Peggy Louise Macer - May 01, 1941 - April 27, 2021

Departed: 04/27/2021 (Hurlock)
Obituary Preview: OBITUARY
Peggy Louise Macer, at the age of seventy-nine (79), returned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Throughout the years, Peggy was a woman with an amazing testimony to share. She was victorious in a battle with many illnesses; she had survived three heart attacks, two strokes and had been on dialysis for nearly sixteen years. Her life was symbolized by faith and courage. Despite such overwhelming circumstances, Peggy fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith. Peggy’s devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her through her sickness and ultimately gave her peace.
Peggy was born to the late Daniel James Hughes, Sr. and Lula Roberta Quailes-Hughes on May 1, 1941. She attended Hurlock Elementary and Mace’s Lane Schools. She married the love of her life, Glenn Macer, in April of 1960. She worked at several cannery, pickling, and poultry factories including John Wrights, Acme, Hurlock Pickling, Bayshore, Country Pride, Conagra, and Allen Foods.
Open to any and everybody, her kitchen was never closed. Peggy was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She loved to cook candied yams, greens, bread pudding, and mac and cheese. It was hard trying to learn to make her delicious foods exactly how she made it. She knew recipes by heart andmeasured by the pinch, the dash, and splash. Peggy’s home, especially the kitchen, was the gathering place for all where she made sure you did not leave hungry. Peggy was a member of the National Church of God in East New Market, Maryland. She was a dedicated woman of God and would let you know that you had to be saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. She helped with the church Youth Program Education (YPE) and other fundraising organizations. A few of her favorite songs were “We Come to Drive Old Satan Away” and “Get Up From Sitting Down.” Peggy was always willing to go out to help others and made friends everywhere whether it be at the grocery store, in dialysis, or even while sick in the hospital. She had a way of easing into a conversation with just about anyone. Nursing staff would comment on how she was one of the best patients with whom they had ever come into contact. As her health declined, she made sure she reached out to each one of her children, god children, grandchildren, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, and friends and would constantly repeat “God showed me heaven, it won’t be long now, and I want you to meet me there.” In her final days, she continued to praise the Lord and you could often hear her whisper late at night “Come on Lord, I’m Ready.”
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two (52) years, Glen Macer, their son, John Kendall Macer, her parents, Daniel James Hughes, Sr. and Lula Roberta Quailes Hughes and four brothers, Charles Hughes, Sr., William "Bill" Hughes, Thomas Hughes, and Samuel Hughes.
Peggy leaves fond memories to be cherished by: three sons, Gary Macer of Chester, PA, Wayne Macer, Sr. of Cambridge, MD and Michael Macer (Marvel) of Cambridge MD; one daughter, Cherlyn Macer of Cambridge MD; five grandchildren, Wayne Macer, Jr of Salisbury MD, Tamia Macer of Cambridge MD, Jarrett Macer of Cambridge MD, Montay Macer of Dover, DE, and a special granddaughter, Tykia Macer of East New Market, MD, whom she raised; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Hughes of Salisbury MD;two brothers, Roy Hughes of Easton, MD and Daniel “Bunny” Hughes of Hurlock, MD; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Watson (Carroll) of Virginia Beach, VA and Diane Neal of PA; three special friends, Willa Mae Adams, Hazel Ellis and Mary Spicer, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lovingly Submitted ~ The Family
