Visitation will be held at John Flynn Funeral Home on Monday, April 22 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 pm following visitation with Pastor John Trojak

Diana Lynn Springer - January 15, 1962 - April 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: Diana Lynn Springer, 62, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. There was nothing more in this life that she loved more than her family and her beloved dog Penny, and they loved her just as much.
Diana was born on January 15, 1962 in Sharon, PA to Thomas and Patricia Kelly Springer. She was a 1979 graduate of Hickory High School and had fond memories of the neighborhood in Wheatland where she grew up.
Diana went on to work at the Sharon Herald and traveled the world over. She then spent many years working at the West Middlesex School cafeteria to watch her kids grow up and at Eat N Park where she greeted everyone with a smile. But her real joy was care giving to the elderly and individuals with disabilities which she excelled at. Her outgoing and friendly personality and her propensity to put others before herself won over the hearts of all that knew her.
She was affectionately known as Aunt Di, Mama Di, and Dianimal, but her favorite title was Grandma. Diana enjoyed camping, dancing, and anything related to the beach. Her late night phone calls just to check in and talk will be missed by many. She truly was the life of the party.
Diana is survived by daughter Karly (William) Santell-Fustos, son Richard Santell Jr., brothers Tom (Tammy) Springer and Curt (Deja) Springer, sisters Deb (Lou) Griffith and Jen Springer, granddaughter Roslyn Fustos, grandson William Fustos Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents who she loved and missed dearly.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's or the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter.

She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sharon.
Her hobbies included playing games on her phone, shopping, going to Bible study and going for car rides. Dianna was a social butterfly.
She is survived by her fiance, Edward Korab Jr. of Sharon; brothers, Larry Reed of Transfer; and Jim Reed of Cochranton; and a niece, Robin Peel of Meadville.

Denise C Ruffo - December 06, 1938 - April 11, 2024

Obituary Preview: Denise C. “Denny” Ruffo, 85, of Hermitage, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 11, 2024. She passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s Dementia at The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley, Hermitage.
Denise was born December 6, 1938, to Mary Esther (Gordon) and Merle C. Robb in Emlenton, PA. She was a graduate of Butler Area High School. On October 11, 1958, she married her husband, the late Joseph A. “Buster” Ruffo who passed away June 13, 2002.
After she raised her four children, she started working at Sharon Stationery and was the manager of the Art Department for over 10 years. After moving to Greensboro, NC, in the mid 80’s, she worked for Nations Bank.
Denny was an accomplished artist and won many awards for her paintings and photographs. She was a forerunner in folk art painting and did consignment work for a home accent store called “Bayberry West” in West Middlesex. She was a loving mother of four children and an amazing cook who enjoyed having family and friends over for tea and cookies. She enjoyed sewing quilts, planting flowers, crafting and attending bible study with lifelong friends.
Denny is survived by daughters Deborah L. Ruffo of Hermitage, JoLynn (Burt) DeVries of Sharpsville, sons, Joseph R. (Karen) Ruffo of Winston Salem, NC and Eric E. (Keeli) Ruffo of Kernersville, NC; sister, Susan Stephenson of Greencastle, IN, brother, Robert (Martha) Robb of California; grandchildren Andrew R. (Robin) DeVries of Sharpsville and Brandon (Caroline) Eads of Australia; and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Colton DeVries.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph A. Ruffo; sisters Gayle Weiland and Diane Neely.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Debra Schall her care giver for two years, the caring staff at The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley, and Helping Hands (Hospice) for their care and compassion. She had a humorous spirit until her death. We will all miss her immensely.

Her hobbies were reading novels her favorite author was Patricia Cornwell. She loved to shop, making sure it had to match and every color she could get. She attended the Family of life church with her daughter Betty every Sunday. Being baptized and becoming new members together. On NFL Sundays you would find Betty cheering on the New Orlean Saints with her number 1 fan Bella right beside her.
Her number one job was to spread smiles and love to everyone she came in contact with, always making sure that every year every children,grandchildren and great grandchild was met with the biggest Happy Birthday! Remembering all those date gave her so much pride. The family will be celebrating her life at a later date

Mrs. Stimmell was born September 23, 1935 in Allison, PA to Samuel and Catherine (Andree) Cole.
She retired from West Middlesex Schools as a head cook. Mrs. Stimmell was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Stimmell enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and school activities.
Surviving are three daughters, Darlene (Robert) Hardisky, Linda Zduniak, and Pam (Dave) Stimmell; Six grandchildren; Fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Stimmell, whom she married April 5, 1952. Her parents, fourteen brothers and sisters, and a son-in-law Stan Zduniak.
Visitation will be held at John Flynn Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 2630 East State Street in Hermitage, PA, on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Service will be held at John Flynn Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 4:00 pm. Pastor Augie Hurst and Reverend Bill Knechtel will be officiating.

