Memorial Services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Dayna Weltzin officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Clear Lake. Visitation will be 10:00am to 11:00am on December 30th prior to the memorial service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements.
Barbara Elaine Novy was born May 26, 1932, to John and Winifred (Oswald) Gent in Rochester, New York. Barbara grew up in Webster, New York, where her family owned a nursery and flower business. She and her two brothers, Bill and Denny, helped their mother and father in all areas of the business while growing up and going to school. Barb attended Webster High School and was active in swimming, archery and bowling. She graduated in 1949 and then went on to college to learn about what she always wanted to do – being a nurse. After graduating from nursing school, Mom moved to Virginia to work with her friend Carol. There, she met Elmer, while he was visiting a friend in the hospital. Elmer Novy and Barbara Gent were married April 26, 1957. They moved to California and Nevada and then back to New York, raising four daughters while also being a nurse. In 1972, the family decided to move to South Dakota to fulfill Dad’s dream of farming with his brothers. Mom went to work at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in October 1972 and worked there until she retired in 2007 at the age of 75. Barb loved being a nurse and many of the residents’ family members would tell us how they loved how Mom took care of their loved ones. Barbara was nominated and was named Clear Lake Community Club Employee of the Year in 2004. She returned to Good Samaritan Nursing Home during her retirement to volunteer and help more residents.
Mom also had another love – swimming. She would always swim whenever she could and encouraged her children and grandchildren to learn as well. In 1999, Barb attended the Watertown Senior Games and over her years competing, she received 52 medals in swimming in several events. One year, she went from competing at the Watertown Senior Games and went on to the South Dakota State Games to claim first place in the 50 meter free- style event.
Along with swimming, Mom enjoyed going to church, playing bingo and mini-golf, traveling with Elmer and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rose Marie Belaen was born on September 22, 1956, in Marshall, MN to Roger and Rosell (Wambeke) Belaen. Eldest of 7 children, she grew up on a farm north of Minneota and graduated from Minneota High School in 1974. Rose was well-known for her larger-than-life personality, infectious smile, and compassion for others.
Rose held multiple job titles through the years including the Schott Corporation for over 20 years in Canby and Minneota, MN. She then joined Strait Insurance in Castlewood, SD, and eventually became the long-term office manager for Fritz Chevrolet in Clear Lake, SD. Upon Rose’s retirement in 2020, she continued to work at Fritz on a part-time basis until her death.
One of Rose’s proudest accomplishments was obtaining her Associate of Arts Degree from Mount Marty College after years of working full time and going to school part-time in the evenings. She graduated the same month as her youngest daughter in 2003. She also obtained her motorcycle endorsement at age 50 and became well-known on the streets with her bright yellow Spyder. During her newfound love of motorcycling, she met Rodney Brungardt and they were united in marriage on December 23, 2018 at Highland Lutheran Church in Brandt, SD.
Rose was an ever-moving force with a deep passion for the Lord; if you hadn’t met her yet, it was only a matter of time. She also spread her love and faith through dispersing her angel charms any chance she got, such as all the medical staff she encountered throughout the last few years and her ministry in the Christian Motorcycle Association. As Rose persevered through two open-heart surgeries, and a few “graceful” moment injuries, she always kept her Faith and continued to give to those around her. Whether it was the infectious smile or her knack of starting conversations with anyone she came across, Rose would light up the room. Before her decline in health, Rose made some memorable trips including to Belgium with her Dad, whale watching in Mexico and Las Vegas with dear friends, Florida with her oldest daughter, and finally to New York City with her youngest daughter and grandson.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake with Rev. Michael Enderle officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Clear Lake. Houseman Funeral Home in Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements.
Joyce E. Krause was born December 25, 1937, to Cornelius and Nellie (Rowenhorst) Langerock in her family home in McCook County, South Dakota. Joyce moved to her Heavenly home and was welcomed by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 7, at the Sanford Deuel County Hospital. She was 85 years old. Joyce grew up on the family farm and moved with her family from Monroe, South Dakota, to Balaton, Minnesota, and then to her home 2 miles north of Clear Lake. She grew up with her four siblings. She talked about helping to babysit her siblings and “mothering” the twins. On October 28, 1956, Joyce was united in marriage to the love of her life, Arnold Krause, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, South Dakota. The couple lived and farmed near Clear Lake where they raised their family. She was an exemplary wife and homemaker, keeping her husband and family well cared for. Joyce passed away two short weeks before they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary!
Joyce had priorities in her life and practiced the three “F’s”……Faith, Family, and Friends……in that order. Her Faith in her Lord and Savior is what directed her actions in life and helped sustain her during times of abundance and times of suffering. That Faith helped her through her health trials in the last few years. Second only to her Faith, her Family came next. They were her greatest pride and joy. Through mending clothes, attending grandchildren’s events, babysitting, and problem solving with projects, she showered her family with love through her words and actions. Her biggest project for her grandchildren was creating a handmade quilt for each of the seven. Her Friends were also important to her and that was evident through her love and kindness to all she encountered. From young friends like Hope Bjerke, to friendships with her nephew and niece, Dallas and Fay Buchholtz, she made all people feel important. She had a passion for her flower garden up at the “north farm,” which was the farm where she grew up. Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Trinity Ladies Aide, was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the church choir. The couple was recognized for their work ethic and stewardship to the earth from the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts--Soil and Moisture Certificate of Conservation Achievement.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Arnold Krause; children, Lewaine (Shelly Ochsendorf) Krause, Lonnie (Gail) Krause, and Polly (Neal) Ruhd; grandchildren: Cody (Tracie) Krause, Brandi Krause, Tara (Matthew) Nelson, Thad (Arya) Krause, Tyler (Jill) Ruhd, Logan (Marcela) Ruhd, and Walker (Dani) Ruhd; great grandchildren: Trig Nelson, Greyson Miller, Roman Krause, Brock Ruhd, Colt Ruhd, and Knox Ruhd and her brother, Chuck (Darlene) Langerock.
She is proceeded in death by her mother and father, and two infant sons, Lydell Krause and Lynn Krause. Likewise, she is proceeded in death by her sisters, Darlene (Gene Buchholtz) (Merton Strohschein), Bev (Harvey Stohr), and Charlotte (Bill Selmer). She is also proceeded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Erma and Clarence Krause, and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine (Bob) Schmahl.
