Robert Nourse Salomon - December 15, 1951 - April 30, 2024

Departed: 04/30/2024 (Wayland)
Obituary Preview: Robert “Rob” Nourse Salomon, M.D., a 4-year resident of Wayland, died peacefully in his sleep on April 30, 2024, at the age of 72 after a long illness.
Rob leaves behind Kristin Konzak, his wife of 24 years, his sister Susan Hargett and her daughter Amanda Hargett and granddaughters Avery and Devany Little, and cousins Alison and Rick Miller, KT and Tim Kiley, Pete and Jenny Emerson and Victoria Nourse and Richard Cupitt, their children, plus many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews on his wife’s side.
Rob was born in Salem, MA to Robert A. Salomon and Virginia Nourse Salomon. He began school in Longmeadow, MA before moving to Wayland, MA in 1960. He graduated from Wayland HS, Class of 1970, and Harvard University, Class of 1974. Rob obtained his medical degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Class of 1979, and pursued his interest in molecular and diagnostic pathology through a pathology residency at Deaconess Hospital and post-doctorate fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital and Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. Rob was appointed a staff pathologist at Tufts Medical Center in 1990, when he also began as an Assistant Professor of Pathology at Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dividing his time between his medical practice, teaching and research, Rob co-authored 36 peer-reviewed publications in the field of molecular pathology and aging. He further was Associate Editor of Diagnostic Molecular Pathology and was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Rob had a lifelong interest in the biology of aging. Working with collaborators, Rob devoted much of his time to researching mechanisms and causes of aging in humans. Beginning around 2005, Rob and his co-authors became interested in the development of fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) models of aging and age-related diseases. Rob adapted otherwise classical techniques of diagnostic pathology to develop fruit fly models of aging and age-related diseases. By treating flies like small human biopsies, he discovered that aging is a major risk factor for the development of tumors in wild type flies, much as it is in humans. This was the first indication that aging is a risk factor for tumor development in flies just as it is in vertebrates, and opened up new approaches to the study of aging and tumor formation in one of the world’s most genetically tractable organisms.
Rob loved music, especially classical music and opera. He played the recorder, would juggle to entertain children, and was an avid reader. His dry sense of humor and sweet disposition made him well loved by family and friends. Rob was also an expert on early television shows, and knew which character actors appeared in which shows, and what each died of. Rob also loved crossword puzzles and solved calculus problems for fun.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:15 am at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rte. 30), Wayland.
Rob’s funeral service will be at 11:30 am at the funeral home with Rev. Deb Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Salomon family lot in North Cemetery, Wayland.

Lake Winnipesaukee, traveling the country with her family, and treasuring the little things in life. But above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. John M Amabile - July 09, 1929 - April 16, 2024

