Virginia Lorainne Croyle - April 19, 1958 - March 10, 2024

Departed: 03/10/2024 (Bellingham)
Obituary Preview: Virginia Lorainne Croyle, mother, educator and beloved community member, was born on April 19, 1959 to the union of Warrington Ray and Roberta Evans Croyle in Gardena, CA. She passed away in her home on Sunday, March 10, 2024 in Bellingham, WA.
Better known as Ginger, her self-given nickname encapsulated her dynamic personality - she was a funny and spicy woman with standout personal style (including her signature berets), strong-willed, gloriously irreverent, a connoisseur of music and laughter and a lover of all things red.
Ginger was a life-long Washington resident, spending the majority of her adulthood in Seattle. As a working, single mother, she graduated from the University of Washington, completing a Bachelors of Science in Society and Justice, a new degree at the time with a special emphasis on supporting youth in the justice system. Her 12-year career with the United States Census Bureau produced some of her most cherished friendships. She was an educator of Seattle children at all levels, from preschool to highschool, bringing her enthusiasm for learning and the compassion from her lived experience to her work. As an educator of special needs children in Lynden, she was supported by her principal to use her expertise to create a life skills and transition program for local highschool students.
Ginger had several hobbies as an avid reader, bird watcher, gardener, artist and creator of opulent hand-sewn purses. In her final years, she used many of those interests as the bases for her self-published children’s book and was researching to write a second at the time of her passing.
Ginger viewed herself as a woman who had overcome the most serious of life challenges and saw her children, Amber Sijuwade and Christopher Croyle as her pride and greatest accomplishment. She engaged with others with generosity and a unique combination of seriousness and hope. In her latter years, she chose to end all conversations with a message of gratitude.
Virginia Lorainne Croyle is survived by her daughter Amber, son Christopher, son-in-law, Adeleke Sijuwade, grandchildren, Adekore, Ademuayo, Adetuntun, David and Isaac as well as her sister Gretchen Coulter, brother-in-law, Jeff Coulter, and their children Rachel, Grace and Gregory.

Kathy was born on June 18th, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the first of two children of Ralph E. (Joe) Davenport Jr. and Sarah Kate Thomas Davenport.
Kathy attended multiple elementary schools due to the family having to move for her Daddy’s work. She initially started elementary school in Waco, Texas, and subsequently moved to Louisiana, California, and then back to Texas for grades 6-9. She then moved to Cody, Wyoming for her remaining high school years, where she graduated from Bronc Cody High School in May 1975. Kathy was a Brownie and a Girl Scout in elementary school. During her high school years, she played basketball and ran track, with a strength in hurdles. She was on the drill team, a dancing Broncette, and was homecoming princess her senior year. She was an incredible seamstress, which she learned from her Aunt Sue and Aunt Peggy and she made many of her own clothes. During her younger years she loved to squirrel hunt, fish, run trout lines before and after school, ski, swim, and go to the beach. Kathy and her sister Vickie had many wild animals growing up including raccoons, skunks, a rosy boa constrictor, guinee pigs, and Sammy the squirrel. She was an avid music lover and in 1970 her Daddy took her and the family to see Elvis Presley at the Astrodome in Texas. She loved it!
After Graduation, Kathy worked for Dr. John Bluher, DDS as a dental assistant. She had a variety of other jobs including Inventory Specialist, Real Estate Processor, and Cook. They were the light and joy of her life. She always said raising kids was her greatest accomplishment. Kathy loved big and she loved fiercely; she adored being a mom and Grandma to her grandbabies whom she gave special nicknames to. She always had a cold popsicle waiting and a treat for each of them when they came to visit, along with a big Kathy hug! Her happiest times were when all her family were under the same roof with her spending time eating, laughing, and simply being together. She spent the last 24 years of her life with her life partner Brian, with whom she had a special connection with. They watched Nascar often and they loved to indulge in good food. Kathy enjoyed singing, dancing, and telling stories. One of the many fond memories our family shares was going treasure hunting with mom out at Cherry Point, in search of agates. Robert John Buckenmeyer - July 12, 1933 - January 23, 2024