Della L Brest - July 07, 1926 - April 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: On April 2, 2024, Della ‘Lucille’ Brest passed away peacefully at her son Alan’s home in Vienna, Ohio.
Lucille was born on July 7, 1926, at Bus Stop 42 in Hubbard, Ohio, to Lewis Burrell Hough, Sr. and Crissie Jenkins (Watkins).  In May, 1944, she graduated from Sharpsville High School.
Lucille was a member of the Orangeville Baptist Church of Orangeville, Pennsylvania, where she met her beloved and dedicated husband of 51 years, Raymond H. Brest, Sr.  After his passing, Lucille divided her time staying with her children but always returning to the Greenville, Vienna area.
Walking, reading, cooking, and working jigsaw puzzles were some of Lucille’s interests.  Every table in each home she visited had a puzzle on the table.  She taught each of her children and grandchildren numerous card and board games.  Card games were often competitive but always filled with laughter.
Lucille is survived by four children, two daughters:  Nancy Innes (Merritt) of Houston, Texas, and Linda Kettering of Buford, Georgia, and two sons:  Alan R. Brest (Marita Lee) of Vienna, Ohio, and Rand W. Brest (Kim) of West Palm Beach, Florida.  In addition, Lucille is survived by twelve grandchildren, as well as twenty-nine great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; and three siblings, Robert ‘Butch’ Hough, Phyllis Parshall, and sister-in-law Agnes Hough.  Lucille is also survived by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends each having a special place in her heart.
Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond H. Brest, Sr., who she married on April 21, 1945, and who passed away September 30, 1996, eldest son Raymond H Brest, Jr. (Patricia) who passed August 4, 2023. Grandsons, Brian Ray Brest and Patrick Noll, her parents, and siblings: Doris Brown, Lewis, William and Evan Hough.

Obituary Preview: Audrey E. Goda, 83, of Hermitage passed away peacefully with her sons by her side following a brief illness on Monday, April 1, 2024.
Audrey was born in Wheatland September 1, 1940 where she was raised by the late Leonard and Elsie (Gresley) Van Gazelle.  She graduated from Farrell High School in 1958.  At various times during her early life, she worked as a beautician, then Packard Electric, and finally Daffins Candy Factory. However, her true passion was caring for her family as a homemaker. She was an active and devoted member of the Ladies Axillary of the Patagonia Volunteer Fire Department, Mercer County Poll Worker, and Sharon Regional Hospital Volunteers.  Audrey took pride raising her children with religion and was a member of the former St. Bernadette's Church, Masury, Ohio.
Audrey most loved to sit around the campfire with family and friends while spending time at their cottage or on camping trips. She loved to go off-roading in their jeep, boating, and picnicking with her husband, children, and grandchildren.  She also enjoyed bird watching, swimming, reading, and word puzzles. Their dog Chooch will miss her evening treats and games.
She is survived by husband of 64 years, Robert C. Goda; 2 sons: Robert L. Goda and his husband Rev. Richard Schaal, Owego, NY; Daniel G. Goda and his wife Candace S. Goda, Hermitage, PA;  her grandson: Nathaniel R. Goda and his wife Meghan A. Goda; her aunt: Ruth Brashen, Hermitage, PA; and her husband's sister Theresa Doyle and her husband Thomas Doyle of Wheatland, PA.

