Obituary Preview: John Carter III, affectionately known as “Candy Man,” was born on December 13, 1958, to Mr. John Carter Jr. and Mrs. Annie Pearl Carter, both of whom preceded him in death. He is the fourth of seven children, with one sister, Willie Lee (Joy) Carter, who also preceded him in death. He was also the loving nephew of Isiah Carter (Frog) who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death a beloved granddaughter, Khadeja Sharda McNeil.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Pineapple, AL. His family later moved to Greenville, AL where he joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. As a child and as an adult he was an active member of both churches. He participated in auxiliaries such as the BTU and other church organizations.
He graduated from Greenville High School in 1977. As a student he was a member of the football team as well as an active member of the Spanish Club. While in high school he would earn the nickname, “Candy Man.” This moniker was bestowed upon him due to his charisma and popularity with the ladies.
Candy Man passed peacefully Saturday, February 26, 2022.
He leaves behind a wife Belinda Powell Carter,  Prattville, AL. To continue his legacy, he leaves behind seven children: Eric Womack, Atlanta, GA; Antonio (Monica) Harris; and Veronica Cage, Montgomery, AL; Demetrice (Roosevelt) Palmer; Maurice Lymon; Victoria Bess; and James Bess, Greenville, AL., and a bonus daughter and son Rosena Womack  and  Roderick Womack both, GA. Ten siblings: Hattie Brown, Willie James Carter, Lula Carter, Greenville, AL; Rev. Joel Carter (LaShay) Andalusia, AL; Mary Alice Carter Montgomery, AL.; John D. Carter Pensacola, FL;  Debra Ellis, Ronald Ellis, Tracy Ellis, and Betty Ellis, Pine Apple, AL. A stepmother, Annie Bell Ellis resident of Pine Apple, AL. Three uncles, two who were more like brothers: Jim Jones and    Junious Jones, New Orleans, LA. and Joe Frank Jones of Milton, FL. Though technically, Willie Jay Brown, Jr. (Schronna), Montgomery, AL; William Carter, Pensacola, FL; and Pearl Carter,     Greenville, AL, are his niece and nephews, Candy, loved and chastised them as though they were one of his own children. He also leaves to cherish his memory twenty-two grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
During his last days, he expressed how touched he was by the love and devotion of his   AMAZING children. He realized that a man’s success is not measured by money or accomplishments but by the love he receives from his children.
