Polly Calhoun - October 18, 1939 - April 24, 2024

Departed: 04/24/2024 (Fultonville)
Obituary Preview: Mary “Polly” Calhoun, 84, of Fonda, NY, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 18, 1939 to the late Allen B. Willand and Mary “Emeline” (Burnham) Willand.
Polly was born in Pittsfield, MA, and moved to Fonda in 1953. She attended Fonda-Fultonville Central School and although she was only in Fonda for four short years, she graduated as the Valedictorian of her class in 1957. She went on to attend Colby-Sawyer Junior College before coming back home to Fonda to begin a family. Polly was an avid reader, a gifted writer and one who loved to “play”. She also loved to challenge herself with word games and was still able to beat anyone who dared to challenge her in Scrabble. She was considered a grammar pro, and spent her life making sure that her family members “toed the mark” when it came to speaking and writing correctly (which in some cases was a lost cause.)
On February 14, 1974, she married Edward Calhoun. They shared the next 48 years together enjoying their camp on the Sacandaga and going on many unforgettable trips. Polly was an active member of the Fonda Reformed Church and was recently recognized for 67 years of membership, which was something she was very proud of. She worked for 27 years as a legal secretary for Edgar Leonhardt, and 30 years as a Court Attendant at the Montgomery County Courthouse. Although she loved to go to work, she always said her most “important job” was raising her children Allen and Linda. However, her “favorite” job was spending time with Brett, Kyle, Mike, Heather, Allana, Cole and Morgan because they were the ones who called her “Mimi.”
Polly is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Edward. She is survived by her loving family including her son, Allen Calhoun (Butch); her daughter, Linda Hanson (Alan); her step-son, Timothy Calhoun; her sister, Nancy Dodge; her brother, Charles Willand; her grandsons, Brett and Kyle Hanson and her great grandson Wells Hanson, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Calling hours are from 12:00-2:00pm with the funeral service immediately following at 2pm at Jackson & Betz (now Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart) Family Funeral Home, 15 Main St, Fultonville, NY. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Frothingham Free Library - 28 W. Main Street, PO Box 746, Fonda, NY 12068. Online condolences can be made at www.brbsfuneral.com

Nikola Majstorovic - December 05, 1963 - March 21, 2024

Departed: 03/21/2024 (Fultonville)
Obituary Preview: A SACRED HOMECOMING
Nikola Majstorovic departed this life on Thursday, March 21, 2024, peacefully after suffering a massive heart attack.
Nikola was born on December 5th, 1963, to Zivorad and Rosa Majstorovic in Munich Germany. Upon graduating from High School in Munich Germany, he worked as a Graphic Designer and sometimes assisted in his family’s restaurant, until coming to America in 1993.
On February 1, 1994, Nikola married Sylvia P. Barnes a receptionist, in New Yor City, NY. Their love story began while they worked on a play at the Bacca Theatre in Brooklyn Heights, NY. He was the lighting Director, and she was the costume/makeup Designer. The production team was from around the world. This is where Nikola and Sylvia shared their 1st cup of “Japanese Sencha Green Tea”.
Nikola then worked at Mount Sinai Hospital’s Graduate School for 22 years, as an IT Technician to Doctor/Scientist/Administration. In 2009, Nikola & his wife purchased a home upstate in Fultonville, New York—he continued to commute to NYC until 2018, when he resigned.
In 2019, Nick worked for Ricoh, USA as a Field Specialist 1—Advanced Industrial Printing, until his passing. He was very dedicated to his job and his teammates. He believed in hard work and getting the job done with precision. He celebrated five years with the company on February 11, 2024.
Nikola enjoyed building his own iron stoves; thanks to his Grandad, a coal miner in Serbia (early 1900’s) (that used COAL), riding on his tractor cutting grass, clearing snow, listening to smooth jazz and designing on his computer. He also played guitar with an R&B band in NYC, and he loved politics. The nature of upstate brought him peace and his love for our “FURRY—Babygirl—“Sahara”…she is our child. His love for Jazz and Rock; Frank Zappa, Jimmy Hendrix & Carlos Santana, was major. On his 60th birthday, Nikola & Sylvia shared their last cup of Japanese Sencha Green Tea, in Saratoga, NY. Their love of music was the biggest thread to their hearts.
Ultimately, he designed a multi-faceted harmonic method for playing piano keyboards. He engineered, designed and built a complex keyboard protype which he worked on for over 10 years. His creation would allow everyone to play piano without having to remember hundreds of chord fingering techniques. He believed playing piano was too complicated and wanted to introduce a simpler version of playing piano.
Nikola was predeceased by his parents; Zivorad Majstorovic and Rosa Majstorvic. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia P Barnes; sister, Natalia Majstorovic; nephew, Luca Majstorovic; three Sister in Laws; Millicent Hagans, Jacqueline Pugh, Gloria Barnes-Jenkins; his Furry Daughter, SAHARA; cousins, family and friends.
Nikola or Nick – your everlasting spirit of warmth and kindness as a gentle, quiet genius and a beautiful (old soul) will continue to warm our hearts when we say your name. We will always honor your connection to nature and the “power of intuition”.
Calling hours for Nikola will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 4pm until 7, funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd at 11am with Fr. Juanito Asprec officiating, both will be held at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aprill 11th, 2024 at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville.
Our beloved Nikola—may you rest peacefully.

He also played basketball on the Minerva Town Team and was an avid bowler in multiple bowling leagues in North Creek and Lowville. He proudly shared photos, trophies and stories of his athletic accomplishments with his children and grandchildren over the years.
Leo served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in December 1954. Upon discharge from the Army, he received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation.
For most of his life, Leo worked as a welder and laborer in the construction field. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 158 and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 236. He traveled for work wherever he was needed. In 1970, while working for a construction company in Old Forge, New York, he purchased the Gaiety Theatre in Inlet and operated it with his wife, Marcia, and their children for several years. He meticulously restored antique and classic cars and trucks. Leo also loved to cook.
