Anne Poyntell LaBudde - November 02, 1928 - April 20, 2022

Departed: 04/20/2022 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: After a brief decline on April 20th, our mother Anne Poyntell Held LaBudde died at 6pm that evening, re-joining our dad, Roy (… just in time for Heaven’s cocktail hour). She was 93. In recent years, Mom lived at St. John’s in assisted living. The family is very grateful for the compassionate care St. John’s provided to both Mom and Dad (and to Anne’s mother fifty years ago).
Anne was born to Gertrude Kemper Best Held and Jacob Henry Held on November 2, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the middle of three children and only daughter. She attended Morristown Friend’s School in Morristown, NJ, and Smith College in Northampton, MA. Shortly after returning to Milwaukee, she met her life partner, Roy LaBudde, and together they built his law career, advising small and medium sized businesses and their families, with mom often called on to entertain clients and law partners on short notice.
After marrying dad in 1952, mom gave birth to three boys: Peter (Barbara), Michael (Frances) and Jack (Sue). Deedles, Mikey, Gackies and their spouses all survive her. Still hoping for a daughter, mom was inadvertently blessed with identical twin girls, Susan and Sarah (James) Wolffe, only a few days after she learned she was carrying twins. (Scrupulous about treating Dude and Sissy equally, mom sent identical letters to the girls at camp, alternating who received the original, who the carbon copy, starting with Sarah). They raised their family in Bayside.
Anne was preceded in death by her steadfast loving husband Roy, her two brothers Robert and John, great-granddaughter Emma, dear brothers-in-law Donald LaBudde and William Brunsell, son-in-law Brian Akers, nephew Robert Held, and too many friends to mention. Further survived by eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her dearest sister-in-law Thea LaBudde Brunsell, and beloved nieces and nephews including Bill and Thea’s better-behaved kids, son Paul (Meribeth) and daughter Ann (Gery), who are as close as her own.
Mom loved architecture and designed the homes they built for their growing family and retirement. She was an excellent, canny golfer, and co-ran a successful gift-shop for almost 20 years with some friends.
As a mother, mom was the uncomplaining, patient, and calm center amid the typical LaBudde-family exuberance, impetuousness & untamed rough-and-tumble. Mother was serene amid rambunctiousness, even when meals devolved into competition, experiments and food fights. While her children were often charmed by bad ideas hastily executed, mom was graced with forbearance.
Her hands-off parenting style totally fit the 1960s & 1970’s suburban vibe. After the girls staged a sword fight on the mansard roof (with family heirloom sabers) for a home movie, mom and dad simply padlocked the attic door. A son —who shall not be here named— playing William Tell with his new bow-and-arrow set, shot a tennis ball clean out of the mouth of the trusting neighbor boy across the street (after the girls declined the opportunity).
As a helpmeet, sister-in-law, and friend, Mom was a pro at hosting parties, holiday celebrations, cocktail parties, and vacations, pulling together meals and travels flawlessly, time and again. Over the years we skied out West, station-wagoned across the country (5 kids, no seat belts, unlimited bubble gum), and went up north. She schlepped us to hockey games and wrestling meets, field hockey and track, ski races and hospitals ERs. Mom and dad launched us all through college into professional lives, debt-free.
Mom often led or expressed by action and example, rather than words. A steady rather than adventurous cook, we children still recall the Chicken Breast Decade and the Salmon with Soy Sauce Decade, confidently deployed after the first, tentative early days of broiled-hamburger-on-toast. She made the most out of onion salt. Her one care package sent to college (when Sarah asked) was a box of cake mix.
Above all, mom and dad knew how to have—and share—joyful fun. Together they cultivated many cherished friendships, cemented through travel, parties, bridge games, theater trips, tennis, meals, and volunteer work.
She and dad embodied generosity and hospitality. Holiday meals routinely included friends and extended adopted family, especially our beloved “uncle Jack,” Jacob Bernheim, dad’s law partner and friend, and dad’s childhood friend Dick Evans. There was always, always room for an extra seat at the table.
Mom and dad were true & loving partners, dad always grateful he got to “marry up,” as he put it, contrasting his homespun, Germanic-Lutheran “peasant” origins with mom’s “classier” ones.
Mom’s passing was gentle and peaceful as her local children and spouses shared her final hours with stories, moments of quiet reflection, and laughter, with us drawn even closer together under the quiet shelter of her departing but enduring love.
The family requests no flowers, but memorials to St. John’s or Christ Church of Whitefish Bay. Memorial service planned for early May, details to be posted on Jelacic Funeral Home website.