Departed: 04/16/2024 (Wayland)
Obituary Preview: John M. Amabile, Jr., 94, of Natick, passed peacefully at his home in the comfort of his Lord and surrounded by his loving family on April 16, 2024, following a brief period of declining health. He was the beloved Husband of the late Hope (Styles) Amabile also of Natick. Loving father of Henry Amabile and wife Gail of Lancaster, Joan Sutton and husband Jeff of Medway, Elizabeth Ostreicher of Medway, Lucia Wolfe and husband John of Natick and Paul Amabile and wife Cheryl of Colorado Springs, CO. He was the beloved “Grampy” to 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Edward Amabile and wife Mary of West Dennis, a niece and four nephews. As well as his cousin and lifelong friend Peter Tamagno
John was a Natick resident, born and raised. He met his late wife, Hope, at Natick High. The high school sweethearts spent 70 years together raising their children in Natick, spending summers in Osterville with their grandkids and, later, great grandkids, and traveling the world together. In their retired life, they spent winters in Florida and toured the country from Yellowstone to the Maritimes in their Road Trek RV.
John was a graduate of Franklin Institute of Technology’s Automotive Engineering program. He spent his entire career in the automobile business at Midway Auto Center, in partnership with his father, John Amabile, Sr., and brother, Ed. They were well known in the Natick/Framingham community for their outstanding customer service and down-to-earth business practices; they won numerous national awards from Nissan and Jeep over the years.
He was drafted during the Korean Conflict into the US Army (1952-54) and assigned to a Canadian Air Base in the arctic, where he tested and prepared cold weather equipment for use in the battlefield. He loved America and was proud to serve his country. Though never deployed, he always expressed immense gratitude towards those who served on the front lines.
He was a devoted follower of Christ and endeavored to pass along Christian love and care to all those in his circle of influence. He will be remembered for his incredible patience, generous heart and always words of sincere encouragement. For many years he was a board member of the Bridge House Ministry in Framingham, which helps men re-enter the community after incarceration.
John was a proud first-generation American. His family emigrated from Northern Italy at the turn of the 20th century. At the direction and vision of his grandfather Peter Tamagno, the family settled on a piece of land along Rt. 9 in Natick, where they started a gas station repair shop, a restaurant, a motel, and built a number of homes still in the family. John always believed that the strong, family-centered work ethic of his parents and grandparents laid the groundwork for the future success of generations to come.
As a passionate “car guy,” he chopped and channeled a ‘34 Ford coupe hot rod, raced Porsches in the 1960’s, and was a regular attendee at sports car races in New England and Florida with his brother, Ed, and cousin, Peter. If you had the pleasure of attending a vintage car race with him, he was a walking encyclopedia of automotive racing history. In his 90’s he could still diagnose a misfire in your engine over the phone with hearing aids. In his last days he could tell you the exact engine specs for the 2026 Formula 1 race season.
He will be forever missed as the loving leader of his family and by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 24, 2024 from 5:00-8:00 pm at John C Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (off route 30), Wayland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 10:00 am at St Linus Church, 119 Hartford St, Natick.

Dolores B Boyle - February 20, 1941 - April 11, 2024

Departed: 04/11/2024 (Wayland)
Obituary Preview: Dolores Summa Boyle, of Newton, MA, formerly of Charlestown and Wayland, MA, died peacefully on April 11. For 64 years, Dodie was the devoted and loving wife of John Joseph ”Jack” Boyle, Jr.
Dolores “Dodie” was born February 22, 1931 in Watertown, NY, daughter of Italian immigrants, James Vincenzo Summa and Marianna Di Rubbo Summa . Dodie grew up in Syracuse, NY, she graduated high school from The Knox School for Girls in Cooperstown, NY, and later Syracuse University.
When their eldest reached school age, Dodie and Jack moved to Wayland where they lived for 25 years. There she made her mark: ardent cheerleader of her sons’ sports, instigator of neighborhood social activity and untiring champion of the disadvantaged. Dodie spearheaded multiple charitable efforts, helping establish the Parmenter Health Center, initiating Wayland Hospice-at-Home program, and supporting Life Resources outreach program serving at-risk adolescent boys. She raised money for Bay Cove/Center House, serving people with mental illness, and supported SafeSpace shelter for victims of domestic violence in Stuart, FL.
Dodie’s interests and talents were many. She loved the theater and performed at the Volkes Theater in Wayland. Dodie was proud that her family was one of the first in Wayland to host Metco students from inner City Boston. If she wasn't organizing an event, she was in the kitchen singing Broadway tunes and cooking up wonderful Italian meals for her ravenous boys. Dodie had a lot of style and loved dressing up, especially on Halloween, when she was so convincingly a hideous witch that she frightened all visitors. Nobody recognized her, even as she mischievously kissed the husbands of her best friends.
More than 25 years later, when the nest was empty, Dodie and Jack moved to the Charlestown Navy Yard, where she made a beautiful home overlooking the site of Jack’s honorary Navy Discharge decades before.
Dodie was small in stature but big in spirit. Not a quiet woman, she was opinionated, knew what she wanted, and was always willing to make that known. She lived a long, colorful, fun life. Most of all, she made a difference. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is predeceased by her two brothers Andrew and Joseph Summa. She is survived by her husband Jack and their four sons, John Boyle and wife Mary, Edward Boyle and wife Cameron, James Boyle and wife Hanna, David Boyle and wife Oselinda, and eight grandchildren: Giovanna, Jeikson, Jack, Rocco, Elena, James, Henry and Sophia.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19th, 4-7pm, at Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd., Wayland, MA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral on Saturday, April 20th, 10:30am, at Good Shepherd Parish, 124 Cochituate Rd., Wayland, MA.  Livestreaming of the funeral mass will be available at youtube/com/goodshepherdwayland.com.

