Ada Eileen Slade - December 31, 1943 - April 01, 2024

Departed: 04/01/2024 (Botwood)
Obituary Preview: On April 1, 2024, Ada Eileen Slade, at the age of 80, left this world to celebrate the first Heavenly birthday with Hubert, the love of her life, in the presence of the Lord. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”
Ada was born on Samson’s Island on December 31, 1943 the youngest child of Gordon and Meta Potter. Due to the death of her father and illness of her mother, she was adopted by Pastors Frank (father’s cousin) and Hazel Bursey as a toddler. While being raised in Botwood, she would spend much time during the summers with her biological family and beloved stepfather on Samson’s Island, being blessed by loving and being loved by both families. Ada enjoyed attending Camp Emmanuel in Long Pond throughout her childhood and teenage years. This is where she met the future love of her life, Hubert, with the introductory question to him, “Are you saved?”. Many years later, they were reintroduced by her buddy, Edna Lidstone (Best) when he came to Botwood to teach.
He must have gotten saved, because they fell in love and were married on August 6, 1965. Her greatest desire was fulfilled when she became the mother of four children: Philip (Karen), Lois (Bruce), Carla Diamond (Peter) and Geoffrey (Shona), continued when she chose to be a foster parent and intensified with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ada completed a course in Commerce and began her career as a bank teller in Stephenville. When she moved to Botwood with her little family, she continued to work for the Bank of Montreal. Later, she became the secretary for Farmer’s Marketing and finished her career as secretary of L. P. Purchase Academy.
Ada had a very quiet disposition, but she could be quite the character, often being a practical joker to those around her. She loved playing board games with close friends, where she was known to cheat every now and then. Ada’s generous spirit was enjoyed by many unexpected neighbours and friends by the gifting of her unmatched culinary skills.
Ada was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Hubert Slade, her parents (Pastors Frank and Hazel Bursey, Gordon and Meta Baker and stepfather, William Baker), her brothers (Elmer and David Bursey, and Wallace Potter), her sister Joyce Dicks and her father and mother in law, John and Vera Slade. She leaves to mourn her loving children, six grandchildren: Garrett Slade, Cody (Katie) Diamond, Charity (Shannon) Pope, Erin (Dishone) Gillingham, Jaden (Ashley) Diamond, Noah (Chelsea) Slade and her prides and joys, Caspian Pope and Elise Gillingham (great grandchildren). She also leaves to mourn her brothers Arnold (Joan) Bursey, Melvin (Leona) Potter, sisters Selma (Ted) Quinlan, Bessie Harnett and Shirley (George) Powell, honorary children, Glen Leyte, Brad and Karen Sheppard, along with numerous in laws and family, whom she dearly loved, along with a large circle of friends.
Many thanks are extended to the staff of Lane’s Retirement Home, Botwood and Central Newfoundland Health who have gone above and beyond in their care for her. Her life celebration will be conducted at JPT in Botwood on Friday, April 5, at 1:00pm. Special thanks are extended to our honorary cousin, friend and pastor, Moral Bess.
Donations in Ada's memory can be made to the Jubilee Pentecostal Temple, VBS program.
The funeral service will be livestreamed from JPT facebook page.

Louise also became our source of information in family genealogy, it seems she knew everyone from so far away. But she always kept in touch. She was the go-to for birthdays as well. Check Louise on Facebook to see who had a birthday that day. We will certainly miss that contact and the jokes she would tell, she always smiled.
Louise was also forming a meaningful relationship with God and would keep contact with sermons, songs and testimonies on-line via zoom. There is no doubt she spoke to God before leaving us and made her peace. May the Lord bless and keep her and that her name be in the Book Of Life.
Louises’ wishes were to be cremated and be buried with her parents in the SDA Church Graveyard in Botwood. A service/celebration of life and internment will take place this summer. More details to follow.

Fannie Budgell - August 12, 1940 - February 01, 2024

Departed: 02/01/2024 (Botwood)
Obituary Preview: Passed peacefully away surrounded by her family on February 1, 2024 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Center in Botwood, Mrs. Fannie Budgell. She was 83 years of age.
Fannie is predeceased by her parents Dulcie and Sydney Fudge; her beloved husband Roland; sons Charlie, Scott, Shawn and Barry; siblings Violet and Willie.
Left to remember her with cherished memories are her sons Ivan (Carolann) Budgell, Derrick (Jackie) Budgell; daughters Loretta (Ed) Baker, Trudy Budgell, Deanna (Raymond) Peddle, Lori (Bill) Budgell; sisters Audrey Cooke and Ruby (Tom) Brown; brothers Berman (Shirley) Fudge and Arch Fudge. She also leaves behind her many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of relatives and friends.
Fannie was born to Dulcie and Sydney Fudge in Point of Bay on August 12, 1940. She also spent many years living in Philips Head and Botwood. She was known and loved by many for her kindness and sense of humor. Fannie loved her friends and her family unconditionally. Her home was a safe place for many, and she welcomed everybody with open arms. Many have shared delicious meals, or a simple cup of tea and slice of toast at her table. She loved get-togethers and made sure nobody left hungry, and she was sure that you had some leftovers to take home. She shared many laughs and had an incredible sense of humor. Fannie lost the love of her life in 2002, but the love between them never died. She has worn her wedding band every day since, and slept with his photo on her bedside. She made sure nobody ever forgot him. Fannie has lost four of her children, an unimaginable loss to most, but her strong spirit, and her love for God pushed her through the darkest days. Fannie attended Sunday Services regularly, and made sure to read her bible every night before she got too unwell. She had a strong faith, and that has proved to be extremely beneficial to her. Fannie was greeted with open arms on February 1st at the gates of Heaven. She was finally reunited with her husband and four boys. She will always be our guardian angel, and her memory and spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of us all. We will love her forever. May she rest peacefully. Majors Terry and Roxann Feltham conducted the funeral service on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. In keeping with Fannie's wishes, cremation will take place following the funeral service. To see the livestream of the funeral service, click here: www.facebook.com/hoskinsfuneralhomes
