Obituary Preview: Shirley Ann Bowlds Vanover, 85, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 while under the care of the Heartford House. She was born on December 31, 1938 to the late Leo and Anna Belle Howard Bowlds. She was a homemaker and the mother of her four children by their late father, Raymond E. Canary. She raised them and put them through high school. She then married Melvin C. Vanover and were together for 38 years. She was a member of Nickle Ridge Pentecostal church for 15 years and was a substitute piano player for the church and also could play the tambourine. She was also a member of Little Flock Holiness Church where she played piano as well.
Shirley was preceded in death by three brothers, Martin Leo Bowlds Jr., Martin Cecil Bowlds, and Rodney Bowlds; her late husband, Melvin C. Vanover who passed in 2012; and her son, Allan Canary in January 2024.
Survivors include her two daughters, Becky Jolly (Jay) of Owensboro and Tammy Johnson (Rev. Troy) of Corning, AR; son, Curtis Canary (Stephanie) of Utica, KY; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Virgil Bowlds (Connie) of Owensboro, James ‘Jimbo’ Bowlds (Judy) of Utica and Billy Joe Bowlds (Carolyn Ann) of Utica; and sister, Carolyn Dickens (Ronnie) of Calhoun.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Nickel Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Bob was a police officer for the Louisville Police Department for 29 years, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of TPA. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to gospel music.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Baker White; three sons, John White (Jenny) of Texas, Steve White (Amy) of Washington, and Mark White (Lorie) of Illinois; daughter, Donna Bickwermert (Robert Bray); grandchildren, Christine, Zoe, Ava, Bryan, Sarah, Emily, Daniel, Cheyenne Prater (Elzie), Rheanna Bray, KayesLeigh Bray; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Kayelee, Tammy, and Clay Prater and Christopher Bray; and a half-sister, Loraine Edwards.

Obituary Preview: Shirley Hines, 89, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024. She was born in Daviess County on January 15, 1935, to the late Howard and Marzella "Jack" Krahwinkel. Shirley attended Christ Community Church and was a long-time member of Karns Grove Baptist Church. She retired from Philpot Elementary School and then enjoyed volunteering at the Owensboro Christian Church Common Good Community Store. Shirley also enjoyed her card and bunco groups and spending time with her beloved dog, Zoey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Sonny” Hines and her siblings, Billy Joe Krahwinkel, Howard Krahwinkel, and Betty Krahwinkel Paris.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Larry Catron and Sheri and Scott Plain; sisters-in-law, Josephine Hines and Cevilla Krahwinkel; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the wonderful employees of Wellington Parc, Cedarhurst Memory Care, and the Owensboro Health Emergency Room and Third Floor medical teams.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2024, at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is from noon until 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

She was born January 26, 1930 in Daviess County to the late Josh and Myrtle Harris Powers. Bertha was a faithful member of Glenville Baptist Church where she was a longtime Preschool Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed arranging flowers from her garden for the church sanctuary. Bertha also sang in the choir and visited the homebound.
Bertha was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother and an excellent homemaker. She loved to cook meals and host holiday celebrations for her family in her home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Ralph Jr.; son, Mark Ralph; and siblings, Ozetta Huff, Marjorie Fenwick, Hazel Powers, Nancy Caplin, Omegene Powell, Jane Byrne, Evelyn Marquis, Betty McGrew, James Powers, Harry Powers, Josh Thomas Powers, Walter Powers, and Jerry Powers.

John Michael "Mike" Pippin - September 16, 1948 - April 30, 2024

Obituary Preview: John Michael “Mike” Pippin, 75, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Owensboro on September 16, 1948. Mike was a graduate of Owensboro High School, Class of 1967, where he found the love of his life, Karen. Their union lasted an incredible 57 years, a testament to their enduring bond and
devotion to each other. Throughout his career, Mike worked as a welder and pipefitter for Texas Gas, where he retired after 40 years of service.
Mike's true joy came from the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found on his front porch in his rocking chair, or riding his golf cart around the yard hunting for moles with his trusty shotgun. Mike was a betting man, who enjoyed playing slot machines at the casino. A devoted dog lover, he cherished the companionship of his many four-legged friends over the years. One of his favorite pastimes was spending quality time with Karen at the kitchen table, where they shared countless moments watching old Westerns and enjoying each other's company.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vivian Kirk Pippin, and his sister, Mildred Pippin.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Karen; his sons John Michael “Mike” Pippin II, and Andy (Marjie) Pippin; sisters-in-law, Connie Cook and Janie Roberts; four grandchildren, John Michael “Trey” (Madeline) Pippin III, Haley (Colton) Burden, Hunter Pippin, and Seth Pippin; along with his four great-grandchildren, Addesyn Burden, Weston Burden, Sawyer Pippin, and John Michael (Ford) Pippin IV.
Mike's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.