Departed: 01/23/2024 (Bellingham)
Obituary Preview: Robert John Buckenmeyer 1933-2024. Passed away 1/23/2024 at his home.
Bob was born July 12, 1933 in Everson WA the 2nd son of Joseph (1904-1980) and Orabelle (1913-1960 Buckenmeyer. His wife Frances (1938-2016) preceded him in death. An older half sister Vesta predeceased him. His three brothers - Fred, Ray (Carol), and Jim (Dawn) and two sisters - Peg and Phyllis are still with us.
Bob and Frances brought up four boys Robert, Rick, Carl (Karen), and Cary (Robert passed away in 1989, and Cary passed away in 1990).
Bob grew up on the Buckenmeyer homestead farm which was very close to the border with Canada in Columbia Valley. He lived his entire life near or in Maple Falls except for his time in the service. His early life got started with being baptized and attending the St. Peter's Catholic Church in the Columbia valley community with his family. The early part of his adulthood started with working in the logging industry. Then he got a letter from Uncle Sam informing him that his friends and neighbors had selected him to serve in the US Army. This was during the Korean conflict but he was never assigned to go there. After basic training he was on a ship crossing the Atlantic ocean on his way to his assignment in Germany when the Korean conflict ended and therefore his pay was reduced. While in Germany, he was able to take some time on leave to look up some relatives in the neighborhood of Wessingen and Hechingen who remained in communication for a few more years after. After his service in the Army he came back to the area where he had grown up and did no more major traveling other than by driving on local and regional vacation trips.
He met his wife Frances in 1957 in Chilliwack BC (he had friends on both sides of the border so the action on any given weekend could be either up there or down here, and this facilitated their meeting). They married March 14, 1958 and enjoyed 58 anniversaries together. They brought up the four boys mentioned above.
Bob's main career job until retirement was working at the Clausen quarry on the silver lake road mainly as loader operator, where his fellow CB radio handles referred to him as "Super Scoop". There were many wonderful stories about days at the quarry like when someone came in and wanted $20 worth of crushed rock (normally bought by yard or half yard) and Bob after trying to do some rough math in his head, sprinkled some into the guy's truck and said "go try that", so after driving onto the scale, ringing it up and applying taxes it came out to $19.95 and the guy wondered how does he get it that close (Bob later said, you should have told him "he must be slipping. He's a whole nickel off"). And there were many adventures with a raven that nested nearby and the guys at the quarry would try to come up with a way to challenge the raven's intellect and skills at getting to some food they would leave for it in a puzzling kind of setup.
Bob had a special sense of humor and had a special way of making anybody feel comfortable while visiting. The most precious and special times were spent around small bonfires in his back yard sitting on lawn chairs and just talking about whatever came up. Everybody could be just whoever they were and come as they are. Anybody driving by on the road that knew him could and would pull in and join the gathering (no official invitation required). He had a special set of skills in rural style amusement. For example, using his pocket knife to make a whistle out of a twig, or putting a grass seed pod in the rear end of a horsefly and then letting it go, and it could only fly straight up and out of sight (he only did this to bad flies that needed to be punished though)
He liked tinkering with older motors and could get your car back on the road again (sometimes with whatever was on hand). But newer motors had too much extra stuff in the way, so he pretty much avoided them.
He was a one of a kind character and everybody is going to miss him dearly.
Maple Falls will not be the same without him. It has entered a new era for it's more recent inhabitants and those that have been there for a long time and still remain.

James A Korski - January 03, 1947 - January 13, 2024

Departed: 01/13/2024 (Bellingham)
Obituary Preview: James A. “Jim” Korski was born in Bremerton, WA to John Armond “Jack” Korski and Marie B. Korski. It just happened to be his mother’s birthday, and what a gift he turned out to be. A consummate entertainer and actor at a young age, he played many roles in childhood games, developing his skills for leading roles in productions at Marcus Whitman Junior High and South Kitsap High schools. He studied theatre at Olympic College while getting his associates degree. It was at Western Washington University where his talent really came to the fore. He played a variety of roles both during his academic studies and after graduation, but it was playing the comic relief characters where he really shone—Bottom in “A Mid Summer Night’s Dream”, the Barber in “The Man of La Mancha”, Ali Hakim in “Oklahoma” and Officer Krupke in “West Side Story” to name a few.
Theatre played another important role in Jim’s life as it was during rehearsals for a student directed one-act play in the summer of 1969 that he met the first love of his life and life-long partner, Judy. After he received his BA from Western, they moved to Los Angeles where he worked for Oscar Meyer, training as an institutional sales person for a soon-to-be-opened distribution center in the San Francisco area. The second love of his life, daughter Jacqui, was born while they were in LA. Repeated delays in the San Francisco opening and total dislike of the LA lifestyle led to a decision to put all worldly possessions into a U-Haul van and return to the Pacific Northwest—Bellingham, specifically. Soon after arriving in Bellingham, Jim was hired at Western as a theater technician; he retired from Western in March, 2008 after 37 years of serving in a variety of positions including assistant to the Dean of the College of Fine and Performing Arts and director of Space (not NASA) Administration.
In addition to his theatrical talent, Jim was superb cook. Trained in his parent’s restaurants in his teens, he utilized those skills both as employment in local restaurants and as a great cook for dinner parties and holiday meals at home. He also loved being near the ocean and hearing waves on the beach with one of his favorite places being their cabin at Sandy Point.
He was a friend and mentor to many Western students as well as to his daughter and her friends.
He became a grandfather when the third love of his life, Amanda Marie, was born. Family was important to Jim. He dearly loved his parents and his late brother Jack, Jr. and his brother’s 3 daughters; Susan, Julia and Carolyn. “Korski Girls & Uncle” weekends were memorable events whether held at home or at some special setting like the Washington Coast or Seattle Center.
Jim passed away on January 13, 2024 at Shuksan Care Center after a long battle with heart and kidney issues. He is survived by his wife, Judy in Bellingham; daughter, Jacqui and granddaughter in Kirkland; nieces Susan Epling of Hillsboro, OR; Julia Dawson of Spokane and Carolyn Korski of Beaverton, OR; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Shuksan Care Center for their compassionate care during Jim’s last days.
At his request, there will be no formal services. Please consider a donation to your personal favorite charity as a remembrance.
