Maudean Davis - August 20, 1938 - October 12, 2021

Departed: 10/12/2021 (Clarkrange)
Obituary Preview: Maudean Davis, age 83 of Clarkrange, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at her home in Georgia, in the arms of her loving husband.
After three years, Maudean lost her battle to breast cancer, certainly not from the lack of strength or fighting.  But she won life.  She loved living, and made every second on this earth count.  She loved people so hard that you couldn't help but feel it.  She radiated joy and the love of Jesus.  She had the best stories and scrapbooks to compliment them.  She made us laugh heartily with her sense of humor and wit.  She taught us life lessons:  how to love people, how important family is, how precious time is, our passion for animals, how to have fun, that hard work pays off, and countless others.  Life will certainly never be the same without her.  To know Maudean Davis truly is to love Maudean Davis.

Roletta Storie - April 03, 1942 - September 28, 2021

Departed: 09/28/2021 (Clarkrange)
Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that the family of Roletta L. Jones Storie, 79, announces her passing. Roletta was born at her home in the Chestnut Ridge community on April 3rd, 1942. Roletta passed away Tuesday, September 28th, 2021.
During her time on this earth you could find her helping people in need, lending rides, mending britches, delivering food to neighbors, extending forgiveness and second chances where most people would have walked away. She was always willing to to help anyone who was down on their luck and having a hard time.
If you needed anything, you better believe she could find it for a great price at a second hand store or yard sale. She was the bargain queen, and she wasn’t afraid to ask if you’d take a dime when it was priced for a quarter. She penny pinched, but she would also give you the shirt off her back if you asked. She was so kind, but if anyone took advantage of her or messed with one of her kids or grandkids, you would quickly see that tiny, scheming, spitfire of a woman teach someone to never mess with her again.
She taught her grandkids how to drive when they were way too young. She taught them to cook gravy, eggs, pancakes, blackberry dumplins, and fried apple pies. She was so funny, and she didn’t even try to be. She never baked a batch of cookies or brownies that she was proud of. She would always say, “Oh, honey, them’s no good. That blamed oven gets too hot.” But those cookies or brownies would be devoured in a day’s time by everyone who came into her home. She was always sneaking her grandkids 20 dollar bills, and she was always the last one to sit and eat because she was too worried about taking care of everyone else.
Roletta spent 79 years on this earth, and for most of those years she spent them taking care of everyone else. She is now resting in the arms of the Lord who is taking care of her.
Roletta is survived by her three daughters Gail McClure (spouse Ronnie), Terri (Darci) Bernabei (spouse Mark), and Ronni Storie; four granddaughters Tabitha Campbell, Maggie Moss (spouse Andy), Caitlin Bowling (spouse CJ), Maddie Bernabei, and step granddaughter Reanna McClure; siblings Mary Walker, Ruth Garmany (spouse Marlin), Daniel Jones (wife Becky); a host of special nieces and nephews, and a special friend Jesslyn Taylor.
She is preceded in death by her husband James Harold Storie; her parents Hattie Branstetter Jones and Leonard Jones; siblings Lois Keys, Bud Jones, Margie Rogers, Dale Jones, & Paul Jones.
Please know that the family welcomes everyone to stop by Roletta’s house to visit and share stories about our incredible mama.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It may also include information about their surviving family members, funeral arrangements, and any notable achievements or accomplishments.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to notify friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a permanent record of a person's life, which can be valuable for genealogical research and historical purposes.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by the deceased person's family members or close friends. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also offer assistance with writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), and surviving family members. It may also include details about their hobbies, interests, and accomplishments.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the family's preferences. Typically, it ranges from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos or other multimedia in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include photos, videos, or other multimedia elements to make the tribute more personal and engaging.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

Check with the specific newspaper or online platform for their submission guidelines and deadlines. Some may require email or online submissions, while others may accept phone or in-person submissions.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, word count, and any additional features such as photos or online tributes. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $1,000 or more.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to ensure that their life story is told accurately and authentically. This can be a therapeutic exercise and can also help reduce the burden on loved ones during a difficult time.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, typically including only the basic facts such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides a fuller picture of the person's life.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber or serious. Including humorous stories or anecdotes can help celebrate the person's personality and spirit.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive issues such as estranged family members or controversial topics, it's best to approach these with tact and discretion. Consider consulting with other family members or a trusted advisor before including potentially sensitive information.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased person's legacy.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Online obituaries may be published immediately, while print publications may take several days or weeks.

Can I edit or revise an obituary after it's been published?

Sometimes it's possible to make corrections or revisions to an obituary after publication. However, this may depend on the publication's policies and deadlines.

What if I need to correct errors in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or online platform directly to report any errors. They will work with you to correct the mistakes as quickly as possible.

Can I reuse an obituary for multiple publications?

Yes! You can reuse an obituary for multiple publications, but be sure to check each publication's submission guidelines and formatting requirements.

Are online obituaries permanent records?

Most online obituary platforms archive tributes permanently, providing a lasting record of a person's life. However, it's always a good idea to save a copy of the obituary for your own records.

Can I create an online memorial or tribute page?

Yes! Many online platforms allow you to create a dedicated memorial page where friends and family can share memories, photos, and condolences.

How do I share an obituary on social media?

Copy the link to the online obituary and share it on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. You can also share it via email or messaging apps.

Can I request corrections or changes to an existing online memorial page?

Contact the online platform directly to request changes or corrections. They will work with you to update the memorial page accordingly.

How do I find archived obituaries from past years?

You can search online archives of newspapers or visit local libraries that maintain archives of past publications. Some online platforms also offer searchable databases of archived obituaries.

Can I use an obituary as part of a eulogy or funeral service?

Absolutely! Obituaries can serve as a valuable resource for crafting a eulogy or funeral service that celebrates the person's life and legacy.

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for someone who was young or died suddenly?

In cases where someone has died suddenly or at a young age, it's especially important to approach the writing process with sensitivity and compassion. Consider seeking guidance from a trusted advisor or counselor if needed.

Can I include quotes or poetry in an obituary?

Yes! Including meaningful quotes or poetry can add depth and emotion to the tribute. Choose pieces that resonate with the person's personality or values.

How do I ensure that an online obituary remains accessible over time?
