Joseph Luke Landry - April 08, 1944 - March 17, 2024

Departed: 03/17/2024 (Franklin)
Obituary Preview: Joseph Landry - Patterson, Louisiana
Joseph Luke Landry passed peacefully from this earth to his heavenly resting place in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 17, 2024, two weeks shy of his 80th birthday. When he returned from the army he married Rosalind Cardinale from Patterson on January 27 th , 1968 and lived in Patterson where they raised four children: Christine, Lisa, Debbie, and Kent. Joey owned and operated the Western Auto store on Park St. in Patterson for over 25 years, and if you grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s in Patterson, there is a good chance that you rode one of the bikes that he put together by hand, used a piece of his sporting equipment, or ate his candy or chips which he sold from his glass encased counter. He was always there to help people with appliances, lawn mowers, or hardware. When he closed the store, he worked for his brother in law, Jeffrey Cardinal, at Cardinal Lumber, where he was a much sought after consultant and remained there until his
retirement.
During his long life in Patterson, Dad was a respected and valued member of the community. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he was a 4 th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, and was once a former Grand Knight. With the KC’s he bowled and played softball and was instrumental in their famous chicken barbecues and other charity endeavors. He also helped coach little league and Dixie Youth baseball.
He was loved by many and a friend to all, with an incredibly big heart and infectious laugh. In his younger years, he enjoyed cooking on Sundays—best known for his gumbo and fried chicken—and when something was good he would exclaim: “Close Dat Door!” He instilled in each of his children a love for the Saints, and win or lose, he would sit in his living room surrounded by family and friends and root them on. He saw the first ever Saints’ kickoff run back for a touchdown and became a life-long fan. He also enjoyed traveling, and his yearly, epic family vacations became the stuff of legend and left his family with a lifetime of memories.
In his later years, he enjoyed playing poker with his son and the entire Teche Poker Club where he was a past champion and player favorite. Joey also enjoyed movies, even though he could never remember any actors name and his children had to decipher who and what he was talking about, yet was well versed in politics and the issues of our time, always longing for Jesus to come and straighten things out.Joey was a simple man and faith-filled servant of God. One could set their moral compass by him and they would never be led astray. He was loving without being judgmental, forgiving without restraints, and giving without conditions. He was a shining example on how to live a Holy life.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at Ibert's Mortuary in Patterson, Louisiana in Joseph's honor on; Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 5:00 PM until time of The Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:30 PM, the gathering will conclude after at 8:00 PM. Departed: 03/08/2024 (Franklin)
Obituary Preview: Camille Francis Martin passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 81 at his home on Friday, March 8, 2024.
Camille was born on February 6, 1943 in Bayou Sale, LA. He was the youngest of six children born to the union of Clifford and Agnes Martin. Camille was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Germany during the Vietnam War.

Following his farming career, Camille went on to be a Chemical Salesman for 3-D Chemicals, eventually retiring in his late sixties. Even after his retirement he still enjoyed those early morning visits to Sterling Sugar Mill.
Camille was a Christian man who never met a stranger, enjoyed visiting with others, talking and telling jokes. He was the type of man who could fix just about anything he put his hands to, a much needed skill when working on a farm. He so enjoyed their weekly Friday gatherings with friends over a good meal. However, first and foremost was his love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known him.
His memory will forever live in the hearts of his loving wife, Carolyn B. Martin; his sons, Todd Martin and his wife Rachael; Troy Boucher and Jeff Morrow, and Todd Boucher and Dave Austria; his granddaughter, Coleen Martin and her financé Austin LeJeune; his grandson, Connor Martin and his fiancée Kaitlyn Romero; three great grandchildren, Claire LeJeune, Greer LeJeune, and Amelia Martin; his sister, Marian M. Ballard; his brother, Clifton "Kippy" Martin and his wife Julia; his brother-in-law, Gerald Comeaux; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Suellen Claiborne Martin; his parents, Clifford "Kip" Martin and Agnes Toups Martin; his siblings, Darrell Martin, Barbara M. Comeaux, and Clifford Martin Jr.; as well as many other family members whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00 AM. What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and acquaintances of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information about their passing. They help to notify people of the funeral or memorial service details, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences to the family.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in crafting the obituary, especially if the family needs guidance or support during this difficult time.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), surviving family members, and any notable achievements or accomplishments. It may also mention the funeral or memorial service details, including the date, time, location, and any special requests or instructions.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online platforms or self-published memorials.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the tribute and help readers remember the person who has passed away.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

To submit an obituary to a newspaper, you'll typically need to contact their obituary department directly. They will provide guidance on their submission process, word count limits, and any specific requirements for formatting and content.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to take control of how they want to be remembered. This can also help alleviate some of the burden on their loved ones during a difficult time.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

Can I edit or update an existing obituary?

In some cases, it may be possible to edit or update an existing obituary, especially if it was published online. However, this may not always be possible with traditional print newspapers.

What is a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement that informs readers of someone's passing. It typically includes only basic information such as the person's name, age, date of death, and funeral service details.

How does an obituary differ from a death notice?

An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life, including their biography, accomplishments, and surviving family members. A death notice is shorter and more concise, focusing primarily on the funeral service details.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous stories or personal anecdotes can help capture the personality and spirit of the person who has passed away.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive issues or complex family dynamics involved, it's essential to approach the obituary with tact and sensitivity. Consider consulting with other family members or a professional writer for guidance on how to navigate these situations.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the person who has passed away and continue their legacy.

How do I ensure accuracy when writing an obituary?

To ensure accuracy when writing an obituary, verify all information through reliable sources such as birth certificates, passports, or other official documents. Double-check dates, names, and spellings to avoid errors.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has been deceased for some time?

Yes! While it's more common to write an obituary shortly after someone's passing, there's no time limit on when you can publish one. This can be a therapeutic way to process your grief and celebrate the person's life even years later.

What is a living obituary?

A living obituary is a biographical sketch written about someone while they are still alive. This can be a unique way to celebrate their life achievements and milestones while they can still appreciate it.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be effective ways to share an obituary with a wider audience. You can also create a memorial page or group to collect condolences and memories.

How do I find archived obituaries from past years?

You can search online archives of newspapers or websites that specialize in storing historical records. Local libraries or genealogical societies may also have access to archived materials.

Can I republish an existing obituary at a later date?
