Obituary Preview: Kathleen Jo Parker, 64, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 6th, 1958, to Jack Allen McCray and Melba Schubnell.
Kathy McCray Parker had a heart of gold and was a compassionate friend to everyone she met, especially those who were struggling in life. She had a soft spot for the underdog. Kathy didn’t judge others for what they “did or didn’t have” but for who they were. She was the type of person who would give you the shirt off her back if she thought she could help you through a tough situation. Although Kathy was great at her job and a professional at work, all those who knew her would say she missed her true calling and that she would’ve been a star stand- up comedienne. Kathy had an awesome sense of humor. She was the one who could always lighten the room and bring everyone to laughter! Kathy loved her daughter, Kortney, and her three grandchildren, Alana, Jayda, and Daylen, with all her heart. The loss of her dear husband, Leonard Parker, was very hard on Kathy and took a toll on her health as well.
Kathy was eventually able find happiness and companionship in her partner, Steve Dodson, who was with her until her death.
Kathy is survived by two sisters, Darla Kolodzieij (Dan), Rhonda Moneymaker (Fred); one brother, Bob Schubnell; her three grandchildren, Alana Spaulding, Jayda Curtis, and Daylen Curtis; many nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family and many lifelong friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Melba and Robert Schubnell, her husband, Leonard Parker, her daughter, Kortney Marie McCray (Doug), and her brother Jack McCray (Carolyn).
There will be a celebration of life on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel.

Lila graduated from high school in 1951. She attended Briar Cliff College from 1962 – 1966 graduating with honors. She did this with 3 children in grade school and working full time night shift at her grandma’s nursing home. She received her Master’s Degree (summa cum laude) in 1970, while working full time and with 4 children at home. She taught English and Spanish at Riverside High School/ West High School in Sioux City, Iowa. Teaching was her passion. She was an excellent teacher; loved by all her students (except the ones she flunked). She moved to Indiana in 1974 and worked at American United Life where she retired in 1988.
She was an amazing and feisty woman. She had a very high IQ but no common sense. She was sarcastically hilarious and had no filter. She was an excellent athlete - bowling, golf, baseball. She was appalled that her daughters ‘threw like a girl.’ She was not an outwardly affectionate person, yet every single one of us knew we were loved. Her favorite things to do: spending time with family, watching birds, football (Go Colts), golf, Jeopardy, The Chase (she knew MOST of the answers), Word Game Shows, and Forensic files - she always knew ‘who done it’.
She was very active but had health challenges late in life. She survived open heart surgery, lung cancer and COVID (twice). She had Rheumatoid Arthritis, COPD, Bell’s Palsy and diverticulitis. Her doctors called her a tough old bird. Her grandmother’s maiden name was Buzzard so they were correct.
When asked, what is the meaning of life? Her response was, “Leave behind good memories.” She did! Her memory will always be cherished.
Flowers or plants are appreciated or for those who wish to make donations, the family asks that the donation be sent to Ways to Give - IndyHumane.

Frederick Aaron Seddon Jr. - January 04, 1938 - May 03, 2022

Departed: 05/03/2022 (Greenwood)
Obituary Preview: Indianapolis – Frederick Aaron Seddon, Jr. (Fred), age 84, passed away on May 3rd, 2022, surrounded by his children. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, sibling, uncle, son, brother-in-law, and a friend to all. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on January 4th, 1938, to the late Frederick and Florence Seddon. He and his late wife Jackie Lee Seddon spent 47 years of marriage in the Indianapolis, IN area. He was an older sibling to the late Carol Smetana and brother Gary Seddon.
Fred spent his youth in Northeastern Ohio until settling in the town of Newbury, Ohio in his high school years. He was a guard on the Newbury High School football team in which he helped lead the team to win the Geauga County Football Championship in 1954.
After graduating in 1955 Fred enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La where he spent that time in the Pacific Ocean working on aircraft and earning the rank of Aviation Fire Control Technician Petty Officer Second Class. He took great pride during his service in the US Navy. He had the utmost respect for all servicemen, servicewomen, and veterans.
In 1958 he returned to the Northeast Ohio area where he worked various jobs until relocating to Indianapolis in 1963 to start his career at Naval Avionics Center. He worked there for 30 years with most of those years as a supervisor for a large department that built radar systems. He retired in November 1993.
Fred loved to watch sports and was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He loved to play golf and always preferred to walk the course rather than ride in a golf cart (unless playing with his three sons who basically made him get a golf cart).
Fred loved to travel. He didn’t fly, he always wanted it to be road trips. When asked why he didn’t fly he would say “you get to see the real America on a road trip”. Before there was Google maps he sure knew how to navigate anywhere. When he would visit his children after they moved to various parts of the United States, he was always great at showing them landmarks, important historical areas, state parks and national parks for those kids of his that didn’t know these places existed. He loved a day road trip to some of the off the beaten path towns in Indiana.
He loved visiting battlefields. The Civil War battlefields and Revolutionary War battlefields always intrigued him. He made his wife Jackie, his kids, or even himself pose for photographs for embarrassing / fun pictures with statues at many of the sites he visited (and not just necessarily at battlefields). He was a fan of history to no end and read books constantly about this subject.
Fred’s favorite movie of all time was “Rebel Without a Cause”. Probably because he had that same James Dean cool factor.
Fred was a loving and caring man.
Fred loved to joke and laugh. He loved to tell a good joke and could make anyone laugh.
Fred had an infectious smile. Any room he entered, didn’t matter if the lights were on, he lit the room up.
Fred was a man of great Christian faith.
Fred was a spontaneous man, as he loved to surprise his loving wife, Jackie.
Fred and Jackie spent years dedicating their time and effort to selflessly clothing and feeding the homeless with Hope 4 2morrow. They gathered donations and distributed socks, hats, food and more, weekly for years.
Fred was a family man first. He loved his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred’s children, nieces and nephews, his cousins, his siblings, parents, in-laws, and friends all thought the world of him. Fred was preceded in death by wife Jackie, and daughter Karen Gerhardt. He is survived by children Lisa Sessions, James (Jerilyn) Gerhardt, Susan Rippe, Amber Seddon, Nancy Smith, Aaron (Patricia) Seddon, and William Seddon, as well as 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
We all miss and will always miss Fred, but we are happy he is no longer in the pain he suffered. But if anything, we are happy he made it to heaven in time to celebrate he and Jackie’s 50th wedding anniversary coming up in June.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who want to pay their respects. They help notify people of the person's passing, share details about their life, and offer an opportunity for loved ones to express their condolences.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with the writing process. What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, as well as any charities or organizations where donations can be made in the person's memory.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website it will be featured in. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be suitable for online publications or social media platforms.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Be prepared to provide all necessary details and proofread your submission carefully before submitting it.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to control how they want to be remembered. However, it's essential to keep in mind that the final version may need to be edited or modified by family members or funeral homes.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?
