Gerald Ray Webber (Jerry) - June 01, 1948 - February 01, 2022

Departed: 02/01/2022 (Franklin)
Obituary Preview: Gerald Ray Webber Known as Jerry/Dad/Grandpa
Gerald was born June 1, 1948 in Minden, Nebraska, the first child of Phil and Val Jean Webber. He passed away at his home Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in Colby, Kansas at the age of 73. He grew up and graduated in Riverton, Nebraska with the Class of 1966. Gerald joined the Navy in 1967 where he served in Vietnam. While in the service he received letters from a young lady from Naponee, Nebraska. He fell in love. Gerald and Wanetta Jackson got married April 18, 1969. To this union eight children were born. Gerald worked multiple jobs and owned several businesses. He started at the Franklin County Sentinel, then was an outside maintenance man and bus driver for the school, he owned and operated a trash service, and worked for Franklin Motor Company. He always loved being involved in the community. He volunteered at the Fire Departments and joined the EMS. Gerald served in the National Guard 170th Maint. Unit. He also took on a “side job” building race cars. He had a friend who had a vehicle and he had an engine so he built a race car and drove it in a race. Unfortunately, his racing career never took him to NASCAR. He moved his family to Wilcox, Nebraska and worked as a janitor. The family moved to Gaylord, Kansas and he worked at the local school, was a city man and owned/operated a bar. Gaylord is a small town, population approximately 180 people where Gerald was a member of the FBI (Fat Boys Incorporated) along with Patrick Conrad and Robert Lark. This group was meant to help the citizens of Gaylord, earning them the first president’s award on Labor Day. Gerald moved his family to Kanorado, Kansas and while there, he was called to serve in the Desert Storm conflict in Iraq. In Kanorado he worked as a detention officer, city man, and with the EMS. At the time of his death, he was living in Colby, Kansas where he loved going to the B-hive along with spending time with his family. Gerald worked full time at the local Wal-Mart until he was called home. He was a husband, father, and grandpa. We say that Gerald has never met a stranger because when he met someone, he cared for the other and used the moment to build a relationship. We could count on him to be there when needed no matter the distance. He enjoyed going to every activity his grandchildren were in, taking road trips with fun “shortcuts” along the way, making sure he got his piece of cake out of the middle, and has made generations of the classic windmill game. He never really worked a day in his life because he always enjoyed everything he has done with his whole heart. He was preceded in death by his parents Phil and Val Jean, father-in-law Wayne Jackson, son Phillip Webber, infant son Gerald Webber, Jr., grandson Nathan Grabast, granddaughter Shanelle Padilla, nephews Jon Webber and Toby Spaulding, brother-in-law Val Reed, sister-in-law Elaine Jackson. Gerald is survived by his wife Wanetta Webber; six children: Vera Alewine, Jeannette Rust, Geri (Tom) Brown, Linda (Derek) Morse, Dawn Webber, Patrick (Charity) Webber; brother Don (Kathy) Webber; sisters Ellen (Gary) Davis and Joyce Weed; ten grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska with Jerrell Gerdes officiating. Interment was in Riverton Cemetery with Military Honors provided by US Naval Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 209, Franklin. Hutchins Funeral Home assisted the Webber family with these arrangements.

Leland N. Wentworth, Jr. - September 03, 1967 - December 13, 2021

Departed: 12/13/2021 (Franklin)
Obituary Preview: Cremation services were requested. Leland's book will be available for signing at the funeral home. Service Saturday will be lived streamed on Hutchins Facebook page.
Leland Neal Wentworth, Jr of Franklin, NE passed away peacefully on December 13, 2021, at the age of 54.
Born September 3, 1967 at Red Cloud, Nebraska, he was the son of Neal and Gaylene (Kennedy) Wentworth. Leland married his longtime sweetheart Sally Decker in the fall of 2000. Together they had twin sons, Logan Neal and Spencer James.
Leland was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1985 where he played football and was involved in FFA. He attended University of Nebraska Lincoln and then worked at TO Haas Bandag until 2003. He, Sally and the boys then moved to Franklin where he carried on the legacy of Poppy as the best butcher in the area.  People traveled from all over to the Rightway grocery to purchase the very best of steaks from Leland.  In his final years, he worked in the parts department for Landmark Implement.
Leland was a Mason and a member of the First Plymouth Church. He was a proud supporter of the Franklin FFA and the Franklin County 4H program.
Leland had a fun-loving spirit that commanded a room, and a heartfelt jovial belly-laugh that filled it.  He was a comedian, jokester, prankster, and extraordinary storyteller. If a situation lacked fun, Leland was sure to provide his own.
He was a lover of history, music, Nebraska football, the Kansas City Royals and the Pittsburg Steelers, a good Nebraska baseball game with a Husker-red hot dog, and Sunday naps in his favorite recliner. He was also an artist who loved drawing with his sons, nieces, and nephews, and had a talent for creating snowflakes.
Even more than hunting, fishing, sports, and the great outdoors, Leland loved sharing his skills and knowledge with others. He served for years as a Cub Scout leader and Scout Master and enjoyed coaching the Alma Mudcats baseball team with his good friend Brian Lennemann. He was a patient coach and mentor with a knack for creating joy and fun in every situation.
Always a gracious host who made people feel important and welcome, Leland had a servant’s heart and selflessly lived his life for others. He was crazy in love with Sally and his boys, and he lived to be there for Logan and Spencer and all their adventures and activities.  Never to be missed in the crowd, Leland was a beautiful, exuberant soul who knew how to live life large.   Although he was entirely too humble to admit just how much he was loved and adored, we are honored and grateful to call him ours.
Leland is survived by wife Sally, sons Logan and Spencer, his parents Neal and Gaylene, his brothers Norm and family, Doug and family, Marvin and family, mother-in-law Sarah Decker, his brother-in-law Chris Decker and family, and an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his oldest brother Merlin Wentworth, grandparents Ray and Emma Wentworth and Caroline Kennedy, his father-in-law Dennis Decker and his “ultimate roommate” James (Poppy) Wilsman.
Leland’s services will be held Saturday December 18th at 2 o’clock pm at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Franklin, NE Pastor Jay Towell officiating.   Inurnment was in Greenwood Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Lodge No. 264 A.F. & A.M. Memorials can be made to the Leland Wentworth family.  Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin assisted the Wentworth family with these arrangements.

