Obituary Preview: Pearl Lavina Carpenter, 70, of Charles Town, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Willow Tree Manor. Born January 28, 1953, in Ranson, she was the daughter of the late Levi Corder and Clara Buzzard.
Pearl was a member of the Johnsontown Baptist Church, in Hedgesville. She loved her grandchildren, holidays, and parties. She took care of everyone.
She is survived by four sons: Marvin Stump, and wife Bonnie, of Charles Town, Noah Wahler, of Morgantown, Sean Huff, and wife Tiffany, of Havelock, North Carolina, and Zachary Huff; one sister, Linda Diblebliss, of Martinsburg; five grandchildren: Joshua Huff, and wife Donicka, of Houston, Texas, Madison Smith, Lillian Stump, Isiah Stump, and Thaddeus Stump, and five great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Carpenter; daughter, Tonya Marie Huff; brothers: Frank and Donald Corder, and three sisters: Doris Green and Mary and Patricia Corder.
Services and interment will be private.

Obituary Preview: Lenard Charles Allen, 73, of Charles Town, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, following a courageous battle against aggressive cancer. Born in Gardiner, Maine, he was the son of the late Wilfred Austin Allen and Margaret Louise McLean, and grandson of the late Robert L. Allen and Mildred Proctor(paternal), Donald L. McLean and Adelia Hogan(maternal).
Lenard was a humorous, kind, loving, and patient Son, Brother, Husband, Father, and Papa. He enjoyed the outdoors, laughing and spending time with his family, carpentry, athletics, and good conversation. Following high school, where he excelled in track & field at Thornton Academy in Saco, ME, Lenard proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, in addition to the Good Conduct Medal. As an adult, his unwavering work ethic allowed him to own & operate Tri State Premium Audit Service for over four decades. His love of sports carried through his entire life, as he would compete in adult sport leagues and tournaments, often teaming up with his siblings and children. Lenny was active and well known in his community. He coached youth basketball, baseball, and football while raising his children in Franklin, NH. Down time was quickly filled with family camping trips, fishing, and playing “taxi” for the kids! He was a passionate Celtics fan, rarely missing a game. In recent years he enjoyed researching family genealogy, tracing family lineage back to The Mayflower in 1624, and Salem, Ma in 1692.
He and his loving wife enjoyed hiking, summiting Mount Washington just a few years ago; snow skiing in the Adirondack, White, and Rocky Mountain ranges; and the wanderlust of travel. Recently, they fulfilled a lifelong dream of road tripping to Alaska; visiting dozens of National Parks, geological attractions, and historical monuments. Other epic journeys include Ireland, a Red Sox game in London, and countless adventures with their grandchildren, who they love dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Anne Catherine Allen, together raising three wonderful children; Joshua Allen and wife Treva of St. Petersburg, FL; Matthew Wall of Falls Church, VA; Leah Fallon and husband Rob with their children Addy and Cady of Leesburg, VA; brother, Bill Allen and his wife Mary Ann with his children Bill, Eric, and Paige; sister, Joyce Goodwin and her husband Dana with their children Dana and Lisa; brother Gary Allen and brother Dennis Allen; along with many great nieces and nephews, dear friends, associates, and teammates.
A memorial service, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the Jefferson Chapel in Ranson, WV. Pastor Jeremy Todd will be officiating. Inurnment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers can be received at Jefferson Chapel. Donations may be made in memory of Leonard Allen to the American Cancer Society.