Jack was like a second father to Maribeth (Jim) Park, Ed Bonkoski, Jane Bonkoski, Jim (Debby) Bonkoski, and Dick (Debbie) Bonkoski.  He was the loved brother-in-law of Joanne Brah and Florence “Twink” Brah.  Jack was also loved by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jack grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduated from Marquette University High School and Marquette University.  He proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Marine Corp.  He married his beautiful wife, Shirley, in 1952 and they welcomed their two children, Tim and Kathy.  Jack and Shirley established their home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.  In the mid 1980’s, Jack started his own investment real estate business (cleverly named “JFB Investment Real Estate”).  In 2011 when Shirley passed way, he moved up to their lake home in Eagle River, WI where he spent his final days under the loving care of his daughter, Kathy.
Jack’s three grandchildren were the light of his life.  He never missed a sports game or school concert, and he was proud of all of their accomplishments.  When his great grandsons came along, Jack requested they call him “The Great One” and the name stuck.  It was very fitting – Jack was truly great.
Jack’s quick wit and sense of humor delighted everyone around him.  His razzing was always met with a kindhearted smile.
Jack will be missed by everyone who knew him.  The family is at peace knowing he has been reunited with the love of his life, Shirley, and many family members and friends who passed before him.

Michael "Blue" Curtis King - Unknown - March 28, 2022

Departed: 03/28/2022 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Michael Curtis King, more affectionately known as “Blue” was born on January 6, 1957, in Milwaukee, WI to the late Gloria Jean King and Steve Hortman. He departed this life on March 28, 2022, at the age of 65.
Blue attended Washington High School and lived his entire life in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a young man he was trained by his father, Steve, to paint and do odd jobs. He used the skills that his father taught him to support himself for many years. Additionally, Blue was a natural supervisor. If a job required extra manpower, Blue could always find someone because Blue knew EVERYBODY! After he found someone to do the job, he would come with them to make sure the job was done to your (and his) satisfaction...and to get his cut.
Blue met Cheryl Claypool and they had a daughter who they lovingly named Lakisha. Blue absolutely adored Lakisha! If you knew Blue, you knew about “Kish” even if you had never met her. He was so proud of her! When Lakisha gave birth to her son Kristopher in 1998, Blue so was excited to meet him that he rushed out to the hospital.  He and Kristopher spent a lot of time together over the years.
There are many words that can be used to describe Blue, but perhaps the most appropriate word is giver.  Blue was a giver.  It seems he was always giving.  He was generous to a fault, but it was his giving that defined him.  One of the ways in which he did this was by giving people rides. Blue basically ran his own private taxi service.  He would take you to work, pick you up from work, take you to the store or to the doctor’s office… wherever you needed to go. But you knew that if you rode in Blue’s taxi, he would most likely pick up someone else that he passed along the way!  While you were riding you were probably laughing, because Blue was funny, and he never met a stranger.  He loved to laugh, and he loved to make others laugh.
One of Blue’s most important roles was as caregiver to his big brother Clint. Not only did Blue serve as caregiver for his brother for more than 25 years, but he also opened his home to numerous family and friends who just needed a warm place to stay. People came to Blue because they knew that his door was always open.
Blue was resourceful, determined, dependable and always willing to share. He gave of himself from the beginning of his life until the very end. He will be very sorely missed, but our lives will be a lot more Blue because he was in them. In addition to his parents, Blue was preceded in death by his sister Pansy King and a special cousin Greg Blackmon, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter, Lakisha King and devoted grandson Kristopher Hills; He is additionally survived by: Brothers: Clifford (Karen) King, and Clinton King; Sisters: Melinda King, Stephanie King (all of Milwaukee), Selina King (Phoenix), Sharon Grant and Mary Lynn Hortman (Milwaukee); Uncle: D’Otis Towns (Milwaukee), and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends
Visitation will be held for Blue on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 10:00am until the time of Serivces at 12:00 Noon, all at Jelacic Funeral Home, inc., 5639 West Hampton Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53218. Interment will follow.
The family requests that all in attendance please wear a mask. Words from Lakisha: I would like to thank everyone for all the love that you gave my father. He lived his life and passed on, maintaining a huge impact on people’s lives. I know that his support made a huge impact on so many people’s lives. I sometimes, however, become sad because I fear that he didn’t leave enough for himself. In his passing I do find some comfort in knowing he can rest now. There’s something about losing a person suddenly that (possibly) makes losing a person, in such a way, almost unbearable. No last chances or last words. How I wish I could tell him that I loved him one more time! The day after he passed I came home grief-stricken to find a light on in my room. One that requires a light panel be used that I’ve never used since we moved into our home over a year ago. I know it was my dad telling me he was okay and now he will watch over me in spirit. I find so much comfort in that!
I love you Michael King, aka Blue Dog, aka my Dad.
A SPECIAL thank you to my Uncle Clifford and Aunt Karen. They have been here every step of the way; mentally, emotionally and financially. They were at the funeral home, the cemetery, they helped with my dad’s suit, they helped me to make tough decisions and have helped in a wide range of other ways. I’m always the strong one, which a lot of times becomes too much and sometimes I would like to just float. My Uncle Clifford and Aunt Karen allowed me to float through this process. I don’t believe I’ve ever been able to just float, but their kindness, compassion, kind words, advice and support allowed me to do just that. I am eternally grateful and you two will forever hold a near and dear place in my heart.
Rest easy dad.
All Glory to God. Amen.