Steve Christiancy - March 29, 1962 - November 28, 2021

Departed: 11/28/2021 (Franklin)
Obituary Preview: Memorial service for Steve will be live streamed on Hutchins Facebook page.
Steven Royal Christiancy was born on March 29, 1962, to loving parents, Kathryn and Bob Christiancy. When Steve turned five, he moved to Franklin, NE, with his brother Jim. His sister, Lisa was born a few years later. Steve loved being outdoors from the time he could walk, often exploring the river with his dad and brother. He also loved hunting for Indian arrowheads with his father.
Steve played football throughout high school with his favorite coach, Bob James. He also began working at the OK Tire Store with his brother and father. The Tire store became Steve’s second home and he spent most of his life creating deep friendships with people throughout the community of Franklin. He discovered hobbies he would continue to enjoy throughout life, including welding, building demo derby cars, stock car racing, trap shooting, and hunting.
Steve began building demo cars in the early eighties and loved being behind the wheel as he competed in local races. He spent many hours building the “perfect” demo derby car before moving on to stock car racing. Steve’s first stock car was a Pontiac LeMans he built with Dave Duncan, a life-long friend. Later in life, Steve would enjoy attending demo derby races as he watched his nephew and niece race in their own demo cars.
In 1997 Steve bought forty acres of land outside Franklin. He was happiest when his family surrounded him as they built campfires or looked for the next big buck. The farm became his favorite place to escape the stress of life. He often came home to excitedly report about the bobcat or the quail he saw that day.
Steve was also a hunter who enjoyed going to Colorado to hunt elk with his friends and family. His hard work ethic carried over into every aspect of his life. He wanted to do everything to the best of his ability and felt a lot of pride in the success of his elk hunts.
He was also involved with the 4-H Trap Shooting Club, The Young Guns and helped form the Valley Gun Club. He spent many hours mentoring the youth who participated, taking joy in seeing them perform at the Mid-Nebraska Trap Conference and Cornhusker State Shoot.  He formed many friendships at the trap range throughout the years. He was a generous, giving person who would never hesitate to help anyone who asked.
He also loved going to Estes, Colorado on family vacations. He would look forward to taking ATVs along some mountain trails or sitting next to the river helping his nieces and nephews catch trout. Even in Estes Park, Co. the racer in him came out and he would challenge his family to race him at the go kart track.
Steve was also a devoted son who had a close relationship with his mother and father. He recalled memories of watching his father make Sunday morning pancakes or camping by the river. One of his greatest joys in life was spending countless hours hunting with his father and brother, Jim. Steve enjoyed sharing trap shooting with his mother later in her life. He was always a loving person who valued his family more than anything else in life. Steve worked at the O.K. Tire Store until 2012. In 2011, Steve met his future wife, Linda Whiteside. He married her on Sept. 8, 2012.
Steve was a loving husband who never forgot a birthday or a Valentine’s Day. He enjoyed going to flea markets and antiques looking for the next treasure. He also loved going to Colorado with his wife and enjoyed seeing the elk at Rocky Mountain National Parks. He continued to enjoy hunting, spending what he always called quality time looking for deer. He also loved dutch oven cooking and spent many hours perfecting the perfect upside-down pineapple cake or apple cobbler.
In 2012 he worked at Royal Air Composites, making new friends. He continued to enjoy hunting deer with his friends and elk in Colorado. In 2019, he decided to retire and immediately rediscovered his love for wielding. He enjoyed creating horseshoe art for his wife and nieces. Steve also spent more time trap shooting at the Minden Gun Club with his nephew and brother. In February of 2020, Steve had the blessing of attending the wedding of his nephew.
As a young man, he was devoted to his family, taking pride in building his dad’s business. He loved being an uncle and often teased his niece about kanagacorns and made sure they always “found” quarters when they went camping. Steve was a loving uncle and husband who touched so many lives for the better. He spread the gift of kindness wherever he went. He was a gentle soul who always found excitement in seeing tracks of deer or a turkey during one of his many long drives along country roads. Steve passed from this life unexpectedly Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the age of 59 years. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Steve is survived by his wife, Linda Christiancy; brother Jim and wife Colette; sister Lisa Hoffman; and his nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Steve’s Life was held Friday, December 3rd, 2021 at Crossgate Community Church, Franklin with Pastor Kasey Loschen officiating. Family inurnment will be held privately.