He was born August 15, 1940 in Owensboro to the late Arthur Chapman Moseley and Martine Wimsatt Moseley. Tommy was a U.S. Air Force 20-year retiree. He was awarded the Longevity Service Award and Commendation Medal. Tommy loved bowling and softball that he played until he was 79. He had a great dry sense of humor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Farmer and Pat Walt.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Sharon Moseley; three sons, Craig Moseley (Heather), Roger Moseley, and Kirk Moseley; two grandchildren, Braden Moseley and Seaver Moseley; stepdaughter, Melissa McNair (Brian); two step-grandchildren, Megan Steinbergs and Diana Palacios; and a sister, Paula Dian Gaddis.

Mildred Yvonne "Yonnie" Wight - September 05, 1931 - April 29, 2024

Obituary Preview: Mildred Yvonne "Yonnie" Wight, 92, of Owensboro, Kentucky peacefully passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Carmel Home. She was born September 5, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky to Ballard and Fanna Coates and was raised in Bardstown, Kentucky.
Yonnie graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing with an Associate degree. Her education continued with both BSN and MSN degrees from the University of Evansville.
She began her career as a staff nurse at General Electric before her employment at Mercy Hospital where she started the Goldencare program (now known as Connections). Yonnie was an EMT and CPR instructor. She worked as a nursing instructor and clinical educator at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Western Kentucky University and Owensboro Community and Technical College. She so enjoyed working with her students, often tutoring them in her free time to prepare for their licensure examination. Yonnie was also a volunteer for Hospice of Western Kentucky. She concluded her career as the Director of Nursing at the Carmel Home where she worked for approximately 10 years. Yonnie was an avid duplicate bridge player throughout her life. She was a charter member and elder of Century Christian Church where she sang in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Wight Jr. M.D. and a son, Frank H. Wight III.
Those surviving to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Sheryl Schell of Dallas, Texas and Karen Wight (Adrian Clay Boyd) of Owensboro; her son, Bill Wight (Tammy) of Owensboro; her granddaughter, Leigh Schell of Louisville; her grandsons, Stephen Schell of Dallas, Texas, F. Hunter Wight IV of Naples, Florida, and Francis Colton Wight of Owensboro; and a daughter-in-law, Terri Wight of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sorgho. Visitation will from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Faye entered this world proudly on February 8, 1943. Her sisters, Mary Lucille, Sarah Mae, and Carolyn, were all there to welcome her into a loving family. Gerald came later and grew up with all the girls. They all lived happily in Livia, KY with Gladys Alberta Williams Pruden and Henry Herman Pruden. Faye graduated from DCHS in 1961 and worked several years at the Daviess County Hospital and for Houston and Mary Marks.