Chachyamma Abraham - August 22, 1950 - March 24, 2024

Departed: 03/24/2024 (Wayland)
Obituary Preview: Chachyamma Abraham, known as ‘Shanta’ to her family and friends, was born to Reverend C.C. Chacko and Mariamma (née George) Chacko on August 22nd, 1950 in Kozhenchery, Kerala, South India.
The youngest of eight children, Shanta was doted on by her parents and siblings, and spent her girlhood exploring the many cultures and faiths prevalent in the towns and cities her father, a minister in the Church of South India (CSI), was called to serve during his career. Her childhood nurtured Shanta’s sense of exploration and keen desire to learn, traits that would serve her well during her later life in the United States.
Shanta obtained her Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Kerala in 1971. Shortly after, she ventured solo to New York City (a feat almost unheard of for Indian girls at the time) to begin her graduate studies at the City College of New York, eventually obtaining her Master of Physics. Her time in New York cultivated Shanta’s fearless and adventurous spirit, and was just one of many glass ceiling moments in her inspiring life, which included notable roles at such well-known names as the Pepsi Cola Company and the SAS Institute.
Shanta married Kakkudiyil Idiculla (Sonny) Abraham in January, 1979. Two years later, their first child Tara was born. George, their second child, followed in 1984. Together, Shanta and Sonny built a life for themselves and their children, first in New York and later in Weston, Massachusetts. No matter the location, however, Shanta maintained a strong foundation of family and community for her loved ones. Never was this more evident than through Shanta’s love of entertaining. Be it family or friends, her favorite pastime was to bring people together to laugh, enjoy, and connect with one another.
Shanta was called to heaven on March 24th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband, Sonny, her children Tara (Matthew) and George (Leanne), and three grandchildren, Lucas, Liam, and Laila, who were her greatest pride and joy.
The bond of family was everything to Shanta. Her husband, children, and grandchildren feel an immense void since her passing. In this time of great difficulty, the entire family is thankful for the cherished memories they have together. She will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 6th, 2024. Shanta’s final journey will begin at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church (320 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA). There will be an open casket viewing at 9:30 AM EST (8 PM IST). The funeral service will start at 10 AM EST (8:30 PM IST), and the committal will take place directly after at Linwood Cemetery (180 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA). For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available at https://www.stpetersweston.org/. Please scroll down the page and click the button labeled “Livestream.”
Following the service, the Abraham family invites you to please join them at a reception celebrating their beloved wife, mother, and grandmother’s life. The reception will be held at 1 PM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Parish Hall.