Peter Paul Lovinus, Jr. - December 15, 1932 - February 13, 2022

Departed: 02/13/2022 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Peter Paul Lovinus, Jr. December 15, 1932 – February 13, 2022
Peter Paul Lovinus, Jr., was called home to God peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones on February 13, 2022. He was 89 years old.
Visitation for Peter begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at St. Therese Congregation, 9525 W. Bluemound Rd.  Milwaukee. A memorial Mass will follow at noon.
Peter was born December 15, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis. the son of dairy farmers from Austria and Hungary who settled on the city’s northwest side in what was then called Granville township. His meticulous nature prompted his parents to send him to school across town at Boys Technology and Trade School (class of 1950).
After graduation, Peter enlisted in the U.S. Army, and in 1952 deployed with the 40th Infantry Division to Korea. As a soldier, he carried an M1 Carbine rifle and an E-flat flute on his way to earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Later he served at “Fort Lost-in-the-Woods” (Ft. Leonard Wood) in south-central Missouri.
Pete returned to Milwaukee after the service and made his career at Wisconsin Electric as an architectural draftsman, where for 38 years he manned the drawing board with a compass, steel rule, and only the sharpest #2 pencil. In 1956, on a blind date set up by mutual friends, he met Elizabeth ’Betty’ Fetzer, a surgical nurse at St. Mary’s hospital. He married Betty on March 2, 1957 and they would have four boys and two girls on their way to celebrating 65 anniversaries together.
Family life centered around Mother of Perpetual Help parish on W. Villard Ave. where Pete served on the parish council. On Sundays, he administered Holy Communion and sang tenor in the choir—“ten-or twelve miles away” according to his favorite joke. He coached the MPH Saints youth baseball team and led Boy Scout Troop 98 on numerous camping trips and service outings.
In his golden years, Pete enjoyed painting, spending time with his grandchildren, cooking bacon on wilderness campouts, attending ball games, second-guessing Milwaukee Brewers management, and cracking his trademark Grandpa jokes from his favorite recliner while he worked the crossword puzzle with a very sharp pencil.
In 2014, Pete was honored with a Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. for his service in the Korean War, and in connection, threw the first pitch at a Brewers game at Miller Park. Today, three of his grandchildren are U.S. Army Officers, with another set to graduate West Point USMA in Spring.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents Peter Sr. and Stella; his brothers Walter (Minnie) and Charles, and his sister Stella Lorenz. He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth, and children Paul, Tom (Michelle), Steve (Lisa) Lovinus, Suzanne, Marie (Geoff) Zeidler, and James; his sister-in-law Trudy Lacey and nieces Patty (Ron) Stefanski, Jeanne (Steve) Lisak, Karen (Don) MacLeod, Kathy (Jim) Szopinski, and Mary Catherine ‘Schatzi’ Allen, and nephew Jake (Marion) Lovinus. He is further survived by his grandchildren Adam (Lilledeshan), Erin (Chris McClure), Megan Zeidler (Clerson Lelanne), John (Mackenzie) Zeidler, Peter (Andrea) Zeidler, Andrew Zeidler, Benjamin Zeidler, Carl Zeidler, and Elizabeth Zeidler; and by his great-grandchildren Kaya ‘Schatzi’ and Jah, with whom he shares a birthday, among other family and friends.
Many thanks to all for their kind and compassionate care for Peter, especially for the past three years.