Obituary Preview: Wanda Faye (Shelton) Newcom of Owensboro passed away on April 28, 2024, at the Heartford House, after a lengthy illness at Wellington Parc of Owensboro, KY. She was born in Livia, KY on July 4, 1939 to the late Ervin and Agnes (Davis) Shelton. She graduated from Utica High School in 1958, attended classes at Brescia College, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Wanda, known to her family as Faye, loved children and worked as a teacher’s aide in the Owensboro Public School system for twenty years. After retiring in 1991, she devoted herself to her grandchildren and to fund-raising efforts for the Charles Shelton Memorial. She loved to play bunko, was quick to tell you exactly what was on her mind, and was always ready to laugh and have fun.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Curtice Lee Newcom, her grandson, Evan Keith Bridges, and her seven siblings: Mary Jane Shelton, James Shelton, Edward Shelton, William Franklin Shelton, Charles Shelton, Dorthy Bradley, and Larry Shelton.
She is survived by her son, Curt Newcom (Lisa); her daughter, Lisa Neel (Leason); two granddaughters, Jade Bridges of Owensboro and Abby Nyquist (Austin) of Florida; and five great-grandchildren: Jasmine Bridges, Noah Hale, Rhodes Nyquist, Oliver Bridges, and Wells Nyquist.
Services will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Lena was born June 16, 1932, in Ohio County to the late Elmer & Eva Rearden. Lena worked at General Electric and then MPD for 43 years before her retirement. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church & in later years attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Ohio County where she grew up. She loved shopping trips with her sisters, family dinners at Moon-Lite, and family reunions at Legion Park.
In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Smiley in 1998; baby sister Shirley Jean in 1937; brother, Mike Rearden in 2019; and sister, Anne Smith in 2020.
Those left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lana and son-in-law Eric Dryer; grandchildren, Courtney and Brad Dryer, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; sisters, Betty Hoover of Hartford, Earlene (Johnny) Haynes of Columbus, Georgia, and Lydia (Chester) Phelps of Owensboro; brothers, Paul Rearden of Hartford and E.J. Rearden (Bettie) of Owensboro; many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at Mt. Moriah’s Lake Family Cemetery on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 1 p.m. with Brother Tim Smith officiating. James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Julie Pierce; daughters, Tiffany Tindle (Jeff) and Jennifer Pierce; son, Jay Ratley (Nichole); grandchildren, Evan Tindle, Colin Tindle, Adam Tindle (Seybree), and Addy Ratley; great-granddaughter, Freyja Tindle; sister, Louise Head (Mack Estes); and his feline companion, Minnie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandsons, Jaren Campbell and Matt Welsh; and his siblings, James “Jim” Thompson, Bill Thompson, John Thompson, Donald “Doodlebug” Thompson, Libby Zimmerman Howard, Betty Drury, JoAnn Hedges, Peggy Wright, Margie Whitney, and Beulah Duke.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Cassandra Thompson; children, Chris Rhinerson, Shawn Rone, Tara Campbell, David Thompson Jr. (Kay), Steve Thompson (Kathy Gardner), John Thompson (Elizabeth), and Jennifer Lee (Dale); 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Brittney Thompson, Adeline Fulkerson, Kara Foster, and the staff at Hospice of Western Kentucky for the wonderful care they all gave David.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judi Lopez.
Survivors include her husband, Barry Walker; children, Shannon Becker, Henry Jason Willner, and Jereme Willner; stepchildren, Mary Rosas and Sarah Campbell; grandchildren, Kathryn Gross, Jacob Gross, Hannah Willner, Bella Willner, Ashlyn Willner, and Jayne Campbell; great-grandchildren, Lyla- Rose Rowell and Henry Hudson Willner; and a brother, Bruce Ryan, along with nieces and nephews, Reine Gessner, Robert Lopez and Chad Ryan.
Lynn was a committed follower of Christ and a true woman of God with a servant's heart especially for the downtrodden or hurting. She had served as a leader of the Rebuilders Divorce Recovery Group at Owensboro Christian Church, mentor and group leader for Celebrate Recovery, and in many roles in the Walk to Emmaus Retreat community. She was a member of BridgePointe Church and had previously attended both Owensboro Christian and Settle Memorial Churches for many years.
In her free time, she enjoyed using her creative talents making vases and other crafts that she sold annually at the Reid's Apple Festival, where she was a regular. She also enjoyed gardening with her husband as well as birdwatching and exploring the great outdoors.
Lynn had most recently been employed as a caregiver for Home Instead but had also worked as the manager for Smith and Butterfield Office Supply Company downtown for many years. She also enjoyed her time working for the Neblett Center and Sullivan, Mountjoy, Stainback and Miller. Everyone knew her favorite bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry E. Wahler, 72, of Owensboro passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 9, 1951 in Owensboro to the late George and Margaret Tierney Wahler. He was a 1969 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and went on to study at Owensboro Business College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He was an Army Veteran and was of the Catholic faith. As a teenager, he started working at Old Homestead and retired from Reliable Mechanical in Louisville, Kentucky after 42 years. Barry met the love of his life, Paula, when they were 10 years old. They were married on February 27, 1971. He enjoyed playing cards, horse racing, and using all the new cooking gadgets he could get to cook for his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George Bernard and Jeffrey Wahler; sister, Mary Beth Harrington; and very special nephews, Steve Wahler and Mike Settle.
Left with beautiful memories to cherish are his wife of 53 years, Paula Pate Wahler; children, Kristie Krampe (Boo), Melissa Wahler Payne, and Colby Wahler; five grandchildren, Tierney, Zhane, Breckley, Lexi, and Austin; four great-grandchildren, Hudson, Evy, Quill and Haylee Shay; sister, Kaye Wahler Hall; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Beulah’s Earthly journey began on June 9, 1943 when she was born to the late Mary Helen and Glenn Cornell in Webster County, West Virginia. After graduating Richwood High School, she moved to Washington D.C. where she met and married the love of her life, James H. Nelson.
After retiring from Daviess County High School, she enjoyed tending to her garden, watching her great-granddaughters, cooking homemade meals and caring for pets and family. She’s famously known for her Christmas candy.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Patrick “Jake” Nelson; brother, Jack Cornell; and her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, James H. Nelson; children, James Nelson Jr., Denise Nelson, and John (Jenny) Nelson, all of Owensboro; grandchildren, Samantha (Cody) Cail, Johnny Nelson, Hunter Nelson, and Dylan Nelson; great-grandchildren, Elaina Cail and Emila Cail; brother, Glenn “Buster” Cornell; sisters, Barbara Hawthorne and Betty Jo Barker; and several nieces and nephews; in-laws and closest friends.