George F. Bowers - December 06, 1932 - February 25, 2024

Departed: 02/25/2024 (Wayland)
Obituary Preview: George F. Bowers III passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2024 after a brief illness at the age of 91. A resident of Florida, he was a native of Wayland, MA and longtime resident
and educator in Seekonk, MA. He offered many words of wisdom during his journey on this planet, none more poignant than "never be a stereotype." To him, these weren't just words; they embodied a deliberate ethos. His own life exemplified this guiding mantra, earning him the reputation of a modern-day
Renaissance man.
In his youth, George excelled as both a star amateur athlete and a professional baseball scout. His passion for sports endured, manifesting in unwavering support for Boston's local teams through thick and thin. Even during the toughest times, his cheers—though perhaps a tad
saltier—remained resolute. George became a mentor and father figure to countless youths across seven decades, donning various hats as a teacher, principal, and coach. His impact was profound, bringing both reverence and respect from those whose lives he touched… much to the joy of his children who
had to walk the same hallways with these classmates. An advocate for the arts, George's interests spanned from painting to a fervent appreciation of
theater and music. He was a foodie before the term ever existed. An outstanding cook who did his best work when the fridge was a little bare. Three completely unrelated ingredients and a shaker of McCormick
ground mustard were more than enough for him to create a culinary masterpiece. George was a humble man, but he took great pride in his landscaping and gardening skills. His pristine lawn served as a source of envy for his neighbors who also enjoyed his abundance of
tomatoes. Above all, George was a devoted husband and father, and a man of remarkable integrity and
compassion. He was protective of those less fortunate, both human and animal. Born March 25, 1928 in Providence, RI, Constance attended Lincoln High School, earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Holyoke College in 1949 and a Master of Public Health degree from Yale University in 1950. A lady of many accomplishments, she attained a private pilot’s license at the early age of 16 before embarking on her academic career. She shared her knowledge as a lecturer for five years at Northeastern University and served for 14 years as Coordinator of Health Education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A staunch promoter of women’s health issues, Constance was a co-founder of the Boston Association of Childbirth Education, Inc. in 1953, one of the first in the country. She was a pioneer in the introduction of natural childbirth and other reforms into hospital maternity care. While still a teen-ager she was a volunteer in a hospital “new-born nursery” and saw the need for change. Later, at Yale, she was introduced to their new natural childbirth program, which started her life-long interest in family centered birth.
An active author, Constance published eight books. Her latest book was just released this month, Nine Lives and Counting- A Memoir of Hope, Caring, and Healing, Damianos Publishing, 2023. Previous books included Methods of Childbirth, published in 1972 by Doubleday, Labor and Delivery, An Observer’s Diary, Doubleday and Company, 1977; The Better Back Book, Morrow, 1989; Women Murdered by the Men They Loved, Haworth Press, 1992; and Beating Lyme Disease-Understanding and Treating This Complex and Often Misdiagnosed Disease, AMACON, 2008.
Constance was a member of numerous professional organizations to include: The American College Health Association, Education Section, and the International Childbirth Education Association.
Shortly after her retirement from MIT, Constance was afflicted by Lyme disease in 19¬¬93, years before current diagnostic and antibiotic treatment protocols were available. Motivated by her concern for others to receive effective and time sensitive care for this disabling condition, she devoted the remainder of her life to elevating awareness and promoting proper treatment of Lyme through her extensive research, publications and speaking engagements.
Possessing a strong sense of civic duty, she served on the Board of Health in her hometown of Wayland for six years and was active in environmental issues throughout her more than sixty years of residence. She was a member of “Dow Neighbors,” a local grass roots organization, which worked for ten years to successfully convince corporate leadership to clean and restore a toxic waste site. This effort resulted in the reclamation of 28 acres of conservation land; which, is enjoyed by the community to this day.
Her family will miss her loving presence as a wife, mother, and sister. Her community will miss her determined spirit; an attribute that sought to improve both the quality of life for the individual as well as the common good for all.