Emily was born August 18, 1956 in Sharon, PA to William and Sennetha (Wearing) Jarvie. In her youth, she was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church Farrell, Pa where she sang in the youth choir and participated in various church programs.
In 1974, Emily graduated from Farrell High School where she enjoyed being a swim aide and participating in the Junior Achievement program. Upon graduation she gained employment at Sharon General Hospital. She held the position of dietary aide for a number of years . Upon leaving Sharon General, Emily relocated to Rochester, NY where she worked at the Little Ones Matter Day Care Center until her health began to decline. She then moved back to the valley where she worked part time at MERP through the Senior program at Career Link. Emily enjoyed music of all types and a good party.
Eydee leaves behind her sister Rhonda L. Garner (Mark); nephews whom she loved dearly, Christian (Amber) Garner, Verona, PA and Jordan T. Garner, Sharon, PA; nieces, Lashanda N. Jarvie, Brittany D. Tarrant (Curtis), Autumn Jarvie; God-daughter, Michele D. Jordan; special first cousins, Cheryl Roseboro Smoot, Gail Roseboro, Lawrence Roseboro, and Brian Roseboro; and long time friend, Sophia Lynn Atwood who helped care for her in recent days and a host of great nieces, great nephews and friends.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents William and Sennetha (Wearing) Jarvie; brothers, Derrick E. Jarvie and William R. Jarvie; nieces, Cassandra Jarvie and Cynthia Jarvie Thomas; maternal grandparents, Alonzo and Lillie M. Wearing; paternal grandparents, Elizabeth (Jarvie) Grover and Milo D. Grover. She was born in Sharon, PA on February 23, 1953 to Pete Carpec and Regina (Novak) Hardy.
Denice worked as a cook her entire life up until her retirement as the Head Cook at Meals on Wheels. She was known for her homemade lasagna,  stuffed peppers or cabbage, mac n cheese, and perogies,  often catering for family parties. Denice was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan,  especially Troy Polamalu.  She loved watching game shows, her "soaps', playing crossword puzzles, yahtzee, and solitaire. Denice was known as the Diana Ross of the family, always being the life of the party and clowning around to make you laugh. She was also known for her love and collection of singing and dancing stuffed animals. She also loved and collected gnomes.
Denice was heartbroken at the loss of her husband and ironically passed away on their 36th wedding anniversary.
Surviving is her daughter, Angel Campman (Eric Lenzi) and her grandchildren, whom she adored, Eric and Brock Lenzi.
Also surviving are her stepchildren;  John Cochran, Sharon (Byron) Brannon, Kathy (Ken) Vaughn, and Sherry Cochran. Her grandchildren; Nicole (John) Stephens, Byron (Victoria) Brannon, Ken and Kyle Vaughn, Katerina (Nick) Young, Carley Harshbarger, and Corey Cochran; Brother, Pete (Ricky) Carpec; Sisters Jeannie (Wick) Dillon, Marcia Broadway, and Chris (Dan) Trinckes. She also leaves several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; Her husband Walter (Buddy) Cochran; Her stepson, Troy Cochran and sisters, Donna Carpec and JoAnn Branscum. Denice never left a card without her signature "SWAK" on it. What her daughter and grandchildren will remember and miss the most is her favorite phrase, "Love you Muck-a- muck!" Mom/Grammy, we'll "see ya around, like a donut!"
A Celebration of life dinner will take place March 29, 2024 at Hickory VFW at 5:30 pm. Casual or Steeler attire.

Karen is survived by her 2 son's, David (Valerie) Capilongo of New Eagle, PA, and Chad J. Capilongo of Farrell, PA. A sister, Paulette Thomas and brother, Eugene Ellsworth both of North Hills, PA. Also surviving; her grandchildren, Olivia Capilongo, and Lucas Capilongo.
She is preceded in death by; Her parents; Her Husband, David J. Capilongo, whom she married, June 17, 1979 and he passed away November 17, 2023 and a sister, Linda Flannigan.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 25, 2024, 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm at John Flynn Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hermitage, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 6:30 pm at the John Flynn Funeral Home Chapel, Hermitage, PA, with Pastor Matthew Bupp officiating.

DJ enjoyed NBA basketball, her dog Lilly, and spending time with family.
Donna is survived by her children, Rick Vivolo of Mebane, NC; and Jay Vivolo, of Los Angeles, CA and her brother, Dave Reeher of Harrisville, PA as well as four grandchildren, Nixon, Liana, Elias and Riley Vivolo.

Mr. Pierce was born to Paul and Nancy (Hinkson) Pierce on May 19, 1966 in Greenville. He attended Greenville School District until his senior year and graduated from Conneaut Lake High School, Class of 1984. He was also a graduate of New Castle School of Trades and attended Thiel College and Edinboro University. Mr. Pierce always took pride in his work, whether that was as a supervisor, selling insurance, working maintenance, or as a corrections officer.
Jay was an avid sports fan. He loved cheering on the Browns, Indians, and Flyers. He could frequently be found on the golf course or at the bowling alley and was a fierce competitor in several leagues. He was always passionate about sports and was proud to pass that love onto hundreds of student athletes as a coach. Over the years, he coached football, wrestling, golf, baseball, softball, and basketball.
In addition to being a sports fan, Jay was an animal lover. He loved to feed the deer and spend time with his cat, Leroy. His favorite places were Virginia Beach and Disney World. He was a longtime member of the Greenville Elks Lodge and the Reynolds VFW. He attended Grace Chapel Community Church in Hermitage.
Jay loved his family and friends more than anything. He was a hardworking, generous, kind, loving son, father, fiancé, grandfather, nephew, coach, and friend who would do anything for anyone.
He is survived by his parents Paul and Nancy Pierce (Greenville), his fiancée Melinda “Mindy” (Millison) Gosser (Greenville), his daughter Morgan (Scott Broge) Pierce (Meadville), his step-children Jerimy Norris (Sharpsville), Leanna Gosser (Hermitage), Makayla (Cody) Mott (Cleveland, OH), and Matthew Gosser (New York City, NY), his granddaughter Rebecca Norris (Hermitage), his uncles Gary (Lisa) Hinkson and David (Jenny) Hinkson (Fredonia), and his Aunt Helen Harrison (Greenville).