Ray was born August 9, 1936, in Rochester, KY to the late George and Cordie Peay. He moved to Owensboro and worked at Johnny’s Dollar Saver and Red Front Foods where he met his late wife of 64 years, Ella Mae Daily. He retired in 1998 from a long career as a carpenter at the Murphy Miller Chair Company, now HON Corporation.
Ray was a kind and faithful man who deeply cared for his family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and fixing cars in his spare time. He loved to travel with his family, taking many trips with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. One of his favorite places to visit was Gatlinburg, TN, where he loved to enjoy the nature of the Smoky Mountains. He cared for his childhood home in Rochester and helped to organize regular gatherings for the Peay family.
Ray was a faithful Christian who was a member of First General Baptist Church of Owensboro and has recently attended Yellow Creek Baptist Church. He spent many years volunteering to support church youth groups and Vacation Bible School. He also loved to attend gospel singings and travel with Ella Mae and her siblings Jim and Brenda Daily and Lony and Henrietta Thomson.
He is reunited in Heaven with his wife and parents, as well as 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by sister, Augusta Wells; daughters, Debbie (John) Roberts, Paige (Dennis) Young, and Heather (Bob) Clark; grandchildren Rebecca (Jon) Martin, Robert Mason (Karli) Clark, and Emmy Young; great-granddaughter, Elayna Martin; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Thomson and Brenda Daily; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Regina was born on June 9, 1933, in Guffie, Kentucky to the late Roy Hagerman and Annie Myrtle Myles Hagerman. Regina was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four (54) years, Charlie L. Jennings of Owensboro, Kentucky. Surviving members of her family include Regina's sister, Hazel M. Hagerman Wilson; Regina's four sons, Byron K. Jennings (Pam) of Aiken, South Carolina; Greg A. Jennings (Kathy); Steven Brent Jennings (Lisa) of Nicholasville, Kentucky; and Kevin M. Jennings of Owensboro, Kentucky; several grandchildren (Michael, Lauren, Sarah, Jacob, Luke and Faith), one great-grandchild, Cecilia Yff, step-grandchildren (Brandy, Chrissy and Amy), step-great grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
Regina worked with Charlie in their home accounting and bookkeeping practice for many years. Regina was a practicing Christian and active in her church, First Baptist Church of Owensboro, Kentucky, where she sang in the choir and also sang in the annual Messiah. Regina also loved to play golf, tennis and basketball and was the captain of the girl's basketball team from Owensboro High School where she graduated. Regina enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky. Finally, Regina loved to travel and was a great cook. Most importantly, Regina was a great mother and grandmother and will be missed by her sons.
A special thanks to Regina's niece, Brenda Zuerner, who would bring Regina's sister Hazel to visit and eat at Moonlite with Regina and also brought Hazel to the hospital to be with her sister one last time before Regina went to heaven. Another special thanks to Kevin Jennings who enjoyed helping our mother by going grocery shopping, taking her to doctor's appointments, cooking for her or taking her to restaurants, cleaning her house and using Regina's riding mower to mow and maintain her yard as it became more difficult for her to be able to walk.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory officiated by Pastor Paul Strahan. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Thomas Westerfield, Bobby Westerfield, Larry Westerfield, and Wanda Murphy.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 60 years, Phyllis Westerfield; children, Wayland Westerfield (Michelle), Glenda Haston (Wendell) and Matthew Westerfield (Kristina); grandchildren, Ashley Westerfield, Alicia Choi (Will), Colten Westerfield, Mason Westerfield, Emily Westerfield, and Brandon Wilson; great-grandchild, Beau Cockrell; and sister, Judy Chapman.