Albert Lee Cates - November 28, 1934 - December 29, 2023

Obituary Preview: Albert Lee Cates, aged 89, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023, in the Veterans’ Administration Hospice with his son and his wife by his side.
Albert was born in Hughes County, Oklahoma on November 28, 1934, to Augusteen Elizabeth Howard Cates and William Louis Cates, both deceased. He leaves behind his wife, Irene, his son, David, and wife Clara, his daughter Melissa, and husband David Doogan, and two grandchildren, Emily Cates and Alison Cates. He also leaves behind a brother, Julian Cates, and his wife Sarah, a sister, Ruby Hendrix, and her husband, Bill, and many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, a large extended family, and good friends he made over the years. Albert was predeceased by a brother, Cecil Cates, and a sister, Lois Green and her husband, Alpha Green.
During his working life, Albert served in the U.S. Army and worked as a civil engineer on numerous construction projects in America and around the world. Over the years, he worked for the US AID branch of the U.S. Department of State, various private companies and for state and city governments. Since moving to Charles Town in the mid-1990s, Albert has enjoyed volunteering in the community wherever he could help. He especially enjoyed helping out in Ruritan’s food booth at the fair every year.
The family would like to thank all those in the Veterans’ Administration Hospice and Hospice of the Panhandle, as well as those in the Veterans’ Administration Hospital, and Jefferson and Martinsburg Hospitals who helped him through this final illness.

He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. He was a postman in Italy and a stone mason.
Roberto is survived by his wife of 14 years, Valerie Moreno; his children: Sabrina, Alessandra, Adriano, Alexa, Devonna, Jonathan, and Benjamin; his grandchildren: Luigi, Roberto, Francesco, Federica, Aidan, Guilia, Sevi, Val, and Isabella; his siblings: Marisa, Anna Maria, Mario, and Daniela, and loved family members: Monia, Antonio, Cristiano, Massimiliano, Andrea, Veronica, Sacha, and Yuri.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Adriana.
A memorial service will be held 6 pm, Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home with Father Timothy Grassi officiating. Interment will be private.

Carolyn Sue Watson - November 09, 1939 - December 19, 2023

Obituary Preview: Carolyn “Sue” Watson went to be with the Lord and her children Rob and Amy on Tuesday, December 19, under the care of her loving family and Hospice of the Panhandle.
Left behind to cherish the memories of Sue are Robert “Bob” Watson, her husband of 62 years, daughters Kelly (Tom) and Erin Watson, grandchildren, Brad Watson (Ryan), Lindsay Dillow (Derrick), Brittany Watson (Katie), Bethany Neco (Jon) and Madeline Dillow, and great grandchildren, Hayden, Hailey, Kaden, Brayden, Landon, Addi, Ezra, and Tate. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Jo Nida and Peggy Perry as well as former daughter-in-law, Dawn, and husband Mike Carlisle, who were very dear to her.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Priscilla Lester, brother, Jerry Lester, son. Rob Watson, and daughter, Amy Dillow.
Sue graduated from West Fairmont High School in 1957 and went on to graduate with a diploma from the Fairmont Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. Sue worked at Charles Town General Hospital for 10 years, then worked at the Martinsburg VAMC for a total of 20 years, mainly in psychiatry. She retired in 2001, and then she and Bob enjoyed spending time with family and traveling to Bradenton, Florida every winter.
Sue was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, in Charles Town, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Praise Choir, served as a youth leader, and was part of the United Methodist Women and Secret Sisters Group. Sue will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who will remember her cooking and baking skills, and most of all, her unconditional love.
The family will receive friends at Asbury United Methodist Church on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 6-8 pm and 10 am Saturday, December 23, 2023. The celebration of life will follow at 11 am with Pastor Duane Jenson and Rev. Dr. Melissa C. Rudolph officiating.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters: Samira and Bryonni Duobert, of Virginia; one brother, Jhan Duobert, and one sister, July Davila, and husband Julio, of Ranson.

She is survived by sons, Steve J. Holiskey of Martinsburg and James “Dusty” Holiskey and wife Tina of Bunker Hill, daughter, Maxine Householder, and husband Eric, and bonus daughter, Charlene Pitman, brothers Mark Wallen, and wife Janet of Newark, Delaware and Gary Wallen, of California, sister, Janet Simione, of Delaware, and Joan’s companion of 47 years, Earl H. McCormick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Dean Heck and sister Barbara Fisher. Funeral services will be held 1 pm Friday, December 22, 2023, at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Joyce was of the Baptist faith. She was a wonderful mother who loved her family, baking, and animals. She had worked for Loudoun County Public Schools as a custodian.
She is survived by two sons: Charles “Jody” Price, of Hedgesville, and Brooks Price, and wife Shannon, of Winchester; two daughters: Brenda Burk, and husband Alfred, of Hedgesville, and Cherokee Moshier and husband Rusty, of Charles Town; two sisters: Nina Mahoney, of Ranson, and Doris Harpine, of East Dublin, Georgia; ten grandchildren: Arthur Watson, Christopher Watson, Jason Watson, Ryan Price, Kaitlin Davis, and husband Andrew, Rachael Wilt, Amy Wilt, George Burke, Wyatt Moshier, and Roen Moshier, and three great grandchildren: Logan, Isabele, and Brooklynn.