Carolyn Thyra Lippmann - April 27, 1947 - December 15, 2023

Departed: 12/15/2023 (Wayland)
Obituary Preview: Carolyn Thyra Lippmann (Larson), 76, of Wayland, MA, died peacefully at home looking forward to a new life with Christ on Friday Dec 15, 2023. Her husband and family were by her side during her six month illness with pancreatic cancer.
Carolyn’s life was characterized by a love of God, a love of family and friends, and a celebration of God’s creation. Born in Stamford, Connecticut on April 27, 1947, she enjoyed church, camping with the girl scouts, and exploring the nearby woods. She attended the Idaho Girl Scout Senior Roundup in 1965 and was in the first group of campers to attend the Covenant Church Camp Squanto summer camp. Although her parents couldn’t support a college education, she won an academic scholarship to Smith College in 1965 studying chemistry. In college, she encouraged friends by her strong faith and led them on fun outdoor adventures.
During college she was an upward bound counselor in summers and, after graduating, took a break backpacking in Europe. She then received a Master’s Degree in Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) after facing some unexpected prejudice against women. At MIT she was influential as a dorm counselor and part of a campus Christian organization. On a winter outing snowshoeing up Cannon mountain, she met Richard Lippmann, her future husband, and they were married in 1972. She taught math at Malden High School for two years before John and Rebecca were born while Richard finished his PhD at MIT. During this time Carolyn taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and made many long-term friends at the 1st United Presbyterian Church in Cambridge. Kiersten was born in Omaha, NE where the family lived for a few years and Joanna was born in Wayland after moving back to Massachusetts.
Hiking, swimming, biking, gardening, preparing and eating meals together, church activities, hosting foreign students and friends, and summer camping trips at Nickerson State Park on Cape Cod were highlights of family activities. On Cape Cod, Carolyn especially enjoyed walking on the tidal flats and soaking in the warm bay water that accompanied incoming tides on warm days. She also was a girl scout leader, a METCO host, taught physics at the Lexington Christian Academy and led nature programs for children at Drumlin Farm and the town of Waltham.
Carolyn and Rich enjoyed traveling together when Rich presented at overseas scientific conferences. They took many trips to Alaska visiting Kiersten while she attended college and worked and Carolyn took two memorable trips with Kiersten down the ALCAN highway. Another highlight was a trip to visit Joanna who was studying abroad in New Zealand. Carolyn also attended and led a Bible Study Fellowship group, taught Sunday School, helped lead a home small group Bible Study, helped lead the deacons at church, led the church missions committee, and went on short-term mission trips to Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador. She provided flowers, friendship, prayers, and food to many home-bound church members at the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland.
Her heart for missions and the people of Haiti led her to help establish a new technical school called C-Tech or the Christian Technical Institute in Haiti through being a board member on the U. S. Foundation for the children of Haiti. This school now has more than 100 students learning electrical technology and nursing in a safe rural environment. Carolyn is also on the board of Life Giving Water International led by missionary friends who are spreading the Gospel while providing safe drinking water in rural Ecuador.
More recent trips have focused on visiting children and seven grandchildren. She and Richard have been taking each grandchild on a trip when they reach the age of 12. So far they have taken Jack to Iceland, Madeline to Ireland, and Josh to Scotland. Annika and Miriam have also joined Carolyn and Rich camping in the National Park on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Carolyn has enjoyed being a member of a group of women called the ukuladies who get together frequently to play the ukulele, sing, and talk. Living part time in a home near John’s family in northern Vermont made it possible for the whole family to get together over the summer and at Christmas. It was also the location of Rich and Carolyn’s joyous 50th wedding anniversary celebration along with friends and extended family.
Carolyn’s trust in God, love for family and friends, and love of nature has continued to be demonstrated through posts on her CaringBridge site through her illness. She has also passed these lifelong interests to her children.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father and mother John and Thyra (Lindstrom) Larson and her sister Lila Clark. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years Richard Lippmann; son John Lippmann his wife Wendy and their children Jack, Madeline and Joshua; daughter Rebecca Kung her husband Peter and their daughters Miriam and Annika; daughter Kiersten Lippmann and her dogs; daughter Joanna Whitnah her husband Michael and children Charles and Annalie; her brothers John Larson and Doug Larson and numerous cousins and close friends here and in Sweden. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 5, 2024 at 11 o’clock at Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Road (Rt 27), Wayland
It is Carolyn’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable contributions to the U.S. Foundation for the Children of Haiti at http://www.usfch.org/.

We couldn’t have asked for a more devoted parent, grandmother, Nan, Nanny, BaBa, sibling, and friend. She will be missed every day and her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
As per her request, she was cremated with no visitations or services. Her burial and celebration of life will be planned for a later date in Spring, 2024.
Since Barbara was a lover of animals, donations of any kind to your local animal shelter would be greatly appreciated.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary or provide guidance on what information to include.