She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She liked going to BINGO and loved her two dogs, Lady and Spot. She will be deeply missed.
Joy is survived by her companion of 35 years, Pete Paulson, of Augusta, Georgia; two sons: Shaun Langford, also of Augusta, and Bert Mayson, and wife Lisa, of Tennessee; one daughter, Jessica Langford, of Augusta; two brothers: Willard Jackson, and companion Debbie Macomber, and Mervin Jackson, and companion Bridgett Seal, all of Harpers Ferry; one sister, Retha Cogle, of Charles Town; seven grandchildren: Danny and Caleb Langford, Brandon Schell, Luke Mayson, Brian Scheetz, and Brooklyn and Brianna Sousa; one great grandson, Preston Langford, sisters-in-law, Barbara Jackson and Robin Jackson, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He had a very strong faith in God and attended Charles Town Baptist Church. He graduated from Charles Town High School. He served in the Air Force. He loved fishing, hunting, playing softball, and being outdoors. He worked at the VA Medical Center as the Food Service Supervisor.
He is survived by two sons: Harold William Gray, and wife Debbie, and Paul Gray, and wife Ronda, all of Ranson; one adopted daughter, Jody Penwell, also of Ranson; one sister, Betty McHenry, and husband Bobby, of Shepherdstown; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and one great great granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Viola Heishman Gray; two brothers and one sister.
A graveside service will be held 1pm, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Kye was owner/ operator of her own hair salon in Ranson and Charles Town for 43 years. She was of the Catholic faith. She was also a member of the DAR.
She is survived by her five children: Bret Thatcher (Karen), Kymberlee Perrella (Gary), Sheryl Weller (Fred), Tonja Jones (Jon), and Nikki Mason (Jimmy); her grandchildren: Ashley Thatcher, Garrett Perrella, Kyle Perrella, Derek Smith, Brittany French, Cassaundra Shawyer, Toni D’Angelo, Brandon D’Angelo, and Jacob Mason; two great grandchildren: Brinka and Persphonie, and a loving sister, Joyce Moore.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Loyd; her daughter, Kelly Marie Thatcher; brother, Daniel R. “Danny” Nichols, one nephew and two nieces.
Graveside services will be private to her children and grandchildren. She will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown, WV.

Born June 18, 1931, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of the late Floyd William Bailey and Louise Burke Banks. Estelle was a member of the Wainwright Baptist Church for over 38 years. She served on the usher board and sang in the senior choir. She was educated in Jefferson County Schools and a graduate of the former Page-Jackson High School. She managed the Circle Motel for many years for the Shade family. She also was employed with NPS in Harpers Ferry as a custodian for several seasons.
She is survived by son, Michael Douglas Clinton (Sondra) of Hyattsville, Maryland; daughter Robin Butler of Charles Town; sister, Julia Harrison; granddaughter Katina and other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She also leaves to cherish her memory close friends Jean Roberts and Barbara Smith, as well as many others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gary Steven Clinton, brother, Stanley William Bailey and sister, Janet Cecelia Bailey.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Jefferson Chapel with the Rev. Walter A. Jackson, III officiating. There will be a private burial at the Fairview Cemetery, Gibsontown.

Edrie was of the Christian faith. She was a loving mother and a hard worker. She liked roller skating and loved watching the wildlife around her home and feeding the squirrels.
She is survived by her son, William W. White, Jr., of Middleway; three daughters: twins, Debra K. Ring, and husband Kenneth, and Constance F. Seal, and husband Richard, all of Middleway, and Tammy E.
